howdy, this as i'm sure you can see is my first post. anyway, umm just in need of a little help. if anyone here had a sony clie ux50, i'm sure you wouldve heard of a camera program that allows you to access the ux50's camera through a remote Wi-Fi enabled pc. i believe this sort of thing existed for the AIBO's camera aswell. i was wondering if such a program existed for the HTC HERMES?
thanks for any help.

Try this link. (coolcamera) But so far as I know this one needs active sync operating to use camera as a web cam - perhaps not exactly what you want. Others may have better ideas.

Hi Guys.
I use the flashlight a lot. It comes in handy but is a bit of a pain having to switch the camera on to use it.
I tried looking through the whole of the registry to see if I could find a way of switching it on without the Camera but no luck. If I could do it' I would either set up a voice command to use it or use one of the buttons directly to run a program to switch it either on or off depending on what it's state is now.
Is it possible or is the flashlight's functions restricted purely to the Camera?
Thanks in advance
Brian

Won't somebody please, give me a Wizard?!?
Just joking...
btw, can someone try Haret on the wizard and check if that starts up the flash. If it does, I'll reverse engineer from there. I don't have a wizard and can't test the more elegant driver based solution without the hardware.

Tried haret on my wizard vijay - application wouldn't even start
meschle: thanks for trying it. I'll get a Wizard one day. Until I get more HTC hardware to reverse engineer, I'm not really clever enough to implement a more generic solution. For now, Universal and variants only I think.
Hey, and thank you again for your PMs

Hi guys,
Since my Universal is dead I've just brought an HTC Tytn.
There is any way to access the front videocam? In Universal you just need to go to camera app and choose the front camera, where you can take pictures and make videos.
In Hermes camera app you can only access the 2.0mpx cam... I've already installed Coolcamera 1.5b and I still can't choose the front VGA videocam.
Any suggestions?
Tks
Phelipe
PS. No 3G networks available in Brazil, so no videocalls yet...

I had same problem, but some folks have said coolcamera can access front camera - maybe someone can let us know how it's done with coolcamera?
Mike
yup coolcamera let's you access it, you just switch from main to frontcam, you can take pics and all using it.
photo / settings / sensor / front
If you go into settings there is a setting called "Sensor" ... you need to change that from 'Main' to 'Front' and then it will capture from the front camera.
Hope this helps

I can use the front camera now with coolcamera but the screen is 90 rotated to the right. There is no way which I could correct this even if I change the rotation setting. Can someone help, please?

Yeah. I get that too.
Also, Probably me being dense, I can't seem to get the web cam to actually work on my pc.
I can set the IP address in the pda to that of my PC. The port is 2047 on both devices, but nothing seems to appear.
What am I doing wrong?

Difficult to say. Presume ypu have used d-pad or jog wheel on device to select webcam mode. Presume you have started the coolcam software on your PC and a coolcam window (which is expandable) has opened on your screen with instructions as to the next steps to take. And finally that your active sync connection is live. Sometimes I get the window on PC coming up blank/black in which case I close PC application and restart it.
The little 90 symbol on screen should rotate image. If not and restarting does not make it work, I think I'd reload the software.

On CoolCamera forums support said that the rotaton issue is a bug they're aware of and will fix later. Nothing you can do for now.

I wonder though why it affects some and not others. Mine is ok - rotates fine.

Hi guys
do you know any program for Uiversal that enables the device to video chat with another pc. i have fount microsoft portrait , but it doesnt support universal webcam.
thanks.
no ways?
I'm also looking for that kind of application.
Anyone could help us?
Many thanks in advance!
Currently, there're no TCP/IP-based (that is, no UMTS-based "native") chatter apps.
I too would love to have this kind of app, it just brings the Universal to yet another level!. Ive tryed searching but found nothing. I hope someone finds something soon
SKYPE
Anyone tried SKYPE mobile? I hear it works on PDA's I think it has video also.
How about Microsoft Portrait... http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/
skype>>doesnt have video chat
portaite>>doesnt support universal camera
did you ever used cool camera software that get the ppc video to pc with active sync i think this is based on tcp/ip.we should use this http://www.ateksoft.com/ >>cool camera. plz test it and find that can we change the ip off the pc that configurated in this program.
well the new beta skype has live webcam, maybe a matter of time skype will release a new better beta skype with webcam
but it would be awsome
the new version of skype that has webcam its only for pc i think and its version 3 but i am not sure
That cam on the front was a damned waste.
Well not really, it was only ever put there for video calling, which some people apparently use somewhere.
Nearly everyone I know has a 3g phone, not one person uses video calling though,
skype mobile does not support video chat. Pointless to post information that you haven't verified or can confirm.
Odd, I've got the universal using the front camera on portrait today.
Make sure you use beta 3.0 and soft reset after installing it.

Sounds like some Bull**** Buddy. Nothing personal, but I've tried about 20 different possiblities, including changing the registry entry for the cam that portrait uses and it does not every work with the video call camera, only the main camera on the universal. Further research has shown that there are almost 30 other people who have made posts in various different forums about this very issue with different branded universals. It seems that with the current version its not possible. If you really did do this somehow, posting more useful information about what else you've installed or what you've tweaked may help someone reproduce it. As far as Im concerned however, this Myth is BUSTED.

Exactly, thank you for confirming. I've written ms portrait support to add support for the secondary universal camera, but alas, Im only one voice. I encourage you all to go to the site and ask them to add this feature.
tried to look for this answer, but i couldn't

I've tried 'Webcamera Plus' from Ateksoft to try out the security cam functionality and it seems to work quite well, not sure how good it is with MSN e.t.c, but there is a demo available.

There are a few threads here on it too.

thanks for the reply digital.diablo, but correct me if i am wrong, it appears that the webcam plus software transforms the camera function on ur phone (such as the htc x7500) into a webcam that can use for your PC, and not a webcam that can be used of the phone it self to have a live video conference.
is that right? if so, any other ideas?
thanx
Ahh, sorry, misunderstood what you were after. Yeah, Webcamplus is simply a way of using the onboard camera in your gadget as a webcam, so you could use it to video conference from your pc.
Not sure about your conferencing from the PDA though I'm afraid. Good luck on your quest!

i'll think about it. i doubt my friends would be interested to install a new software just so i can use my video viewers. maybe there is a messenger service that connects to all messenger services and has the software support to video calls.
if anyone knows of such a software do share the info
Is there a way to connect my 8525 to an external monitor? My bluetooth keyboard and mouse work great -- now if I could connect an external monitor, this can become one hell of a tool!
This sounds cool, not sure what I'd use it for at this moment but still a good idea.
Does anyone know if there is a cable that can do this for the 8525?
not the anwser you are looking for
I know this is not what you want. The link below is to software that will allow you to view your phones screen on your computers monitor, and control it with your computer mouse and keyboard.
My Mobiler v1.0
Maybe it will be the answer for some people.
Definitely not what the OP was asking for, but damn cool just the same.
Thanks for that link. I'm not sure I even wanted, let alone needed that app, but I'm certainly going to use it now.
anyone know is this exists
I have been searching for something like this as well. If anyone knows of a cable for monitor out or if it is even possible I would appreciate knowing as well thanks.

Well, you havn't tried SOTI POCKET CONTROLLER yet. That one is commercial but has even lots of other stuff integrated, such as screen capture, screen recording and a DOS prompt box ...
http://www.soti.net
There used to be...
There used to be a manufacturer making SD cards with TV-out for making presentations from a ppc. Not seen one for a while! If I remember correctly you used to be able to get them from expansys...
Happy hunting!
