Hello...
I recieved my MDA last saturday, and since then, have been trying to figure everything out. After multiple calls to tmobile, and even a trip back to the store, i'm still stuck with a few questions that i cannot seem to get answered.
1. The MDA came with the default Tmobile theme which works fine in portrait & in landscape, as well as the default blue Windows theme.
However, I have tried to install multiple themes(including some from microsoft themeselves) and i have one annoying error! Whenever I use an "installed" theme, the portrait screen looks fine, but when I open the keyboard...there are two large greyish/white gaps on the side of the theme.
Ex: I'm using a green theme. When in landscape mode, i have a single green square in the middle of the screen with a strip on either side(left or right)
2. My phone is HORRIBLY slow when and if ANYTHING 3rd party is installed. I've tried today plugins that control the memory usage(figured that would help)...however, it just slowed things done. My phone usually runs at about 14mb Free Program Memory, out of the total 44MB(This seems horrible...with just the default programs installed*for the most part* and maybe agile messenger running.). If i install a today plugin, or a game...this drops below 10mb. Therefore, phone usage can be very aggravating. I cannot think of any other way to increase this memory expect for ONE thing. Would it be possible to transfer ALL programs, applications, etc to the miniSD Card(i have 1gb now, with a 2gb in the mail). This way...i certaintly would not be topping out the usage of the card, and hopefully I can free up alot of space on the phone.
3. As we all know, the packaged IM programs are AWFULLY slow and inconsistent. After a bit of research and trials, I have settled on using Agile Messenger. I'm loving it...expect for a few things.
The MAJOR problem I have with it, is the pop up notification. Its annoying to be surfing the web or playing a game, just to have a pop up tell you that you have recieved a message, EVERY TIME you get a new message(which can amount to a great deal in a short time). I've looked all over for a setting, so unless I missed it, is there any way to shut this off?
A side issue with this program, and also the connectivity of the phone is...:
(even WITH the GPRS hack*always on*), I still lose connection(with 2-4 bars of signal) and therefore i get signed off of Agile, rather often. This isnt' such a problem with me, as seeing it takes a short time to log back in. However, when you look at the conversation from another person's point of view...all you see is
"Soandso" Logged off
"Soandso" logged on
etc
etc
(not sure if that last part was a question or a statement, but if theres an answer, i'd like to hear it!)
4.
My girlfriend has a sidekick, and I LOVE the feature of being able to set phone profiles for specific times of the day. Especially during school, it'll go silent, and the second we are out, its back on normal. I have downloaded PZP to try and fix this loss of luxury. However, I personally don't find the program to be very consistent. Sometimes, it seems as if say my "school" profile is fully functioning, while other times, it really doesnt. Call me crazy, but I have taken a shot in the dark and ventured to say that if one touches the volume button on the phone while the phone is on a specific profile...it will throw it out of its cycle. If anyone has some hints/comments/suggestions of their own on this program or other favorites...I would love to hear from you.
5. After I went about and downloaded the Eten dial pad skin, I noticed that all of my contacts were unable to receive contact photos. I quickly realized that any contact that was saved on my SIM card from my previous phone was stuck in this predictament. However, if i were to create a new contact account, it quickly allows me to customize them alot further. Therefore, i was curious if there was any way to transfer my contacts on my sim card>my phone in a fashion that the phone will accept them.
I'm sure i'll think of more questions(these are just the ones that I havent been able to answer after days of searching :-D)
Thank you so much in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
the speed of the HTC Wizard is very slow. That was my problem too.
for question no. 2:
Moving the apps to the card will result in more free space on the phone, OK, but running the apps from the card will also result in low speed, because the card is slower than the main memory. So I think you won't get more speed by this.
Try to overclock the device with OmapClock. My device works like a charm with 264 MHz (original was 180 MHz).
Use a tool like FreeUp RAM, which is part of the SK-Tools-package.
Running OmapClock and freeing up the RAM from time to time brings significantly much more speed. There is almost no waiting time if you click on an icon. You can even run Skype with OmapClock (many other users do so).
HTH
I have seen tidbits about overclocking through my endless searches the last few days. I've always heard that you have to be careful if you overclock a device, such as a phone. Has anyone had any known issues with the overclocking? Are there risks in having the phone run at that speed all the time?
The Wizard isn't slow. Install a Qtek rom without branding, and it will be much faster.
even the sales associate at tmobile seemed to think it was slow. Upgrading to a different ROM sounds ok, but i'm trying to keep everything via tmobile. thaks for the tip though.
Hi,
Im looking to get the Tmobile USA MDA, but after reading posts like this Im alittle afraid.
I need to run TOMTOM on this device and thinking that this might bring the device to a halt. Now Im starting to think that maybe I should get the 6700. Please let me know what you found out about making MDA faster. Thank you.

There have been long discussion about what is safe with the Wizard on this forum.
See, for example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40284
Also, the SmartsKey app automates startup of OMapClock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060
(It has a number of other uses as well.
Hope this helps.

There is a known problem with backlighting. See http://zendrui.free.fr/PZPForum/viewtopic.php?t=197
Also, check to see what events PZP is handling for profile-switching. For example, if you have calendar-based or time-based rules, they may switch your profile without you doing anything. Go to Settings, Control to see what you Switches you allow. Or check Time and Calendar for your profiles under the Configuration option.
As much as i'm sure overclocking the device may help, especially in my case. I'm just not sure if its worth the risk. Kind of hard to explain to Tmobile why the phone decided to overheat. Seems overly risky to make such an expensive device, run at higher speeds than its DESIGNED to do. But i'm still not sure, it almost DOES seem worth it...decisions, decisions...
Yes, Thank you for clarifying that...I mostly meant, the inconsistency of PZP with the timing of profiles. It seems as if the program will "switch" to the correct profile, but i don't always see a change in the operation of the device itself. Ex: I have it set to go to school mode at 7:30am, this past week(since its spring break, i've noticed that my incoming calls all had the normal ring volume, as well as system tones, etc...
Although it "says" ""School"" i don't really know if its truely in that mode?!
On this note, i have a question about setting the times(which is what i really want to accomplish). My phone goes to LOUD around 5:30am, School at 7:30 am, Normal at 1:55pm, and Quiet at 4pm.
Nooow, do i have to put two times in the school profile such as 7:30 am-1:54(5)???? so that it has an entire time interval...or can i just tell it when to start, and the next profile will automatically kick in and stop the previous.
Also, does putting the phone in standby or shutting it down have any effect on the profile??
I'm sorry in advance if i'm asking very basic questions, i've just been searching for a long period of time, and i usually can't find a specific answer to my question. So I decided I would spend the time to actually discuss MY problem, with hope someone can help. Again, sorry for any inconvienence or redudant questions.

I have a german T-Mobile MDA Vario (= HTC Wizard) and I'm overclocking it permanently with OmapClock and SmartSKey. There is no overheating as far as I can say/feel. I can speed up to 264 MHz (original = 180 MHz). If I try more, the device softresets itself without any damage or loss of data. It's a kind of security mechanism. Of course, battery life is a little bit shorter when overclocking it. But I'm sure, slightly overclocking doesn't damage the device! Maybe the lifetime of the device will be a bit shorter, lets say 6 months in 5 years, but you won't realize that, because you won't be using your device in 5 years. You will sure own some other phone when the CPU dies. Together with the tool "FreeUp RAM" (comes with SKTools), I can reach a comfortable speed for everyday use. But never forget: The Wizard IS quite slow, compared with other devices. You can find smart workarounds for that, but don't close your eyes on that fact.
For running any GPS navigation tools I would consider buying not a Wizard, but a much faster device, if you would ask me. I'm using my Wizard only for addresses (~ 700 items), calendar (~ 1200 items) etc., and without overclocking and using a program like Pocket Informant 2005, that would be an annoying, maybe impossible thing. At the beginning, I had to wait almost 10-15 seconds until e.g. the month overview was created. Switch to the following month - wait again. Choose a specific day - wait again. Oh my god! That needed more patience than I had.
Are you running a basic install without all the phone networks customisation bloat?
you can do this by hard resetting (you will loose data doing this) and then doing a softreset when the customisation dialogue pops up after setting time zone etc.
this will speed things up over an install with tmobiles bloatware. I run tomtom and my device is in general as reponsive as the magician it replaces.
good luck with your phone

So guys based on your opinions and experience is it worth for me to get the MDA or should I go with a different carrier and a XV/PPC-6700 ?
Hi yozh,
I don't know the 6700-device at all. Maybe we don't have it here in good old Germany, or maybe under a differnt name. Does it have a bigger display (better for navigation)? Does it have a faster CPU? Then take that one! In my eyes I would never like to use the Wizard for navigation. It's only a better phone, not more, not less. For all other purposes I would buy a bigger machine. I do not want to talk bad about my own device, I have bought it and I use it and it's OK for the everyday things I do with it. It has nothing to do with "I'm proud of my device", like some people seem to be here. It's a phone, man, not a Ferrari or a Rolex. You would tell yourself lies, if you would call the Wizard a powerful device. I had a Palm Tungsten T5 before, and THIS is a powerful device. 2600 items in the calendar (true!), and the reaction time was half a second if you tap on the screen! You can go and have a coffee if you do that on a Wizard.
Just think about it. If you buy a Wizard, try it for a day and then write to me what you think about that phone.
Mh. My english should be better, I know.
Just my 2 Cents!
Hi well the 6700 is the apache I belive and the CPU is 416mhz but its not a "dual core" everything else screen adn such is pretty much the same. Thanks for the reply
SO any one on this forums can recoment apache over MDA ?

See my posts on http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48448 regarding processor speeds and TomTom.
Wow really TOMTOM runs better on the MDA then on a 400mhz DELL ? Then Im set defenatly getting the MDA, I like GSM network provide3rs better anyway and plus there are so much choices with the phones. I wish I was able to aford the JASJAS that looks really good.
Also don't forget that when you 'close' an appliation it does not really close, it just goes in to background, thus slowing the system down.
Check out your running processes and close all the ones that are not needed or load an app that really closed things.

Themes built for portrait screens look wrong in landscape view. Easy solution: build a theme that works in landscape view. The Guava Bubbles theme works fine in both because the background image is larger than portrait size.

I use PPC-Profiles-Pro, but you can't slave this to a time. Besides, I'd rather just put it on Silent mode by holding the connection manager button for three seconds (top left side button). Otherwise I use PPC Profiles to switch from Work (BT) to Home (Wifi, no BT) to Sleep (No Wifi, no BT, no email alerts or reminders, just ringer). Walking into a theater, I just go to silent mode.

I know. I'm using MagicButton. And OmapClock with SmartSKey. And FreeUp RAM. In deed, I do almost EVERYTHING to make my device run faster.
Every so often my 8525 has this symptom where the battery gets real warm, and the power level drops like crazy. If I don't soft reset, it'll kill the battery completely in an hour.
It's probably some application running in the background that's looping or something. I have a few commercial apps installed, but it's an OEM rom, radio, etc.
I'm using mobile shell and the task manager shows me that nothing is running. Is there a task manager that will show me all the running tasks, and not just mine? Something similar to XP's task manager?

I just noticed the same problem with my 8525 as well. Exact same symptoms. I'm running CUSTEL 2.5, but I don't think it is related to CUSTEL. I have installed the vibration feedback hack recently. I wonder if that caused it, but there is no uninstall for it as far as I know.
have you guys updated your radio? your you using pushmail?
I'm running an OEM ROM, radio, etc. I have several additional programs installed, almost all commercial stuff. I don't use push mail, but I do poll for new POP mail every 15 minutes.
I installed the SKTools trial, but the task manager display doesn't show me CPU utilization, so it's not of much use for debugging this issue.
Upon further investigation, it seems the problem can start when I have the phone in my pocket for a while. When I pull it out of my pocket, it's warm. Maybe it's searching for a signal, or maybe I was leaning on a button. Once I soft-reset, it goes back to normal. For the record, this has happened 4-5 times total.
It happens to me once a week.
Brutal!
I am really unimpressed with this device so far.
Lots of hanging/rebooting/etc.
I think I'll upgrade to WM6 and see what happens.
But when this thing gets hot... wow, it's hot!

Have you done some of the standard things to reduce lock-ups and freezing?

Mike
Have you guys solved this?
I've got similar experience with my new SPV M3100. While it was in my pocket it gets really hot and battery drains very fast. Task manager shows no running apps. Happened to me a few times in two weeks on both WM5 and WM6 ROMs.
P.S. There wasn't a SIM card in the device and the device was in flight mode! So no searching for signal...
Perhaps messenger is running?
I had the issue where I thought I had closed messenger, but it was running in the background. It kept trying to connect to the internet, and it took me a while to find out I hadn't closed it.

I had that problem when i used softbank x01ht at beginning. Also suspected that there are problems in software or battery like you guys. But finally it turns out the problem of phone circuit board. I sent it to repair center and now its ok.
Solution
Your camera software is running in the background and is heating up the processor while running. You must make sure you close out of the camera software completely when you finish using it. I ran into this problem too and found this solution to work.
During the last week I experienced some strange behaviour on my HD2. I want to point out that in general I am very happy with it, but now I wonder whether my device is faulty or weather this is a feature.
What I have seen:
- my device had some sudden reboots when using it in my car, charging with car charger
- this happens only when outside temeperature is close to 30 degrees C or above
- it happens after some time (10 - 15 min) using Navigon or even just doing Bluetooth calls
- it usually stops charging the device, the LED is then blinking green & orange, then reboot
- I recognize that the device is very hot
- after cooling down it has lost the power settings
I found two other threads dealings with similiar effects
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707477
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627884
and now want to do some detailed anaylsis here. I installed BattClock (great tool!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612083
to monitor the battery temparatur and found the following:
- idle phone (office, not charging, 3G connect, push mail activated): 25 - 30°C
- phone in use (office, not charging, checking mails etc): 30 - 34°
- idle charging (as idle phone, plus charging): 30 - 34°
- phone in use, charging in car, summer temp 28°): temperuture rises up to 47°
The last case ended with a reboot, when coming up again the temperature was 47.1 degrees, green / orange was bblinking and charging has stopped. Before crashing the temperature raised from 33 to 47° within 15 minutes.
Can anybody confirm whether he can run the HD2 wíth 47° and above? I would like to understand whether I shoul return my phone under warranty or whether this is a feature. 47° is high - though I do not think too high??? I also got the impression that this issue is coming up more and more frequently with my phone and as the summer just has started this could mean I need to stop charging while driving. How to use navigation?
Any comments or ideas?
Regards Hase
Well Hase,
I've seen this a few times in the past when driving running CoPilot, Bluetooth, screen bright and charging.
In the last week, with a new ROM base and significantly warmer weather, I've seen this with just having the phone in the car charging.
Very interested (and actively hunting) a manual underclock to see if it helps.
I don't think this is a defect, but it does happen.
I've noticed it too a alot during the NE heatwave in the US.
I'm waiting it out for now.
47C is not too hot though, although maybe there could be some kind of feature with the processor?
Yeah I've noticed it too. I was driving in my car running Bing Navigation with no problems for about 2 hours with the windows up and the ac on in my car. 10 minutes after I opened the windows when it was 101 F outside bing maps would randomly shut down and other apps would not even open. Closed the windows cranked the ac and held my phone in front of the vent to cool down and it went back to normal without even having to soft reset. Seems like a feature to prevent damage to the phone.
I would guess its some overheat protection feature with the processor, as its really the latest, which means sometimes it may get too hot ( you know, 1GHZ is really fast and thus may generate much more hrest than normal slower processors ) . Just like Intel's processors, which also shut off when the temperature rises over a certain programmed known "safe" temperature and reboots the computer, in hope that when its started again, it would be cooler. As for battery temperature, the cpu may be even hotter than the battery's temperature and thus it may seem that the phone shut off at a low temperature, but in actual, the processor is REALLY hot. And as its a mobile processor and its known that the second hottest factor is charging/discharging the battery, charging may be temporarily disabled until it cools down to a "safe" temperature to prevent overheating/buring out other components. But that's just what I think. Best to check with Qualcomm or HTC if possible as it may also be a defect in the phone. Hope this helps.
I haven't experienced any reboots but I have had problems with my HD2 locking up due to excessive heat.
Leaving it in direct sunlight means I'm unable to unlock the phone due to the lack of response from the screen.
Yesterday my HD2 was charging in its cradle and wi-fi was on. The device got hot and became unresponsive and I ended up putting it in the fridge for 10 mins which brought it back to life.
The HD2 definitely has an issue with high temps, the screen in particular.

Have you tried LeoCpuSpeed?
I have had this problam as well. It also happened with my Touch Pro 2 when in the car, sun, Copilot, etc...
My fix was kind of a lucky guess. I have AC vents that blow on the windows of the doors when it is on the defrost setting. I just have the windshield mount sitting kind of over the vent for the drivers window. It is not quite in a direct line with the window, but enough AC comes out of it to get to the device and cool it.
When I do this, it goes from a rather toasty to the touch to rather cold actually. Even with the rubber "case" on it it keeps it down to a reasonable temp, if not below, with it charging, GPS going, bluetooth stereo and WMP all going.
Since popping it into the airflow it has not even gotten warm let alone started the warning flashes and such.
Kind of an obvious one, but those are the most often overlooked so I figured I would add it in.

In fact that was my solution too. I changed my cradle using one putting the HD2 in front of an AC outlet and now everything is fine. Just make sure the lower part of the HD2 where the USB cable is connected is not covered by the cradle or any cover as this is the place where the cold wind has to blow. Battery temp remains well below 30° C, if driving longer distances even below 20°. I am not sure whether I will get too low? And I do not now yet what will happen in winter when we get it freezing cold and heating will step in.

Does anybody have tried underclocking yet? Would be good to now whether this could be an option too. Sometimes even using the HD2 on hot days (without charging!) gets the temp up to 38° C plus. Best thing is not to hold it on the lower part.
I am wondering that still only some people get this problems. Either everybody is ACed (not poss in my convertable) or the problem is only with some HD2 or some ROM. Has anybody noticed any other strange behaviour after an overheating occured? I noticed some issues during the last months which I could not yet connect to any other reason. I am not sure whether I have had overheating bevor these occured the first time:
- all of a sudden bluetooth connex to my car was not poss any more
- all of a sudden pocket xls application and the note application got very very slow
- all of a sudden POP connect to google Mail did not show any mails any more.
These effects did not show up the first time all together, they came one after another, one per month since March. And probably I have had overheating earlier without even noticing it
Regards Hase
Hi, i have the same problem with overheating ... it stop charging when Battery Temperature reach 45°C. Battery PINS are all OK and clean
First : My Leo has Radio 2.11 (2.12 same problem)
OEM 2.10 (My own ROM)
Today Test : Go back to original ROM 1.66 (Radio 2.06) and my HD2 does not overheat ! Strange
I can see with PowerGuard that the charging current slow down when the temperature go up and reach max 42.3°C
Tomorrow Test : Radio 2.06 and my ROM with OEM 2.10 ... if do not overheat then i try with Radio 2.08 (more RAM ... TMOUS) ....
to be continued ...
Today Test with Original Firmware 1.66 and Radio 2.06 has problem too
Ordered new original Battery from Brack.ch ... when battery comes make new test to see if it's the battery or HD2.
Strange is that the battery is not so hot but the charge circuit of the HD2 is very Hot. (Hottest place is between SD CARD and SIM Card)

Hello,
I experienced the same sudden shut downs (not reboots) during the last days as well ("hopefully" only due to the very hot weather). And none of my POP3 account seem to work right now!
The internet connectivity seems to be okay, and of course I haven't changes any mail settings... but I cannot receive or send any mails. I get no error message when I try to receive mails but when I click on the new mail button my HD2 asks me to set up a new mail connection!
Any solution found to this problem?
Kind Regards,
DW!

On my side the problem is a bit different. POP3 seems to work fine (also no errors) but does not receive mails. Sending is o.k. And this problem is only with gmail, other accounts work like before.
What about pxl on your device?

What do you mean? What's "pxl"?
Do you already tried to set up the account from scratch again? That's what I intent to try later at home...

PXL is Microsoft Excel on Windows Mobile. On my HD2 it takes about 2 minutes now until it open either the list of xls files or a dedicated xls.

Yes I did, but with the same result, does not receive emails...
I had my HD2 heat up to about 48degs when in use while charging it. No problems encountered. Perhaps its defective. Send to HTC for repair?

Hmmm, that's no problem on my HD2 - Mobile Excel is opening as fast as ever...
I have now deleted 2 of my 4 mail accounts and re-installed them; the other 2 I simply have re-installed withour prior erasure - and this seem to do the job! Indeed I have done this more than once now, but 3 accounts now already received test mails... the 4th is a freemail account which I can only use every 15min. via POP3/IMAP...

But what was the outside temperature? I think the overheating has to do mainly with using the phone (gps) while charging in a hot environment inside of a car.
Just charging the phone shouldn't use the processor to any significant point.
Just my $.02.
I could not believe it what I read here, but now the high temperatures in Austria caused the same problems on my HD2 when navigating in my car. HD2 after 2-5 minutes blinks orange-green (no loading) and after maximum 10-15 minutes crashes.
Unfortunately I have to rely on navi-function for my upcoming vacation. No solution to place the HD2 in AC-stream in my car with this stupid original HTC-Car-Navi-Holder.
When driving in the heat of noon I don´t even have to switch it on, just mounting into the loading-cradle is enough to make the HD2 crash after 10-15 minutes, only 3G on, nothing else (no BT, WiFi, HSPA, no app running etc.)
Until now I was quite satisfied with the HD2, had no crashes or malfunctions so far, but now I am really fed up with this piece of sh.. and I don´t think there will be a hardware or software-solution (except swichting it off) since the HD2 is malconstructed.
This was the last time I bought a HTC product ............... Crap at a high price I can have with an iPhone too ................
It went from extremely rarely doing it to three or four times just the other night in the span of a few hours. I can't reproduce it on command but it happens when I lock the screen and put it in my pocket. Then sometimes when I take it out it is entirely non-responsive, even the power button doesn't work. I have to remove and reinsert the battery.
It could be ADW Launcher or WidgetLocker since those are the only two programs always running, but I was hoping someone else experiences a similar issue. It hasn't happened when I normally lock it yet though, so it could also be the proximity sensor maybe?
Having the same issue (on Bell as well), but not running either of those two apps. Was almost to the point of returning the phone and then installed JM7 and it's been better, although not perfect. Last night it locked up with NoLED displaying an icon, so I've deleted that app to see if that's the issue. It hasn't locked up today, but it did reboot a few hours ago seemingly at random.
Your internal sd card might be failing like all the other i9000m phones I see on this forum bricking themselves .

Oh, that doesn't sound pleasant at all...
I'm outside of Bell's 30 day exchange period plus I've talked for over 30 minutes, so I'll have to go through Samsung if it completely breaks. On the plus side, a phone from them should be three button recoverable.
Although I can't be without a phone for weeks, I hope it's not the SD card.
Mine Lags like crazy once every few days till the point I need to restart it. Any idea why this is do?

Hold your horses people....
before you jump about the lag, and or one click lag fix and such
first you have to investigate what is running on your phone.
just over the weekend (since XDA was down) i stalled over 400 Apps
my phone slowed down to snail speed, then i ran my Startup Manager software (many to choose from)
I suggest Startup Cleaner 2.0 then uncheck everything, leave only the apps that you want to run during start up
reboot your phone and presto, fast as new!
if you can find version 2.1 of startup manager that one is even better
keep note, start up manager apps are not the same as task killer apps
it only run once during start up, and it helps you easily select what should and should not run during start up, so it doesn't stay in memory after it runs
on the same topic
you should also configure your Task Killer apps to kill everything, and add only the wants you want to be running to the ignore list.
that will keep the phone working smoothly even without the "one click lag fix"
i'm still running stock on my JH2 i9000m

All gamer has a good sugestion here BUT we are going to get people flaming the fact that Android shouldnt need task managers.....
Ho hum..
TBH in my experience, I have found (after a couple of hard resets) that there appears to be a size limit for installed apps. Once I get over this size limit, I get LAGTASTIC, phone slows to a snails pace, then I remove a few of the apps and I am back at light speed again....
I cant say what the limit is, but I know when I have hit it - I would then uninstall a lame app or two and get back running.
Yes a lot of people "claims" that, but yet you do a search in Android Market, you see LOTS of Task Manager / Killer apps for every phone.
they were not designed for Galaxy S, they were designed long ago for all the other phones that had and still have the same problems of memory management causing lags
Android is not robust enough to survive without one
heck not even Windows 7 or Windows Mobiles phone
I just read that possibly the phone freezes while trying to find a signal. As this problem has only recently started, and I just recently moved into university, and many buildings receive little to no wireless signal, I think it's more than a coincidence. I'll try going to plane mode before entering lecture halls and basements.

i don't think that is the case with the Galaxy S
however back then my Treo 650 did suffer from that.
if you believe that is the problem then try this

Has anyone else noticed their MT4G being retardedly slow? Like to the point it takes 20 seconds to do anything? It was fast the other day. Became unbearably slow today. To the point it wouldn't recognize touch, lagged between screens, etc. I have pulled the battery and rebooted about 6 times now, in the last 12 hours.
I've done a factory reset 2 times since I bought it on Thursday. Not cool.
weird.. never happened to me.
go into setting/applications clear your browser data sometimes it gets really high and needs to be cleaned...just go thru your apps and clear some stuff maybe thats the problem
It's really odd. I pulled out the SIM. Booted up, and it was fast as hell.
Kinda odd. I also just put the SIM back in, ran it in GSM only mode, and its much quicker.
This happens a lot to me, when I talk on the phone and try to do anything. Mostly, I've noticed that Sense just seems to take a dump here and there with all of the background services running. LaucherPro is a lot faster for me, that much is certain.
The dreadful combination is:
Talk on phone
Scroll through something in Sense
Have Android sync with GMail
When that happens, you're toast.

How have you been speeding it back up once this happens? I did a few battery pulls and it was still slow, finally just pulled the sim and it worked. But there's gotta be a more definitive answer. Even if it means manually selecting networks.
I sped it up by ditching Sense and using LauncherPro instead. There is such a huge speed increase that it is insane.
Previous to that, I restarted the phone (which is like an actual shutdown) and turned it back on. Not ideal at all. The phone's software is pretty buggy. The ambient light sensor suffers from the same issues that the iPhone 4 launched with. The screen will sometimes stay on during a call (or flash on-off over and over) until your cheek hangs up the call by accident.
I love this phone, but T-Mo and HTC better be quick with the updates.
Phone has always been lag free for me. Are you on stock rom? Post all after market stuff that you downloaded. Something must be running in the background that's slowing you down. Mine has always been good, and when I flashed to iced glacier rom it flies
I have had problems viewing the photo gallery. It really slows down when I start scrolling through the pictures. I don't know if it is because of the memory card or maybe syncing with facebook. I have about 200 pictures on my card. I've had most of these same ones on my G1 and other phones without this problem.

you can install WatchDog to take a look at what may be eating your CPU. Also I am going to keep going back to it, make sure USB debug is checked. Helped me a lot!
