SPV M3100 cannot go thru WIFI - Networking

Hy everybody,
I finally got my tytn connected to my private wifi (linksys wag54g) but when I launch explorer either he tries to connect using my gprs connection or if i erase that connection it says "the page cannot be found.Check the name and try again".
How can I get explorer go to internet using my wifi...?
Tks, Andrea

Hi Andrea
Try your firewall settings. Try turning it off. Then connect. Then turn it on again and see if it holds the connection.
Regards
Danep

Tried everything, no way.
It gets connected to my wlan, but no chance to see any web page. I think I have to set something on explorer but I don't know what. Opera also doesn't work.

Connecting to internet through Active Sync

I am trying to configure my XDA2 to connect to my PC and surf the internet via a BT connection. I can Sync via BT but when I try to set up my connection it keeps asking for a phone number despite me saying it is over a Bluetooth connection and my IP is broadband. Sorry if this has been asked but I did search for any info on this.

Why do you need to setup connection for since it's already connected with ActiveSync via BT? Basically once you get connection between your device & activeSync, that's all the step you did. Unless a firewall has stopped your device from accessing to the internet; if it's the case, create exception for your activeSync, and retry browsing with your device.
hope this helps.
regards.
thanks for yor reply, Each time I try to connect the the interneet on my device it keeps trying to connect via GPRS and not through my PC via BT....
Go to ActiveSync, open the options menu & go to Rules tab.
At the bottom, you will find Pass Through Conenction, make sure its set to The Internet and not Work
Cheeeers 8)
thats it, it finally works. Thanks very much.
Glad to hear that, thomo
You're welcome anytime, dude
activesync through bt
go to setup in bluetooth and select the activesync in bt
pair the pda or ppc

in wm2005 select activesync through the bt
brouse internet
i did myself
I'm having a similar problem and have effected the setting as above, however IE on my IIs says "the page you are looking for cannot be found". My computer connects fine and I have the same issue when trying to connect the device via WiLan, although I do connect to the network.
I've been trying to fiddle with the settings for a few days now but no success...anyone out there got any ideas.
Many thanks
I have mastered it now, I sync using BT on my device, leave it connetced, close Active sync on my XDA 11, Click on IE and the device connects through my PC, super duper.........
Thanks, this is what i am looking for now. I will try it
i can now only online with cable, not through Bluetooth connection
go into the advantage settings for connections
there you should be able to change the network back to my isp insted
of my network
bluetooth-internet
Hai...iam new here..i have got O2mini and would like to connect to internet via bluetooth...
i try using usb cable and activesync program to serve internet and its working.
...i succesfully connect my pc and ppc via bluetooth by using ppc activesync but when try connet to internet its still go to gprs..
pls help me...TQ
like i said again and again in this thread it's all about which network is picked in advantage settings under network connections in systems
I also tried to make a connection to the internet with activesync and usb. But with my mda doesn't work. iexplorer says the page you are looking for cannot be found. But my ppc says "connectivity the internet Pc connection". What are the settings on your ppc, so i can check?
Somebody help me.
test with ping
and maybe messenger to see if it's a dns issue
and if people use pocketplus they prob should make sure that it's not set to close insted of minimizing otherwise the connection would most likely be closed when they close activesync
Thank you very much. You solved my problem.

WiFi and GPRS frustration

I have a belkin router. It works well with several laptops.
I can connect to it with my JASJAR and get an IP address.
If I sync pop3 email it uses WIFI and works as expected.
If I sync journal bar it uses WIFI and works as expected.
However if I try to use internet explorer it alway tries to start a GPRS session and refuses to work through WIFI. Why??
Ive sent hours trying every setting I can find.
Anyone have any suggestions? :?:
Jon
At least your Wifi network doesn't crash as soon as u connect the JJ. Mine doesn't even get that far...
Anyone who can help???
Hmmm I wonder if this is something in the Telstra settings Cab.
Re those having problems all on Telstra?
Might try a hard re set and then manually build the settings.
Jon
Try de activating the phone. this allows you to use IE via your wireless router.
Tried that, thanks.
I just get the "Cannot Connect" message and if I dismiss it. Nothing!
However I can sync the weather without getting the "Cannot Connect" box. SO the WiFi is working, its just that Explorer can see it.
Im running the O2 UK firmware and it works fine (auto gives prefernce to the WiFi if I am in range, try loading on the genuine Imate firmware.
Jon
I know how you feel. I can't get wifi to work. Heck, I can't even use IE when synced to the computer via USB
Have you tried messing with the settings in start/settings/connections/connections?
I finally got it working.
You have to chose the "Telstra Internet" setting in Network Managment.
Its in Settings, Connections, Advanced, Select Networks, select "Telstra Internet".
I then did, Settings, Connections, Manage existing connections, Modem, and set it to "Auto"
It uses the WiFi first and then only uses GPRS if there is no WiFi.
Hope this helps someone else !
Jon
Can anyone help me with just getting my JJ connected to the wifi network without crashing the router?
Have you tried turning off any encryption etc and re booting the router.
Then try to connect at the most basic level?
Now I'm totally confused
I don't know what is going on!
I have finally managed to use IE via Activesync, using "Telstra Internet" as my My network connects to...
I tried again to hook up to the wifi network. The router is connected to my desktop via a physical cable, and my tablet pC is connected wirelessly (my JJ syncs with the tablet). I turned to tablet off, and then connected the JJ to the desktop wirelessly. On the desktop, I am no longer able to connect to the internet, but for some reason, the JJ is able to connect to the internet
But, even if I disconnect the JJ from the network, my desktop is unable to connect back to the internet until I reboot the router. What does this all mean????
I have the same issue with my MDA Pro! i done even have the sutp option in the modem settings. I can connect to my belkin router with encryption but no response when in IE!
Anyone else got any other suggestions?
I'm beginning to think that nobody has a solution to such connection problems. Is there any hope on the horizon? Any chance of something being sorted out by MS?
BTW, how well does BT syncing/internet connection work?
Ok frustration rising.
I can connect to my Belkin wireless router with no problems but I can only log onto the router and not browse the internet!
I have checked that the proxy is not configured.
Anyone got any ideas?
Nope

can't connect to skype

I used to have it and running fine on my ppc but i uninstalled it because not many of my friends use skype. So now that there's free skype out calling i thought i'd give it a go. I reinstalled it, version 2.0.0.51, and when i attempt to connect it warns me "Skype needs an internet connection to function. Do you want skype to try to connect to the internet through a cellular connection? Warning: Your mobile service provider may charge for an Internet connection. Please contact your provider for pricing."
I click Yes then another warning comes up "Unable to connect to the Internet. Please chec your network settings." When i click No it just doesn't try to log in.
This happens when i'm connected through wifi and activeSync via USB. Any one know whats wrong?

try to launch pocket ie first and when you are already connected in GPRS/Edge then try to connect your skype. . . that works for me but i hope there's more easy step than that. . . without permanently connecting to the GPRS/Edge

Solution
Hi everyone,
I had the same problem. I've installed Skype, and used it once through GPRS/HSDPA. Then, I've used it through Wifi. It still worked, but the next time I tried to connect through GPRS/HSDPA I had the "Unable to connect to the internet" issue.
Here is what I did to fix it:
Connect the phone to the PC with ActiveSync and open the explorer. Make sure Skype is not running. Browse to the directory \Application Data and delete the Skype subdirectory. This folder contains your personal settings. Next, connect again to Wifi, and start Skype. You will now get the initial setup of Skype, and I can connect. (I could not connect without connecting to Wifi for some reason) Now, instead of logging out, I clicked on "Menu" and "Quit". After disabling Wifi, I restarted Skype and tried to connect. this time I again got the message if I wanted to connect through a cellular connection, but this time I could connect after clicking "Yes".
So this worked for me. I don't believe it is a permanent solution however. Let's wait for the next time the program c***s up.
Cheers,
Wim

ActiveSync and Internet Explorer

I've had a hunt thorugh the forums but can't find an answer on this one...
When I attach my SPV M600 to my PC via a USB cable and ActiveSynv kicks in all looks well - all my synchronisiation works like magic.
Unfortunately I cannot then use internet explorer on my PC - it can't connect to the internet.
I presume my PC thinks it should be using my phone to connect to the internet - is there a setting I've missed to sort this out ?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
It seems this is something to do with ActiveSync 4.1 using TCP/IP to connect.
My internet explorer seems to be using the new lan connection to attempt to reach the interent.
Anyone any idea how I stop it doing this ???
Turned out to be my Internet Explorer's connection settings.
I'm set up to use an automatic configuration script (on my PC at work) - if I change this to use a proxy server all works ok...

Only connects via gprs
