Im brand new to PDAs but Ive been reading lots on here and am not to sure how to go about making sure that Ive got the latest ROM running on my machine.
The ROM currently is 2.10.1.22 WWE and is dated 16/02/06. Is there a latest version that I can flash and how dangerous is it?
Also I wouldnt mind overclocking the CPU also, although Im aware there are a few risks. Whats the best way to go about this.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Personally I would not flash the rom - It's not broke - so no need to fix.
As for overclocking - check out the BatteryStatus thread. I use that util to run my device at 260mhz

I have a G4 CID-locked (not completely sure, but my info will tell) wizard. I bought it recently in ebay and wanted to ask a few questions. some are not wizard related, but I think I can ask them here to avoid opening another thread.
My info:
IPL 2.17.0001
SPL 2.17.0001
OS 2.17.7.2
rom version 2.17.7.2 WWE
ExtROM 2.17.7.102
radio 02.07.10
protocol version 413.1.03
I am happy with the current rom, but wanted something faster (and wpa2 support would be a plus). I need at least the same stability, storage space and speed that I have now. What do you recommend, AKU 3.x or WM6?
what is exactly the extended rom, what is it for? is it only for carrier programs?
I have the original qtek rom (updated from myqtek.com). Assuming I can get to the bootloader screen, I can always reflash with it and go back to what I have now, right? I mean, I can do this if I get a bad flash and if I'm not happy with the new rom.
is there an AKU 3.x rom for wizard without any extra software installed?
the same question for wm6 roms
I know the WM6 roms still have some problems, but what about the AKU3.x roms? are they (close to at least) bug free?
From what I read, there is now a way to flash roms without unlocking, but only the OS section. Is there a reason to update the other sections as well? can I update the other sections without unlocking?
Understand that I don't have a G4 device to play with but maybe I can answer some of you general questions and others can help you with G4 specific stuff.
1st, If you're happy with the way your device is working for you There's no real reason to mess with the os or radio. (unless you are like me and can't stand having an unhacked device laying around.)
Having said that, there are different types of rom updates. Some replace everything (boot loader, radio, os, extended rom, etc.) Others only replace certain parts, for instance the radio can be upgraded without changing anything else. Before changing anything else, make sure you have an original rom to go back to and that you know how to restore it. Also you should have a good backup program like SpbBackup. This won't save you from a bad flash but is really helpful in preserving your data and settings, especially since once you start down this road, you are going to start playing with more and more unstable bleeding edge stuff that will crash more often. You won't be able to stop yourself, it's an addiction - U have been warned!
There are plenty of good, stable, 2.2x roms around. For 3.3, faria-htc-wizard-aku3.3 seemed pretty stable for me. I'm using WM6 right now, but I don't feel that it's stable enough for inexperienced users just yet. As far as radio roms go, if your radio is working good for you I wouldn't change it. From my observations here, it really depends on where you are and who your carrier is.
If your reception is good, there is no reason to upgrade just to get a higher number on your boot screen. A newer radio version might make things worse.
Extended rom can hold anything the rom cook wants to put in it. Some are loaded with add on programs, some have carrier customizations, some are empty.
If all you want is zippier response, check out OmapClock, an overclocking app that makes the processor run faster.
Finally, read the threads and make sure you understand exactly how the process works before starting out and especially how the proceedure apples to a G4 device.
Other more experienced users are welcomed to elaborate or correct me if I am wrong on any of this, and add G4 specific advice.

Just curious if anyone know if theres a way to downgrade my wing to wm5, wm6 is nice and all, but i love the speed of wm5, and i use wisbar for the themes, it just seems like wm6 bogs everything down, even overclocked stable to 276! and the system tweaked. Anyone know if theres a way to downgrade??? Thanks for any reponses!
Wrong forum.
You should go to Herald forum for your Wing.
Thread moved.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong (as I dont have a wing) but AFAIK the T-Mobile Wing came with WM6 factory installed. The only option I can think of would be to cook your own, but it wouldnt be worth the time in my opinion.
PS: Not sure if you are aware or not of the Pagepool modification which would greatly improve the speed of many OS programs. If not heres a link:

couldnt u just pay for CID Unlocking through imei-check and then flash an unbranded Herald RUU rom? that's the only way possible. a rom flash is a rom flash, even if its downgrading. I think thats the only way possible
btw Taurus since your a mod is it possible for you to sticky this:

To Herald Mobile 6 thread. Alot of people having problems, mayb they might read it and do some research and maybe even save themselves some trouble.
Hi all!
Allow me to introduce myself, i am, the duke! my windows mobile history is as follows:
SPV E200, SPV C500, i-mate SP3i, Vodafone V1240, Himalaya, Charmer, Magician, Wizard and now.......HERMES! finally!lol
needless to say i am not new to rom flashing, and indeed have also cooked a few roms in my time.
i have a few questions here to which i hope i will get helpful answers and not just some smart-alec telling me to read the wiki! i am in the process of reading the wiki!
This is my first device that uses the newer 'NBH' files opposed to the old NBF's and tornado bootloader.
And there is clearly a few ways to flash, and what appears to me to be the best is using the 'HERMIMG.nbh' file on storage card technique.
my questions are as follows:
1) Which is the QUICKEST and most stable WM6 rom
2) After CID-Unlocking is it worth flashing Hard-SPL?
3) what rom do you reccomend and why?
this is all, please, no smart-arse comments! at the moment i am using the TNT5.0 rom on my wizard
many thanks
Fastest ROM
1.) I always found LVSW ROMs to be the most stable, always deployed without faults. As for the fastest, personally (as a basic users and abuser of a phone), I never found one to be vastly faster than another. Especially WM6 ROMs.
2.) Huh, never even crossed my mind not to.
3.) I'm back to WM5 Original T-Mobile shipped I'm afraid, I braved Schapps and vp3g ROMs (liked them both I must say), but I just had issues that forced me back...
Duke,
1) Not tried all the others on her but Schaps 354c lite is pretty quick.
2) Hard SPL = Always. Safe bet for Tytn Rom burning.
3) Schaps 354c full. Has everything I need and is incredibly stable, which was a key criterion for me. Plus Schaps himself has a Tytn so I was happy to use the Rom knowing he had built and tested it on my device type before throwing it out there.
So when are you going to start cooking then?
WB
My opinion
my Answers are as follows:
I found that the best stable ROM is Schap's 3.54C & 3.6A
Yes you have to do that to prevent bricking your device
I tried several ROMS the best I found in my opinion is Schap's it is a fast rom with an elegant interface I've been using it for more than a month with no problems at all, there are several roms I've tried like TNT2 and Cyphol which is really based majority on Schap's.
If you need any further assistance please PM me. happy flashing.............................

depends on what you mean by "authentic". flashing a new rom will NOT SIM-unlock your device. you might however lose any warranty...not sure about this, i never cared =)
if you are flashing a new rom, you should use USPL by pof to temporarily cid-unlock your device. if you KNOW your device is not cid-locked, you dont have to do this, but doing it anyway will not do any harm. i recommend using USPL everytime you flash a rom to your device.
if you use meschle's ROM as suggested by leethedon1 (i second that) USPL will be included in the download. just follow the steps.
read about flashing/cid-unlocking/USPL here:

I am looking for a rom which will give me better response time than the current one. Also I am looking for a very good rom which is stable. One more question. After flashing the rom with a new one, if I don't like it, is there a way to go back to the original rom?

since i dont know your current ROM i cant say anything about "better", "faster" or "more stable". however, meschle's 4.02 vanilla (and also lite) is one of the fastest and most stable ROM i tried. and i tried quite a lot...

you can't go back. what you can do is flash any other ROM (including your original ROM, as long as you have it somewhere). dumping your current ROM is possible, search this forum. however, that's advanced stuff.
Hi!
I have the strangest question
My phone is reaaallly slow, so I figured I'd do a hard reset and reinstall everything.
My question is, what should I do
Basically I just want the latest version of windows mobile and HD2 updates. To get it really up to date
So can you give me any recommendations on what exactly I should update?
Thanks
The easiest way is probably to flash a custom rom..... one of the newer ones.
Should contain all the freshest updatey goodness and give the speed your looking for.......
Best thing to do is work out which apps you liked and what worked and do a hard reset back to factory spec and only install the apps you like...
After getting the phone most of us install every app that comes along, settling for a few that are essential... Hard resetting and fresh installs will help greatly...
Only go a custom rom if you really know what you are doing and only if you are dedicated to try several to find one that suits you...

I know I used to do so with my old telephone (TYTN II), but recently I spoke with a friend of mine (he has a HD2 too). He's really into computers etc, and he has the latest roms and everything. He told me that his phone is A LOT faster now.
The only thing is: I have no idea where to start. Just download the latest windows mobile? or should I download the latest HTC HD2 rom? Or both? In what order? Any other updates?

Before i went down the custom rom route i did modify a stock 1.66 rom so i can make a comparison here between as shipped stock, modded stock and custom 6.5.5. I can tell you that 6.5.5 is miles better, faster and if you get a custom rom with a newer version of sense that's even better.
Flashing custom roms has been covered so many times many people are bored of replying but i'll see what i can do in one post.
First you need a copy of HSPL3. Search for it, it will turn up. Don't ask how to install it. All you need to do is run the exe in the file you download.
Then you have a choice. You can either install and updated radio rom (will possibly improve signal and battery life but to find the best one for you and your area may take a couple of flashes and some testing) or just skip straight to the main event. I recommend that all new rom flashers use Energy 23569 standard sense 2.5 because it's fast, pretty lightweight and very close to a HTC stock rom in looks which makes it pretty easy to use. To install follow the instructions in the first couple of posts of the energy rom thread.
I also recommend that you have a look at leocpuspeed V4 and chainfire's 3D driver patch v2 (search for those). Once configured they will greatly improve the performance of the device running any rom you install and it's well worth it.
if you dont wanna go custom rom, i guess you could check see if you have all the latest updates from the HTC site, take it from there, only install apps to the device that need to be on the device such as tweaking apps and install everything else on the sd card, and get your self clean ram or bsb ram sweeper, will reclaim the ram for you from the programs you thought you may have closed but didnt really close.
