I thought you might be. Why not just tap "speaker on" on the phone screen. That woulld seem the simplest solution and will give very high volume but still adjustable by jog wheel.
Mike

registry
I don't like that solution. I'm almost sure that a change in the registry can be done in order to get more volume.
Thanks anyway

if you're in the street or somewhere else that are noisy...then I would advise you to get a bluetooth headset or probably bring its headset with you....that should help.

Ear Speaker Volume Low

Is there a way to increase the ear speaker volume on the phone? When I'm making a call and I walk outside I can barely hear the person I am calling. I have to be in a fairly quite place to hear clearly on my Titan. I tried increasing the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Phone/"Vol" value but I'm not sure that really did anything.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Call sound: great, but volume very high

Hi all,
The call quality of the HD2 is very good. Reception is great, people understand me very well and I can understand them very good.
My only problem is that the sound is so loud, when I'm using my phone at my ear (so without speaker or bluetooth).
Do you have this as well? Is there somewhere a master volume that can be set?
To be clear: the volume is already at the minimum...
Thanks!
Koen
Does the earpiece speaker also pop/crackle somtimes when the tones are high or very loud? I hear a ticking in the earpiece speaker.. that is very anoying!
Will probably swap my device for a new one.
Not really.
But as I find it now too loud, I don't like to use to make normal phonecalls.
Koen
I have the same problem..
One weird thing though, it's only on outgoing calls, incoming the sound isnt too loud!
i had the same problem but only with outgoing calls an mine sounded terrible, still does( think my speaker is broken)
You can edit the registry.
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2, i think one is ingoing and one is outgoing calls.
Edit Initvol, i have both mine on 2 now. and the volume is much better!

Thanks, now it's great!!!
I've got the exact same thing!
The quality is great, but sometimes the volume is just way too loud, almost up to the point where it hurts my ear.
One additional thing is when I get a notification on the background that a message has arrived during one of those loud calls, volume actually switches back to normal.
In my registry incall2 was set to 5. Resetted it to 2, hope it works
could anyone clarify
Where can I find that
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2 thing. Please help! How do I enter registry?

Not sure if I did a soft-reset, but you might just give it a shot.
Both outgoing and incoming call volumes are now fine on my device...
[edit]
Actually got another loud outgoing call..
When I took a better look at the inCall and inCall2 properties, they seem to be for the notifications you get when you're in a call.
So changing them to '2' is OK, but doesn't actually solve this issue.
It may be an explanation to why my sound swapped back to normal after receiving a notification though.

Tried a soft reset too, but my ears still hurt! Any other suggestions?
This is totally unacceptable, has nobody got a cure for this? I can't use my *phone* as a phone, the volume is deafening! Both speakerphone and earpiece are way too loud, even on the lowest volume setting.
try this one
Here's a solution : you need to use the Schapman advanced configuration tool v3.3 (freeware).
Go to "HTC audio manager" -> set "music volume" (or something close, I don't know of it is labelled in english, I only have the french version) to 30 or above (below 100, which is the maximum) and then soft reset your device.

I can't seem to get this to do the trick. Is there anyone out there who has used a program to specifically lower the earpiece and speakerphone volume on their HD2 'Leo'? I'm going to have to return my handset if I can't lower the volume. I love the phone but if I can't make calls on it it's useless!
*bump*
This needs keeping near the top as it's a MASSIVE problem. Doesn't *everyone* find their HD2 far too loud??
It happened to me only once, when I woke up, press power button to get the screen on and dialed a cab, it was way too much loud.
Today I made some calls, received them as well, and it was ok.

Hey mate, sorry to see noone picked up your question...
So, increased ringing is working fine for me, and I'm almost certain it works for you too.
However, the guys at Microsoft had a rather... "interesting" way of creating this feature: why you don't probably hear an increased ringing sound is because increased, microsoft way, means that the "song" will first ring at your current volume, that a little bit louder, that louder again...
So keep in mind, the entire sound (so if it's 10 seconds long, you will hear the entire 10 seconds, the sound at one level). When the sound is played from the beginning, only then will you hear a louder sound and so on...
Hope everything got clearer!
Alex
Thank you amang for your important info. I use mp3 song and this is long song. But increasing from current volume level is strange .
Do you thing, that is possible to change, that increase ringing will start at level 1? Or maybe (but this is maybe impossible) increase after 2 second of ringing and not after whole mp3?
thx

Knobody knows if is here any way to do this?
Maybe with mortscript, which will control if is ringing ON and if yes, then will increase level of sound to higher. Eg. after 1 sec..
Is it not possible? I tried to search which registry key control phone ringing status (if now phone ring - incoming call) or NOT.
Really is it not possible to do this?
thx for any help

Cab to lower the incall volume?

Would anybody please try to make a cab that would somehow lower the incall volume?
I know there are many of us that "hate" our Leo for damaging our ears! Please help us fix that!
Don't point us to HTC support! Have been trying that for about 7 weeks now, with no real result but pathetic fixes.
regards,
GG
First off I will be moving this thread to general when I have finished responding.
Secondly, can you explain your problem a little better please. If you really mean turn the in-call volume down, ie NOT when the phone is in speakerphone mode, you can do this now by simply holding the down volume key while in the call to make it happen.
If this is not what you mean then have another go at explaining yourself.
Cheers
WB
unless i've read this wrong i think you win the worst question of the year award...lol
as above, just turn down the volume.
sorry to but in here and sorry if its a noob question but i've had the same problem...
when i answer a call the volume is so loud everyone around me can hear the call!
now i've tried clicking the side key to lower the volume but it goes to the black screen with the bar and silent and vibrate on there and its only on 6%
I'd want to say (another noob comment) that i have sometimes found the sound is irregular, sometimes its low but normally very loud... isnt there meant to be a function where you place the phone next to you're ear and it lowers the volume so its not damaging you're ears?
I think that question is valid. You can only turn it down so much. All sounds on HD2 are too loud; be it call, music, speakerphone, ringing. You can hear speaker breaking at 50%, and your ears bleeding at more. Distortion is present even at low values.
So, I'm with OP, but I want to expand request: how to lower ALL volume on HD2? In other words, instead 10-100%, I want 1-10%.
maybe i just havent noticed due to being pretty much death
the question should be: how to reduce the default incall vol, is that right?
The earpiece and handsfree produce a lot of noise, I agree. there are a few threads already about volume too high and poor sound quality i.e. distorted audio. with earpiece calls try raising the volume first to just above minimum, then keep lowering the volume even when level indicator has reached minimum to reduce call volume further.
Don't be quick to judfe please!

Maybe I haven't explain myself well enough. Why do you and all the smart asses that gave all that cheap advice think that just because we're not mods or developers we're dumb.
It is a well known problem with the HD2. Even with the volume all the way down (while talking on the phone) it's still very loud!!!! Very Very Loud! And I don't mean that trough speaker phone but through the earpiece!
Does this justify my frustration and my legitimate question?
If you can't say nothing good say nothing at all!
thank you!
I know of those threads!

We do expect more of the senior members here but then again maybe we're wrong in doing so!
why do you assume I don't know how to use the volume buttons?
It's a well known fact that hd2 is very loud while incall and even with the volume all the way down is still too loud!!!
G
its loud indeed,
I and I would be personally intrested in lowering the top volume, so highest settings are more reasonable, and stepping down from that actually make it lower sensibly
I had this issue with the call volume being too loud even when turned down, and sometimes it would distort/crackle with certain words/letters. I used the following registry tweak and it's worked absolutely perfectly for me. I've used it on the old ROM and the latest.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\inCall AND InCall2
Change the value of InitVol to "2" in both inCall and inCall2
See if that helps

I've done that too but that volume is for incall notifications only. You can verify that by having someone call you while you're engaged in a call. You will barely hear them if you turn the volume to "2".
thank for trying though!

call volume always starts out quiet

Every time I answer the first call of the day, I have to turn up the volume, which is very low. Does it default to low volume from start up?
Also, I frequently put my phone on vibrate with no ringer, then back to full volume ringer throughout the day. This wouldn't have anything to do with call volume, would it? Sometimes mid-day the call volume is back to low.
I use a bluetooth when driving to work, but adjust the call volume on that device, not the phone.
Am I just doing something dumb, here?
Thanks
