Any way to switch between open apps??? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hey there guys. I previosly owned mostly symbian phones. Now I have a WM5 one. So my problem is: is there any way (trick) to switch between open apps on my device? This is a prob lem for me because , for instance, I had the IMplus (mesenger app) open , my phone entered standby after the period that I chose (2 minutes) and when I tapped the screen , my app was gone somewhere in the background. So I had to look it up again through the menu, and reopen it. It was working of course, but it was in the background. So is there any way, like it is on symbian, to find your opened apps and choose which one to bring back into the mainscreen, using only a simple button press or smth like that? Or maybe at least an app to do that?
Thank you.

magic button, GSPocketMagic, and a hundred other softwares...

LOL. Yes thank you. So nothing embedded already, but lots of apps to do that. Got it thanks.

I like SmallMenu Plus.

Smellmenu Plus is fantastic, in addition to the task manager aspect, there's the cascading start menu. It's the first thing to go on any of my devices, and with the scrollwheel of the hermes, it's twice as good as normal. Makes one-handed operation so much easier.

SmellMenu? Gosh this is better than I thought.
Please add your own jokes here . . .

WisBar, PocketPlus, iLauncher ... Tons of others ..

I use AE button Plus. It cheap and will give you exactly what you are looking for as well as a Alt Tab. It will multiply what your hard buttons can do x4.

Thanks guys , I got an idea now.... Using Magic Button for now, but I will try Button Plus right now.

HTC X-Button

HTC X-Button is now on the upload FTP in the Tools and Programs area - works great on the Hermes - use the new applet in the Settings menu to configure.
Thanks, moved to safe heaven: HTC X-Button.CAB
Report: Did not work on my 8525.
@patmannyc:
You have to enable it here first:
Start -> Settings -> System -> X-Button
Perfect...
Running well on my UNI_Beta 3.2..
Thank's
does this app allow real closing via the ok button as well as the x button?
It works great on my O2 trion ^^

No, this program allow close program by tapping "x" on the screen .

Probably not much point as you say. I'm going to try it just to see all the options it has. If it's good it stays, if not bye bye!!

A very lightweight version instead of having to have something better, which is good.
I wish they'd integrate it with the ok/close buttons on the device though to make one handed use easier. By that I mean, press button = ok, hold button = close.
This or magic button? I feel magic button is better, lets u see the taskbar.
It does what it was intended to. Good work.
sutheep: yes, i tried this and stay with magic button 2
program is a bit cleaner than magicbuttons.
anyway, just need to find a simple battery program (since I've been using the one in magicbuttons anyway)
If you are looking for a small battery monitoring program try to find the program named "batti". It's really small and work good.
I found that, unlike other similar software, it closes ActiveSync, and handles not responding apps just like on BB: shows a message that the app does not respond and offers to kill it.
i thing it has a bug. try to tap x button when phone app active, it closes down phone app and it realy kills it so your phone app won't start anymore
Wouldn't SmartsKey works to achieve this?

Remap end key?

Okay, I've searched as best as I can, but I haven't been able to find information that helps. Is it possible to map the end key to a program like the Touch?
I've tried setting up the Long_End.lnk shortcut but it didn't work. I'm just hoping that the keyboard driver supports it, but I'm kinda doubting it since the Touch's keyboard driver is probably quite different (seeing as the Touch doesn't HAVE a keyboard).
If it isn't possible easily, is there a way that isn't so easy? Maybe changing the keyboard driver to the driver of another phone?
If there really isn't a way to do it natively in Windows, is there a key expander program that would work? I installed HButton, but it won't let me remap the End key.
Also, I'm running DCD 3.2.6 with Radio 3.42.50.

AE button plus does it. Just checked for you on my phone. I know it doesn't work with the camera button, but it works for everything else. I love that program.
very cool program. I like that I can set it up so a long press brings up the HTC End Key app and three presses locks the phone.

that is one of the first programs I install each time I flash. The titan has so many buttons, but I've mapped them ALLLLLL. What the hell will I do when I get the Touch pro with less buttons?
Total agreement on AE Buttons. Wonderful program.
I also agree on the "more buttons" thing, not less. Any complex OS is gonna have a large number of options and programs... it's just life. If ya want simple, then don't get a smart phone!
Given the complex nature of OS's these days, it just doesn't make sense to me that continue to REMOVE buttons that help us get where we want to go quickly.

Well, that's fine IF they were using the extra space for a bigger screen... or perhaps it's better to say it would be more acceptable if they where making a bigger screen. But they ain't doing that is most cases!

HD2 Multitasking

I have searched around the net and watched almost all youtube videos about the HD2. I still need to know about how the phone handles multitasking... I am quite sure it does multitask though..
Android: Long press on the home-menu button to bring up latest apps. + Task manager apps to kill running apps.
Nokia/Maemo: Big element of core design. Screen with live feed windows. Each window can be shot down seperatly.
iPhone: No multitasking
HD2: ?? Anything like a task manager here??

In this case there's only a "narrowminded, pissed off and angry with his live"-kinda question.

When I saw it a week ago, the presenter pressed a small button on right side of the screen while in home display to bring up the list of applications running. So in a sense, quite similar to N900, except that it was a list, not thumbnails.
What I would be interested to know if there's a way to remap a hardware key to bring up the task manager. Personally I would think this would be more useful for me that the start-key.

There are a few other nice solutions:
WkTask shows the running apps as small icons on the taskbar - kinda like in Windows on the desktop computer. By tapping on the icons, you can easily switch between different runningapps with as outreturning to the homescreen in between. Its freeware, although donations are surely appreciated by the creator...
AEButtonsPlus can display a listf running apps following a hardware button press, so you can switch by tapping on a listed item.
dnt forget we can use the xperia panels now, that works as a nice visual task manager
Thanks, those solutions look quite interesting and probably will be what I'm looking for. I'll have to give them a try when I'll get the device.
Heres some pics so you know what were on about
1) xperia panels (You can get that free here)
2) Htc Task Manager (You Get That with every htc device)
3) Showcase (You also can get that free here)

I just found the Showcase myself too. It seems really brilliant application.. simple and finger friendly.
Just need to figure out how I can remap a hardware button (like start button) to start this instead. But as far as I understand, that shouldn't be big issue.
But I guess that should be what I was after with this: easily accessable task manager so I can switch applications quick.

If I've understood correct, it should be accessible through home-screen, just pressing the start from top-left corner? This should be enough for me if I have 9 shortcuts in home screen anyway. Probably don't need that fast access to rest of aplications.
Just a personal preference, but I'd like to be able to access task manager fast. Just so I can juggle between browser, ssh terminal (irssi) etc easily.Currently with my Nokia E71 I can access it by pressing home-button for a second and would prefer a dedicated button for this.

Not on the newer windows mobile 6.5.1 roms, microsoft moved the start button from the top to the bottom, suppose to make it more like windows by the way you can set showcase up so it opens if you tap the top right hand corner where the clock is

Also, X button enhancement does not work perfectly. On the capacitive screen I can't slide my finger to the left to activate different functions of Showcase. Only the one to the right can be used. It works fine when operating through a PC with Remote Controller, so I am sure this is due to the different screen technology.

Yeah, for some reason HD2 renders the X button enhancement useless. So, is there actually any way to access Showcase (or any similar task manager for that matter) by long pressing any of the hard keys? I really wish there was more convenient ways to switch between applications.
Kinda funny how Apple's ineptitude has people thinking, all over again, asif Multitasking is something special.
Any windows version since way back when does multitasking.
You know what the funny part is, the iPhone can actually multi task, but Apple won't allow it for some reason Steve Jobs' mind spewed out and only he can understand.

They can activate it later and sell a new wave of $600 phones.
Remember when they released video? It was very exciting for a lot of people. I recall video recording the festivities on my three year old Windows Mobile phone at the time.

configure optical button

Is there a way to configure the optical button on the htc incredible so that clicking it wakes the phone up (like pressing the top button)? I'm looking for functionality thats a little bit similar to how the iphone wakes up since I find that button at the bottom much more accessible than the button on the top.
id be interested in this as well. The top button isnt very intuitive to me
Search the market for "lock screen" or "lockscreen" or just "lock" (or maybe "button"? I thought there was a button switcher app too).
Many of the 3rd party lock apps will bring up the lock screen by pressing one or more of the physical buttons (volume, camera, etc). I bet at least one of them comes on with the optical button.
it has been done on the nexus one with the trackball. i think you need root access or at lease custom rom.
Ok, I found this.

Try the "lockbot" app. It is probably about all that is available right now, but the Incredible will be extremely popular. There will be more hacks/tweaks/apps/whatever for this device than any to date, I suspect.

Are you talking about the app called myLock auto unlock? I am not finding an advanced mode or way to get in advanced mode. Care to explain a little more? and this is able to make it so you can use the trackpad to wake/unlock the phone?
NoLock works for this as well but I wish there was a way to allow the optical pad to work without allowing the volume buttons to work at the same time.
Tried myLock just now and both seem like good apps.

Useless Button

I am excited to use my TMOUS device except several small issues. Some of them already fixed here (thanks this forum), but some irritates me (especcially whole device is excellent). One of this is middle hard button ( I mean that "back arrow"). My opinion is its most useless key I saw. It will must better to use this as a comprehensive Task Manager or Task Switcher. But this ONE STEP BACK(!!)... Stupid! I can't find any decision in internet to correspond this button to useful function, except AEButton-software, but I don't like this so artificial way, which running on memory and fishing all button events. Anybody knows other solving?
i use the back button maybe a hundred times a day in opera. faster than calling opera out of fullscreen to hit the soft back button.
i havent heard of any other way to change it than by using aebuttons, sorry.

heh no worries. The one drawback is that if you hit a link that opens in a new tab, and then hit the back hard key, it drops you back to manila home (although opera is still running, just switch back to it) because there is no 'back' for that tab, so it assumes you mean to go back to home.
However you soon get used to it and it happens less and less.
samsamuel Thats good, but its not enough for device with only 5 hardware buttons (except volume control) to have only one programmable button for user friendly functions. I guess professionals in this forum can help us to establish full control for these buttons!

I use the back button every time I use my phone in every program. how is a back button not a good idea?
The Back arrow button functions as close app button my Euro HD2. Initially I used to think that it's just allowing me to step out of an application back to the previous screen / app that I was in, but after checking the task manager periodically, I realised that this button actually closes my apps.
Are you guys sure it's not doing the same with your T-Mo edition?
