Hi...
i am a newbie in this PPC...
i want to use my PPC to remote access my server using RAS, is it possible?
if possible, is there any guidance on how to configure it?
Thx in advance...

thanks...
I'll try it...
//www.pocketlance.com/ is not what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a method/tools so that I can work directly on my ppc to access RAS. Pocketlance on the other hand using PPC as a modem for our PC/Notebook to access RAS.
anyway, thank you for your help.
is there anybody can point me out how to do RAS directly on PPC?
umm... first of all, your phone service provider must allow Data transmission.
Then you need to set Settings->CSD Line Type to 9600 bps(v.110)... at least for me i need to do so cuz v.32 doesn't work with mine.
Then add your network in Settings->Connection to dial to your RAS server with the cellular line modem. Connect it using the new network connection. It should work.
If you get an error message saying there's no modem or the modem isn't responding in less than 1 second after trying to connect, most probably your line hasn't activated for data transmission.
That's all... my provider cut my Data communication so i can't really test it out again.
vmirage, thank you...
I'll try it A.S.A.P

Appologies in advance for the daft question. I was wondering if its possible for me to configure my Wizard as a gateway to the internet?
From my Wizard, once I've established a GPRS connection I can browse/surf the internet, but I'd like to be able to connect with my PC and browse the intenet.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance and once again, sorry for the newb question.

I won't have a Wizard. But, let me guess
Try switching on your Wizard IR and point it to your PC. It things goes well, your PC should say some hardware detected.. and it should have a modem class hardware, which should enable you to connect to the net. Try fiddle with it. That is what's on offer from my SonyE phone.
Is it possible to make a connection through usb cable?
jep, you can use youre wizzard als a gprs modem for youre laptop.
start with going trough
[start]
[programs]
[modem link]
plug in the usb on bove sides (wizzard and pc)
youre pc will find a new deviece.
Insert youre cd from t-mobile with applications. On that cd is also a set of drivers for the wizzard modem function. (just tell windows to search the cd the rest will be done automaticly)
go to connections on youre pc.
create a new connection.
make sure it's pointing to youre new added modem (wizzard).
use for the phone number *99#
have a little patience and wola youre welcome on the world wide web.
ps if you are dutch try this post on a dutch forum which is maybe more clear

Both IrDA and USB will work as described above. IrDA, on the other hand, is not the way to go if you have EDGE - IrDA's maximal 115 kbps is slower than the maximal about 175 kbps of EDGE.
If you have Bluetooth support in the notebook, you will want to read this tutorial on setting up the Wizard as a Bleutooh modem: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=510&more=1
"Modem link" worked a treat - thanks!
For Vodafone Australia, I needed to send the following init string
"at+cgdcont=1,"IP","vfinternet.au"

Pity the GPRS counter doesn't work!
Any Drivers for OSX for my powerbook?
Interesting topic...
is there similarly a way to use WiFi from the Wizard on a laptop, via IR or USB?
Couldn't get this to work while recently at a hotel where the laptop couldn't see the hotspot anywhere in the room, but the wizard could see it everywhere in the room! =)
No.
What you need to do that is known in the Winblows world as "Internet Connection Sharing", or "ICS", and its not in the WinCE build. At all.
Going the OTHER way however - having your Windows laptop serve up the GPRS connection to a whole host of other machines on an ad-hoc Wifi network - that DOES work!
HI there i donot have modem drivers in my cdrom. Please if any one can post the drivers file on this page it will help a fellow pda user a lot.
Thank you very much in advance.
Here you go, enjoy. Tried it and I got 150 - 175 kbs at www.dslreports.com/mspeed @ 200k and 600k tests. Granted it was at 12:37 a.m. and not a big load on the network cause everyone is probably asleep.
Hmm, becuase of this, now I want to sell off my unlocked sierra 775 edge card because it's of no use to me now. Man I love this phone more and more!
Cheers,
Mike
Hi all,
I am able to use my MDA Vario as modem for my laptop connecting the MDA Vario via USB but when I connect I do not see the GPRS connection on my MDA Vario connecting or being used so a big G stands in the top of my screen instead of a G with two arrows below it.
I use as modem settings:
Dial number *99#
Extra initialization command +CGDCONT=1,"ip","internet","",0,0
Is GPRS used now?
If not how can I configure the MDA Vario or modem on my laptop in such a way that is use GPRS?
I think the "G" icon does not change even if it is connected.
in the modem setting replace the word " internet " with your providers GPRS setting,
in the case of t-mobile it will be " internet2.voicesream.com"
and that's it!
When I change "internet" into "internet2.voicestream.com" I am not able to connect at all and when I have this setting set to "internet" I am able to connect and use my MDA Vario as Modem.
The only thing I am very interested in is how do I know if I am using GPRS or normal modem as connection? This because I have a GPRS abo and I do not want to use my normal phone abo for modem connection.
Does anyone know if the internet setting is OK and how I can see if GPRS is used?
Thanks.
yes, that I know it will use the GPRS or EDGE conection, It is only convinient if you have an unlimited data plan.
I dind't notice that you where in the us, look up in you photo what you use to connect to your GPRS setting, and then use the same onenceon the computer in the HTC modem window.
internet2.voicestrem.com is only for the unlimited data plan in the USA with T-mobile..
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html
this is a link with some setting
The page you have mentioned http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html mention to use internet-act for settings in modem and I am not able to connect using internet-act. I only use internet as setting in initialization string and I can connect.
I am located in the Netherlands and I assume that this is the correct configuration to use my MDA Vario as modem for my laptop and connect via GPRS. Will see on my next bill. .

Having my Wizard GPRS/EDGE working fine through Bluetooth. Anyone else having iteruptions in the connection?
HI there
i am using O2 atom and i cannot connect through modem link. Please help.
Hi,
I' am trying to connect two Smartphones over GPRS. At first I used TAPI to establish a connection between the two devices, but I don't want to use a CSD-connection. Then I took a look at the Connection Manager from EVC++, but I think with the Connecttion Manager you are not able to connect the two phones by there phonenumbers, like with modems or tapi.
Is it even possible to do a data call over GPRS? Or is GPRS just used to connect to the internet?
thx foobar
I had an audiovox rtm8000 and I put my home phone number into the gprs connection settings. I was able to log in with terminal services client. I don't know how it could be done using a normal phone hardware.
Thanx, for your post. Could you describe a little more what you did? Which APIs did you use?
I did not do it myself. It was a tool that came with the audiovox phone card. It only works with that card.
Hi
I apologise in advance because I'm sure my problem is simply solved but I;ve not used the XDa for a while and I'm back to square 1. I have tried searching for the anser but I think my question is just to basic.
My XDA2 is unlocked and I use a T-Mobile sim in it. The problem I have is with the TOMTOM. When i try to update traffic info on the fly I get a message saying modem hung up (or something similar). It works fine when connecting via the cradle and my PC.
Now I think this is because the XDA2 is trying to connect using the O2 settings when I am on the road.
So my question is how do enter and then I get the XDA2 to use the T-Mobile settings?
EDIT: Sorry forgot to say so far I have done the following:
Start
settings
connections
Add new modem connection
enrtered T-Mobile
selected cellular line (GPRS)
entered access point as general.t-mobile.uk
user name as user
password as wap
Ok and update
seems it is connecting after all. Problem is I have to connect via GPRS first then up date the traffic. It's not picking up the connection if I just update direct from TomTom
any ideas?
I don't think you can do much about that, cause the tomtom, must automatically try to establish the GPRS connection.. like Internet Explorer does, it automatically checks if you have GPRS or Wi-fi connection, if not connected for you automatically. after reading your post. it does not start your GPRS connection, have you look into the settings of the tomtom, to see if he has an option that you can let it connect through your GPRS automatically?
Man, I hope I don't get flamed here, but I have checked using the advanced google search, ect and couldn't fnd my problem, so here it is
My ISP (Telus) gives me 10 hours of dialup a month.I want to be able to use my 8525 to connect to dialup so I can check email ect from the different cities I end up.
I added a new modem connection and used the Hayes cmpatible on Com1, added the dialup number, login and password. It dials the number, waits, then gives me the cannot connect screen.
I've triple checked the settings, login and password...and still can't connect
If you know how to make it go, please share the info, I would greatly appreciate it!

Gawd even in Australia i dont think there is many using Dial-up and we have the slowest internet in the world! only 10 hours you think with the amount they will get from you using your mobile and dialup they would just give you unlimited
thats just on top of my adsl. I guess its for those who roam alot.
Still no answer to as what I am doing wronng tho, anybody???
Dialup using your 8525
Hi,
I had the same problem. To be able to connect with the 8525 you need to switch your signal to GSM and it will let you dialup. To do this I got a software called BandSwitch from Daniel Herrero Rey at www.commmprpro.com.
Good Luck,
Luis
i am also trying to use dialup on this device. I live in Canada and out data plans SUCK ASS! I have some dial up access from my ISP (bell sympatico) and i want to dial up but everytime i try to connect, it fails!
thanx for the link, I will try it now
can't seem to get it to stick to GSM mode. It switches back to auto mode right away
nonsense, bandswitch is not what he need!
some think too complicated when trying to anser such really basic question:
Create a new connection (settings/connections) and chose mobileconnection as modem (dont choose haiescompatible modem or 3g modem). then add username + passw. + dial in tel.number (which depend on your serviceprovider, if you dont know then ask him). thats all.
each time you connect to the net you will use GSM network.
If you want to use UMTS connection again you must select (switch back) to ISP connection by hand (settings/connection).

Have you set up the internet connections? If not, use something like HTC Connection Setup to create all the settings, and then try again...
ialredy try htc connection and also manage the connection manualy, whit the information that my service provider told me, but stiil not working
You need to be more specific.
Describe exactly step by step what you did and what error message you are getting when trying to connect.
When you set up the connection manually did you place it under "My work network" or "My ISP"?
You may need to go to Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection and make sure that what is written there matches.
Also, verify with your cell provider that your account has a data plan. You may not be able to connect if you do not. (And even if you can it will be very expansive)
Thanks levenum, but i alredy solved the problem! since i had put the room cristal v5.1 i had lost all the gprs connections to the internet, there was no way to connect whit the pda whit that room, even with the htc connections wizard! i change to a cloudifas room and bumm, internet working, thanks anyway!!!!
