Hi
I just started a Thread in Development and Hacking that should be interesting for all Tytn/ Hermes users:

Updated Version Ready For Download
Hi
I now have a working Prototyp. - you only control the app with the wheel.
Short Wheel Press - Select Letter - or Back
Long Wheel Press (1 sec) - Forward
Still not finished but I need Feedback on the Usability Idea - Pls try it.
Compact Framework 2.0 needs to be installed!
BR
Daniel
Hi
I have a little Update - thanx for the feedback.
BR
Daniel
Could you please code this in another language?
DanielS, these devices don't have enough memory to spare, so I believe a lot of people stopped installing CF based proggies due to the space taken by CF itself.
Could you please convert to regular code that does not need a base like CF?
Victor
Hi
My C++ is no good - and it would take like 10 times the effort. This is currently a usability Study and a Tool for myself and everybody who likes to use it
Anyway later it can be converted to CF 1.0 which is installed anyway on the Devices - for now CF2.0 was the fastest way to get it going (new api's and stuff)
BR
Daniel
Will definitely be a great app .. for people like me who like to use everything one handed .. and really miss a dialer that can be used single handedly ..
Hi
did you download and give it a try?
BR
Daniel
Can someone post screenshots...
I am having some trouble to imagine what the prog exactly does. I mean I can read but would be nice to have a visual
Hi
I post 2 Screenshots - still very experimental looks
But the Screenshots are only part of the story - the Coolness of the Application is that you have a LARGE font dialer that can be controlled with the wheel.
1) Short click on the Wheel - selects a Letter or Moves back in the name and number lists
2) long click moves you forward in the process (1sec)
3) up and down to navigate
I have it on one of the application Buttons - so it starts as my default dialer
Screen 1: Scrolling through the Characterlist you build the name (the list is filtered for things you really have in your Contacts)
Screen 2: you have Names and their numbers and can initated a Call.
BR
Daniel
Nice app, I added it to the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Utils
Feel free to edit and add more information if you want
@DanielS: That's definitely cool .. moving between all your contacts one-handedly ..
How about doing the same for the dialer? I would love to press all the digits one-handedly using the wheel ..
Hi
Thanx for your feedback
What would you like to do? - Dial a Number? that should be easy to add!
BR
Daniel
DanielS: Is there any particular reason why you use the 2.0 version of the framework?
If you use version 1.0 your users don't need to install anything extras as it's already included in the OS.
Hi
Yes - speed of Development. and the new Namespaces that make live easy...
Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook
Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Telephony
+ Generics and SortedList
This App is like a showcase for the new stuff implemented...
So to Port it to CF 1.0 will be a lot of work and it will be a lot less stable - so a Port to 1.0 will likely not happen.
BR
Daniel
DanielS!
Thanx I shall try to find some time to test this baby Although i wish it did not require the CF 2.0
FYI- CF2 can be installed to your card.
Btw- check out Contact Breeze, this works very well

You'll find these namespaces in CF 1.0 too, as they are a part of WM5.

Basically, use the wheel up/down to move between different digits on the dialer and wheel press to select a button ... that way I can dial any # one-handedly .. not just from within contacts .. havent seen any app yet which does that ..
Hi

DanielS, It compliments for the useful program.
In the next version it will be possible to select the color of the background and the dimension and bold of the fonts?
Thanks

Attached is an early alpha version of D9, a replacement for the built-in dialler. The main features are:
* Predictive text contact lookup
* Fast
* Big (thumb-friendly) buttons
* Free
Source code, a website and various other bits and pieces will be arriving in due course. In the meantime, however, please do feel free to try it out and give it a go.
I'm looking for feedback, so please let me know what you think!
I think it's a very good start. The application, as you said, takes 2-3 seconds to start the first time, but it's not a big problem. It is very quick for finding contacts. Buttons are big enough and the use of vibra very useful.
Here is some features that could be useful in my point of view:
- Possibility to have contacts sorted by the Outlook field 'View as' (or 'Save as' or 'Fill as'. Don't know what MS translated into 'Classer sous').
- Or if not possible, sorting (finding) contacts by company, name and firstname.
- Clear the previous search automatically when the application comes to the foreground.
- Option to switch to internal dialer once the contact has been dialed.
- Highlight the found string in the contact name (this is nice to have more than really useful).
Hope it helps. I look forward to next version.
Thanks for the great suggestions. I'll see what I can do!
Hi Mike,
I was looking for something with a big "exit" button like this one, so I did a try to it.
Unfortunely my XDA II gives me an error every time I tap the screen when the program and library was installed on SD card.
When installed on main memory it was fine making calls but when I got an incoming call the built-in dialler was the one coming up to the screen.
The main problem for me is that I don't want to play with the penn while driving after I got a call to close the dialler screen and I need it closed to see the TomTom Navigator.
Mostly of you drive a car, I do a motorbike, so it's not very funny to try to hit the small "X" with a small penn and big gloves.
I will look for a new version.

I will do tomorrow as I need to install it again on the SD card, but I think you don't need worry too much about it. It's typical to get some errors, like libraries (dll, ocx...) are not installed when it's done on SD cards.
But the main problem for me still remains, to get the incoming calls through your program. Currently is the buil-in the one comes up.
See you tomorrow,
Jose
Hi Mike
I did install again your program on the SD card and this is the error I get as far I tap the screen:
I suppose you don't understand Spanish so I'll do a translation:
"Unexpected error in D9.exe. Tap Salir (Exit) and reinitialize the program or tap Detalles (Details) to get more information".
If you tap Details then a new similar screen comes up and says:
"D9.exe
TypeLoadException"
As I said in my former message, all this doesn't happen if the program is installed in the Default folder.
Hope it helps.
Jose Adell
Hi Mike,
installed your program with no problems at all.
I have a Qtek 2020 with 1.72 WWE installed.
Works OK and finds the contacts correctly, by first or by last name.
It is a simple, thus easy to use and load program.
The only thing to point out is that I would prefer a slightly larger font on the number and name display, making it more 'readable' when on the move, e.g. car, where I will be more likelly to use it.
regards,
george
Hi Mike,
I have been waiting for an update to your great program. Is it possible that it could be mapped to the Send/End keys? Maybe you and Maimaich could get together on this?
I also agree with the previous posts to enlarge the contact name font. And I miss the speed dial option from your previous version (which does work on WM2003). Keep up the good work.
Feature wanted
It would be nice if I could navigate the buttons on the screen using the D-pad. With this, I can then write sms without the need to press on the screen and leave my messy fingerprints on it.

Thank you for your job. It looks much better on my MDA Compact. I even think about using it in replacement of the built-in dialer would it dial DTMF tones in the line. This is the worst thing that stops me from using it :-(
As minor features I'd like to see more large and contrast phone number, no vibra but sound when touching screen buttons, ability to map this program to the MDA's buttons on-hook and off-hook. Also I guess this is not a good idea to press "Clear" to start the new history for the phone number.
Sorry for the mostly negative commens - I wish the program become a real replacement for the standard dialer.
Yes great app, but the lack of tones doesn't make it easy to manage the message box on the Orange answering machine.
international characters
i'm going to try this new version. i have done simple app for previous version of D9 that converts all international chars (codepage cp1250) to ascii and change order of firstname and lastname to lastname firstname. there is source code avalable so i can add this feature if not avail and i'll share it. i like so much previous version and i'll see this one tomorrow. i'm looking forward.
very nice tool ! I use it all the time now ! keep up the good work
Glad you like it!
I've made a webpage for D9, and also have posted up a version of the source code (it's actually slightly newer than the current binary, so think of it as a work in progress). The site can be found here:
http://www.pocketgamer.org/d9/
You can download the source code directly from here:
http://www.pocketgamer.org/d9/source.zip
Please feel free to use / adapt / improve the code as you wish! Note that I've used two external components, Poom .NET (for contacts operations) and OpenNET CF (dialling, vibrate functionality).
Any thoughts on adding the tones for voice mail operation ?
I'd love to! Does anyone know of any example code for generating the tones...?
The tones are called DTMF-tones:
A list with the frequencies can be found here:
http://www.zytrax.com/tech/telephony/dtmf_tones.htm
Made a new skin for D9 dialer
I Just made 1 skin for D9 dialer, in 2 variations, (look at dial and clear buttons).
Unzip to D9 directory, overwrite - yes.
hey cool app but how do i use the hax one on the right with the SMS,
ive been after a SMS app that did full screen vertical typing for a while.
will this one do it ?
Hi Everbody,
I am Shailesh Ashar and this is the first time I am getting my hands dirty with Windows Mobile development.
So here is a little app that I developed : Group SMS Solution.
As the name suggest it is basically a program to send smses to a group of people at the same time.
Foll. are the features:
1. Category Wise Contact Pickup
2. Individual Contact Pickup made easy
3. works with WM5 and WM6.
4. Seems to be moderately paced as it is written using managed code but does the job well.
5. It is free.
PREREQUISITES:
.NET Compact framework 2
download here :

DISCLAIMER:
This program is written using managed code so it technically cannot harm your windows mobile device but anyways do not blame me for anything.

Hi Shailesh,
This is certainly a very nice and extremely useful app for WM devices.
I've tested it briefly on my WM5 Herald and it works great. I do have a few minor bug reports and feature suggestions for your next version:
1. When contacts belong to multiple custom groups, it lists the same group twice with a space before the group name. So if some contacts are in the group called Ping and others are in the group called Pong and yet others are in both groups, it will list "Ping", "Pong" and " Ping" and " Pong"
2. Could you possibly add a context menu for the text editor where you do Cut/Copy/Paste rather than the Paste from Clipboard button?
3. In the final screen, if you press Back, it takes you right back to the first text entry screen rather than just one screen back.
Will test and give you any further inputs soon.
Thank you for the excellent app that you've given to the community for free!

Maybe someone could find this interesting...
While I find cumbersome to find out the (for instance) IP addresses assigned to the device, or frustrating when Internet Explorer cannot find any web page because the current connection is the WRONG one...
... I ended up writing my own Today Screen plugin to display more information on the active connection. Yeah, I know this is not quite a "common" requirement, but maybe someone finds it useful... or even can suggest further improvements - that will be of course welcome!
I've attached some screenshots of it running on both a WM5 emulator and my real Hermes running WM6 - thanks Schap!
Please, feel free to use it, redistribute it, add to a ROM kitchen, or cook it into any ROM...
Updated August, 13th...
More changes with the 1.3 version. Now localization has been added. I'm currently shipping this version with English (native) and Spanish languages. I've also added a ZIP file with a little document where you can find instructions to localize/translate ConnState to your preferred language and a template localization file for English.
Hasta la vista!!!!
Version History:
V1.0
First version released.
V1.1
VGA screen support added (enough to make it usable)
V1.2
Completed VGA screen support.
Added expand/collapse button - per popular request
V1.3
Localization support. ConnState currently ships in English and Spanish languages.
Thanks!!! Good work.
Thanks, PPCNUT... now let's see if someone likes it!!

Of course... in fact, why didn't I think about that in first place? :$ I was thinking about leaving the plugin "collapsed" (the size of "no connection") and add a right-hand minibutton that expands the thing up to its size... And even allow tapping you on it to open another window with full details on the connection...
This weekend will be fun
Thanks alot for your comments!!!
This is actually very nice work and I would use it, once you were able to condense it into a smaller amount of space.

Nice one, @dpduser - that's staying on my Today screen!!!
As it's a today screen plugin, can you make the Options button in the today screen configuration give us access to the things we wanna see displayed in the plugin?? I'm thinking of having the MAC addresss displayed, but wouldn't necessarily want it all the time - same goes for the connection being used; if I'm at home, then I'm usually using Wi-Fi.....you catch my drift??

It would be nice to have localization support in 1.3 release.

Feedback & ongoing work
First, thanks to all of you that took the time to play with ConnState!!
For the "improvements" part, and as I have read from your feedback:
- Regarding an "Options" dialog to configure somewhat more "advanced" features, yes, I'm working on it - It just takes a little longer than expected because now I'm trying to do a more compatible component, that must support QVGA & VGA screens and has to do so both in portrait and landscape orientations (if you do it, do it right, isn't it? ) BTW... anyone out there with a SQUARE screen device?
- MAC addresses? Yeah, I guess it's feasible... I'll try to add both MAC & PAN addresses. Not obvious, somewhat tricky but absolutely feasible!
- Show proxy information: regarding this, I was amazed at how tricky it is to discover the current proxy configuration for a connection! In first place I have to deal with WM's Provisioning and do that in XML (so an XML parser has to be placed in!)
- Localization!! Of course YES!!! Now I have two options to do it: one could be to maintain a single .DLL with embedded resources in a variety of languages or I could build a number of different DLLs each one built for a language... Hmmmm... Currently deciding on it!! I can do both Spanish and English versions... What languages are required? Would you, nice people, help me localizing this?

I'm Vietnamese so that I like to see my mother language display on my PPC.
In addition, it'd be cool if I could translate the localization file by Notepad without creating a DLL file (just like Spb does).

A. You dont! - simply copy all files to a folder on the device and run the EXE - that's it - no install - no uninstall - nothing changed on the device - no registry entries required.
Q. What is the default unlock sequence
A. 1 single guesture - ^ (you can change this on config.xml)
Q. Can I change stuff?
A. Yes - everything! - the landscape.xml and portrait.xml contain all the positions for the icons and layouts for the skin, while config.xml contains details about non-skin related options
Q. What Compact Framework do I need?
A. You need either 2.0 or better still 3.5 - unfortunately some custom rom cookers have not fully incorporated CF into their build and this may cause you problems - not just with my app but anything that uses CF. My only suggestion here is to try an updated (or different) base rom! - it works perfect with all the WWE builds with CF installed - so I know it's the rom

Current Functionality of Highway theme:
Home tab is about 90% finished. There will be some modification in the future like: Tower when press to open comm manager or WiFi. When press signal meter it opens default comm window. When press sun it will open weather. When press clock will open alarm.
The contacts tab is currently empty but has been tested and will have a very smooth scrolling contact list.
The settings tab currently is only for program exit, future additions on this page.
The Big red power button is the Program launcher and is on all tabs. When you open the launcher just scroll and tap firmly in a straight up and down motion. To go back to the main screen gesture from right to left
Volume, still in development but to see how it works click on the speaker icon, then gesture up and down to change volume. Note Vibrate not functional yet. Gesture right to left to exit volume.
For email you may have to edit the Portrait.xml to define your email account. Mine is set to Hotmail. If you need help let me know.
Vmail indicator does not seem to be working. This is one reason for me to release this now as I need help testing on the I780. It seems to be working on other devices.
-----------------
Note: almost all the graphics except background and sun were created by hand, by me, and took a lot of time and effort. So if you use them please give some credit.

What can I say? I am speechless. This is a very nice theme, a refreshing change to the Diamond theme...
For future expansion, you can consider installing an ICU (in-car unit) that will call out the player (s2p, mortplayer, HTC AM, WMP, etc..)
Once this is completed, it will be an awesome theme!!
Keep up the good work.

New Monday Morning Theme for i900 Omnia
Updated on the first page for download. Thanks to Bluemetalaxe for this great theme. I just converted it and some graphics to fit on the Omnia. Remember this Program is still under development by Dazz and it is not fully functional yet. But enjoy and I will keep it upgraded as newer versions come out.

Small update fixed appointment lines in portrait. Moved clock, volume, and lock icon.

Excellent adaptation from a qvga to a wqvga. You kinda make me want 1 omnia....
Wow, looks very nice. Especially on the Omnia's widescreen, hopefully the developer will add more functions soon.

First you are using omnia i900 right? With the monday morning the correct? Is it the same in landscape? And is the calender and contact page ok?
Is there a QVGA version of "Monday Morning"?
Hello, thanks for good work on the subject of omnia, but also will you convert the other or do not have plans for that?

For your using pleasure.... Stocker, a finger friendly stock tracker.
Currently, you will be able to enter stocks and view the delayed trading price. Soon I will add stock history. This has been tested on my Diamond (vga), and works on the qvga emulator. Should be easy to use... Just press the right menu button. I will monitor this thread to answer questions.
And, btw... it is unsigned and required compact framework 3.5.
Update 8/31/08 to version 0.3.19.0909
- added scroll area indicator
- added stock change by percentage
- corrected qvga layout a bit
- added extended view including stock graph, volume, high, low, etc...
nice..thanks...been looking for a finger friendly stock ticker
Your welcome.
looks good... but I wish it was a Today Plugin like the Pocket StockCenter that I'm currently using.
Im using a diamond, so I dont use plugins on tf3d, but I'll add it to the list of stuff to do. Im working on an extended view (stock histroy, more info on the stock) when a stock is double-clicked, then next will be alerts. the possibilities are endless The extend view should be ready within a few days.
cool...I hope to have a Diamond someday!
The StockCenter mortscript is memory lite and very comprehensive...take a look: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=141737
Well, I have the downloading of stock data working... Im getting a graph to work at the moment.
Great work, looks good! Will be trying out soon on my Touch.

I know that pocket stockcenter and a few others use a free today "banner" that they just send info to..this might make it easy for you to "add" a today plugin by just sending info to the banner. Nice job!
ill take a look at it. still working on extended stock info screen. mostly working, but needs polishing.
Updated. See 1st post.
looking forward in giving this a try thanks
nice been lookin for one of these
Only the US Exchanges?
G'Day,
Firstly, thank you for creating this app and secondly, thanks for sharing! Just wondering whether it includes support for stocks traded on exchanges other than the Dow or Nasdaq? Specifically wondering about the Australian (ASX) and Canadian (TSX) exchanges?
Cheers!
Hi,
Nice work man... keep updating the software with new options... thanks a lot...
tried it on the HTC Touch Pro that I bought from Vodafone yesterday and it says: THE PROGRAM REQUIRES NEWER VERSION OF .NET FRAMEWORK ....
I thought since I have a new phone everything should be up to date in there ?
Nice app !
Two small things :
1) change the ugly button !
2) a small bug on my Diamond, when I try to go back from the detailed view to the stocks list with the small arrow, I reach an error : NullReferenceException at KLOControls.SListBox.GetListItemFromEvent(Control sender)...
Thank you so much!! finally a finger friendly stock ticker app.
please keep us updated!

Just installed and tried it, and it seems to be working with toronto stocks by adding .TO to the symbol.
So for example CAE inc stocks, you could add CAE.TO for the TSX stock.
Downloading now ... Thanks for the effort!!
