Well, i'm so stoked about the great answer to me fullscreen que got the doozy tcp.. player downloaded now and as was said works a treat.
My next que is that i have a piece of software on a windows pc based installation cd. i also have the same software in pdb format.
i have a 4gig sd card so space is not a prob.
Is there any way of installing this software ???
Cheers guys.
Be more precise - what is "piece of soft"?
Most software You are installing through activesync process. Some of them You can just place on the SD card to install - they are called CAB files and You can run them from Your JasJar.
hiya, yes it is on a cd and just installs on my pc as a exe file. The pdb file is a palm database file that i have got hold of.
So, in essence, can i download install a standard run of the mill exe file on me pda and if so how do i got about it. Hope that's a bit clearer.

Are you trying to run Palm Programs on your Universal. If yes, then search for StyleTap, a PPC application that allows you to run Palm Programs. I use it to run SuperMemo.
Here, try this site: http://www.styletap.com/

Have you got SP2 installed?
I cant, I dont have a genuine Windows.
Do you NEED SP2? Surely there is a way around this...
I can download activesync 3.8 but I think I need the drivers for the phone?
Any help... PLEASE!?!
I've had the same problem with my XP version
impossible also to install an update from windows site
I had to install an update on my windows 2000, that worked
and then activesync 4.1 finally worked 100%
other way to work around that was to download things on XP
put them on my old SPV E200 with activesync 3.7 wich works
and then send the things on my SPV M3000 by bluetooth...

Or get a Legit copy of Windows XP!!!
You run a pirate operating system then compalin when software doesn't work with it properly.
Come back when you have a license. Is your Wizard stolen as well?
hmmm dude...
the post isnt if its right or wrong to steal windows! Its to do with how we can cheat them more!
I think the only way round this is to download a crack to get xp2.
If I could find the drivers for the phone would it work on activesync 3.8?
PS. No my phone is not stolen, Im sure you have a copied CD in your collection somewhere too.
There's a vast number of copied XP versions with SP2 pre-installed available out there. Should be all you need.
I can get a legal copy of windows xp from somewhere...
But to install it would I loose all of my documents?
chrisredmayne: it would be in your interest to backup your docs (and whole system) before installing SP2, even if your windows is legit. It's a big install!
You could make your own SP2 install disk, by "slipstreaming" SP2 into a windows install disk. Also, there are cracks for SP2, and there are also cracks for trial versions of windows.
I imagine the ActiveSync install could probably be cracked to skip the SP2 check, but it's not a long term solution.
I don't recommend any of this. When you start using SP2 and Windows in the future, you'll have to have a legitimate copy to download certain updates from Microsoft, so you might as well get hold of a legit windows, one way or the other. OEM copies are stupidly cheap, and you can even buy an OEM Media Center install for a small amount of money.

there is a piece of software at
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2 called "card export II"
allows you to make the wizard look like a mass storage device, so activesync is not needed to transfer to the storage card.
ps (takes a few goes to install)
I dont get how to install it, only looked at it for a minute though. I unpacked all of the files, and it asks to open a prc file? and press hotsync on the cradle... (Guess that means phone).... Stumped
if i remember correctly .prc files are for palm user's not pocket pc.
i think you have downloaded the wrong version!
Use cardreader to download into mSD, anything you want:
Music, apps, but you need cab files to install it from mSD card.

aliendad, can you confirm you actually have Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC working on a wizard device? I have tried this on my k-jam and it didnt work at all. Even when i contacted Softick support they have said they are still working on a WM5 / Wizard compatible version.
EDIT: i just went and downloaded v2.10 of CE2PPC (which funnily enough isnt even mentioned on the website). In the setup i downloaded, i found there is a WM5 ARM install cab however this still fails to install on my Wizard / K-JAM as with all the previous versions.
Thanks
Chris
You need a minimum of SP1. You do not need SP2. For ActiveSync 4.1. If you cannot pass the genuine validation tool you need to enable automatic updates and to install them automatically. You cannot use the Windows Update site. If you set to install Critical Updates automatically it should bring down SP2 (as it is considered a Critical Update)
Also you can just download SP2 (the full install) and you should be able to install it. It should not require validation as you can install it if not connected to the network.
Although the above may not work if you truly have a messed up version of XP. I am assuming you have either a cracked version of a legit copy or an invalid product code.
I have read about people cracking XP Media Center 2005 and all worked well until the Genuine Validation tool. Then somebody came out with a crack for that.
Good Luck
I just got a disk with XP so I think its a fake validation code that I have.
I downloaded the SP2 from the windows update site, and from a random site somewhere that I searched on google for.
The problem was that when I tried to install it stopped after a few minutes and said that it wasnt a genuine windows. So Im guessing any version that I download will have the same check on it.
But I shall try and turn my updates on later and see if it works, or give that other program a go!

yes, is does work, had to do a lot of soft reseting but now have a quick access icon at the bottom of the screen to select card export or active sync.
a few days ago did a hard reset, and installed card export as one of the first installs and it installed much more smoothly that the earlier install.
ps great prog makes things much easier, can't install activesync at work.
I have installed this on my xda2i previously with no problem, however when I try to install it on to my exec it gets as far as connectin with the device and I get "Microsoft has encountered a problem and will now close" etc..
I can install other programs without any problem.
I get the same if I use my laptop or main computer, both running on xp sp2.
Any ideas?
hmm..
Everyone stumped?
Your problem description makes no sense.
Be more specific, or install from the CAB file directly on the device.
Actually it does make sense.
Whne I try to install as per the instructions I get an error prior to getting to the point where I can choose where to install the files.
TomTom have a fix for this if it happens whilst installing maps but I don't get that far.
There are several cab files on the dvd, which ones need to be installed?
TomTom doesn't come on DVDs. You are using an illegal copy. Sorry, cannot help with that.
This is what you need to do.
Don't install using disc etc.
Explore the media (CD or DVD) Tomtom came on find and copy these folders and their contents to your SD card:
2577
Great-Britain-Map (assuming that's the favoured map)
TOMTOM
VOICES
With the SD card in your Universal find the 2577 folder and run the CAB files in that folder.

Dear Reader,
I have downloaded a PDF software from the followin site for my XDA IIi,
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readerforppc.html
but it says 'AdbeRdr20_ppc_enu' is not a valid Pocket PC application. Kindly help me out. I need this software in my PC.
Thanks & Regards,
That's the installer .exe - you have to ActiveSync your PPC and run the .exe on your desktop PC.
Need your help
Now let me know what do i have to do if I need PDF software in Mobile?
Thanks & Regards,
Well, maybe I was too short in my first answer (or am _I_ getting *you* wrong?) ... anyway:
the thing that you downloaded from Adobe in fact _is_ the reader software for PocetPCs - _but_ it's not an exe, you simply copy onto your device (or maybe you downloaded it directly onto the PPC?), and it would run there.
Shure, it's an .exe file - but not for PPC. It's one for Windows, to be run on your desktop computer - as an installer for the PPC.
So, if you don't have it already on your workstation, move it there;
connect your XDA with ActiveSync to your desktop machine;
start the downloaded .exe on your desktop;
let the upcoming install shield lead you through some dialogs;
then that program will do the installation of Acrobat Reader 2.0 for PPC onto your XDA;
if the XDA asks you something, answer accordingly;
done.
It also installs some converter into ActiveSync, that tries to optimize transferred .pdf files for display on mobile devices (well, I switched it off ...).
But beware: as good as the Reader for PPC is (at least imho), it needs a lot of space (some 8MB).
Let me know, if I understood you completely wrong.
Greetings.
Thank You it's working now
Hi Dear,
Thank you very much it's working now in my mobile.
Thanks & Regards,
Firstly hello i,m new here and have just purchased a, htc tytn and i love it but i,m sort of new to ppc .

Mmmmm. We could end up in some bother if we guide you through setting up copied versions of commercial software!
So just in general terms CDs normally have a file called "setup" or "install" (or other similar .EXE file) that you run on the PC. If the application is one that will end up on a PPC device then you would have that connected via usb to your computer. Typically running the install file will then open options to setup the program on your device.
In some cases on the CD you might find a .CAB file. This you would use Active Syncs "Explorer" button to navigate to your PPCs storage card and move the CAB file across. Then on your PPC you would navigate to the CAB file and tap on it to install.
Regarding where to put Map files. My tomtom folder is on my storage card root directory. That is therefore where I put the map file. (NOT in the tomtom folder but on the root directory of the storage card. Map files for tomtom typically have names like GB_Plus_major_Roads_...... Do not rename it or else tomtom won't find it.
Mike
Hiya mike i gave it up as i thought the files could be corrupt or maybe dwnloaded from somewhere and did,nt want to ruin my phone with corrupt files .
I,m sure i,ll be seeking your or other members help in the future as i,m kinda new to ppc file transfers and what you can do with this grt phone .
Once again thanx for your input
hi everyone...I have a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX N100 that runs on wm5.I wonder if somebody knows a way to get it into service mode because I want to replace the GPS software that comes with the unit, not only because the maps are way out of date, but because the don't have a map for my country. I would like to install iGo because I have it on another GPS and I love it...
Thanks in advance...
Loox N100 does not run WM 5.1 but WinCE 5.0
To access the device you need to enable ActiveSync und the device.
I join two CAB files in order to enable or disable ActiveSync.
Just rename the file you need to MN6-update.cab and put in root of miniSD card (save original one first) and reset device.
After that you can access the device via ActiveSync and install whichever software you like.
If you want to enable ActiveSync and start on a clean desktop you should use the CAB file attached.
In there you have
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
"Launch50"="explorer.exe"

first of all I want to thank you Sabo, I'm really looking forward to get back from my trip and test those cabs...
but first let me see if I got it wright:
1.the loox_n100_enable...zip are the files to enable/disable the activesync, but would I have access to the WM menus??I ask this because the N100 starts in a kiosk mode
2.the MN6_update.cab - is going to start the N100 in explorer mode not kiosk??
I have a Loox n110 running TT6 and I got all my hacking info from here . It's a very long thread going back 3 years but it has everything you need to know. I installed the iLooks desktop starting off with the Active Sync cab trick as mentioned to access WinCe.
Hope you find it useful.
hi..thank you very much guys for all the help...until now I wanted to sell the n100 but now I'm again very happyyyy, I can barelly wait to start experimenting...
Forgot to mention that with a Mini SD to Micro SD adapter I can run a 16gb memory card on it so you can really load it up - no wifi though.

Don't sell this fine piece of hardware.
Where els do you find a PND with removable battery which is this small and where you can disable static navigation in order to use it easily for geocaching or other things.

My mistake sorry although the system recognises the capacity of the 16gb card when I actually browse the folders not all files are showing. I forgot this as I don't use this card usually in the Loox.
It does recognise all files on my 8gb microSDHC card, however. My built in driver is "SDHC_SC2410.dll". I haven't installed any other drivers myself.
Mine is the Loox n110 with the built in flash drive of 2gb using driver "FLASHDRV.dll". Not that it would affect the reading of the SDHC memory.
Hope that answers your question.
Hello all, I know it is a very very old topic !
But I found in my father's place this old Loox N100 piece of tech and I was trying to do some stuff with it.
I managed to access Windows CE 5 thanks to those CAB file provided about this topic.
But then I can't install or modify anything.
Can someone help me to update the maps of the GPS or install a more recent one please?
I have been searching for hours on internet but I can't find how to do. I don't understand the use of ActiveSync neither. My PC is running on Windows 11.
I tried to copy some exe or cab file to the Mini SD card, but when I want to install them from the device, I have an error "xxx is not a valid windows CE setup file"
Anybody could help me achieve something with this old tech?
Thanks a lot and sorry for the old post.
BTW: Since I used the CAB file above, I always boot on Windows CE first and also the USB connection to the PC doesn't open the SD Card anymore. I tried to use the "disable activesync" CAB file above, but it continues to boot on Windows CE and USB connection still not work.
Anyone with knowledge of this old tech can help me figure out a few things ?
At least how to revert it back to normal haha
Thanks
