FIRST OF ALL you did not forget your password u found the phone and there is a password on the phone and there is a way to break that password but i hope no one tells you how to do it
anyway you should call up the provided carrier and return the phone to the user that lost it. finding a lost phone and using it is just as bad as stealing it yourself
and if you forgot the 4 digit password that you claim that you made you shouldn't even have a pda cause if you are that forgetfull even if we tell you how to do it you would probably forget how to do it
no one help this guy

Most Likely QFT! If you are legitimate, then you should call your carrier (Cingular) and they will probably walk you through hard-resetting your phone. Assuming you are legit, AND you are asking this question, there is a problem with these phone being stolen and resold. Again, Call the carrier and have the phone returned to it's rightful owner.

just how in the hell you know i found the phone ... dont ****ing assume ... by the way ... i don't have to called the carrier. and I got instructions on how to ****ing hard reset from my pda manual... stop ****ing accusing of stealing people phone you ****ing retard *****!. how the **** do i have the ****ing manual if i stole people's phone.

CURSING will get you nowhere and being you are getting all defensive it shows u did find/steal it so yeah
hard reset will do nothing
and cingular knows what imei you have also

This could be a valid question. I don't generaly use the lock funtion on my Wizard (MDA) but I do remember my freind was checking out my phone and decided to lock it with his own password as a joke thinking I would immediatly see it and we would have a laugh.
I instead put in in my pocket and didn't use it till we separated.
Then upon trying to make a phone call, could not.
I had to wait a day till I got a hold of him because I didn't want to reset and lose all my info.

Ehhh... I'm not saying either way just playing Devils Advocate.
I personaly use a total of 4 different passwords for almost everything in my life but there are those people that need a different PW for everything/Day/Week/etc.
If I found a wizard and wanted to steal it and not do the right thing i would have been a bit more creative about my back story. Then again criminals are usually stupid.....

I had my wizz stollen
But Cell phone tower's give lost of information & trust me that person was not to trilled when I found them 2day's later @ starbuck's on Astor Place LOL
He got NYC style Hot CUP OF ASS KICKING. Yes I ****ED him up not playing Son.
back to the topic
PS I myself l have 15 different PWD I use.
& being a security professional for 13yr's that Story form that Fool is
WEAK he's lucky he didn't leave his IME number on there turn that Fool
& I would personlay Rat his ass out for a beat down.
yeah I said it A Beat Down
PS IMIE data is alway saved on the sim card most Carries' don't use there Cell Site data to track that: PS 911 FCC DX code's data are publicly available.

Hard Resetting the phone will get rid of the password. I did it on my friends MDA.

I love that pic! It never fails to crack me up...

user's password
Guys/Girls,
well,
I have the same problem, password, but I didn't forget it
I bought it from ebay, as a damaged/broken pda.
I can give the details of my purchase in private to any one who wants to investigate.
I agree with you all in being protective.
Well,
The seller doesn't know the password, since it's not his own, but he's just a big re-seller on ebay, so I don't think he stole it.
It has a cracked LCD, so I got one, and installed it, but then got this password !!!
The seller didn't mention this cause he didn't know, since it was only lightning up.
So,
how to release this lock?
I tried the hard-reset from other posts (power+...+...) but it didn't work.
Any help ?
Thanks to all.

Try another Hard reset again, or a reflash with the OEM Rom for that phone.

would it hard reset itself if you take the main battery and the backup battery out. I am looking into getting a phone from ebay that is password protected too...
thanks

Problem with phone and soft reset

Hi all
I have problem (or two?).
1. My standard phone's program itself does not finish the work.
Its label remains in top tray all time.
In adjustments I have established a flag of end by pressing the button OK or X.
I almost have no additional programs.
2. WM5 often hangs if the device falls asleep with open processes.
Result: frequent soft reset.
I do not wish to finish the program of phone external utilities all time.
What can I make still?
Thank You.

I don't have this need to soft reset even if I leave five, six,or even more process alive while the unit goes to sleep. When I switch on the unit again, I simply continue using it without problem.
I'm using spb pocket plus to launch applications and magic button to switch and close them. I set the magic button up so that most applications including phone stay alive when close or x button is pressed. This is to allow me to go to all application by clicking on the icon on taskbar. Also on this way all by applications are immediately on within split second.
May me the cause of your problem lies some where else.
eaglesteve
I thank you
I have localized a problem. It because of phone.
All other programs can work and the computer does not fall.
I have adjusted that programs were closed by pressing the button X.
But phone itself cannot finish work and remains in memory after pressing X:

The problem has disappeared when I began to delete violently process of phone (SK tools).
But it abnormally and inconveniently. Magic Button is good program. But I think, that the problem of phone all the same needs to be solved.
I have found out one more trouble - phone often does not receive calls.
And not always phone works with a voice set. The voice set starts programs, but phone cannot often force to dial the number.
I dont think you CAN close the phone, it needs to be open to receive calls!
So, if your not getting calls, and your forcing closed the phone app...........
sorry, I'm sceptical of this. I believe you must leave the phone running at all times in order to be able to receive calls. It does not show up as a running program in setting>system>memory>running program list. If you use magic button, there is an option to 'don't show when inactive', but you can't try to kill the process by special procedure and then expect to still get calls coming through.
There has to be other reason for your problem, I think.
eaglesteve end Pyrofer.
Yes, it is possible you are right.
Really misses of calls have begun after I began to close phone.
I shall search for other reasons in adjustments of phone.
Thanks all.

You're right eaglesteve.
I use MagicButton without a problem. I have found some applications cause the Athena to hang but it's not the phone.
I am experiencing your second problem as well. If i leave the unit auto power off. I have no chance to power it up until reset from the back.
Currently i have to disable the auto off feature from the POWER menu.
any suggestion?
I solve it by following the instructions found in Google to avoid ActiveSync in WM5 connecting automaticaly.
So the problem looks like if you left ActiveSync running in the PDA and the PPC gos to sleep mode. Once I force the ActiveSync in PPC not to connect the problem never come back.
Now... the ActiveSync being activated by the PC still works... but once you finish and unplug the HTC from the PC yopu need to check if the AS is still running in the PDA and kill it.
u r great! Mahjong,
I just disable close the Activesyn on PPC. it doesn't die any more!
that means it just a matter of software/config. it should be gone with upgrading to WM6. lol
No problem. I'm glad to help.
I found out the AS thing just checking what programs remained open before getting the problem, and AS becames the suspect.
Best Regards,
mahjong

Just be careful, though - this will mean you can't use push email.
Also, if disabling AS cures the problem it suggests you have a conflict with other software - I have AS running constantly and have never had this problem.

Just joking... you are right, but anyway BB works perfectly without the AS thing running.

Hi Steve, this may not be the right thread to ask you. I hope you don't mind telling me where you bought your HTC Advantage/Dopod U1000? I am in Australia, it appears there are no stockist here. Presssdigital and Techoni have no idea when the Dopod U1000 will be stocked in Australia. How much was your unit? Thanks

Hi tcmg1666,
Mine was a gift from a close relative in Singapore. You could get it from Harvey Norman there for $1998, with bonus pack. Recently, they went for 17XX in a trade show, with bonus pack too. A guy sells it over ebay.com.sg for around 1800.
It will not be stocked in Australia. I contacted both Dopod and HTC. They do not intent to sell in Australia and New Zealand. Reason is that the Telcos here want to charge them an arm and a leg for "testing fee". I don't know what testing is needed as it works they moment you put in a phone card.
Hope this helps
Hi eaglesteve, thanks for your info. I'll try and get one of my relatives to get from Harvey Norman in S'Pore for me. Did you hav eany problems with using 3.5G and the other GSM bandwidths here in Australia? Did you get free upgrade to WM6?

Hi tcmg1666,
I tried Virgin Mobile (which is optus 2100 mhz), and Telstra's next G (850 mhz?). It works smoothly upon inserting the card (well, there will be some auto configuration etc), but I did not try 3 and the other network yet, but they should not be any different. Yes, it would work with normal GSM with no problem whatsoever. But, why use GSM when you could have 3.5G or 3G? Datapack in Austrlia is extremely expensive, if you compare it with that in Singapore. In Sinpapore, 10GB cost less than $40. In Australia, 1GB from Telstra cost more than $100. I think virgin mobile still has the best deal now, with $10 for 300MB (Mine was $10 for 1 GB). Mine is enough for me to surf internet almost 24/7 provided I don't start heavy download of music, video, and watch TV for too long. If I do that, I'd be stepping on the bobby trap and having to pay 1.5 cents per KB, which is extremely extremely expensive. (to display smh.com.au in desktop mode would cost you up to $7, thank you!).
WM6 upgrade will be available only in July. That means soon. I believe we will download from the DopodAsia website.
This is a fantastic device. You will never regret getting it.

no, I meant in the PDA. Push mail requires it and in any event I never need to close the process - it doesn`t cause me any issues.
ActiveSync is running all the time on my Advantage. No issues for me.
(And push email is excellent!)

So. I take it there is no way to unbrick this...

I was on the phone with T-Mobile and the woman on the other end either had no idea what I was talking about or, she really did. Her probing questions were perfect and she understood everything I was saying...but the only thing she could think of doing was stripping down the phone, have just the battery, and then press and hold VOL UP+DOWN and Power till the Samsung Vibrant screen came on.
I would have a picture for you, but looks like the forum doesn't allow 'new' members to post. Too bad lurker time can;t be counted toward any of it.
Anyway, the best description of what on my screen:
It has a cellphone on the left, a computer on the right, connecting dots and an orange triangle with an exclamation point. It's all int he middle of the screen.
Best part of this is: I did nothing to the phone. i only downloaded some games and a backup program I can't remember the name. Phone was still locked. I'm not venturing into doing anything like that till i have the money to buy another in a worst case scenario.
So...any ideas?
Add insurance in case you mess anything up. You have 14 days...
That doesn't sound like it's bricked but you didn't tell us anything...
That's the recovery screen, but I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish...
try to reboot the phone into recovery mode and wipe the phone.
I've tried rebooting to recovery mode.
As for not telling the forum anythng; I'm sorry. I left one detail out:
I downloaded a free application, it's a backup program. I don't remember the name of it (this is my first droid phone, big step up from your standard flip phone with a 6 color screen). I left it running a backup of all the photos and 3gp videos I put on the SD card. Fell asleep, woke up 6 hours later....
BOOM.
I did tell you everything, as in I have no desire to hack/crack/jailbreak/spook/circumvent/customer-os/firmware-flash this phone. I only wanted to charge it after playing with it for a while.
I've tried several of the volume button and power button resets, with/without SD card and SIM. I even tried doing it without the battery in the phone plugged into the USB port.
6 hours of internet browseing and reading and trying these different things, and still nowhere close to an answer form T-Mobile than I need the phone replaced.
I can't easily do it, because I have to send the phone in, wait for a 'credit' to hit my account and order another phone, all the while my service is going to stay active because I am on a Flexpay account.
I love the phone. But it's this kind of thing that has made e stay with your standard, low-tech flip phone from Tracfone. This wouldn't be such a big headache of the cellular antenna in that Tracfone was working. It's lasted me almost 4 years.
Anyway. Is there a program that forces a connection to the phone, kinda says "HEY! you are connected to a computer, now do your stuff!"??
Is there a button combination to make it look for a recovery image ont he SD card like when I would flash my OLD Dell Axim X50??? Noone seems to know alot about this phone yet.

Sounds like you were in some sort of recovery mode. That more closely resembles the default Android recovery.
Nope.
It has a white icon of a cellphone pn the left, 2 dots, a orange triangle with an exclamation point, 2 dots and another icon that kinda looks like a computer.
Breaking forum rules, but whatever:
http // img231.imageshack.us/ img231 / 1830/ 0720000800.jpg
YAY! It worked. Just add a colon after http and get rid of the spaces.
Of course you know that if this we're happening to you on postpaid, they'd swap your phones out with no inbetween phone time. Your local T-Mobile store might also have loaner phone for you.
probably a cheap flip phone. I was forced to get Flexpay. I guess the last 7 years f ontime, in-full payments to anything hasn't fixed my credit at all. That would explain Verizon's want of a $400 security deposit.
So... I've been doing some research. If Odin can be used to reflash the stock firmwares onto the phone...and if this phone uses an SD card (only say this because windows recognized the internal storage as an SD card) and if one of the other Samsung Android phones when taken apart , had a SD slot for the internal storage (looks like you can actually easily replace the SD card) then what if I took apart the phone, removed the SD card and formated and partitioned it on my computer through my card reader...
These are all just educated guesses. I mean... it looks like my phone has no idea what to do because maybe the SD card is bad or something, unbeknownst to me, reformatted the card improperly.
I posed this same question to Samsung and have yet to hear from them.
What do you guys think? Anyone actually crack open their phones yet?
It seems to me that your options are limited.
I'd say you should root it and see if that gives you more options, but I don't know how feasible that will be for you to do at present.
Can't root a phone that's not booting up to recovery or being seen by a computer
Just received info from Samsung:
Yeah, it looks like the phone needs to be re-flashed or replaced. Head to your local T-Mobile Store or call them up."
So Samsung isn't willing to let go of any other information on this or even extrapolate on the idea of reflashing.
Again, it looks like there is no internal storage with a bootloader to tell the phone what to do.
i see 1 solution
when i bought my vibrant they told me i have 14 days to return or exchange the phone if there is any issues with it the phone came out on the 15th i think so you still have 6 days to take it in show them the problem and they can swap you out with a new vibrant
bricked my g1
When i got my first g1, I rooted it and tried to flash a rom. I bricked it! I called Tmo,I said it froze and wouldn't boot up. They walked me through troubleshooting(of course nothing worked) and said it was software and sent me a brand new one it was only 2 wks old. Maybe an idea for ya.
If you are with in your return period(30 days California, 14 everywhere else) I would take it back and get a new one instead of trying to fix it.
Why trying to fix it yourself? Bring it back to a t-mobile store and exchange for a new one.

I've bricked my G1 few times. t-mobile has always exchange it for me during the first year.
i know what your phone has theres a cure but you will most likely have to root it then return it back to stock look under the ms guru section for returning your phone to stock it should help you but then you need to do a restore with the nandroid backup to be completely stock. you'll have to put your phone into download mode hold both volume buttons and power let it do the vibrant screen twice then let go of power and still hold the volume buttons you should be in download mode proceed with the other things from there meaning ms guru and using odin
If you are having the problem I think you are, you should be able, if the software is compatible with Vibrant because I don't know if it is, to restore it with the Odin software or at least thorough a far more complicated process using adb. Check this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989, and see if you are having a similar problem.

I wanted to let you know I had this same issue and I was still able to get into download mode with the same method described in the earlier post:
1:with phone off hold down volume up and volume down buttons- keeps buttons held
2ress and hold power on button
3:when the screen with the computer and cellphone on it appear for the second time wait for it to disappear
4:when it disappears wait for 1 second a let only power button go and you will be in download mode(android with shovel\big yellow triangle) and you can flash with Odin.
I tried this 5 or 6 times before I got it right but in the end I was able to get back to stock ROM and phone was brand new. Hope this helps.

"No SIM card" error message

My Streak 5 displays NO CARD SIM error message with any simcards (different carriers).
This happened just suddenly after reboot. Before that, there were no issues with sim card.
I'm running custom ROM DSC v0.6b
Any ideas how to fix it will be greatly appreciated.
Changing firmware should not cause such a problem, so check the slot. You likely have a bent or dirty pin.

If I insert a different sim card which is PIN locked, the phone requests the PIN p.
so apparently the phone communicates with a sim card. After I input the PIN, the phone displays "Invalid SIM card" message
I still don't think this is software related. I would have the carrier check the SIM and make sure it's working properly. Ideally though, you can check this yourself if you have an old phone laying around.

I have tried different SIM cards, none of them worked in my Streak.
In the same time my SIM card is working right now in my good old Nokia.
Since it worked until yesterday reboot without issues, I may presume that might be a baseband failure.
I tried the Streakflash tool that supposed to update the baseband amss.mbn, but it did not work..
Go back to Froyo and see if the problem resolves itself that way. If it does you'll know that you had a bad flash, which does sometimes happen. From that point you should be able to reinstall a Gingerbread ROM and have it work properly.

The Streak originally was locked to ATT when I purchased it, but I unlocked it with the code which was provided by Dell support.
Now, the Streak prompts to input the unlock code, but says that there are 0 (zero) attempts left.
When I unlocked it for the first time, there were 10 attempts and I put the correct code from the first attempt.
Any advice or idea how to get back my device back to business will be greatly appreciated.
I believe you need to call Dell and ask them, because unfortunately I don't know how to help any further. I want to say you need a PUK code to unlock, but I think that applies to the SIM itself, not the Streak.

I have faced the same issue. My phone was bricked and then I resurrected it using JTAG (Riff-Box), but it was not reading the SIM card. I could not find any solution other than changing the main board.
I had the no sim issue, with phone.android service constantly force closing as well after updating to streakroid 2.4.4, even after flashing dsc, the problem persisted. After I reviewed the steps I had taken I realized that I never did a factory resest (fearing I would forever lose my precious app data, which I did -_-). It turned out that was the fix, after doing the factory reset, my sim card was recognized immediately and a couple of the text I had missed showed up.
Now the data I lost thats another story (I do have backups)
At this point I don't if it will help but maybe it will someone else who reads this thread.
Everything was fine and then my sim card stopped working after replacing the battery. I did a factory reset and still I get the no sim card error. Some times when I set the phone down the signal bars show and when I pick it up they go away. The sim card works in my other phone. My phone is on rooted 2.2 firmware.

Sounds like hardware issue... either SIM card (which might not be if it works on other phone) then there's something loose in the Streak

Even, I am having the same problem and tried flashing various ROMs and all the suggestions given in this forum. For me, it shows the "x" symbol on the signal bar. I don't believer that it's a hardware issue as it's pretty much reading my SIM, but not identifying. My phone is now in a useless state, a costly paper weight..huh!

I have tried with many sims. none of these are working in streak, but works perfect in another phones.
Friends, can someone please help me? I can't even imagine my hard saved money become a brick?
To update you all; I have noticed that sometimes the mobile signal works fine and I could able to make a call also. but, suddenly it again went back to the "X" mark on the signal indicator. any suggestions now, please?

Changing firmware should not cause such a problem, so check the slot. You likely have a bent or dirty pin.

I hate when some people on this and other forums, tell others rudely to do the homework! Look at the sticky's ext! We are here to help one another, not badger, be unkind and be unhelpful! I'm almost ashamed to think We as a people, cannot be kind and helpful anymore! I just don't get the negativity of some of the contributors! I certainly would help, had I been able to, but instead perhaps others will learn instead a valuable lesson in being a good human and treat one another with respect and kindness...instead of every other time seeing some telling an op or other person to search the sticky's, do the research ect! If Your not going to engage intelligently, the why engage at all?! I for one, apologize for the behavior of Our contributors and users...for such rude and disrespectful behavior! That simply is NOT what XDA was intended to be! Stepping down from My soapbox!
I know I shouldn't reply to this post, since it's apparently a troll, but....
Since you singled me out by quoting a nearly year-old post in a thread last replied to over five months ago, I have to presume your "soapbox" post was simply to boost your post count, since it's clear to me you didn't read the thread at all. Now...if you decided to waste a post in response to my signature, guess what? Searching before posting is the number one rule on this site. HTC Lagging Problem.

Hey there,I have an HTC U Ultra, and i've come to notice that tge CPU isn't going on full speed, when i have the power saver mode in,its works on certain speed same as when not having it only, the only difference is just no animation,no vibration feedback, and brightness, thats about it,i've even tried several benchmarks, and the results were very dissappointing than normal.
The Geek bench marks were as follows (on power saver mode)
Single core : 928
Multi core 2708
Without power saver mode
Single core
970
Multi core
2750
While geek bench score for the u ultra on their officicial website is
Single core :
1674
Multi core
4072
Is there any solution for this ? Im on android oreo btw(not sure if this problem was on nougat or not).
well look bro the new power-saving mode from htc is pretty aggressive on Oreo way more aggressive than nougat if u dont already notice it also stops any kind of playstore updates and apps dont last in the ram that muc but i think thats a good thing to save power!
and about the scores, well the same exact thing happened to me and i was extremely frustrated by what happened until i managed to fix it and seriously it was a ****in nightmare until i did cuz my ultra was getting geekbench scores simillar to my m9 lolol so i decided to reset the phone because its a big update and maybe the new system isnt optmized for the old apps but guess what it didnt work lol i still had tereble score so i was like thats it ! am going back to nougat so the first step was to unlock the bootloader which well did delete every thing on my phone again lol . so after unlocking the bootloader i would preceded with going back to nougat but i was like lemme complete the setup and do a backup unless i migh i just might wanna go back to Oreo and mid way throught the setup something told me to do a benchmark and omfg i got the best geekbench scores i have ever gotten on this ****in phone u wont even belive these scores man its that crazy! so ya long story short if want your performance back unlock the bootloader because reseting the phone just clears your data but it leaves alot of problems behind it but unlocking the bootloader completely bringd the phone to factory state and i know that because after unlocking the bootloader it didnt even ask me password of my gmail it just started a brand new setup process so ya performance is way better now and battery life is awesome! tell me if it works for you and please press the thanks button if u need any extra help just lemme know man am here for you

well you can relock it again but when you relock it is going to say"relocked" not locked so htc will know that you unlocked and then relocked but if you think about it, unlocking your phone does not void your warranty but if you missed around with your phone after unlocking the bootloader and damaged it sing bad software then htc will void your warrnty but they neve said they will void the warranty just beacuse you unlocked the bootloader and the secondary display has some bugs with me aswell but i dont care about it any way lol but everything else perfromance and battery life are great under oreo !

Used iCareFone for WhatsApp Transfer to transfer chats from my old phone (iPhone) to my new phone (OnePlus) and now the "Google" settings item appears weird.
I think that's how to fix it ... Is it really necessary to restore?
Or after the arrival of the update on Android 12 all should be normal?
Mine is the same. Google must want to differentiate themselves I guess

I've been having that issue as well, since before the update. Freaked me out at first because I rebooted like 20+ times and it still had no IMEI, SIM or WiFi. Finally I decided to reboot it via holding the power button down long enough to force a shutdown that way, upon restarting I had WiFi and mobile service immedately.
Randomly ever since my SIM remains undetected for about 30 seconds and eventually kicks in but WiFi doesn't.
Holding the power button down long enough to force shutdown seems to always fix it for me.
Next time it happens, if it happens, give that a try.

Very interesting. I have attempted this method but unfortunately have not had the same result as you. I've now at this point lost all ability to detect ANY sim card, and am actually in the process of taking the phone apart to inspect the pins themselves, even though the scratch marks are consistent and it appears as though they are getting a good solid contact. Wish me luck!

Do you have an IMEI still? First time it happened to me and I rebooted 10+ times it didn't have IMEI at all. And I doubt it's a pin issue, I never eject my sim card tray and if you haven't been messing with it then it can't have gotten damaged

I do again but it still refuses to connect to a network. It feels software related at this point but I still have not figured it out. Still trying to bypass the tmobile locked oem unlock (I am not qualified for them to unlock it)

You don't need to unlock sim to unlock bootloader, there is a modified msm tool you can use. What's different is that the boot.img doesn't work which allows you to do the critical unlock then flash the working stock boot.img
My advice though, use the older one with the crossed out links. The newest one causes device to identify as a 7T. The older one works just as good and identifies as hotdogg/hd1925 properly.

If you meant SIM unlock then no. There is literally no way around that. There was a guy who was doing unlocks if you were in the service for as little as 3 days but the forum has been "temporarily" shutdown for 3 months now.

Yea i've been following for about a year but i'm not one to give up lol. Theres another guy who made a tool that uses your IMEI and it generates the oneplus token, I've actually gotten it to work for ten minutes but forgot what I was doing in the process. I'm searching now again out of bordom but I believe it was something it unlocked in the factory test mode that manually bypassed the t-mobile oem lock as though we were a technician, but It has been a while and i could have missunderstood. I am new to rooting but feel like I have learned this device down to its bones at this point. Thank's Ubuntu-In-Termux for a great fake root.
