In your file explorer, under My PocketPC, click on 'Storage Card' that's the root level of the Card. Basically if you just drop files directly onto the card, without using any directories, the the file is in the cards root level.

Use Cabinst to manage your CAB installations.

regestry change
whit a simple regestry change , it will ask you where to install it: folder,drive....
even if you do an istallation from active sync
And what is this simple registry change ?
Do tell .... don't keep it a secret
what is this change?
ok here it is:
Edit the regestry on the PPC:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Aplication Installer\
set fAskDest to "1"
if you like
Create the "Pogram Files" folder on the SD card on the root folder,
make sure that you have the ignore_my_docs file in the root driveof the SD card.
I install most of my program on the SD card.
hi alexk,
i m using mini O2. how do go to the registry by the way?
and all the programs can run from the SD card?
Pls advise..
thanks..
Cheers
 Chivas
I use Resco Explorer to edit my registry,
it includes the Resco Registry Editor ^^
alexk > Thanks for this tweak
chivas > If you want a freeware use this one PHM Registry Editor
Most programs can be run from SD card except Today Plugins
What is the benefit of running CAB's from our SD card? In otherwords, I don't have the foggiest clue what happens to a CAB once you run it apart from it installing the program etc.
A cab file is a way to install a progam.
So you can install this program wherever you want.
The benefit to install it on a SD Card is to liberate some RAM
Thanks for that
Why is this forum sooooooo sloooooow

Hi Alex, thanks for the tweak. But what do you mean by those meantioned above ? Are you saying that we can create a "Program Files" folder in SD card and install our program into it? What do you mean by root folder? Do I need to create a note pad file named as ignore_my_docs?

Calvin,
Root folder refers to the highest folder of the drive, the one where all the sub-folders reside... ie on your PC C:\
Be very carefull editing the registry, not recomended for a novice as one wrong move can leave you with a lot of trouble
Thanks for the info. I think there's nothing to do with registry in these tweak rite? For what I know from others forumer, the Ignore_my_documents file is inside the main memory. It serves the purpose whereby the ppc will ignore the "My Documents" inside the Sd card (if you created one) and only use the "My Documents" inside the main memory.
Same said they have deleted the Ignore_my_documents file in the main memory and therefore they can saved their files (themes and etc) into "My Documents" inside the Sd card in order to save some RAM.
My question is, do we need to create Ignore_my_documents file into Sd card if we are going to do so?
ok, so... issue is, i go into applications and into "my files" but i can only explore the SD card files, before, i was able to go through the phone files as well, and now i cant. even when i connect to the computer and sync, it only lets me look around the SD card files....
the problem is i have "some pictures" on the phone that need to be removed but not deleted, how can i put them on the SD card or straight to the computer???

Use Astro File Manager, or better yet Root Explorer if you're rooted. My Files is extremely basic.
Downloaded astro. Found the files but feel stupid because it ended up being in dcim on the sd card. Thank you very much for your help.
There's just one more issue,i tried copying a file from the sd card into the font folder of the phone but it wouldn't let me.any idea why?

You need root access to do that, and Root Explorer, because RE uses Superuser and Astro does not.
ok ; this is probably a dumb question :
how do you cut and paste a file from your sdcard/bluetooth/blabla.mp3
to your phone/system/media/audio/notifications ?
i tried ASTRO File explore but i can't seem to copy/move it from the sdcard to the phone itself
ps: this is all new to me ( Android ) , its the first time we bought a Android phone .
I haven't used the Astra file menager, I use the EStrong one, but have you tried long pressing on the file to see if a menu pops up?
It does on Estrong
you can't copy files to your systemfolder because of the security on the phone.
You can try to create a folder ringtones on your sdcard, next you reboot the phone.
Then it should be reconized.
at some point you can, you need to root your phone and use "Root Explorer" and make "phone/system/media/audio/notifications" as R/W. then do what ever you like..
or you can make on sd card/media/audio/notifications and media/audio/ringtones
Don't mess with the internal storage too much.. that's the way Android wants it to be. Instead use a external storage card to store ringtones, music etc.

My microSD card is mounted at extStorages/Sdcard but as read-only that I have to connect to PC to write files to it.
How can I move or copy files form internal sdcard to my microSD card without connecting to PC?
you need to root your device.
This is a good place to start:

The stock file manager should be able to copy files to the SD card without rooting. However, in order to write to the SD card from any other app, you will need to modify your platform.xml. If that doesn't mean anything to you, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491954.
Well it seems that I have to root it before that

Thanks teiglin! I tried it and MyFiles works perfectly!

that would be good to know since this is something that is a bit fault in the original tablet.
It might be caused by google code since 3.2 android, unless samsung does a workaround.. i guess it will still exist.

If you just want to transfer file to your tablet, there is an application called MyPhoneExplorer. You have to install it both in your computer and your device. To access your SD card you do need to root your phone.
Connection can be made through WiFI, USB, Bluetooth or Fixed IP address.
Hope it works for you.

In my case it does.
It's not visible on my PC and never has been.
The 'posting' trick does not work to make it visible either.

If you need apk, just move the app back to the internal memory, then copy apk from /data/app folder (root access is required) to any location on your SD card. Then move your app back to the SD card. Voila!
