I have not been able to have a simultaneous data and voice call on Cingular's 3G network with my new TyTN which has the 1.03.03.10 Radio ROM. Unfortunately, the 1.06 bootloader prevents me from upgrading that radio ROM to a newer radio ROM.
Hence, I am wondering if anyone here is able to have a simultaneous data and voice call on Cingular's 3G network with the TyTN and the 1.03.03.10 Radio ROM?
HI
check this out, it has a noid loader so it might work. let me no if it works, i think loading the latest radio rom

I had no troubles with this ROM configuration making simultaneous UMTS voice/data connections...
As you seem to be alone in your difficulties here, what did you do / what did you install to cause this problem? any ideas? were you ever able to do the simultaneous thing?

I don't think I did anything special (not that I know of). I did perform a couple of registry hacks to improve the look and feel of my TyTN.
The SW installed is as follows:
fit4cat Hermes Tweaker
Skype
CCDialer v2
Splash Data
Phonealarm
CityTime
MSVoice Command
Magic Button
PHM Registry Editor
Total Commander
Xpress Mail Client
The people that confirmed being able to have simultaneous data/voice connections all had upgraded ROMs. That's why I was asking...

Just performed the hard reset and {drum drum drum drum drum}
IT WORKS!!! Yipieh!
  AWESOME!!!
I too cannot place calls while I have a UMTS data connection open on the Rogers network. If the data connection is open, my phone just beeps and the call doesn't go through. If I disconnect, I can make the call. I haven't made any changes to the registry or installed a lot of software.
I've never done a hard reset, I imagine that wipes everything off the memory and I have to reinstall the applications?

Yes ... it will wipe out all your data/apps etc and start with a fresh slate ... What are you seeing in your phone connection "U" or "G"?

Both. I can't do both voice and data with a UMTS "U" connection, if I force the phone to GSM "G", it works fine.
Not possible .. GSM/Edge doesnt support simultaneous voice and data ..

It's very possible, I do it regularly, my phone keeps the data connection open, I can use IE and talk at the same time. But that's not really part of the problem, my problem is UMTS and voice/data.
UMTS data connection open means all the calls go straight to voicemail and I can't make any. I disconnect the data connection and I can then make and receive calls.
Keeping a connection open is not the point my friend .. using it at the same time is ... and how you defy the technology itself is beyond me ...
Hi,
Gravejoker is right. In GSM you can only have either voice or data active at any one time. Voice has priority. What happens though is the data service is suspended when you are on a voice call and resumed at the end. This is the spec for GSM, full stop!
There is a new addition on the horizon called DTM (dual transfer mode) which allow simultaneous voice and data by taking the GSM timeslot and puting halfrate voice and data in there but the quality of the voice is poorer and data slow but it does what it says on the tin. The TyTN doesn't support this (I've tried in my lab) and neither does most networks.
On the otherside UMTS networks should support simultaneous voice and data calls if there is enough available resource on the node B (which is hard not to have) so I'm thinking this is a problem in the radio ROM but can't be sure. I've not tested this yet in the lab.
Gav.
I'm not here to argue or even discuss GSM. I'm going by my experience with my Tytn. UMTS will NOT allow me to even place a call unless I manually go and disconnect the data connection, and I cannot receive calls while there is a data connection. With GSM, I do not have to disconnect the data connection on my device (how it technically works I don't care) and I can receive calls normally while my device says I have a data connection. My user experience would suggest that I can do data/voice at the same time on GSM, and I should be able to have the same experience with UMTS as well.
Hey tw1tch,
You are right, you should be able to do simultaneous voice/data on UMTS. Just incase this is an operator limitation are you able to try simultaneous voice/data with another phone with your SIM card? This will help show if it is or is not a problem the TyTN.

I think the Cingular 1.30 ROM has Bootloader 1.04. (The wiki is down at the moment, so I cannot say for sure - perhaps you want to wait until the Hermes Upgrades page is working again).
This ROM is matching your CID (you are on Cingular, aren't you?) so you can downgrade to bootloader 1.04 with the help of this one. Once you did that download HTC Hermes SIM Unlock v2a and follow these steps:
Enter bootloader mode on your Phone. To do this, simultaneously hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus.
[You should see SPL-1.04 on the top of the tri-color screen, if you see SPL-1.06 you'll need to downgrade the bootloader]
Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program – this will reflash your phone with a patched radio ROM required to unlock.
Wait patiently.
Once the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe upgrade completes, it will end up saying "Upgrade Error 114", but the patched radio ROM will be flashed anyway, dont worry about that error!
Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
Allow your phone to reboot. Once it has, connect to your PC using Activesync, and copy the HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe program onto your phone. Alternatively, copy it to an SD card and insert into your phone.
Run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone. Wait about 1 minute.
You should see a "SUCCESS!" message from HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe, after that soft reset your phone.
Process is (hopefully) complete!
If the phone requests unlock code when you put a locked SIM, the code is: 22051978.
Now you've got a SuperCID-Device. You will be able to flash any ROM you like - even if you upgrade to bootloader version 1.06 again.

Nope, my TyTN has a different CID than that of Cingular 8525 for which the Cingular ROM is made for.

For some reason - my QTEK 9100 fails to maintain the connection to my GPRS service. Once I connect, it holds the connection until I make/receive a phone call. Thereafter, the device shows the connection in place, but it fails to pass any more data through the connection. To keep using the data connection, I must either soft reset or switch flight mode on/off.
(Needless to say, I have been able to use my SIM in other GPRS-enabled phones).

Anyone have any ideas?
Is there a ROM upgrade or RegEdit that could do the trick?
Same **** with mine 9100 on MTS. We should get together to solve this issue. Let me know if you got the solution. My ICQ 2662731, phone no. 916 137 7540, Leonid.
Absolutely the same problem with my Qtek 9100 on MTS. Some people on the forums say it's operator's problem; others claim it's not. However, switching from MTS is not an option for me anyway (corporate cell phone number, etc.) so I would be very much obliged for any solutions, or at least hints towards what can be causing it.
One possible solution (haven't tested myself yet) is setting GPRS to 'always on' via the registry editor; however
a) Will it drain my battery much more than usual?
b) Won't GPRS get disconnected in standby mode?
hi
hi. try to initiate GPRS connection with the default inbox email. press send and receive to check email. let it connect GPRS. when someone call u. it still maitain but the during call, the other person must pick up the phone. if nobody pick up the phone. the GPRS will have problem and need to turon and turnoff radio again. this is the only to maintain gprs, that is, to initiate GPRS connection with the default inbox email.

One thing I know for sure:
it will not drain your battery any more that when connecting gprs on demand. I used to use the "grps always on" feature and can't tell the difference in battery life.
Regardless of the "gprs always on" setting I do sometimes have problems with the connection. The icons (gprs) say it's on but no data is transferred (no e-mail/www received) but it happens very rarely and I can't tell in what circumstances.
By the way: holding the red off-hook key for 5 secs closes the gprs connection - check if it doesn't make your problem easier to bare ;-)
Maybe you could try another operator's SIM - at leat you'd know if it's the Wizard or the operator.

Yes, I know about this one; however, since GPRS won't reconnect anyway, this doesn't solve anything for me.
Oh well, I'll keep experimenting and hopefully Qtek will release some ROM updates in the future to deal with the problem.
Update: After playing with the settings a bit, the problem indeed seems to be with phone calls; i.e. I can disconnect/reconnect GPRS manually without any problems, but once a phone call is made or received, GPRS stops reconnecting. I have a suspicion it's actually an operator issue but haven't had time to try some other SIM yet.

I called service today about this problem, they heard nothing about it, they said. Also they invited to flash rom, that was released month ago, they said. I asked them about version but call operator didn't know.
I'm afraid to do that because they could flash older verison than I have, and there are some roms that have troubles with incoming calls, I read in russian Qtek forum.
My version:
OS: 1.3.9.4 RUS
Date: 9/29/05
Radio: 01.01.10
Protocol: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM: 1.1.7.105
I read there are some utilities to save rom but I cannot find how to save rom to hard disk to restore it in future surely.
My version is:
ROM 1.1.7.9
Date 9/16/05
Radio 01.04.10
Protocol 4.0.13.17
ExtRom 1.1.7.111
(Russian OS)
Just read on some Russian forums that there were the same problems with s100 until the new radio version was released, so I guess we just have to wait.

Just tried it myself, didn't work for me either.
So far, the problem can be diagnosed as: regardless of GPRS status, a phone call (outbound or received) will screw up the existing GPRS connection and any future attempts to reconnect unless a soft reset/flight mode switch is made.
I hope to god a ROM update will be available in the near future; meanwhile, any and all suggestions are welcome.
Today I visited service, they flashed me the same rom I already had. Then they tried to solve problem at least 2 hours but with no success.
I advised them to be ready for crowd of users of 9100 who connect to MTS.
Technician said I have to wait new rom update, but he cannot say nothing about release date.
I want to beleave...
Some guy at Russian forums put forth an idea that our problem might in fact be an issue with lousy MTS implementation of EDGE.
So in theory it could be solved by turning EDGE off entirely (if it is indeed possible).
Same problem on my Qtek 9100 ... is there any updates available for the ROM?
I have this same problem on both my Kjam and Qtek 9100. I am in the United States and use Cingular. I suspect this is not a carrier problem.
I'm in the US on Cingular with a Qtek 9100. I think the issue is that the carrier drops the GPRS connection after time, or the signal is lost and WM5 doesn't react. Either way, seems like leaving GPRS in constant ON mode plays into the problem rather than help it. After installing GB-SOFT Tweak http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4714.html and setting it to release GPRS if unused for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I don't get the GPRS problem nearly as often. Furthermore, when a GPRS lockup does occur, turning flight mode on and then off again restores function without the long cycle time of a soft reset
Christian
I had the same problem on my IMate and it was fixed by turning off (2sec) and then turning on your device once the GPRS connection was established. Haven't tested on my jam yet
I have the same problem since upgrading to AKU2 ROM - before I never had that issue...
I have my JJ since October 2005. It worked 100% on the original ROM. Early Dec. 2005 I upgraded to the then latest Radio and ROM's. No issues.
Then suddenly From January I cannot get the Phone to work or connect to a data connection. I was told to upgrade to a 64Bit SIM which I did but still no result. I have installed every release of the Radio ROM and every ROM version compatible on the Uni up to date.
When the BAND is set to Auto it will not give me a data connection nor will the phone work. When in GSM same result. When I put the BAND in WCDMA it works 100%. Data connections work, Phone works, SMS etc. Problem is it only works in 3G areas now!
HELP, after 2 months I'm pulling out my hear and carrying my SP3i as backup.
Bump
@postman
what other applications are you using? Have you tried to start a fresh system with no third part apps (ie after a hard reset)? Have you tried to use the .cab files from i-mate for your network?
When I had a JJ I had frequent connections/disconnectiond between GPRS and UMTS. With the latest Radio on my XDA Exec I don't suffer from such frequent switching and it seems to have improved the batetry life as well. I used radio rom version 1.06.00.
J,
At the moment with the new ROM no apps installed appart from the ExtROM. Local network .cab also installed.
Problem is not as such that swtiching is taking place, problem is in BAND = Auto or GSM the Uni does not work for neither phone service nor data. When in WCDMA it works 100% without any issues. Like I said the prob. with this is that 3G is not covered like GSM, so if I leave work the phone feature is basically null and void as only GPRS/GSM/EDGE in area where I live.
Maybe the 3G and GSM/GPRS works off diff stacks / protocols or even hardware?
Yours desperate,
postmanpat
@postman, if you have tried to reflash your JJ and still the problem persists and the original problem did not occur because you added any third-party s/w then my conclusion is that you may have a hardware problem. Contact i-mate they usually reply within 2/3 days.
I would say you probably have a hardware problem !!, the GSM and UMTS aspects of the phone are very separate !!!
This is me trying to force a connection to the internet, but it wont cause it thinks its on a call. This is not good if you want emails coming down.
The only way I know how to over come this issue is to to a soft reset.

Any ideas, how I can detect this or overcome this without doing a soft reset.

If I'll have time, I'll install the newest ROM (the one that supports A2DP) and see wether the problem still exists or not...

One solution to this is to use 3G (UMTS) instead of regular GPRS (GSM). 3G lets you use both data and voice connections at the same time. If you dont have 3G in the area (not sure why you bought a universal..) then you can try hard resetting by holding down the left and right softkeys (two buttons with -s) and pressing in the soft reset button.

This solution is not a right solution for me: when the Qtek is unable to create GPRS connections, it's also unable to create UMTS data connections. It says that there isn't modem on the other end of the line, etc...
The newest ROM is: WWE
1.30.77
1.30.1641.09.00
The other comment is that to use data and voice connections at the same time the network must be also capable of doing this.
Club Imate seam to be slow in posting new ROM they still show this ROM as the latest..

I have the same issue sometimes ... I usually over come it using connmngr to switch the phone off then on again ... the pain with this issue is that you don't know it's stopped unless you try to make a call or GPRS session :x
I am going to have to code something up Skschema to ensure 100% a connection every time on re freshing internet link.
Logic
Run Command Com
Turn off phone
Turn on phone
Run GSM connection
I also get other error messages like
- Cannot connect to modem at other end
- No modem found at other end.
The main point is if you dont have 4 strong bars showing internet connection will always be risky.
And as the Jas Jar ( O2 Exec ) cant have a direct fixed connection via the GSM jack on the phone, its only assistence can come from a wireless repeater for home use, and if you are mobile then the Booster cant be found as a fixed GSM connection cant be made to the device.
A repeater is not a booster.
A repeater is for home use when you are not moving. Hence wireless is ok. This is more for signal sending not receiving
A signal booster is required for mobile use and a direct connection to device is required ( not available to Jas Jar as yet). This is for both receiving and sending. Direct connection is the best option.
MAIN POINT : The manufactures should have done extreme testing with low bars signal ( say two ) as well as high signal ( say 4 bars ), with the use of signal repeaters and boosters, AND THIRD PARTY ADAPTERS....which they obviously did not do....
My Dopod D810 from 3 drops calls regularly.
I think every single call will drop out after about 1-2 minutes. I also notice that when my phone is 'warm' from charging or other uses, the call can drop as quickly as 10 seconds into the call.
Initially it was suggested that the drop outs were due to my Phone > Band selection being set to 'Auto' but I have since changed this to Network Type=WCDMA and GSM/UMTS band=UMTS(2100+800).
But now I'm more inclined to think it has something to do with the device's temperature....
Any other ideas other than taking it back to 3?
Try changing the Radio ROM.
I had a similar problem after changing my Radio ROM from 1.41.00.11 to 1.46.00.11. Now I`m using 1.46.30.11 version and everything is OK. I even noticed a GPS signal level improvement.
I have the similar problem too. I m with 3 Australia. Upgraded to WM6 official ROM, still observing if call drop still happened.
If not, will take back for warranty repair
I am using a HTC-branded P3600 with the official HTC GPS-enabled WM5 ROM on the Vodafone UK network. With reasonable approximation I can say that I have 0 dropped calls (including calls made or received while in car).
My network type and band selections are both "auto".
Sometimes I make calls while the phone is charging via USB from a laptop (which makes it rather warm) but I haven't noticed any dropped calls in that situation either.

Thanks for all the replies. Went ahead and upgraded ROM and Radio version to 3.00.707.16 and 1.46.30.11, respectively.
So far, no problems with call dropouts but I haven't made many long calls on it over the last 2 days but will keep assessing.
On the previous incarnation, I had also installed/uninstalled a LOT of programs over the 6 weeks I had had the phone so perhaps that contributed to the phone's instability too...
For me, it kinda worked the other way around...
I never experienced any call droppouts when I still had the original WM5 ROM with radio version 1.33.30.10 on my Dopod D810. (I'm with 3 in Australia)
After upgrading to the ANZ WM6 ROM with radio version 1.46.30.11, I can sometimes not even establish a connection as the call is dropped after the first ring or so. The other day I had to make a call 5 or 6 time to finish the conversation...
Is anybody else having similar issues AFTER upgrading?
Hi guys,
good to see that i'm not the only one that have call drop regularly.
Well, in fact, those are not always call drops.
Sometimes i miss calls and some other times, when i want to make a call, i see that my trinity's loosing the signal and starts to search for networks. Then i have to switch off the phone through the Connection Manager, then turn it on again so that i can make phone calls.
Are you experiencing the same on your device?
I'm still using Radio ROM 1.38.00.11
Do you guys have a link where to download the latest Radio ROM so that i can try it on my Trinity?
Thanks.

Yep, I experience drops after upgrading... But the strange thing is... even after downgrading to the shipped rom... still drops... ARRGHHHHHH
I'm just going to try another rom I think... not sure yet. Have switched my band from auto to fixed. First gonna see what happens.
Some said it is due to 3G/3.5G trying to establish a data connection (most likely for push mail) and in doing so the phone function is disabled. I did not verify this claim.
If anyone wants to test it, you might want to try:
1. disabling 3G and 3.5G
2. disabling data connection
and tell us the results!

I will disable HSDPA. But I cannot disable my data connection because that's THE reason I bought my device for (using it for pushmail but I can use that with UMTS/GPRS connection also, don't need HSDPA for it).
I have found if I have network on AUTO i cant make calls, phone call drops straight away.
Switching to GSM allows me to make calls, but then I have no 3G
Found that radio rom 1.46.00.11 has no calls dropping for me. So I'm gonna stick with that one.

I have this ROM actually installed in my Trinity, and i still have call drops regularly
Once more today, it started to ring, then lost signal.
I'm wondering how much people has the same issue.
I used to have the same problem. I've reflashed my phone so many times coz of that.
But it seems like my problem's finally fixed
I'm using the most updated PDAVIET wm6 rom with Radio: 1.50.08.11
Been using that for about 2 weeks, haven't had a call drop since.
However I have had a few hangs here and there.
I run a lot of apps so the memory is pretty low most of the time. Yet for some reason I'm not getting any call drops so I'm happy. (Finally able to talk for like 15 mins without breaking up)
just fyi i'm also with 3, and don't have that band setting since I luv HSDPA yet certain areas only got Telstra reception...
Calls drop out
Hi, I'm in Sydney with 3 and haven't had any problems at all with the shipped WM5. After upgrading to the latest official WM6 ROM version 3.00.707.18 from the Dopd site things went bad with phone calls and weak signals.
Now upgraded the Radio to version 1.50.08.11 and everything's back to how it 's supposed to be.
Cheers and good luck.
Have upgraded to stock 1.66 WWE via HSPL (downloaded from HTC UK). Noticed today that when I'm on a call I can't seem to connect to network data (e.g. Opera, weather update). Bluetooth/WiFi appear unaffected. Also, network data works fine when call ended.
This isn't normal is it? Any ideas anyone?
ROM 1.66.405.2.(76641) WWE
Radio 2.06.51.07

I think that is normal, mine has always been like that.
edit - just had a quick google, apparantly this is only the case when you are not in a 3G area - if you have a 3G signal then you can do both at the same time.
Exactly. It is 100% normal.
As above - totally normal.
The GPRS connection can only be used for 1 thing at a time, so if you're making a call then you can't use the connection for anything that requires a data connection, unless you have an alternate connection available, such as 3G.
What a dope...
Can't beleive I've had a mobile for all these years without knowing that. Thanks all.

e.g.Thats the reason why your "my Phone" sync - if used- is failing everytime you are in a call and its scheduled to sync at the same time during your call....

Oh, that is exactly the other side of my earlier question, that you will fail to receive calls if you are engaged in a GPRS data connection.
