TyTN and the Linksys WRT54G - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Has anyone tried to use their TyTN with a WRT54G Router. I can get it connected to the wireless signal and it has a DHCP IP but I cant seem to get it to automatically pickup the DNS servers. I an connected to the WAN via PPPoE. The connection is 100Mbit FTTH. The PCs wired to the network can get on the net just not the TyTN on the wireless signal.
Any help is appreciated.

Nevermind
Put the DD-WRT custom firmware on there then set the DNS servers manually and its blazing.

Hermes (Dopod 838 Pro) and the WRT54G Router Issue
I have the same problesm! I run a WRT54G router AP at home and created a MAC list that enables access. Of course I updated the MAC list filter on AP. I get to connect my JasJar, but no such luck with the TyTN. Then I hooked an ASUS portable access point to one of the routers cable slots and my TyTn connect seemlessly!
I read the DNS suggestion and alos trying to run the AP woth fixed IP! I would then have to do that for all systems that access the Routre, right! Isn`t there a way to make th 54G work with DHCP and assign IP addressess dinamicly to the TyTN, as it does to any other WiFi equiped device?

Try this;
Check what type of wireless encryption you are using. If you are using AES then create another SSID or change the current SSID to use TKIP for your TyTN to connect to. I don;'t think the TyTN supports AES.

oops, ignore my reply. Clicked on the wrong button and accidently replied here

you can always do this... sell your linksucks on ebay or to a friend then go buy a better router i have seen many issues with linksucks and HTC devices, there was tons of weird issues with the wrt54g and the wizard

Mine works without issue. I do have the sveasoft firmware loaded though. I also don't use pppoe.

Load the DD-WRT and it's very stable..

I have a DLINK 604T and it work with no issues with dynamic IP/DNS. This router is also cheap as compared to lynksys

WRT54G working FINE with Hermes 100
Hi Everyone!
If you own a WRT54G router/access point and were experiencing trouble to connect your Hermes 100 to it, sweat no more! Go www.linksys.com, select downloads and choose from the long list of routers. Make sure you match the model number and the version number of your router. Download the FIRMWARE upgrade. I was running the original firmware from my router a WRT54G V1.1. After upgrading the firmware, my router worked great and the range was almost 4 times what I had before!
Check it out!
Cheers
Michael

Was a bit worried as read this before my Vario II arrived and I have a WRT54G...
Connected fine 1st time... just added MAC to filter and put key into vario. bingo-bango!!
FYI I have WRT54G Firmware Version: v1.42.2 (the firmware I bought it with)

Sandisk WIFI and Linksys WRT54G

Hi Peeps,
I have searched this forum and the Internet and have found loads of info on problems with the Sandisk WIFI and D-Link routers (54G) and some have found workarounds etc.
My Linksys WRT54G (54g) (mixed mode) is not accepting the Sandisk 802.11b and I wondered if anyone had a workaround or experience of this.
It also makes me wonder that as community hotspots upgrade their routers to 54g (mixed mode) more and more of us are not going to be able to get on with our Sandisk cards.

I have tried on BEF11S4(B) and WRT54G(G) both work fine...
Try update the rom for Linksys Router or set the speed to "B" only and try.
I've been using SanDisk Wi-Fi with Linksys 54G, firmware v1.06, Feb 18 2003 and I was ONLY able to connect after setting channel 6 on the AP. Same happened to 3com 3CRWE7254G PCMCIA card. Don't know why it's so, as at home I am able to use any channel with 3com OfficeCOnnect 54G AP..

Hi Guys,
I have updated the firmware : v2.02.2, Jan. 6, 2004
WOW, the interface has changed and I now have the new 256bit WPA
However, I still can not connect I have tried B mode only .... now available as an option
I do not use WEP or WPA only MAC address. I did read somewhere that a WEP key was needed regardless....
Any thoughts ? ..... cheers
im not to sure about the sandisk wifi card, because i dont have one
but last week i did upgrade my home network to the new equipement from netgear
all my wireless pcs worked fine except for one
make sure the channel is set correctly
mac address shouldnt be a issue unless ur trying to setup a bridge
what got me was the wireless card in the laptop had a hard time switching from the old access point to the new one. make sure ur SSID is set to what ever the access point SSID is
regardless if the access point is set to broadcast or not (means itll send out a signal lettings pcs know how to reach it), they need to match to connect.
none of my pcs require WEP unless i turn it on, but now that im at 802.11g and not b, i think i might turn it on till i take a laptop and start walking around outside to see how far it reaches
hope it helps

Cheers Mario,
The XDAII see's the network SSID, and says 'available' when it tries to connect it drops back to available as if it can't get on ... almost as if the MAC address was wrong (I have checked )
When I go home my Belkin 802.11b router is picked up instantly, so I know all the settings are OK.
I found this today
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/69/35986.html
ita a article on incompatibility between different wifi vendors, might wanna read it really quick
other than that, basic trouble shooting says...
whats the difference between your home network and the one you want to connect to ?
Do both have dhcp setup and working ?
does it not work with web or have you tried AIM, msn messanger, telnet, etc... ?
are you able to ping a server from the xda2 ?
alot of this will oviously be based on what programs you might have installed. not sure if / or what a good telnet program for ppc would be
a ping test might give you a good idea if your being assigned a ip address, but just cant get to a web address
have you tryed changing what wifi standard your using ? on my new netgear, i have the option of b , g , b and g, 108mbps (specific to netgear i think) and 108mbps auto sensing

VARIO Wifi Access points that Do or Dont Work!

Im looking to get the Wifi working on my Vario at home. My current Access point wont connect due to T-mobile's lock out of the 802.11g.
So I can get a Access point that works, I thought it would be helpful to post up your Model with a Yes or No after you have tried all the different settings as posted on the forum e.g. different channels and mixed mode etc.
This is for g Locked Varios only please not ones with flashed ROMs.
Please keep it simple Model YES or NO.
Thanks

Inexq HR054g Access point (NO)
if your Wizard has b only (ROM issue, not hardware) then ANY router which is set to allow g only will fail to connect. yours "should" allow "b" devices to connect http://www.inexq.com/web1/images/product/spec/hr054g.htm
So maybe you have a setting that is allowing "g" only

Have you got MAC address filtering enabled on your router and forgotten....I did.
Also try changing WLan card settings on your XDA from Best battery to best performance..Make a lot of difference. and many have found theirs connects after this
All turned off any other options
I have a BT2100 wireless router and mini-s, sometimes it won't connect until I stop active sync running on the mini-s ???
3-Com OfficeConnect ADSL Firewall Wireless 11g Router (set to mixed)
Vario will only connect when router set to open access i.e. security disabled. Any other setting i.e. WAP, WEP causes the routers internal DHCP server to fail to send an IP address back to the Vario... or the Vario being unable to acknowledge the router?
Have got a couple more routers comming my way, will post them up when Ive had a chance to test them

I've seen this issue detailed elsewhere but I can't remember exactly where - apparently for some reason the 3com sends back an IP v6 address when security is enabled, which the Wizard can't use.
So far I've used a cheapie Origo wireless router (conexant chipset) and a Netgear D834G (in mixed mode), my Wizard seems happy with both.

Wizard and Belkin Pre-N: Incompatible?

I have a new Wizard (O2 XDA Mini S) which refuses to connect to my Belkin Pre-N router.
Despite trying all I can think of, including Encrypt On/Off; WEP, WPA; b/g mixed access; changing Channel and SSID, reset to defaults etc, etc I still get no joy.
I even suspected a hardware fault with the Mini, so had it changed, but the new one is the same.
When I start WiFi, the Mini finds the Router, and requests the WPA key. Once supplied, it just goes back to "Available" in the list of connections; forcing a "connect" shows it trying to connect, but it just returs to "Availabe" again. The network properties shows no connection (no SSID or Channel) and no signal strength.
All my other WiFi clients connect fine- O2 XDA Exec, Toshiba Laptop and another PC client. Even my old Ipaq with jacket connects, so its not a b/g problem.
I've even tried using the 802.11g registry hack cited in another thread to no avail.
The Mini did connect to a BT Openzone Access point this morning, so the capability is there.
Connection settings for the connection are for "The Internet" and the overall network card settings (above the Network adapter list) to "Work", though I did try this with "The Internet" out of frustration.
Any ideas guys?
Neil

Thanks for the advice, but I tried it without the hack first- no go, and have now done a hard reset (I've done so many hard resets I've lost count!)
Everything I try fails. Just about to try the firmware update for the Router.
Sorted- the router firmware update fixed it!

So you are saying that the router was the one causing the issues, you think, and not the Wizard (MDA)? I have the same issue. Have the hack (g) installed. I was only able to connect once to the my Belkin pre-n...but for some reason cannot get an IP address...ever...
I think it was a combination of the 2 things:
The G HAck on its own did not work, and the firmware update on its own didn't work, but updating the firmware, and using the G hack allowed my Wizard (O2 Mini S ) to connect and it has been fine since.
In fact I've now applied the "Linksys Hack" to my Pre-N Router, so it now thinks its a Linksys and is much more stable generally. If you try it, make sure you reset the Belkin to factory settings before applying the hacked Linksys firmware. Read the relevant forum entries carefully!
yeah. I did the linksys hack as well. I must say that I'm happy about that. it went really well. didn't need to do the factory reset and I only had issues with my dhcp range. but I fixed that.
still no love with the wizard though. do I need to set up a separate connection setting on my wizard? do I have to turn off the phone and the enable wifi? I also have the hack were I have gprs always on....could that be conflicting?
TIA.
The Wizard does seem to have more connecton problems than the Exec (I've had both) as its WiFi hardware is less advanced (based on an older SDIO design rather than fully integrated)
You should not need to turn the phone radio or GPRS off when connecting WiFi, though it might help troubleshooting if you do for establishing the initial connection.
I assume you are using WPA encryption? WEP is a royal pain on WM devices as you have to enter the full 26 character hex encryption key in the WiFi settings control panel- WM2003 and WM5 won't accept WEP passphrases.
If you are using WPA, I'd suggest removing the connection settings for your router on the Wizard, then turning WiFi on again and allowing it to try & connect. If that fails, you need to recheck your network settings.
If you are still having problems, you might like to look at my answer to a simiar query on 4WinMobile Here which worked for that user.
Thanks NeilM. I do have the old school WEP. It IS a pain entering in the Hex string (grumble). I need to check to see if my networked-tivo's can handle WPA...
I will check your other post as well.
Read through your other post. I think it was a "dumb" thing that I did. I changed the "connect to" item on the wireless card from "The Internet" to "Work" and it picked up an IP immediately. Duh...that would make sense if both my GRPS connection and my wifi were going to "the internet"...and thus conflicting, right?
My knowledge of Networking protocols etc is sadly lacking, so I don't know the answer to why this is how things need to be! I suspect all the network cards need to be connected to "Work" because the device has no direct link to "The Internet", and once connected via "Work", the TCP/IP settings take over and route packet calls to "The Internet" via the IP address settings.
Most important thing is that you are now connected!
Hope you can find time to visit 4WinMobile more often now you've found it. It's not intended to be as technically upfront as XDA-Devs, but is a very good inter-personal site with a great spirit, and some pretty good insider knowledge
Belkin pre-n
My MDA Vario would not connect with the original Rom. I was hoping this ROM update (CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe) found here forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44631&highlight=mda+vario would allow it to connect but it will still not. I used registry wizard to update the registry settings for Wifi G, but it still will not connect successfully. It seems some roms will work with the Belkin Pre-n. Does any one know which specific rom works with this particular router.
I'm getting desperate here- I can't get my MDA to connect to my Belkin Pre-N. Nothing works. I've got the latest firmware on the router, and I've enabled the "G" hack on the phone.
Anyone have any ideas? I've tried removing all encryption and security and still nothing. I can easily connect to my old Dell TruMobile router, but I don't want to use it because the range is so poor.
Is there anyway to ensure 100% that I've enabled the G hack?
Belkin Pre-n
I finally have my Belkin Pre-n (or linksys SRX clone now) working with my MDA Vario. It would not work with any Belkin firmware or variety of settings, but since its harware is the same as the Linksys SRX you are able to flash the unit to a Linksys clone. As a Linksys clone the Mda Vario connects flawlessly with no trouble. The first Belkin Pre-n I flashed to a linksys bricked the router, so be careful with this. To successfully reflash you must have a version 1 Belkin pre-n not v2 a hex edited version of linksys firmware found here http://www.streamload.com/Nodes/Node.asp?cxInstID=86340166&nodeID=672194467
IMPORTANT Have the Belkin pre-flash set to the default linksys IP 192.168.1.1, the default password 'admin', and the dhcp server turned off. These are the default settings for the linksys firmware and and if they are pre -set result in a easy flash. If these settings are not followed pre-flash you stand to brick your router, or have a difficult time ressurecting it. You must manually assign your computer an IP within the 192.168.1.1 -255 feild as you will have dhcp turned off. at the fierst login dont be alarmed it will not work. Restart your browser and type 'admin' in the username as well as in the password field. Now you can upgrade your router to the newest linksys firmware 1.02.10_USA found on the linksys website. Congratulations you now will enjoy flawless wifi on your linksys flashed Belkin pre-n.
Wizard with Belkin pre-N wifi router
I had the same problem. Turned off QoS and it connects without any problem. Try it.

WPA-PSK with TKIP and Belkin Pre-N Router

I have been trying to connect to my Tmobile MDA to a Pre-N router. The router is set up to do WPA-PSK with TKIP. I can get the Wizard to connect to it and I see a very strong signal strength.
However, when I try to browse using IE, I keep getting an error that I cannot get to the web page. As soon as I disable WPA and connect, I can browse. I do have the registry hacks to go to G mode. Can somebody please help me debug this problem?
Thanks,
MT
I had the same problem, and was only able to fix it by updating the Belkin Firmware to V1.1.03.
Alternatively you can reflash the Belkin Firmware with Linksys Firmware (they both use the same hardware) which makes it much more stable (and allows the Prodigy to connect. (Google Belkin Linksys Firmware to find out more about this)
It gets worse, I just upgraded my Wizard to the new AKU2 ROM and now I can't connect to my Belkin Pre-N with either WEP or WPA...
Downgraded to the old ROM and WEP is working again!

Wizard not working with Belkin pre-n router
I use WEP encryption. Could not get my Wizard to connect to the Belkin pre-n router. It was working with Netgear G router. Turned out if I turn off QoS on the Belkin pre-n router, everything works. Hope this works for y'all.

WLan and WPA

Searched and searched, Has anyone had an issue with using the wlan SD8686 with WPA?
I can connect with no security and with WEP and I am able to browse the web.
I can still connect to the router using any of the WPA but can not get any pages to load in IE only works with wep or no security. 3 other laptops work fine.
Any idea? HTC Tech support no help.

I can't answer.. but that reminds me the WPA issue that I have with the HTC Touch ..... my Touch is unable to use any WPA ... when connected the touch just freeze .. and I have to soft-reset and hope to the Wireless not connecting before being connected before disabling the Wireless.
it seems that WPA or the wireless chip is really bad ... but don't know which one !
Shift works fine with WPA I am currently using TKIP+AES
I have had nothing but issues with my Shift and Belking N Router using WEP...
Sometimes it would connect, the majority of the time the shift couldn't see the network and it did connect it would lose connection. I tried it with WEP and also with no security and also with MAC address authentication only. Every 50 times I tried to connect, it would connect maybe once.
So, decided to use my old standard 54g Belking router. Guess what, no issue so far with no security applied. Was planning to try it with WEP later....

No connection
Hi,
maybe someone can help. Since yesterday I belong tot he proud owners. But, but, I can’t get a connection to the internet over my WLAN router.
Router Netgear WPNT834. Whatever I did no luck: either I get the message: limited connectivity or only local Zugriff connection something like that.
No problem with XP notebooks, but with Shift and Vista.
Has anyone an idea what causes the problem? Is it the router?
Do you know any router you can recommend: strong signal and reliability?
Thanks
Settembrini
No issue with WPA here
Hi Settembrini,
So you got your Shift from Amazon.de at the same time as they delivered mine after all
Regarding the WiFi connection to the router, it seems to be some routers / chipsets.
I am also using WPA (with a Siemens SX550i router) and it worked without any problems. The Shift detected an encrypted network with hidden SSID and after I entered the SSID and the encryption password it connected immediately and with a stable connection.
WLAN access
Hi mw65719
yes, more or less same time.
So what is the conclusion? It is my Netgear router WPNT834, why I do not get a connection? Need for a new router it seems!
Thanks!
S.
Yes same here, I just bought the new Belkin N1 Vision router and all other equipment works but the Shift can't even see the the router. I just hooked a netgear router in series with the belkin and the Shift can now see the Netgear..... Was worried for a bit there.... Really annoyed about the shift not being able to see the belkin, the Belkin wasn't cheap.
Hi,
I was not able to establish a connection to my Netgear router WPNT834, then I tried the Speedport 700 V and it worked without any problems, no special settings in Vista neccessary.
I guess you have a different Netgear router than mine.
S.
