right converted my dvd to a avi file and now got to put onto my memory card, but when i click copy it goes to copy it but when it gets half way it just re starts copying it again? is it cause the file is too big?
also how do i check how much memery space i got left on my memory card?
same problem
They only way I have found to copy mpegs or avi's to the mem card is to skip activesync altogether and use the adapter for my minisd card to plug into my laptop directly ( I have an sd port). If you dont have that you can buy a usb adapter that will do it. I then do a normal file copy to the storage card, place it back in the wizard and it works fine.
If you dont have an adapter for your memory card use wm5torage http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271652
I haven't dl'd any movies yet, but have had similar problems with large files. I have found that if you go to Tools->Options and uncheck Media, then Sync and disconnect and reconnect your device, it should not restart your Sync proccess midway.
After the file is dl'd, just reselect Media, and Voila!
Hope this helps!

so i downloaded Pocket Quake for my wizard and am copying my pak0.pak file to my SD card. its a 175mb file and i have 1.4 gb free on my card. i tried exploring the device via Activesync and drag n drop the file, but it copes a portion of the file and shows that the device is unplugged!!!!!
i tried putting the miniSD into the SD card adapter and put it in my SD card slot on my laptop and i cant even access it because it keeps telling me that my card is not formatted. i have formatted this card before, but i guess it wont let me access it within windows.
how the heck am i going to get this 175 mb file on my card? this is so frustrating! thanks.
Its a bug with activesync - you have to use a card reader to transfer large files or wm5storage (use storage card as usb storage device). Activesync sucks!
wm5storage download link http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=11800
I noticed when I move any file to the minSD through ActiveSync, it takes FOREVER. A song takes at least one minute to transfer. I dont have a card reader so I havent tried that yet.
im afraid to eject my card, cuz everytime i do, it messes up on me...

i just installed this on phone.. how do i use it?
thx for the program, meschle.
it took me a while to figure it out too, but u go to START, ACCESSORIES, then run the program, ACTIVATE and if you have your wizard plugged into your usb then it should detect as a removable drive.
it worked for a while at first, but now my data on my storage card seems to be corrupted =\ gotta figure this out now.

It might be corrupt becuase u unplug da cable to fast. 100 mb file is big for ur device's processor, wait awhile before you unplug the cable
hi
My G1 can't copy large file from computer to G1's SD card via USB. Everytime i tried to copy a large file to SD card via, the G1 will turn off the USB storage. Would you like to let me know how to fix it? Thank you very much.
Define large.
And secondly, what happens if you try to even access the files on your SD through windows? Do you get the same behavior?
Filesystem is formatted fat16 OR bad USB wire OR you use windoze.
I am having a similar problem. I have a Rogers G1 and bought a 16GB Lexar card from Walmart for $55 CAD(seemed like too good a deal and it was). Took it back after trying to reseat the card several times and the issue still persisting. The 2nd card is still having the same problem.
I first noticed it when trying to copy my 8 gb MP3 collection... after about 5-10 mins of transfering the SD card becomes unmounted.
I suspect that it will work fine if I mount the card in an adapter and put it in my laptop, but will confirm.
Might try to fatten up the micro sd card a bit where the connectors are, and see if it makes better contact with the phone...if transfers work from the laptop.

'Large' means the file size is more than 100MB. I can copy the large file to SD via USB adapter successfully. And G1 itself can access large file successfully. Now i have not test it in Linux environment.
thl16888, What kind of memory are you using? Who did you get your phone through? Little shy with your details..
I am able to copy files from widows directly to the card as well...just not so well on the phone.

My SD card is Scandisk 4G. I can copy large files into sd card via USB reader. it is not so well via G1's USB.
There is a 4 gig file size limit on Fat32 format. So anything larger will not work.
I have the same problem in Windows. However in Linux it works perfectly so I know the phone cable and SD card are fine. That only leaves one problem, Windows! I think the Windows USB driver is not very stable.
My g1 had the same problem..so what I did was mounted it in terminal..the phone can't scan it so it can't close it...so heres the url enter this in the terminal emulator or console click here
i have a similar problem to, help plx
I have similar problem to, but itz with any file, until the smallest note 1kb.
I try to copy a file, like a music, ok, its there, but after when I remove safely the usb, and unmount on the g1, I look for the file and its not there. I tested with every type off archives, and with a 200mb file, the sd don't keep the file. Help plx , maybe its a config wrong.
Ahh, and I can't download files on g1 by browser, it says that I haven't space, but I have 3GB on sd and 20mb on internal.
Before I haven't this 2 problems. Someone know what are the problem?
Sorry by the bad english, I'm portuguese =P
I have the same problem, i can't copy big files to the G1. When i put the sdcard in a card reader, windows detects nothing.
Download MountUSB App from the Market on your G1, and try again....that worked for me.
I'm having similar problem just copying a 646KB file for Cookie Monster's app. It constantly disconnects from my pc.
I've got hold of a new MicroSD card, class 2 16Gb.
I've got about 6Gb of music which I want to copy across but I am having huge problems.
Firstly I tried using Windows Media Player sync function - but it only works for about 20 tracks and then stalls.
Copying the files directly using 'Disk' or 'ActiveSync' settings - look like everything is OK, but when I look at some of the contents of the folders they have wierd/scrambled names.
What is really puzzling me, is that I have both quick, and full, formatted the SD Card and the same folders are always messed up. I have tried every combination of copy method I can think of!!! The files are fine on my PC.
Copying the backup of the contents of my old SD Card onto the new one works fine.
Anyone else had this? Is it my SDCard that is screwed? Please Help!!!
no it's active sync and media player that are screwy. for best results put the card in a card reader on your pc, or if not available when connecting the phone to pc choose disk drive mode and copy it that way.
I'd say you got a faulty / "fake" card.
Hey,
I was wondering if someone could help me out. I just got an HD2 today and am trying to transfer some cab files from my computer to the phone.
I hook up them up and when I open browse the memory card from my computer all the files don't show up.
Then when I put the cab files under my documents on the SD card and unplug the phone from computer..the files don't show up under the file manager..
What do I do?
Edit:
I also formatted the SD card...to no avail
When you connect your phone it should ask you active sync or disk drive. Click it to disk drive and that should let you get files on to your storage. Why did you have to format your sd card to begin with?!
Whenever I want to put some audio file like mp3 into my memory card and return back to my device, i can't find any of it in the memory card.
I tried unmounted the SD Card and mount back also cannot solve it.
It just won't show up in explorer and music application. So i plug it back to the PC and found that all the songs are gone from the memory card
Anyone mind to help? Thanks.
Hey,
try this procedure:
1. go into harddrive mode to move your files on your device
2. When done with transfer, go to your win (pc) task bar and unmount android device safely (not unplug the cable, only chose the option)
3. On your device change mode from harddrive to load only. Wait a few seconds until sd card is mounted again. then unplug cable and you should be ready...
this at least helped me...

I tried your method but no success.....
I am sure I have removed the device safely in PC, change mode to charge only and wait until SD card finishes remount
Problem solved using Droid Explorer to transfer files and then let SD card prepare itself
What I have always done is put all the Music into "Music" folder on the SD card and the albums in folders within the Music folder. I know it sounds simple but if you are putting audio directly on the SD card, then it might dismiss the audio files as not needed for Android.
Also make sure your SD card has had a full format before putting the Music onto your card. Make sure to backup your data first of course. Then once formatted and files have been transferred to your SD card, go to computer and right click and eject to make sure it is safe to remove. This is what I always do and I have never had any problems.

why are you making this so complicated? if you're having issues why not boot into windows, sync your phone with the pc, transfer all the mp3's you want into a music folder in your sd card, boot back into android and they'll be there.
