Has anyone cooked a ROM with WM2003 that does portrait or landscape modes on the fly? How is it working? Is it smooth and easy to switch?
It is one of the advertised features of the new OS but I haven't heard of or read about anyone using it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
2003SE is not out yet
and roms have to be made for a device before you can cook it
you cant just take a pure MS rom not that there are such roms for anything but preview and for the pda makers to base their rom on
problem with 2003SE is that applications which are not made to support the rotation dont work which mean many many many freeware applications
so needless to say i'm in no hurry to change
people say October is when the 2003SE will be released for the xda devices
Rudegar
Thanks for your input. I really want MS Excel and IE available in Landscape mode. Since these are both MS programs, I am hoping their WM2003SE will work on these programs?
Landscape
Landscape Mode is already here... Not on the fly or even fully supported by alot of software. I did test one method I had found
http://www.nyditot.com/
It worked great for all of the microsoft stuff... they have obviously been prepared for a while. the only quirky thing if you stick to just the microsoft stuff is the today screen doesn't stretch to the side. everything else works.(except the phone)
Here is some more information on it as well

I am no linux expert but it seems that could possibly run on most HTC devices with some kernal patching??
I think the new OS looks better than Windows Mobile and is certainly better than touchflo 3d.
I am calling on the information of all the cooks, developers and hackers on this forum to answer this, do you think it would be possible to create a ROM that boots out HTC devices into this new Android OS and therefor rid us of microsofts limited WM6/6.1 OS ??
I am all for trying if you are!
Me too. I had expected to see more questions about android. I'm setting up a linux box to see what we can do with the source! Hope to see some progress here!
I think you should follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782&page=124
The people out there are working on a working Android on the Kaiser. When finished, the Android system can easily ported to some other HTC devices (I think).
I think that Google Android is working better than Windows Mobile with TouchFlo (2d & 3d), so I hope that they finish the job soon
Hi,
yesterday I was reading about putting new WM 6.1 on my 614c. After reading all day long other ppl experience about WM6.1 on their devices I decided to put it too….
The main reason I put it it was when I saw this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/meet/wm61-faq.mspx . (I don’t like 3th parity appz so my PDA can “look” different).
After WM was done installing on my PDA I was a bit puzzled. My today screen is/was looking the same like on WM6.
So is there by any chance something I’m missing here or theirs no such feature on our beloved devices?!?
TNX
Btw I have iPAQ 614c ROM WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.20757 (Build 20757.1.4.0).
Hm... yes, you seem to have confused the home screen on Windows Mobile Standard with the one on Professional. WM 6.1 Pro's home screen is exactly like the one on WM6.
If you're really against 3rd "parity" plugins, I hope you're ready to wait until Q2 2009 - that's supposedly when WM 7 will be out.
That’s odd a bit.
Coz I taught it was like in Vista case. Vista Ultimate has all the features it’s up to the user which one he will use and which one not.
So from my point of view WM Standard has better GUI than WM Professional.
But nwm I will wait…
BTW tnx 4 answer and keep up the good work.
Why not !
I'm own Win CE 6 SDK and VS 2005. I start developing custom OS builds. It's going fine, I can build custom image, here is example.
It is compiled for ARM so architecture is compatibile with WM Devices. It generate ROM image which can be moded with existing tools. At this stage I want to develop good, stable image, and then start stage 2 - Combining WM drivers from WM device (They are back compatible) with Win CE 6 image.
We will see if this will end it any way, I will informe you about progress...
The first and two last screenshots show IV distribution which is "universal" and total commander runing fine
The second screenshots are from first, profiled version, but they show fine some win ce features...
At this moment I must update distribution to r2
If you saw, or not... Win Ce is runing fine on Nokia N800, the video was also posted here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/27/vmware-mvp-weds-windows-ce-and-android-in-unholy-matrimony-on-du/
Edit: If anyone is interested what components and features can be included in build, I created screenshots which show them:
http://rapidshare.com/files/204557405/features.rar.html
Edit 2: Currently updating to R2 for maximum quality of release.
looks good, i think, whats the implications of this exactly?
wm6/6.5 is built on winCE 5, right?
WM 6, 6.1, 6.5 = CE 5
WM 7 = CE 6
Generaly CE 6 is faster. mor stable than 5, there is also more drivers, I test pocket total commander and it works fine, win ce 6 also use cab installers but they arent the same as for wm, they need litle modyfications to run on ce
sounds good
man, i wish you all the best.
(topic notification ON, pernamently!)
looking forward to this!
Good Luck!!! will keep an eye on this thread..
This is really good for those GPS programs that only CE car units can do. This would be amazing step towards running full gps sw with all options on a ppc windows mobile way to go..
I wish you a luck... fingers crossed.
I own only PB5.0...
Good Luck Dude..Hope u comeup wid a Revolution..
Will you produce a kitchen for all devices presented here, or (and) others as well?.. And how do you think, could the drivers porting process be a hell?
wow definitely subscribing to this thread!
but are you using a derivative of the meizu firmware based on wince 6? Wouldn't that be easier than making something from scratch? Is it possible to port that to our devices? This is an excellent morning treat =)
As I say before, porting drivers is not requried, becouse drivers work on kernel level so there is no somethink like WM drivers, there are onlu Win CE drivers, But drivers from Win CE 5.2 (on which are based all WM devices) are compatibile with CE 6. I'm curently working on stable distribution for Win CE 6, then i will merge WM emulator image with CE image and will see if it will work, if yes I will go to hardware test - my candidate is my ipaq 214 becouse it is perfect for Win CE due to strong hardware, and there is not many drivers to repleace becous this ipaq doesnt have camera, gsm, gps... If this all will go fine I will publish distribution and instructions how to do this...
not bad
so it will still take some time before it is seen on a touch pro which isn't bad
in fact I have no knowledge of this truthfully ><
I am very happy you are doing this
but as far cosmetic design how does this differ from wince 5.2?

Click to collapse
in case of Kernel it is like XP to Vista kernel, in case of UI there is not big difference from 5.2 to 6
but then with this would it be possible to integrate at least cosmetic theme like uhm this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KVG-6sriwY
minus the multi touch feature
elektrownik
Is a completely different APIs in there? I'm talking about porting OEM apps...

No the API's are most the same, there are eaven the same DirectX and DirectShow, as default Net cf 2.0 can be included
I was actually thinking about something like this about a month or two ago.... i watched the vs studio videos on it and it just started looking like it was a little above my level for the amount of time i had Good luck on the project!
To those of you worried about cosmetics...
Right now we have the control to customize about 50 to 60 percent of the ui. With a custom build of wince, everything is 100% customizable (because we have access to the source code.)
I like customizability but I have no clue on where to begin ><
that would be the sucky part...but if it is touted to be better and faster than win ce 5.0 it would be something I am willing to try
just wandering....
is there anyone in this forum succed or try to port window mobile to android device....
thanks......
ps: i'm sorry if i post on wrong section......
I would love to use Windows Mobile on my Motorola Milestone
Good question,I was going to ask it
since I have a chinese clone of Xperia X10.The funny part is that it was first released with WM 6.5 as the ROM.
http://www.fastcardtech.com/goods-5419-Smart+X10+Dual+os+37inch+WVGA+capacitive+screen+windows+Wifi+GPS+smart+phoneDual+sim+standby+WIFI+GPS+50MP+came.html
But I got it as android 2.2 froyo which is incapable of installing adobe flash player and it cannot even play divx/xvid movies. So I plan to switch to windows mobile 6.5 which is much familiar and was using xperia X1 for years.
I also like to know the reversing of OS is possible and like to know the process of doing it.I dont now even have the ROM of WM6.5 for it along with me.Somebody
