Hi guys,
Since my Universal is dead I've just brought an HTC Tytn.
There is any way to access the front videocam? In Universal you just need to go to camera app and choose the front camera, where you can take pictures and make videos.
In Hermes camera app you can only access the 2.0mpx cam... I've already installed Coolcamera 1.5b and I still can't choose the front VGA videocam.
Any suggestions?
Tks

PS. No 3G networks available in Brazil, so no videocalls yet...

I had same problem, but some folks have said coolcamera can access front camera - maybe someone can let us know how it's done with coolcamera?
Mike
yup coolcamera let's you access it, you just switch from main to frontcam, you can take pics and all using it.
photo / settings / sensor / front
If you go into settings there is a setting called "Sensor" ... you need to change that from 'Main' to 'Front' and then it will capture from the front camera.
Hope this helps

it's possible access to front camera without use coolcamera?
thx
I can use the front camera now with coolcamera but the screen is 90 rotated to the right. There is no way which I could correct this even if I change the rotation setting. Can someone help, please?

Yeah. I get that too.
Also, Probably me being dense, I can't seem to get the web cam to actually work on my pc.
I can set the IP address in the pda to that of my PC. The port is 2047 on both devices, but nothing seems to appear.
What am I doing wrong?

Difficult to say. Presume ypu have used d-pad or jog wheel on device to select webcam mode. Presume you have started the coolcam software on your PC and a coolcam window (which is expandable) has opened on your screen with instructions as to the next steps to take. And finally that your active sync connection is live. Sometimes I get the window on PC coming up blank/black in which case I close PC application and restart it.
The little 90 symbol on screen should rotate image. If not and restarting does not make it work, I think I'd reload the software.

On CoolCamera forums support said that the rotaton issue is a bug they're aware of and will fix later. Nothing you can do for now.

Just a bit. Turns TyTn into a pretty passable webcam trial limited to 25 secs though. It has photo, video and webcam as basic features with a range of settings under each. Got a little bored with photo and video as these facilities are already available without this app. Webcam could have possibilities but not enough for me to by application.
I'm probably just a bit of a plonker but I have not found how you get it to use the front camera. Perhaps some enlightened guru can let us/me know.
Mike
Tap the screen to bring up menu -> settings -> sensor -> change main to front (this is for the beta).
Hi guys
do you know any program for Uiversal that enables the device to video chat with another pc. i have fount microsoft portrait , but it doesnt support universal webcam.
thanks.
no ways?
I'm also looking for that kind of application.
Anyone could help us?
Many thanks in advance!
Currently, there're no TCP/IP-based (that is, no UMTS-based "native") chatter apps.
I too would love to have this kind of app, it just brings the Universal to yet another level!. Ive tryed searching but found nothing. I hope someone finds something soon
SKYPE
Anyone tried SKYPE mobile? I hear it works on PDA's I think it has video also.
How about Microsoft Portrait... http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/
skype>>doesnt have video chat
portaite>>doesnt support universal camera
did you ever used cool camera software that get the ppc video to pc with active sync i think this is based on tcp/ip.we should use this http://www.ateksoft.com/ >>cool camera. plz test it and find that can we change the ip off the pc that configurated in this program.
well the new beta skype has live webcam, maybe a matter of time skype will release a new better beta skype with webcam
but it would be awsome
the new version of skype that has webcam its only for pc i think and its version 3 but i am not sure
That cam on the front was a damned waste.
Well not really, it was only ever put there for video calling, which some people apparently use somewhere.
Nearly everyone I know has a 3g phone, not one person uses video calling though,
skype mobile does not support video chat. Pointless to post information that you haven't verified or can confirm.
Odd, I've got the universal using the front camera on portrait today.
Make sure you use beta 3.0 and soft reset after installing it.

Sounds like some Bull**** Buddy. Nothing personal, but I've tried about 20 different possiblities, including changing the registry entry for the cam that portrait uses and it does not every work with the video call camera, only the main camera on the universal. Further research has shown that there are almost 30 other people who have made posts in various different forums about this very issue with different branded universals. It seems that with the current version its not possible. If you really did do this somehow, posting more useful information about what else you've installed or what you've tweaked may help someone reproduce it. As far as Im concerned however, this Myth is BUSTED.

Happy holidays to everyone.
I live in India and I dont have 3G network to test the front video camera of my JASJAM. So downloaded the trial version of CoolCamera software and installed it in my device. Then changed the sensor to front, hoping to see some picture. However the display was black and no picture/video was displayed.
I contacted i-mate live support and was told by the support person that it is not possible to test the front camera without 3G network and that they don't support 3rd party software.
Could the problem be with the front video camera?
Any help is deeply appreciated.
Thanks

I have not heard this reported before. Obviously you can test the front camera without 3G using the CoolCam software.
I would hesitate to think there's a problem with Camera until I had tried Coolcamera several times and possibly even uninstalled it and re-installed it - i.e tend to think more of a software issue first.

Lost Front Camera Function
I recently switch my phone from the GER to WWE Cingular ROM, and once I did that, I lost the front camera function. I didn't load any of the extended rom files when I reloaded. Did it contain a cab that enabled this feature. If I please the button, it does nothing.
Thanks

Well as Cingular don't currently support video calling I suppose that may be possible- but I have not heard about it.
Let's see if someone else does
EDIT: in fact the following link shows a post by Rassah that seems to say Front Cam support is included with Cingular ROM. (Mind you he seems to have a mixture of different things there including parts of the TyTn ROM so ????)

Mike
you could always test it with microsoft portrait, its an IP based video calling software that is in beta testing, if you look for it you should be able to find it...
The video call hardware button will not function with any Cingular ROMS. However, video call capabilities can still be had if you load the TyTN extrom. You just have to be content with using the software button that's on the dialer app if you want to make a video call.
FWIW, even when the video button is working it merely does exactly what pressing the green call button does: bring up the dialer app.
As far as the front camera function itself goes, CoolCamera worked just fine for it on my TyTN (the image is rotated 90 degrees CCW tho...) when I was running the v1.31 Cingular ROM.
Thanks for the info, do you know which cab in the extened rom gives me that feature, or will I have to load them all?

Since the phone is 2mpix, you're probably better off holding it far away and using the digital zoom to enlarge the area to scan. If the lens can focus, 2mpix is more than enough to zoom in on just the card before losing clarity.
The i-nigma should work on your Mogul

Hi dragon_76
I'm part of the developing group of 3GVision, who develop the i-nigma. On Sep 07 the i-nigma application didn't work on windows Mobile 6 devices. From Oct 07, we started support WM6. Please go to www.i-nigma.com and install the new version, it should work now. Please feel free to email me impression.

No need to snap with the i-nigma
The i-nigma work as scanner, there is no need to snap anything, just put the barcode in front of the camera and it will scanned automatically
i installed i-nigma on my wm6 t-mobile vario II.
It works fine, but the camera is flipped making it difficult to aim, (ie left is right and right is left, when in landscape. In portrait the image is upside down and up is down and down is up)
Anyone got this? and also, is there anythnig else on the site, all i get is the install link (when browsing via pda, work blocks the site via pc) could do with a help section, or FAQ.

What he said, I've had it on my phone for well over a month and it works fine without any problems. You don't have to take a picture of anything, it read the bar code as soon as it is in view.
It's a version issue. I had 1.26 installed, from my 6700 switch, but it was always buggy, often needing multiple soft resets, so installed v1.40, but have the same issue as the first post.
yup, 1.26 works on my mogul 2.17rom.

I Installed I-nigma on my mogul. Interesting program, nice to have. scans and decodes really quick. however i had the same "backward" issue. But u can fix it by editing the registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3GVisionInigma\i-nigma\option
"PreviewDirection_31" = 0
change 0 to 2
it will fix the backwards camera. However it won't fix the landscape issue cuz the program wasn't design to operate in landscape mode, the camera preview won't rotate.
It's really worth keeping now.

i wouldn't second this. adding a contact with quickmark resulted in a "," behind the name and a "h" behind the number.
i-nigma does add the contact on a right way.
Re: use back camera
i am using o2 flame, can i-nigma support back camera ?
Hi all,
I found that compared to the HD2, the camcorder function of the S200 is VERY bad, basically very blurry when there's motion. I've tried searching the registry for something that determines the bitrate/fps of video but couldn't find anything definitive.
Does anyone know a way to increase the quality of the camcorder?
I think there is little you can do about.
The camera of neotouch is very poor and so is video recording... It's a flaw u'll have to live with if you stick with the neotouch...
doubt it...the camera just sux..
Xakep from acer-club.ru find the answer -
Camera from 1.002c is faster then from 3.003c(b)!
acer-club.ru/Foto-Videokamera-s200-t461-page-360.html
Don't work with EzInput - just switch to other keyboard before starting camera.
capture mode: "Photo" or "video", don't try "anti-shake" - it's not work with this..
Deleted because of the error.
I try it on your manila rom and official 3.003c, it works.

LOL thank you for this patch, you can really appreciate the improvement!! (form very crappy, to ammm... not really bad)
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the cab, seems to work very well.
Also pushing out the little plastic lens protector in the back cover seems to improve things as well, mine had marks that couldn't be cleaned off it
yep, i did the same
The plastic lens decreases the picture quality very noticably.
Also decreasing the light value reduces the chances that pictures are blurry
Thanks for sharing. It really improved a lot.

With regards to the camera I found the following. If you have SPB shell active and you press the camera button to activate the camera, it also presses the fist item on the spb shell screen (in my case the clock or depending on the screen a contact or widget adjusting screen). This doesn't happen with WM standard UI.
I find it strange that nobody else noticed this. I use the stock acer 3.003c rom and have this problem with spb shell 3.5.3,3.5.4 and 3.5.5
Anyone else noticed this?

As the former poster tried to explain. There's no solution but to disable "click and hold" in SPB Mobile Shell settings
Settings --> System --> last item "support click and hold" -> off
that way the camera press won't interfere with the click to "edit layout" function. A minor hassle indeed but a hassle nonetheless.
Oh well, for the price. The S200 ain;t that bad. It's weird that the next model in Acer's WM-line, the P300, is LESS capable (and much slower) than our beloved Neotouch? But it does get a newer WM6.5?!?!?! What's with these morons? Just keep the S200 in your line-up and goddamn keep selling it. Soon all those Android ppl will return and they need a Windows Mobile phone NOT a Windows Phone phone!
