Hi all,
My Vario II kepps telling me that it's trying to run a programme when it switches back on to the today screen from standby.
I can't find this application (I'm pretty sure its from a previously removed programme) in windows/start menu/ or, windows/startup
It also doesn't appear in the today screen anywhere.
Anyone any ideas where it might be located, or how to remove it?
Thanks
Ratzz
Notifications
Try using MemMaid or some similar software to look in the notification queue, there are events that can happen when the PPC come out of standby - maybe there is one in there for the app that is being called.
You never mentioned what the app was....

Hi Charlie,
Boy, that was a quick reply!
I will give MemMaid a go - the application was part of TomTom which I removed.
Ratzz
The file is called 'services' and is located in the windows directory.
Has anyone else got this file in their directory? Do I need it?
Thanks
Ratzz

BTW, I used 'Mobile TaskManager v1.4.5' for what it's worth - a good little freeware tool.

Anyone else experiencing notification queue dups on their JasJar? I'm getting this on an AppRunAfterRestore event. At first I blamed Pocket Informant (sorry Alek...), but I see that after a hard reset they still occur. I have installed the following apps, but cos this does not happen immediately, I have not yet figured out the culprit All latest versions):
- PocketPlus
- MobiPocket reader
- spb weather (will uninstall cos not updating)
- AeUptime
- GPRS monitor
- eWallet
- Pocket mechanic
- Total commander
- no skype, no eTrust AV
I'm keep to find a proggie I can chron to run at midnight that will clean the queue without manual intervention. Anything out there?
sddaemon is a service of the voice dial app. Look in your startup folder and the exe should be there. You can try moving it to another folder and see if it has any impact on voicedialling (my guess is it will). You can check Scarybear's website http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ for two freeware apps; one will allow you to clear duplicate notifications manually and the other will go into your startup folder and will clear notifications on every soft reset. Hope that helps
Edit: the startup app may not get the sddaemon notifications, but give it a try and see what it does.
Thanks for that efjay - didn;t know what sddeamon was for.
Scarybear; I'm afraid it doesn't cover this dup:
Note, this startup program will only remove these events: "SSTimeChange" and "conmgr.exe", and "IA_Caller_ID.exe" (with an event type of "AppRunAfterRestore").

Scarybear; I only tried the manual one and it did not clear the queue, so I presumed the auto one would also not work in WM5. WIll try it now.

Dont forget to go to the settings and check the option to remove duplicate events. I tried it on my BA with WM5 and it cleared all duplicates i had.

I have Ewallet in common. I heard more about it but cannot find it.
Huib
eWallet is a ***** - not nearly as compatible as ppl think. If ur JJ won't turn on, it's almost definitely an eWallet notification set to run on wake-up. EVERY time I run eWallet I go to my queue and kill the app it adds. Main issue is that it's path is to the SD card, and card is not readable in those first few microseconds of wake up, so device cannot get past that point.
If u have this problem, soft reset, go to notificaiton queue, and find \storage...\program files\eWallet\.... - kill the little bugger!

I remove my duplicates with Pocket Mechanic. And..., how now brown cow... after soft reset they are all back... (nope, there are even two or three more)

Just remove sddaemon.lnk from \windows\startup\
then soft reset. it is ok
I put smartskey and omap onto my mda...it wasn't working properly so I uninstalled it....
there are no visible signs of the programs on my device but everytime my device wakes up or powers on i get this:
Notification Error
Cannot execute "windows/start/menu/newfoldr/smarskey.exe"
then behind it i get
Notification Error
Cannot execute "smartskey/snartskey.exe"
I just want this to be off of my device since it has been so much trouble. Can someone please help me figure out how to get rid of this without having to do a hard reset?
\windows\startup
remove it from there...
and also remove the smartskey folder where you installed it from...
i did that...nm i ended up doing a hard reset. I deleted the program and folder...there were no visible traces...idk what happened
I had this problem too. Extremely frustrating especially since I had removed all traces (so I thought) of smartskey.
Turns out, Smartskey leaves behind a notification message that gets queued up even if you remove the program and it's shortcut from the startup menu. You need a program like MemMaid to clear the notification message.
Annoying Smartskey issue, PLEASE help

I also have this problem on a Wizard and a Prophet. Even though you remove 'all traces' of Smartskey it keeps coming up wuth the queued notification message. Does anyone have a fix for this?
I tried using MemMaid demo about a week ago but it wouldn't install on the Wizard. I might try it on the Prophet. Can anyone confirm that if I buy the full MemMaid software it will remove this annoying issue i.e. does it run & install on WM5 XDA's?

MemMaid is WM5 compatible. I use it on my Wizard without problem.
EDIT:
Re uninstalling smartskey - I thought there was a specific way to uninstall it mentioned in the smartskey thread? Does this not work?

Just tried MemMaid (demo) on the Prophet. It cleared the problem straight away. Went back to the Wizard and MemMaid also worked on that, both machines now clean of the Smartskey notification message. Now that I know how to remove the message I might play around with Smartskey some more. The Smartskey concept is quite good but it seems to interface badly with Omapclock (might just be Microsoft's buggy notification software).
MemMaid also looks a good utility for $15. I think originally I might have been trying to run the MemMaid (installation) exe from the Wizard rather than installing over ActiveSync.
hi, i use smartskey and omap together and they both work beautifully with each other, my device is quicker thanks to omap clock and the wizard is excellent as a one handed device thanks to the shortcuts it creates just like the prophet device where it creates ur soft keys to be the start button and OK button as well.....its like having 2 extra keys just like the prophet.......you can also use the software Check Notifications 1.9 by ScaryBearSoftware to get rid of the smartskey.exe from the notifications queue......
MemMaid v. Smartskey
I installed Smartskey, and it was unhappy. Then the bloody "Notification Error..." started popping up consistantly.
Reinstalled Smartskey, no help.
Uninstalled, No Help.
Looked it up here, Installed MemMaid
Problem Solved.
BTW- Reinstalled Smartskey and OmapClock and they work wonderfully. My initial eror was installing to the SD Card and not main memory.
Thanks for the fix.
hi,
I want to make my app realy exit when user taps on the x button in the upper-right area of the screen, so what msg should I handle to do this?
I am using MFC eVC++ 4.0
Thanks
Mohammad
I don't remember the exact link right now, but on the same site I gave you before (www.pocketpcdn.com) there is an article about handling "smart minimize".
Just do a search.
there is already a program out there called wclose.exe when you hit the x it will ask you if you want to close, if you choose yes it shuts it down, if you choose no it just minimizes it
and there are plenty of other programs, but I don't remember their names.
I however remember that Wisbar Advance and SPB Pocket Plus has them
There's also MagickButton, but mohgdeisat is looking to incorporate this functionality in to a program he is writing, not to use a 3rd party app.
By the way, here is the link to the article:
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/close_app.html
Thanks guys,
I got the topic and I am reading it, hope it works.
and a special thank you for levenum
Mohammad
be careful using such applications on some programs
not sure if it's the case with wm2005 but with 2003
closing outlook that way just after a sms would sendt
would result in a stuck sms icon and 2 sms's sendt
A anyone got link for wclose i cant seem to find it anywhere :?
Thanks
MagicButton or wclose?
Which is better MagicButton or wclose? I am using MB but sometimes it kind of makes prog go in a loop they don't shut down keep popping up. This is happening after the ROM upgrade... any help on which is the best prog for close app jobs?
wclose.exe

Hi all. Need some help please. I had recently used the 'hide' TrayApplet program but after uninstalling Spb Shell, decided that I could do with it being back, but don't want large icons on my Today screen again.
Hkey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\HTC\TrayApplet
above I found the links to each of the icons in the tray and can successfully point them to programs of my choice. Great!!
No! The links now work a treat, but the old icons remain the same (therefore hard to distinguish what does what until you tap it).
Does anyone know how to or where the registry entries are for the icons in the TrayApplet? e.g when I tap on the web n walk icon, I now get my configured Internet Explorer, but no associated icon.
Any help appreciated.
No one here hot on Reg-editing? Tried looking at the Universal wiki and their Reg hacks, but it most of it seems to be filed using different naming conventions and some alternative methods.
In any event. The above post shows where the links are (in seperate folders)....which can be permanently deleted and will then remove them from the TrayApplet.
Thanks for the info. I am still trying to decide what to do with the tray on my phone.
Try this cab file.........i'm using it on my Ameo now. It creates a programe in your programe folder with which you can turn on/turn off your tray applet as you wish. Hope it helps
Sorry MACKABY007, never read your firsy post correctly oooops

No probs neildunne..at least you tried to help.
And someone else has benefitted from your answer.
Is there a simple regedit to enable/disable the trayapp?
Yep there is
Yes you can do it manually.
Go to HKLM\init and create a strin Launch92 and give it the value TrayAp.exe. When you want to remove it delete the key.
Can somebody post the HTCHomeplug plugin so I can use this one instead of the taskbar?
WA3 will solve it.
I'm happy. God is listening.
System Tray Features
* Added the ability to place program icons on the system tray.
On the screenshot above, you'll see icons that don't normally appear on the system tray. WisBar Advance 3 now allows you to place icons on the tray as a "quick launch" bar, similar to iLauncher and several other software packages.
Get it here:

I too would like to remove this tray bar at the bottom. I dont like it and cannot find how to remove it on my X7500.
I know how to do it on my universal, but the registry is not the same.
Any light on this would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Thanks from me for this too.
Although I am curious to know... from the community at large perhaps... the Today screen is evidently made up of a series of components... TSk files for the theme... applet files for additional display options... the HTC plug-in software to modify the HTC HomePlugin etc.
It seems a bit odd to me... given the apparent effort put into theme creation software by quite a few writers... that those same coders stopped where they did... at themes.
It seems like only half of the job... even the admittedly-clever HTC Home Plug-in Customiser goes that far and no further.
I'd expect at least one developer to come up with a more comprehensive product... the modules do exist as separate entities... theme designers... plug ins and customisers... and especially with the advent of WM6 and VGA screens...
I've had two Blue Angels now for a couple of years. It never occurred to me to play with themes. The only modfication of the desktop was from whatever software went in and did so as part of the package... XCPU Scalar and some SPB items for example. I never even bothered to upgrade the Windoze from 2003SE. Everything seemed to work alright, and most software that I try to use on it still does too.
Now we have two Ameos as well... both running different versions of WM6... different ROMs... one of which (the later) is T-Mobile.
And, probably due to the larger screen, I decided to take a look into the desktop.
The T-Mobile flavour did indeed come with this Tray App, and it is only today and on here (naturally) that I have actually found out the designation of the thing.
XCPUScalar knew all about it long before I did, and stuck it's Speed, Reset, and Off buttons in it.
The other Ameo came with what I think may be a vanilla (HTC) version of WM6 and the HTC Home Plug-in... and I only recently learned about that here too... none of this appears in the little manuals T-Mobile inlcude with the Ameo of course.
I wonder now, as I write, if a fairly basic and simple method of getting rid of the Tray App may simply be either removing it from the Windows folder or perhaps renaming it.
Either way, your method works well for me... as does XDA-developers per se... and without whom all HTC customers, whether members here or not, would be a great deal poorer.
Personally, I do wish that I understood a good deal more of the subject matter, especially in the deeper-delving posts... but at least with xda-developers being here... all of you... the possibility exists.
Thank You once again... all of you.

I recently uninstalled wisbar advance and desktop.
It must not have uninstalled correctly, because after i deleted the remaining files, i recieve a notification every time that i unlock/turn on my phone that says
"Cannot Execute \Program Files\Lakeridge\Wisbar Advance Desktop\wakeup.exe"
How do i solve this problem?

But maybe someone here can help you as well!

i just got an idea. Would it be possible to write a dummy program that does nothing but DOES resolve the requirements?
From what i understand, the program is triggered, and then the program directs the next action, no?
it would probably cause more problems than it solves.
I suspect its hidden in the registry somewhere and its probably trying to call it to do "theme" stuff on wake up. If its not there any more and the phone operates fine once youve cancled the error then i would recommend taking a registry backup and trying to fish it out of the registry.
out of interest what version wisbar was it, im running v3 here i could try and see if i can find anything in the reg
using file explorer go into windows/startup and see if you still have w.a in there, if you do delete it.
no w.a in startup, i've already deleted references in the registry
This app is cursed for real, I have the same issue. At least (for me) is just that little pop screen when I unlock the phone.
yeah thats the same problem i have.
annoying.
