Camera records into mp4, Windows Media does not play mp4

Then film clips I take with my XDA II are in mp4 format. I want to view them on my desktop computer. Windows media doesn't not recognise mp4. I have used Quicktime (I think) in the past but didn't like it. What is recommended to play mp4 videos? Or how can I get Windows Media to play it, if possible?

u can play real and quicktime files from Windows Media Player if u install the Real Alternatine and Quicktime Alternative :wink:

i have tried lot but failed to play the video in media player full screen.
is there anyone can tell me that how to make and play the vedio in full screen ??????????

This has been asked before, you need to ensure the video you are trying to watch is recorded in 640x480 before it will play full screen.

When you use PQDVD, encode it in Xvid (AVI) format, and play it in TCPMP. In this setup, you can encode and playback VGA-size videos smoothly.
If you select WMV format, the VGA video playback will be choppy, both in TCPMP and Windows Media Player.
Looks like TCPMP is more optimized for Xvid than WMV.

If you want to view any kind of vedio formate on full screen, just get the following freeware:
TCPMP http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php ....it's free, and there is no format which can not be played on full screen.

what's the best application to watch video on the wizard...? I've been converting avi videos to 3gp with total video and it's been working, but is there anything for WM6 that will play avi files...? converting them to 3gp is great for saving space (converting an avi video to 3gp makes it roughly 1/10th the original size), but the video quality is pretty bad...

i like tcpmp the best, but you can also use win media on your phnoe and get the video on there by using windows media convertor, a free download on microsoft.com as long as you have a legit copy of windows on your pc.

I've been using total video converter and converting them to mp4 files, they play on the WM6 media player...
to save space, I used 3gp format, but the quality of the video is horrible...

Are there someone recommend softwares for converting MPEG video file into MP4 that can play in Athena WMP 10?
I tried ImTOO converter but my Athena says it doesn't support that file. I have old MP4 files that are able to play in WMP 10.

install TCPMP and the codec pack then you will be able to play any MP4's !

google is your friend ! start with just TCPMP and if that does not work add the codec pack, the codec pack can be a little harder to find so I will up it for you.

Do you mean you can't view it?
What type of file is it? MP4, 3gp, avi?
Id recommend VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ on the PC for viewing most video files. Its free, lightweight and just works.

I dont know why you did not start your own thread on this but try installing something that can play 3gp files like quicktime

Windows Media Player supports only certain type of Codec. To make WMP support MP4 format, you should install filters for MP4 format and its associated codecs. After you installing these filters, all players that use DirectShow technology, include WMP, will support MP4 format.
Install the following codecs to have a try.
Elecard MPEG-4 Codec Pack
If you can't install or still can't play MP4 in WMP, converting your MP4 to WMP natively supported WMV or AVI format with Faasoft Video Converter is the best choise.

if the video passed through many programs , even in the best suitable format , it would have loss of quality ! dont measure the format , measure the quality ! i've seen many films in mp4 which are better thant .avi or mpeg

i downloaded one-click video converter from polaris-software. avi to mp4. it's freeware. now, i'm trying if it works good.
tried playing .avi to my phone but it doesn't recognize it. but it plays mp4. so i'm converting my avi files.

To play avi files you need core player... or you can also use Divx player (freeware).

I dont know whether this helps or not, but this is what i do to view movies on my Touch2,
I have downloaded DivX Encoder (google it) its free.
I encode all my movies using this encoder & then use TCPMP player to play them on my device.
Works like charm..
