HTC Tytn minus UMTS/3G, minus front camera, 17mm tick: Welcome HTC Herald. Polish PDA Club has a review with nice photos, for a warmup. Enjoy.

It looks nice but has that idiotic usb/audio combine connector on the bottom.
Dopod will launch it as C800 is asia

It really sounds like the just-announced Cingular 8525 which everybody consider as a modified TyTn: front camera is gone... are we sure it isn't the 8525?
PS: http://laptopmag.com/Review/Cingular-8525.htm
no its not, we have the Cingular 8525 in Singapore n its Dopod 838pro whereas the HTC Herald is Dopod C800
Note, that TyTN's (and 8525) keyboard slides out from the left, but Herald's from the right.
HTC will introduce it as the P4350, according to Mobile Review.
Looks like it's got a 200mhz processor...so is it going to be slower than the Tytn?
It is spring hinge not the old normal lousy hinge

Its got a similar processor to the Prophet. Even though the Prophet has a slower processor than the Magician, it runs much faster. I own both and speak from personal knowledge.
The TyTn and the Herald are completely different under the hood(or bonnet depending on your side of the pond). Slower processor does not equate to slower performance. Taking into account everything the TyTn is running, this may be a case of a Mustang(TyTn) vs. a crotch rocket(Herald).
Could someone move this Forum from "Upcoming" ? I DO have it in my hand right now ;-)

It was evident from very early on that the K-Jam was under powered. I would assume that this upgrade is sufficiently powerful to not be affected by the same flaws.
Anyone out there placed to give a comparison? Does the TyTn hang? Need for Soft Reset or Hard Reset? Anyone tried TomTom? Anyone tried doing 3 things at once with it? How much better is it? Did any of you actually experience the problems with the K-Jam I did? How does the speed compare to the JasJar? I am umming and ahhing over the TyTn and P990i, a tough choice ahead.
Please make any other points you feel relevant.
Many thanks
I have a wizard. The tytn looks nice, I would buy it in a snap over the 990 if I didn't have a wizard.
Reasons I'm not getting it:
1) my keyboard is nicer on the wizard
2) I have 7GB of MiniSD (TyTn is microsd)
3) Tytn has one speaker on the back instead of 2 stereo on the sides
Heres a little photo comparison review of the Tytn and Wizard (Dopod 838)

Thanks for that.
Please have a look at the benchamark results for the TyTn against some other devices.
The Dopod 838 Pro is the TyTn

Price, I got my Wizard (Cingular 8125) for 400 dollars, vs. paying 800 for a TyTN....
Clearly I'd say the best device is the Universal, nevertheless being a proud owner of a TyTN, considering all features and form-factor I'd say this is the device to get. Of course if you don't mind the size the Universal is clearly superior, the comparison between TyTN and Wizard is more likely to give you second thougths. Much faster, equally good battery and UMTS are in favor of the TyTN. The price is clearly on Wizard's side, but since you can find the TyTN for 690 Euros here in Portugal I would definitely recommend it.
Although the Universal may be the best overall device, as it does not have US UMTS/HSDPA frequencies, it's really a non-issue here... Go with the TyTN.
Features Comparison of Trinity with HTC P3300 and HTC TyTN :http://www.mypocketpcmobile.com/HTCP3300HTCP3600HTCTyTNFeatures/tabid/151/Default.aspx
so in terms of performance wise, reliability n all which device wld u pick? i am personally looking at either the p3300 or p3600
Dopod 838 Pro (Hermes) or Dopod D810 / HTC P3600 (Trinity)
Which should buy?
Beside the QWERTY that Hermes has, what are the difference?
definitely Trinity, the 838pro doesnt really interest me at all, good sound quality thats all other then that still the Trinity coz been a Magician user for quite some time already and really like to get a replacement similar to that of my current device so will definitely sway towards the Trinity
just my 2 cents.
Trinity comes with AKU 3.01 meaning better BT stack and WPA2 suport.
Having said that, Trinity feels much snappier in terms of device speed. I do not know if that hardware or software related issue.
Your signature shows a lot of experience with the devices! Is trinity really the capo of them all?
@victoradjei
ok. kind of difficult to judge when you have all of them at the same time
Hermes - a bit ... thick.. for my taste and slooow in comparison with Trinity.
Trinity has _very_ consumer look. IPODesque...
Artemis - I hate Rollr
star trek - nice phone, clam shell form factor is not for me though. My wife loves it
Breeze - just another phone. nice feature set ....
Oxygen - stable, great battery life, very nice entry level Smartphone. We love it.
Excalibur - ladies and gentlemen, we have winner here
I have to say : I absolutely love it.
I think the HTC Tytn is the best device.
Hermes 200 has _VERY BAD_ d-pad.( HTC TyTN)
you phone seems to be Hermes 100. Yes, it is very good.

What a phone !
Glad that I have not bought TyTn yet I will wait this phone for sure !
Amazing resolution at last !
for me the true killer of the TyTn is the HTC and the scarce quality that it uses for producing his ppcs...
HTC=scarce quality High costs
Too many unknowns about that one at the moment.
Could be a good one, the design looks a bit of a dogs breakfast though.
Size?
Mike
If it's Quad band and supports US 3G then it's a TyTn killer otherwise for us in the USA it won't be
PPC??
As far as I know it will not run with WM5 nor WM6. Screenshots suggest a total different OS. Go with it - but it will not replace my TyTN
It's not quad band and the GUI is flash.
Cool phone but lousy plaform and no north-american love.
The WM6 version of the LG Prada will end up more useful even if it is just EDGE.
It is running WM6 !
Check this side-by-side with TyTn:

The E01 is far more lower end, but still manages HSDPA, a 65k color display, A2DP Bluetooth, and that same 2 megapixel camera. ...

No way is this a TyTN killer, the only way to kill off the hermes is for the major networks to start using this, but they have it WAAAAAAY to easy with HTC at the moment. I can see it doing well but it has alot of catching up to do (especially with the major developments we have made on here with WM6, SSPL and HardSPL etc....)
The thing that puts me off that is the big border around the screen! I really think the TyTN looks smarter (I'm going entirely on looks here).
My Orange SPV M3100 (which is a HERM100 with silver/black colour scheme) is still the sexiest-looking phone I've ever seen.
You lucky bastard, I got the horrible T-Mobile Vario II - Never seen a phone being branded so ugly...

IMO, the Glofiish M900 is the true Tytn killer because it will have everything the X800 has plus a keyboard.
and Samsung F700 kills them all

How can you be a TYTN killer and not have a 5 way D-Pad? The only thing you can improve on the TYTN is put iTunes on it, maybe make it slimmer, and if it can do my taxes, hahahah.
But really, with this XDA community, I am sure we will have the latest and greatest for while to come. You can increase magapixels all you want, but this is still a slick device.
Hi!
First off, im a daily visitor and fan of the site. Fantastic forum for us techies.
Now to what i need from you.
I recently dropped my Universal from my balcony (5 meters), it fell for a fairly sudden death you could say.
Being a reseller of brightpoint i thought, ok, no problem i will wait for the HTC TYTN II instead being a better device.
However, i really miss the VGA feature browsing webpages and using vnc ( i use it alot). Keyboard aswell way to small compared to universal.
Would you say Athena is a better choise than Tytn II? Cannot believe why tytn II didnt come in vga.. Heard that glofish m800 will be the same factor but vga support.
What i need. Speedy device with VGA! Is the Athena CPU faster than TYTN II?
Both units have GPS right. so no problems there.
Your thoughts are highly appreciated. The athena just dropped in price..
Best regards,
Daniel Eriksson
Yes, the CPU of the Athena is faster than the one on Kaiser.
Keep in mind that the Athena occupies the same space as approx. two and a half Kaisers if you're planning on keeping it in your pocket.
However, I love the Athena and I'm (almost) never leaving home without it. But the Kaiser is great too, and smaller. Why not get both?

I've had a HTC Wizard (unlocked) for almost 3 years. It's been a solid, dependable unit. Thanks to this board, I have it re-flashed to WM6, and it works nice.
I have been thinking of "upgrading" to a faster phone.. the Wizard's CPU is 200MHz... the Hermes is 400Mhz, right?
Is the Hermes basically the "same" phone as the Wizard, with just a faster CPU? Or is the Hermes "more different" than just the CPU? Does the Hermes have speakers like the Wizard, so it can be set on the table and used as a speakerphone, or so you can listen to music without headphones?
And I've read something on these boards about a HTC 8925 Tilt/Kaiser? If I upgrade, should I go to a Hermes or a Tilt/Kaiser?
Thanks in advance,
Keith

I'd certainly go for the Kaiser. Quite a few issues were ironed out and sorted with the Kaiser / Tilt.
Mike
Performance-wise, I never noticed a difference when I upgraded from Wizard to Hermes - the faster processor had seemingly no effect.
The only differences between the two models are the 3g/hsdpa, and the scroll wheel is a slight improvement on the slide switch.
If I was looking to buy a new handset now I would discount the Hermes because of its lack of ram. Far better to get a Kaiser or better. Personally now I would be looking for a better resolution screen, as vga is now common and better supported.

Hi there... I finally picked a replacement phone -- after lots of research, and waiting for a good deal, I got a used HTC Universal. It's an EXCELLENT device, more like a mini-netbook than a phone. Has a 500MHz Intel CPU in it, and plays 30fps movies at up to 1.15Mbps (Mpeg 1) with no problems. I am very happy with my upgrade.
