Hi, I am a new user to
A) this web site
and
B) this Phone. 5 days so far.....
I dont know if my topic heading is quite correct but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
This phone seems to have so many names, anyhow, mine is on Orange here in the UK and called a SPV M3100
Right, only thing that gets on my nerves a bit with this phone is there is no
T9 "predictive text input" like I am and have been used to with Nokia phones for the last 7 or so years.
What I mean is, you all know how you write a text message on a Nokia with predictive texting. using just your thumb etc.
What I am after is, is there some software / program I can download that would make the screen like a keypad within the send SMS program. so it is easier to text.
Because unless I am mssing something. The only way to text on the ORANGE version is either with the slide out keypad, or with the virtual keypad and stylus ???
Thank you for reading this and perhaps you can advice me.
To get T9 with a normal style phone looking interface you can install the PhonePad application which is available here on this site (its linked in the Hermes Wiki):
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/Phone Pad - English Only.CAB
You can also use the Block Recognizer, Onscreen Keyboard, Letter Recognizer, Symbol Pad and Transcriber as well as the slide out keyboard on a standard M3100.. In fact I think the options are the same as any Hermes?
Hi, I'm very keen on buying the P3600 and am just wondering about a couple of things - firstly, not having used a touchscreen before, how easy it texting using the on-screen keypad. Secondly, an odd question, but one I've been wondering about - if you're viewing a web page, but are holding the P3600 in landscape (or sideways) when you use the scroll button which way does the page scroll - horizontally or vertically?
Thanks
Vertically.
Texting is fine on the Dopod D810 - I use the stylus and keyboard only now but if you prefer Phone Pad style, there is one installed too. I just don't like the way it requires you to select the word from the prompt list rather than just display the word in the msg straight away. If you're ambitious (& patience), you might also like to try the Transcriber with your hand-writing
TenGo text entry
Anybody tried TenGO Thumb and if so, does it integrate well with the Trinity and more importantly is it easy to use?
Thanks for all your help so far.
I've tried to install TenGO before but couldn't get it to work. Right after that, I found PhonePad and haven't looked back. For long texts/emails, I use Spb fullscreen keyboard...no stylus necessary...
Hi
i have tried to install TenGo and this phone pad, oh and a couple of other alternate keyboards, and try as i may i cannot get them to show up. They exist in the list, both as an alternate input method and as an option on the keyboard choice pop-up. A soft reset after picking one still returns me to the original keyboard.
Am i missing something really obvious? If so where should i start looking?
Banafish, what is 'Spb fullscreen keyboard' - is it a stand-alone application?
Try using the iPhone-like keyboard. Love it for texting.
Of all I've used so far, thats the most comfortable, especially in landscape mode . Not only the keys are big, it also doesnt eat up all your screen space when writing like that of spb keyboard (which is good for writing essays, which I'll never do).

SPB fullscreen keyboard is an application:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/fsk/?en
You can install/uninstall it like you would any 3rd party app. Once installed, it will appear as an input option and you can access it that way. I have it mapped to one of the hard buttons so that I can just activate it when I need it.

Does anyone know if there's a sip out there that shows how many characters you've typed...because you really need to know when you've reached the 160 characters limit for a single text message?

I thought you can see this in the default message window, just that you need to close the text input panel first.. or scroll down the window.
ok, I just got tengo keyboard to work. Not for fast one handed operation, although you can try tengo thumb. There's a free 'lite' version of the regular tengo keyboard available.
Anyone ever tried using Fitaly? I managed to get upwards of 40 words per minute using that, even sometimes hitting 50 wpm. I installed 3.5 on it though, and it slowed down my phone so much, I had to take it off.
I have a question for those of you (if any) who are using the letter recognizer, the block recognizer, or the original Windows Mobile keyboard as your input method on the Touch HD: Do you get word completion pop-ups?
I'm a long-time WM user (the Touch HD is my fifth WM device) and the letter recognizer is my preferred method of input and one of the reasons I like it is the convenience of not having to type entire long words most of the time, with the ability to simply pick from the completion suggestions pop-up instead. However, I get no completion pop-up on the Touch HD when I use the letter recognizer. The same is true for the block recognizer and the WM keyboard as well. Am I alone in experiencing this? Am I alone in being annoyed by this? What gives?...
I use the Letter Recognizer and find it faster than any of the keyboard. Make sure you enable T9 in the default keyboard and word completion will be available. I thought I lost it too when I accidentally disabled T9.
Thanks for your response. This tells me that something might be wrong on my device, because I get no word completion pop-ups even when I do that.
Here are all of my current settings related to this:
On the Full QWERTY keyboard, the "ABC <-> T9" slider is set to T9.
On the Compact QWERTY keyboard, the "ABC <-> T9" slider is set to T9.
Under "Touch Input Settings", "Word Completion in T9 mode" is selected, "Word Completion in ABC mode" is selected, "Auto-Substitution" is deselected, "Spell Correction" is deselected.
Under the input "Options" (the original WM input options), on the "Word Completion" tab, "Suggest words when entering text" is selected. (The "Suggest after entering" setting is "2 letters", the "Suggest" setting is "4 words", and "Add a space after word" is deselected.) And "Enable Auto Correct" is deselected.
Still no word completion suggestion pop-ups...
I have no idea what could be wrong!
If there's anyone out there with additional insight into this, your feedback would be appreciated. You might be my only hope.
It's odd, I set mine to the "phone keypad" and now it wont go back to any of the others, I've tried them all, selected them, go back in and *poof* it's gone back to a standard phone layout. Turning it on and off failed to fix this so I'm presuming I'm going to have to reset
I have the same problem here too.
What keyboards do you have installed? I have the SPB Keyboard, reckon that might affect things??
All my settings are the same as above...and HD Tweak says T9 and word completion are on. T9 and word completion wwork fine on the keyboards but not the letter/block recogniser.
I don't have any third party keyboard installed (if I don't count the HTC stuff that came with the phone). I do have a bunch of other software installed, on the other hand. But, I don't think any of those have anything to do with input methods (although, it's hard to discount "unintended consequences"...).
I must add that suggestions don't work for me on the Windows Mobile default keyboard either. (I'm not sure if you implied that it works on yours.)
So, my exact situation is as follows:
HTC Full QWERTY keyboard:
Suggestions displayed horizontally listed (i.e., HTC-proprietary)
HTC Compact QWERTY keyboard:
Suggestions displayed horizontally listed (i.e., HTC-proprietary)
HTC Phone keypad:
Suggestions (surprisingly) displayed horizontally listed (i.e., HTC-proprietary)
Windows default keyboard:
No suggestions
Letter recognizer:
No suggestions
Block recognizer:
No suggestions
Suggestions aren't applicable to the Transcriber, naturally.
Perhaps I should have tried this much sooner, but it just occurred to me to try a wider Google search on this topic, and I came across another thread on this site that seems like it might contain the solution(s):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441656&highlight=word+completion
I'm at work right now, so I can't try it right away, but I'll surely do it as soon as I get home. If anyone else with this problem is willing to try that before me, please let us know about the result.

I use the phone keypad on mine and it was fine up until yesterday.
The only thing it gives now is numbers! every other method of text input appears to be ok
Strange, I have had no issues with word complete as long as T9 is selected in the default HTC Full QWERTY keyboard or any of the HTC keyboard. Had this issue with my Omnia in the past where if T9 is activated, the Word Complete pop-up won't work and I had to do a registry tweak to enable word complete, after which T9 is disabled in the other keyboards.
One questoin from a newbie -
i have a problem that I can not menege to use Letter Recognizer.
In settings for inpust I select Letter Recognizer. And confirm.
But always I get keybord. If I open settings again the Full Querty is chosen.
thanx
sorry - I've read the f... manual

I had a similar problem on my rom (German) after setting T9 to enabled in HD Tweak. Setting T9 in the keyboard settings is fine but you might wanna try to deactivate it in HD Tweak if you enabled it there before.
should it only work when T9 is on ? Or should it also be on when you use ABC?
Cause I would like to have it on when I enabled ABC
I use the letter recogniser about 50% of the time.. I find it slightly quicker than the keyboard on WM.. However as a long time user of UIQ... SE P800/900/990/1 I wish there was something similar to the letter recogniser available on those?? Any one know? It was so logical.. Use the lower half of the screen for letters, top for numbers, and straddle the middle for capitals.. Not like WM where you are restricted to a small box at the bottom.
anyone know if you can get this for WM6.1?
Well, I'm happy to report that the solution explained in the post at the following URL has done what I was trying to achieve (post #8 on that thread):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2630663&postcount=8
This brings back the word completion pop-up lists on the standard Windows Mobile input methods. It does eliminate the HTC word completion on the HTC input methods, though (including T9, which makes the Compact QWERTY useless for typing words). But, if you're not interested in those input methods and all you want is to be able to use the Letter Recognizer, Block Recognizer, or WM keyboard with word completion, this may be your solution. (Naturally, try it at your own risk...)

How exactly did you get the Letter Recogniser to work? I used to have it in the OEM ROM but my Enable_recognisers.cab doesn't seem to work on Dutty's 2.1 xtreme ROM.... or is it me??
When I use HW keyboard it always has ABC mode on. I have to use FN key and T9 key to choose T9 manually.
How can I enable T9 to be automatically ON when I use HW keyboard?
Thank you for your help
the t9 always works with a onscreen keyboard. Also if you manage it with a hack a problem would be to where the word suggestions should pop up on the screen.
when someone write a programme for your suggestion than it would be a custom keyboard without letters, only word suggestions and pops automaticly up when the keyboard on the pro is used.
Maybe someone already wrote it.
It would be nice trough
Search for the cab god damn it! There is a cab in one of the ezinput keyboard threads in dev & hacking that allows T9 to always be on (Yes, including the HW keyboard).

You don't happen to have a link to this cab at hand, do you? I for one would like to have the T9 always on (even with the hw keyboard), but did not manage to find the correct thread / cab even after an extensive search.
I searched with no result, unfortunately. If you could be so kind to address me to that cab, I would be very grateful indeed.

Oh that was so hard I almost had to use my brain
First result when searching on ezinput T9 always enable came up trumps...
DeadKeys / T9 as default behaviour for the Fn+Space combo - Full HW Keyboard phones
I thank you very much. Even if I walk around here for years, sometimes it happens that I am not able to find out things. Fortunately there are others who help
You're very welcome, glad to help.
Thanks for pointing out about the keyboard, did you test it and it works?
why not FN + Space It´s working at my device
Because I would like that when I slide out the keyboard I can immediately type with T9 on, without switching it on manually - this is the meaning of "automatically ON"
okaaaay. sry for that, but just tell me the sense of T9 with a "complete" keyboard!?? Do you also have T9 at your computer at home?

I see a couple of ways T9 is useful with the full keyboard.
1. Words like "won't" can be typed out with w-o-n-t rather than w-o-n-FN-'-t
2. It helps with long words. We can use the arrow keys to choose the word after a couple of letters rather than typing out the rest of the word.
There's a fundamental difference between the keyboard on a mobile device like the Rhodium and your desktop keyboard. On our Rhodium, we have only our 2 thumbs. On a full size desktop/notebook, we make use of all 10 of our fingers.
It seems that we are concentrating on why I have asked to have T9 ON, while I was asking HOW to have it on.
If you don't agree that it is a good thing that somebody finds out how to, simply don't post here
I never used T9 but it supposed to offer words from vocabulary? in my case it doesn't...
well, has someone found a way to make this work on landscape or hardware keyboard ??
having to always activa xt9 is boring ..
(that cab does not work) looking at the registry is changes from 1 to 0 when changing to landscape and it's the htc keyboard doing this. If you activate xt9 and change to the default windows keyboard it works but then you have a small keyboard when on portait.
I agree, the same thing happens to me. The easiest solution is to have it rotate to portrait, pull up the XT9 keyboard and then open the screen.
It's a pain, though. Would love another solution.
Dead key
None of CABs which can be found here are not working the way that if I will press Fn+Sym it acts as deadkey - always T9 dialog is shown. Have anybody idea how to change it?
I just got Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 windows mobile 6.5. The only options it gives me for text input are full qwerty, compact qwerty and phone keypad. I found transcriber in the windows directory & am able to use it. However, there used to be something called "keyboard" which I really liked and I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me. Thanks for your help.
Hey,
When you are in your text field at the bottom of the screen you should see a keyboard icon. I know on 6.1 it is between your two reply and menu I believe in 6.5 it so n the side.
When you click it, it opens your keyboard then there should be a little arrow beside that icon click on the arrow.
This should give you the options of phone keypad, Full QWERTY and keyboard. under those will be other input methods which have transcriber keyboard, letter recognizer and block recognizer.
If some things arnt there then sprint may of had them removed and you might want to look on the forms to find a CAB for a new keyboard.
thanks for the help. i guess sprint did remove them, because they just aren't there. does anyone know of a cab file that would restore them?
