GMail - can send but can't receive - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

can anyone help? I've setup my gmail account in messaging, and can send to myself and others using messaging (send and receive sends fine), BUT I can't get it to receive! pop and smtp servers are setup ok but when I send and receive I get nothing back. I can logon onto my gmail account and see the email sitting quite happily in my inbox.
any ideas?

Hi, I imagine you already have your issue fixed, but if not, are you allowing pocket outlook to auto config the settings?, I skipped this the first few times when first setting my email up, and it seems I always had something wrong, so I let the auto config do its thing, and it works beautifully with gmail.

well, i've stiil not got it working yet, but i'm going through the auto setup as we "speak". so i'll keep you posted.
MM.

how long does the auto setup normally take? it's been sat at the downloading stage for 30 mins now!

Dont know if youve seen this but theres a new app from google for gmail, its java and i couldnt get it to work but others may have success, anyway you can grab it from http://gmail.com/app (using your mobiles browser)

That app doesn't work with the midlet manager on the TyTn

got the same problem with my gmail and also the same problem with the auto configuration. does anyone have gmail working for both sending and receiving? if so can you post the settings? thanks

And me, I cannot send but receive. I was use defalts setting for gmail. If any one want to set by defalts, you must be online! Can any one resolve my problem?

pop.gmail.com:995
smtp.gmail.com:465
no ssl
no domain
use authentification, outgoing settings same
mine is set to connect and check every 15 minutes, and get headers, and 999kb of body.
I just set up my two gmail addys a day ago, I did a hard reset to fix a few issues, all I do is put in my gmail addy, and password when it asks, and it working in minutes.
I didn't pay special attention to your carriers, but I think I might have had issues when I used medianet [email protected], I pay for the pdaconnect plan now, resco radio wouldn't work on wap either.
I dunno what to tell you for sure, but if any of you use cingular, you might give the [email protected] settings a try, but I wouldn't plan on using them permanently you might get a crazy bill.
I'm sure the other carriers have corresponding settings, and I'm just guessin the problem, but that is the only possible difference in our devices, and I'm not sure about your connection.
edit: I don't think any of you are on cingular, I seen tmobile, but I really don't have any ideas on what all the different carriers offer.

Just make sure in GMail on your c mputer you go to settings, tab forward and pop and set up gmail to forward messages to POP ONLY from now on. If you have a lot of messages in Gmail it will take forever otherwise.
Hope this helps.

Actually found a way to get it to work
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5729.html
Gonna try sky mobile jar using this technique too.

msmobiles.com says that the latest version (6.1) of the IBM J9 JVM for CLDC runs Gmail just fine. Have anyone tried it?

Yes it works, anyone know of a good link to d/l the jar file for sky by mobile

UPDATE
Tried doing sky by mobile app using this method can enter login details but cannot click or use the login key on screen so same as manually installing the jar using default midlet app, very annoying so close yet so far.

Then why mine wasn't able to run Gmailapp until I have installed a Java VM?

You haven't install a Java VM but one more Java VM, which runs Java applications in a different way.

Possibly but it still doesn't answer the question: why was my TyTn unable to run any Java with its shipping OS?

yahoo messenger?

I have tried the webmessenger tool hich seems to connect to msn fine but has probs connecting to yahoo. is there any free messnger tools i can use to IM on yahoo at the moment?
try imov from www.movsoftware.com
the only proviso is that you need a Jabber account somewhere.
this is a list of jabber servers:
http://www.xmpp.net/
I think mail2web runs one as well
rgds
cheers.. will look into it..
if only yahoo had their own app like they do for series 60
they used to.
you can still download it:
http://download.yahoo.com/dl/ce/ymsgr-ppc.exe
might still work
also forgot, agile messenger works quite well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50022&highlight=agile
rgds
thanks will try those tonight..
Agile Messenger works very well, BUT after entering your account details, it tries to log in.. and tries, and tries, forever.
The solution is to press Next, then go to Options - Preferences, the last tab, and disable "Secure connection" or so.
After this, it worked flawlessly.

Cool... has anyone tried this yet? Is it WM5 compat? I would just download and test, but have just got my Uni the way I like it, don't wanna hard reset again!!

its a very old version of YM written for PPC2002. For some reason Yahoo stopped the project to support PPC. A big mistake as ICQ, MS and AOL do support it.
i heard that tmobile dont allow IM apps on their handsets as their current data deals for net browsing and email are not meant to be used for MOIP bummer

All fine after deleting the setup and recreating one using POP (instead of IMPç which is not supported)
Remember to tick the incoming + the outgoing mail SSL security' option.
Remember also to set your internet Gmail' settings to allow POP.

Oops, I spoke too fast! It is logging on and synchroinising, but no email comes!
There was a problem with gmail in general today - probably for 2-3 hours...
Here's the fix!
Provided by ionide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1152463&postcount=273
There is a fix for that issue! It took me a while to find out, but it works perfectly.
In the gmail account settings of outlook mobile, add "recent:" in front of your username, Eg. "recent:kyphur"
Now messages downloaded on your PC wil still show up on your phone and vice versa.

thank you so much for this tip. I thought I was going mad, everything seemed to be set up as per instructions etc, but messages kept vanishing. Then I realised that it was opening outlook which stimulated this. Your tip has worked a treat for me.
what if I don't have it setup on my pc and only on my phone. As of right now, it synchronizes and told me it was downloading all 465 of my messages, but it showed nothing in the inbox.
Have you tried the java applet? I find it much nicer than the POP version, though the "recent" tip might make me go back.
The java applet seems throw up a ton of java errors in WM6 for me...anyone else get that?
I don't have those errors. I am running LSVW's version of WM6. The Gmail applet works fine. It did NOT work under WM5 but now it does.

IMAP Pusher Service

Does anyone know if this programs runs on htc touch hd?
http://www.codeplex.com/ImapPusherService
I will runs quite well. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now with my gmail account and only bug is that it gives an error message after soft reset, but nothing major. All in all i've been satisfied with the program.
Seven works very well also:
http://community.seven.com/choose.html
or alternatively you could just set the native email client to check for mail every minute if you have an unlimited web package (joke)
Edit: I can confirm that the program you linked to in the first post does indeed work on the Touch HD - just tried it successfully myself!
I just downloaded this, but before I install it, I was wondering: Can this be configured for multiple accounts?
Thanks!

Hmm. The most frequent option I'm given on my Touch Pro is every 5 minutes...
The programmer of the application you have referred has "disappeared" for quite some time. Webis do a full email client that supports IMAP Push without any other add-on, however it is not a solution if you want to use the inbuilt mail program.
An alternative that is I use now is Mail2web, which has a completely free option and is based on microsoft exchange, allowing you to use the "proper" email push service. Simply forward all your emails to that account.

Mail2web is only free for US, UK and Germany. Others countries now have to pay a monthly fee.

Strange I never saw any link for a free service on the mail2web site. It seems they've discontinued it alltogether.
Try SEVEN, free too.

SMTP hotfix not working, what now

I installed the SMTP Hotfix from Microsoft but i still cant send my mails. What else can i do?
Any ideas how i cant get this working?
You can check Microsoft forums too.
I also have unresolved smtp sending email problem from one of my accounts.
Email hotfix didn't help.
There'a another fix around here but I didn't try that yet.
Actually, I also use ProfiMail, excellent email client and it works no problem.
Does Profimail fully integrate and use the same database as pocketoutlook? Or would i have 2 mail programs side by side. If the second i guess i could not uses Profilmail from TF3D too.
Do you have a link to this issue in the microsoft forum. I imagine this would hard to find..

The link I will post later on, now it's on my laptop..
What do you mean by the same database??? It's a professional email program,
The only difference - no HTML answer/forward.
And it doesn't handle Hotmail.
Here's the link:

That fix istn working either. Actually i meant the link to the microsoft forum..to see if another attempt to fix it is made..

Maybe diggin' through these Microsoft
forums would help.
I also think that we should remove the whole account >
reboot the device > and than set this account again.
As I said, I use ProfiMail anyway so it works for me.
I also think some servers make bigger problems than others.
I experienced this before on a different platform...

Damn i think this is worth trying. I deleted recreated the account before..but it never occured to me to do a reboot after deleting it...that might be important...
Yeah...
But if not, I don't know than....
Ok that didnt do any good either.
I have no idea than....
I made a hardreset, installed the hotfix, setup my account. Still not working. There must be something special about my mail hosting service..at least poutlook seems to think its special since it works with other mail apps.
Well hard to say man.
I have one account which was working perfectly on
Symbian UIQ platform's default Email,
ProfiMail on Symbian UIQ,
And now ProfiMail on WM .
But not on X1 default messaging.
Which works no prob with my other account as well as Hotmail...
No idea.
Yea i`m having one on GMX, working fine with the X1. And then 2 over my own webspace, with them i cant send via poutlook. But it works fine with other programs..even a java midlet on my previous phone was able to handle that. So i'm beginning to think this is a different bug.
The new firmware fixed it...for now..

Gmail.com mobile version

So I just moved over from a G1 which was obviously well tied in with various Google apps. Recently Google setup a special gmail system that works great for mobile phones. I know it works on Android and iPhone, but how can i get it working on the TP2? I tried to change my Opera user agent to the Android mobile one, but that just cause gmail not to load at all.
Has anyone had success with this?

You can just set it up in outlook. It works just fine.
There is a mobile app you can install by pointing your phone's browser to www.gmail.com/app
I checked it out and it is a JAVA app but every time I try to install it, I get an install error: "The connection dropped and the installation did not complete. Please try installing again."
You can try it if you want but I am just going to stick with my current set up. I am using the built in e-mail program to send and receive my gmail. It works fine for me.
or you could try PushGmail http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563313
I'm running v2 of the gmail app over Esmertec java . . works great!
My home DSL provider started using GMail as their email service back in March, and since then I've simply enable IMAP connection in GMail and then setup email on my WinMo phone using the IMAP settings. Works very easy, and keeps my desktop, online, and phone all in sync with each other very well...
On that note, the push GMail functionality looks very nice...but I also have my company email/contacts/calendar pushing via exchange activesync. Is it possible to push/sync two different systems?
