backlight on the front panel button - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all, this is related to the JASJAM, does anyone know any tricks to disable the backlight on the Call/End button located on the front panel just below the screen? I'm sure these button uses a seperate backlight from the screen so it should be possible to disable them.
For some reason the backlight on these buttons are always on when the screen is on, it is annoying when watching videos and wasting power. Any ideas will be appreciated.

help...backlight button did not work

I just bought O2 xda exec few days ago. But I found the backlight button doen't working. And i go to change a new one already. But it is the same. Also don't working. Is it the OS problem or hardware problem.
What exactly is it doing? On my Jasjar the backlight button will only turn on the backlight if it's off because of the timeout. It won't turn the backlight off, nor will it turn on the backlight if you toggled it by holding down the power button. It doesn't work the way I would expect, but apparently this is the way it was designed to work.

Yes, my backlight button only turns on the light for the screen, not the keyboard, what you would expect it to do both.
Does the keypad backlight on this thing actually work? I can't turn mine on whatsoever!!!
I don't want to return this phone back to O2, when none of them will work in the end.
The backlight button does work, but it works in so few situations that it's pretty much useless and a waste of a button.
key pad only lights up after you press a key if its dark enough
if you cover the light sensitive port above the xda exec script above the lft side of keypad then it will come on whenever you strike keyboard though i think screen backlight has to be on
some people are covering port with a small piece of black tape to set keyboard backlight on pernamently though im not sure what it does to battery life
just checked and screen backlight has to be on
I have set my keyboard lights to come on whenever you press a key. Much nicer

Backlight Button Faulty?

Hi,
Since i bought my Universal as the xda exec ive had two problems.
1. The touch screen stopped working keyboard worked fine. This was solved after a rom upgrade.
2. The backlight button does nothing
Isbnt the backlight button suppose to turn backlight of? if so why doesnt mine?
dunno about q1 but as for q2, the backlight key only turns on the backlight whe n the screen times out. Astonishly useless by design! You can remap it to use it like any other hardware button tho (with a bit of registry tinkering). Search this forum for how to.
There are 2 type of backlight:
(1) the screen
(2) the keyboard
the backlight of the screen you can turn on and of via the on/off button at the left side with which you turn on/off the device. For turning on and off the backlight without turning on/off the device you must press and hold the button.
the backlight button at the front is only for the keyboard. But this only works, when you set in the settings, that it should not use the light sensor to regulate the light.
thanks guys, your help is very much appreciated.
I found this a bit strange.
On my Qtek 9000, the backlight button (on device side) does nothing (even if light sensor not used).
The one which does this, is the 'SYM' key on keyboard... :?:
Ok, now I try it out. I was wrong: the light button at the side does absolutely nothing
so for what is that? how can I put a function on it?
lol, this is totaly true, on my o2 exec i thought i try it by disabling the sensor and it didnt do nothing. Whats it for?
Maybe it will have a function in a newer rom?
Hi,
You can change the function of this useless backlight key. You can make it to launch any application you want. Just follow the instructions on the first post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34377&highlight=backlight
Enjoy!

simple display on/off question

Hi!
- Does the Universal turn on automatically when the display flip is opened or does the user have to press the Power button first?
- What exactly does the Backlight button do?
I need to know this because I'm investigating a possible wiring damage ...
Thanks!

Depends...
The Universal knows two different states. When you close the display while the device is on, and then open the diplay again the screen will come on.
If however you first press the power button to send the device into standby, and then close and open the display, the screen will not come on, the device will remain in standby.
The backlight button is useless, use the hack to re-assign it to a function of your choice.
Thanks!
That helped a lot!! 8)
