look in the upgrading etc. sub forum of the Wizard forums. There is a sticky there that is titled [READ FIRST] The Definitive Guide for Unlocking G3 Wizards. It will tell you everything you need to do to unlock your phone. Just don't skip any of the steps they are all important. There is no reason to pay someone $100 to unlock your phone, you can do it yourself in less than an hour by following these instructions. And by the information you have posted you have a G3 device which makes your life a whole lot easier.
goooood stuff just waiting for a friend to get back to me and ill swing over to his place since my windows 2000 machine here is junk.
i have to find out how to backup all my contacts though because i dont want to lose them. once i have the phone unlocked is it a good idea to overclock it and install WM6 ? i dont wanna kill my device though

umm, you could just connect to a pc and sync your contacts up in Outlook. There are also software options to back them up but database structure changes between WM5 and WM6 will make a restore impossible. Syncing them up through an activesync connection with a PC is your best bet for backing up contacts.
You could also copy them all to your SIM though I don't know if all fields are preserved if you do that.
As far as overclocking goes, I would suggest you use the battery status plugin and use application specific overclocking, as most things will not need or benefit from over clocking.
If you are flashing to CUSTOM rom make sure you CID unlock as well as the SIM unlock that you need to do so that you can use the phone. They are 2 different unlocks one blocks other carriers sims, the other blocks other carriers, or custom roms.
You should also back up your EXT Rom before flashing a custom or a different carrier rom. It will make recovering your GPRS/MMS settings and other carrier specific settings easier.
alrighty ive downgraded the rom to buttons cooked rom and tried to run the lokiwiz.bat and it doesnt do anything, i dont get a code or anything. I run it from the C:/ and press U to unlock and heres what i get:

Thatsbthe procedure to CID (not SIM) unlock a phone if I understand what you did. Since you are this far finish that procedure (use the sticky by Dr P found in Wizard upgrading). You can use the thread I pointed you to, to SIM unlock your device.
yeah i read that guide and downgraded the rom now when i boot i get these:
IPL 1.01
SPL 2.26
OS 1.5.4.2
GSM 01.12.10
when i run the lokiwiz it doenst give me any codes though, like when i hit the unlock.

CID unlocking won't give you codes, but make sure you follow all of the steps (your other post indicated some errors when you did the lokiwiz). Did you put enabler.rapi n your phone and run that first? Also make sure the lokiwiz files were placed right on the root of C:\ (just like Step 5 says).
Also, once you get the Lokiwiz unlock to work, then you'll need to do the button rom again to get the SPL down to 1.xx. Then you can move back to an official ROM (like T-Mobile 2.26). After you finish that, then do the lokiwiz .3a that was in the post I referred you to, and that one will give you codes.
yeah i ran that made sure it was installed on the phone. I also made sure i was guest when i sync'ed to the phone. lokiwiz was also in the C:/ directory and ran with the prompt like normal.
As far as i know im suppose to downgrade the rom from what i posted in #1 to button's rom. Which i have installed but my SPL is 2.26. When i get the unlock codes and they work i run the same Button rom installer to lower the SPL to 1.x then i can upgrade to a newer faster rom correct?
I know these seem like really newb questions and stuff but i THINK i have an idea on whats going on i just keep getting thoughs errors and no unlock code for the phone.
Kind regards,
Eddy
i never did a CID unlock though, and i still think i managed to downgrade to buttons rom? is that even possible lol?

Your IPL will go down then after you CID unlock you can flash it again and your SPL version will be the same as your IPL version.
Did you execute enablerapi on your device prior to choosing the selection in the lokiwiz menu?

Yes, thats how you do a CID Unlock. You downgrade to button. So thats fine and totally expected...

WHy do you keep saying about getting unlock codes. I've told you 2 or 3 times now that you will NOT get codes by doing this process. You run the lokiwiz once doing the U and the phone will reboot. Then you run it again doing the C and the phone will reboot. Nowhere in the instructions does it say that you will get codes. After you complete those steps, since your SPL is 2.xx, you have to do the button rom again and that should take your SPL to 2.xx (if it doesn't do it a few times until it does). Then (and only then) you can flash the T-Mobile 2.26 official rom to get your IPL/SPL back to 2.26. Then go back to the original post I gave you to do the actual SIM unlock (and thats where you will get codes.

What rom are you trying to put on? If you have the problem i think you have, i would not go around asking everyone cus you will get smoked! As its on here like a million times!
First off take your storage card out.. .. send off, flash back to original carrier rom... leave storage card out and flash again..
....
CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe
where can i find th original t-mobile 1.08 rom for the mda....
i cant seem to find it nowhere....
i had the same problem wen i was upgradin to wm6
I guess it does offend the moderators because I just posted the same question after searching and searching for weeks on resolution on this issue. They toasted my thread, probably this one too and I hope they don't because after reading 100+ posts on this topic, there was no resolution. Of course I tried without the SD card. I tried the 1.05 ROM as well as xenin's T-Mobile 2.26 ROM with built in CID unlock and both froze at 98%. By the way is your QTEK 9100 from the factory because mine is and I think this is the common denominator in this problem. Please someone help cause I'm probably new to this forum (not to howardforums) but I know my phone stuff so this is a real issue! Thanks in advance and pls do not delete this thread. Thanks.

You better start re-reading the 100+ posts!
First of all your WIZ needs to be CID unlocked - a 'build-in' CID unlock in a ROM you're trying to flash will not help!
I understand that. That was my second way of trying to resolve it. I originally followed the "The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards" post and followed it word for word (and read all 36 pages). I tried flashing buttons 1.05 ROM (http://rapidshare.com/files/18212239/CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe.html) and got the 98%. The second time I thought I'd give it a shot and tried xenin's T-Mobile ROM with built-in CID and it froze at 98% too! My suspicion is that there is something different about factory phone than SP branded phones. Anyone else?
I also rebooted my PC and phone. Deleted all my session temp files. Tried 3 different computers. Tried without SD card. Everytime I it froze at 98% and had to revert back to the original QTEK 9100 ROM (2.17). And just for kicks I tried installing T-Mobile's original 2.26 ROM and it gave me a "vendor match" error, meaning it's still CID locked.
Umm, if you bought it straight from HTC/Qtek, wouldn't it already be unlocked? From your last post, it seems you do not have a branded or locked phone...
It is SIM unlocked which means I can use an SIM card. BUT it is not CID unlocked meaning that I can't flash the ROM to another maker's ROM (like QTEK to T-Mobile or QTEK to Cingular or QTEK to Custom ROM).
I wsa thinking that HTC and QTEK have tight bonds and was wondering if I can make the jump to an HTC ROM and CID unlock it from there. Not sure if that makes a difference. Kinda stuck

You must flash a FULL carrier 2.xx rom before flashing any custom rom from this site (other than the ones used for CID unlocking)
You will have issues if you skip step 17 of the Definitive guide to Unlocking and Upgrading G3 Wizards (Sticky in this forum).
Hi, I'm going to be getting a SIM unlocked t-mobile MDA soon, and was wondering if I should put a custom ROM on it. I understand I have to CID unlock it first. I'm new the custom ROM thing, but I've been intalling custom homebrew firmwares on my psp all the time, so I know about the risks. People have told me that I shouldn't do it because the mda is desgined for windows mobile 5, and should be left at that, and custom ROMs are very buggy, and freeze a lot. Is this true? and can someone help me to CID unlock my MDA. Also, how can I tell if its a G3 or G4? and what's the difference between them? and there are so many custom ROMS out there, which one is the best? I heard it was the core 2 by xplore, but im not sure. What do you think? Please answer with something! I'm very frustrated right now, THNAKS!!!
In the section called wizard upgrading is a sticky by Dr. P...in it it explains how to unlock your device. Read it, then read it again, follow the directions explicitly.
As for rom...I have a Tmo MDA running a WM6 custon rom...Jaguar 3.1
Each rom is different, it depends on what you want in a rom. If you want bells and whistles go with a TNT rom. If you want a zero calorie rom go with a Core rom and customize as you need by installing 3rd party apps. If you want something in between, go with Jaguar or a Faria...there are so many amazing chef's at work here at xda, that in truth, you just gotta try each kitchen out until you find the one that meets your tastes. Be warned...you may turn into a flashing junkie and need to join the xda 12-step program!!!
Ok, thanks. You've helped me a lot. I think ill go with the faria or jaguar, I like the sound of them, but ill look up more info on them first. Thanks again.

It all depends on your taste...i always like to cook my own ROM...pick the one you like, dump and add packages you like and enjoy...but READ (I mean READ...) wiki and stickies before you flash...dont just flash anything and brick your device...
PS: Stick with OS version ending .318 for better wifi connections
Ok, thanks. I should be getting my MDA tomorrow (thursday) so Ill probably start installing custom ROM's on friday, because I want to get to know the MDA a little bit before I install customs ROM's. Also, how can I check if it's a G3 or G4? I know it has something to do with the numbers that show up when the device is turned on, but I'm not sure, can anyone help? Also, hat do u mean "add packages" can I customize my custom ROM however I want? I can add whatever apps I want on the ROM? Also, are all custom ROM's windows mobile 6? are there such things as windows mobile 5 custom ROM's? its not that I want it, just curious. Is there a such thing as jaguar.318? (you said .318 has better wifi)

All you need is in here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard. Jaguar is .318 OS, if you flash that you should be good to go...read wiki before you do anything with your MDA. Good luck.

Hmmm, Take my advise,as you are getting a new device,it wud probably will be with wm5 T-Mobile Rom.why don't you just use it for sometimes, enjoy the new device, get to know all the features and applications and really get to know your device and when you are fully comfortable then go for an upgrade to wm6 version Rom. In the meanwhile, READ 'n' READ all about CID unlocking and upgrading,so that when you are actually going to do it,you have the whole procedure done successfully and effortless
Secondly, it's very very important to know the correct DOC chip version on your device ( G3 or G4) cuz both the devices have all together different method for upgrading,if you do a G3 method to unlock or upgrade to a G4 device,it'll "Brick" the phone,so first determine the version of the device. Download the WST Tool and install, run it and check the report it generates to verify the DOC chip version, whether it's a G3 or G4 device.
Good luck
Yeah, your right, I got my MDA yesterday, and I'm pretty happy with wm5 right now. Ill put a custom ROM on later, no point in risking a birck already, but I still want to CID unlock it now, so I don't have to do it later. Thanks for your advice. I found a lot of things to on the net make a wm5 look like wm6, i got a theme, and media player skin. Do you know any other ways I can make my wm5 look like wm6? Icons? buttons? sounds? is there anything like this on this website? i'm going to check anyways.
Search in the xda wizard forums. A while back someone posted WM^ themes, ringtones, icons etc...if it isn't in the wizard section, then I saw it in the general topics section. Sorry I cannot remember which, but I DO remember seeing it posted here at xda, so just search WM6 themes.

To verify the CID lock/unlock status, download the WST tool and run, check the button "CID Action" written on it,this will give the report to verify if you device is CID locked or unlocked.
Secondly, don't use Win Vista as it has many problems yet.Flashing is always easy and recommended with WinXP SP2,ok

My ROM is WM5, based on the old AKU 2.3 (rev 4 is, rev 5 which is gonna be released soon will be the latest WM5 OS build). You should not use shelltools to change to my ROM, since I've got some fixes/updates done by extendedRom, which shelltools doesn't update! Also, WM5SE is G3/G4 safe, so you can use SoftSPL or HardSPL to flash it so its safe for every Wizard PDA. Why doesn't everyone use it? Its the freedom of choise, everyone is free to use whatever ROM satisfy his/her needs. ShellTools takes about 30 minutes to flash. A CID Unlocked device can be flashed using the official RUU upgrading program, that takes about 6 minutes... also its safer.
Just make sure you have read all the stickies on WIzard Upgrading forums, before ever flashing!
You said you took out windows live, where can I download it if I want to put it back on?
IMPORTANT!!!
one last question, do I need to downgrade my SPL to CID unlock my phone? I have a G3 T-mobile MDA runnig the latest t-mobile 2.26 ROM. How can I downgrade to CID unlock my phone? LET ME KNOW ASAP, I'm in a rush....thanks!
YES !
CID unlocking is only possible through 'lokiwiz02b' Tool and it only works in IPL/SPL 1.xx,so to unlock you'll have to downgrade to IPL/SPL 1.xx.To CID unlock read this Sticky :-
