Hi, ive checked to see if this has been covered before and can't see that it has but apologies if it has. I have an unlocked XDAII which i intend to use on Vodaphone. Does anyone have the setup details (preferably in dummy speak) to enable vodaphone GPRS on it?
Many thanks in advance if you could share them with me.
Regards.
Check out This posting for connection settings and then This posting for instructions on what to put where. Just replace the O2 servers and settings with the Vodafone ones from the first posting.
Failing that, try the Vodafone customer service line - I think you can dial '123' from your mobile and they should be able to talk you through it (or send you more info).

This posting about the Irish GPRS settings is pretty good too.

Hi All,
Today I went to my local 3 store to test my O2 Xda Exec/Jasjar (universal) with a 3 simcard. This is what I discovered.
The 3services settings allows you only to access planet3. 3netaccess Settings is to be able to surf the net on your phone. You will have to manually switch beween the settings depending on what you want to do.
Question to you all out there...... has anybody worked out how to get video streaming with 3 ? When it came to accessing Mobile TV, I could not get it to work, I got a message "your device is not supported for this service". This was the case for all video streaming on planet3. I was only able to view text stuff.
My initial thought about it is that there are file format issues, remebering that 3 offer no phones which are windows based? I am thinking to try it again using pocketTV software. I use this at the moment instead of crappy windows media player.
So has anybody resolved the streaming issue?

guinevere,
I am using Three Australia as well and like yourself would like to be able to view Three content. I have posted on several forums and the only thing constructive I have found out is apparently a certificate is required on the device to access Three video content. I have also been told that Three are planning on releasing a WM based device in the near future which may help our cause. Any information you could find would be great news to a lot of people who use Three in Australia.
Hi Shane, great to hear from you.
Thats interesting I have not heard that yet, but it hmakes sense. I Dont have a 3 sim yet, still in research stage, thinking of getting one anyway till I fnd a better option.
Perhaps we could use this thread to collect info for Universal use with australian networks as there is not much happening at the aussie3g forum for us.
Do you have any info about using universal on optus, vodaphone or telstra, I have not tested there sims yet.
Also shane, have you got MMS working?
Guinevere,
I don't use MMS so I can't comment on whether it works or not, but a lot of people seem to be posting that it has issues. An interesting sideline I was told by my Corporate Rep from Three is that a senior Three official in Australia has taken a shine to the Universal and is using it rather than a Three handset - so maybe some development might soon follow!
Like yourself, Three support don't want to know anything as soon as they hear that we are not using a Three handset.
I think it's a great idea to use this forum as a meeting place for Aussie Three users with WM devices.
None of my colleagues or customers at present have gone 3G but I have a customer who is looking to join the Telstra network. The customer has been told that Video content will work OK on the Jasjar from Telstra. (As yet the device has not been approved officially for use on the Telstra network -unbelievable I know!).
I will post updates once I find out anything new.
Shane
Hi shane any news?
I have since got myself a 3 sim.....so far i am enjoyin it, just using it for basic things like reading tex news and other text stuff offered on planet3, also its good now with there My3 section where you can view your usage. I know also use it to check my pop3 email for when I am not in the office.
the only things still not functioning is the MMS and video streaming....which I have made up by converting all my favorite film clips and movies into divx's to play on my Exec
Thus far MMS and Video Streaming does not work on XDA Exec. Which is kind of silly since our phones are like 6 billion times better than what is in those 3 shops.

Telstra MMS Settings
I know this is an old thread, but some people may still be after the Telstra MMS Configuration for the Universal.
Under Connections, you need to rename "My Work" Network as Telstra MMS, and set up a new modem connection:
Enter Name of Connection as "Telstra.MMS" and select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G) for the modem. The access point is "telstra.mms.mnc001.mcc505.gprs". Leave username etc blank.
Next, open your inbox (messaging) and click on Menu/Tools/Options. Click on MMS to retrieve the MMS Configuration. On the preferences tab check "Retrieve Messages Immediately", "OK to download when roaming", and "Save sent messages" as you prefer with all other boxes blank.
Click the "Servers" tab. If you don't have Telstra there already, click on New. The Server Name should be Telstra, the Gateway is 10.1.1.155, and the port number 9201. Enter the server address as "http://mmsc.telstra.com:8002", and select "Telstra MMS" under Connect Via. Click OK until you are back to the Today Screen.
That works for my Jasjar on Telstra. Hope this helps somebody.
Dear friends, before I begin with the details of Airtel Live, I wish to thank everyone at XDA-Developers for working on ROMs, fixes and the support that is being provided here.
Special thanks to dsixda for producing Onyx 3.0 because of which my HTC Touch Elfin (P3452) rocks even more.
Now regarding Airtel Live service: Airtel Live is free GPRS service that Airtel provides to its customer with a catch i.e. as per Airtel, you can only access http://live.airtelworld.com for downloading latest ringtones, games, wallpapers, videos etc.
If you call Airtel Customer Support to get Live on your HTC Touch, they tell you that it is not supported on any Windows Mobile phone and suggest you to go for Airtel Mobile office, full GPRS service for a monthly rental of Rs. 499 (USD 12).
After googling and fighting with Airtel, I managed to get the correct settings and I am able to run Airtel Live as well access most of the websites on standard HTTP protocol (SSL is not supported). Google Maps also works for me.
On Windows Mobile 6.x, the steps to configure are as follows:
1. Activate Airtel Live by sending the following SMS to 121: MASALA ACTIVE.
2. The service takes atleast 3-4 hours to get active. Restart the phone and resume configuring.
3. Tap Start -> Settings.
4. Select Connections Tab and tap Connections.
5. Select Advanced Tab, tap Select Networks button to bring up Network Management.
6. Under "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" drop down, tap the New button.
7. In the General Tab, type the name of the settings as Airtel Live
8. Select Modem tab, tap New...
9. Type the name of connection as Airtel Live, select the modem as Cellular Line (GPRS) and tap Next.
10. Type Access Point Name as airtelfun.com and tap next.
11. Leave username, password and domain blank and tap finish.
12. Select Proxy Settings tab. Tap "This network connects to the Internet". This should enable the next check box option.
13. Tap "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet".
14. Type the proxy server as: 100.1.200.99 and then tap Advanced...
15. Tap HTTP, leave the server as 100.1.200.99 and change the port to 8080
16. Similarly tap WAP, Secure WAP and Socks, type the server as 100.1.200.99 but leave the port to defaults. These are optional settings.
17. Tap OK to close the Advanced proxy setup screen.
18. Tap OK to close the New connection screen.
19. The network management screen should now list the new connection you have created in the drop-down. Tap OK to close this screen
20. Tap OK to close the connection screen.
Now you are ready to fire your favourite browser. I have tested this on PIE as well as Opera 9.5 and it works for me.
If PIE reports "Request not authorized by the WAP Gateway", you will need to change the user-agent to anything you can think of using "Advanced Config" tool (thanks to dsixda for suggesting this). I had set it to HTCP3452_Mozilla/4.0 under Advanced Config -> Internet Explorer -> User Agent Custom Base.
I think Airtel has intentionally blocked Mozilla/4.0 user-agent on WM phones. It may be that they cannot restrict Windows Mobile based phones from accessing websites on standard HTTP. On other phones I had tried, I could not get other sites to work with the same settings.
Enjoy Airtel Live for free.
first of all the easy way for all airtel settings is to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427092
and the Airtel is not 100% free.
they hv blocked the most popular servers like gmail, orkut, indiatimes, yahoo. and also u can not transfer more than 2mb data at a single page or file.
Are there any charges for using the Airtel Live service?
Like downloading weather updates for your rom?

Right, I will take the risk.
(I don't suppose you know the code for 'Deactivating' Airtel Live if they do charge? I had a bad run in with !dea and I want to cover all my bases before starting. I am on Prepaid.)

Does Airtel Live work on HTC Touch P3450 ??
Hi eshwarn...
After a lot of survey on net, I decided to buy HTC Touch P3450, bcoz i wasvery much impressed with it.. But just yesterday I read on a forum that it does not support FREE Airtel live, But supports CHARGED Mobile office.. Also Airtel customer care told me the same. so i was disappointed. I held my decision of purchase..
But now after going through your post, I am happy that i can use Airtel Live. Just want to confirm that, you have tested it on P3452.. Will the same setting work for P3450 as well or not.. If is does, I will go immediately and buy the handset... So I request for your prompt reply..
If there is some different settings for Touch P3450, then please post the same.. I will be really thankful to you..

I have used the cab provided by krishan2207 and I am getting charged for Airtel Live. I am on Prepaid and using a Maharashtra card (you might get different results for other circles).
I am going to try inputting the settings as given by eshwarn. Let's see if I get charged?
EDIT: I am being charged even manually entering the settings as given by eshwarn. I guess Airtel Maharashtra have figured out the settings and are charging.
Hi charusen...
I am having airtel postpaid connection in bangalore. I was about to buy HTC touch, but i came to know about this Airtel Live issue..
Please reply if you (or any of your friends) get any luck on getting Airtel Live for free on HTC Touch.. Its the only issue i have delayed buying Touch

Hi Kalpesh
None of my friends use a WM phone (they prefer some backward brand called 'Nokia' - is that a china mobile?)
Different circles might have different results re free Airtel Live access, but to let you know by my expereince, I got charged for using both the setting version (manually entering and cab). This looks like a dead end for me (at least for the Maharashtra and Goa circle).
Good look in finding someone in your circle.

u can get airtel live free on touch across all India on both pre and postpaid connections .
Subscribing to Airtel Live is free (as in there is no daily/monthly fee) BUT when you start downloading content, you start getting charged.
I input the above settings; started Google Maps and was charged for downloading the information. Same with getting weather updates for touchflo. I hope you guys are not getting charged for content downloaded?
I am on airtel postpaid and it works fine on my HTC Touch Elfin (P3542).
It used to work for me on the stock ROM and it is working for me on Onyx 3.0 ROM as well. Use Krishan's customized Network Wizard posted here.

If they charge me, I shall screw them as it was their customer care who told me that it will not work on HTC Touch (infact all WM powered phone).
Why should I pay for what as per them does not work!!!
I even tried Krishan's cab.
I would check my balance before starting, load up a Google Maps page then disconnect and check my balance again.
Airtel would be deducting me 30paise, 60paise etc... depending on how big the page is.
Even tried it with updating the weather on touchflo. Same thing, money would get deducted from the balance.
Keep an eye out on your bills, if Airtel have figured out this bypass, they might start charging you guys as well.
Good Luck
guys from 2003 i m using it for free on my prepaid connection. my balance remain intact.
HI
I have touch P3452
I have tried both methods, steps suggested by eshwarn and .cab file from krishnan.... option of cab file does not work but 1st option works. I can browse thru airtel live... Mine is postpaid connection and i m yet to get monthly bill wherein i can check if i m being charged...
But the biggest problem is, once i switch of device of change SIM card, all settings are lost and 'airtel live' connection does not show up.... Its really very troublesome to manually enter setting on every power up..
Pls suggest solution for this.
I wud also want to know, which sites are CHARGED under FREE airtel live.. (yahoo and google are charge.. but is orkut also charged?? what r charges ??)
this trick doest work with airtel kerala circle
Hey Friends...I was using Airtel Live to access other sites and sync my office mail to my Touch. I called up the customer care today & asked them. They said that you will be able to access other websites using Airtel Live but you will be charged 30paise/20kb downloaded...Am from Chennai...Have to check out if this is correct in my next billing cycle..I am a postpaid user...

Hi All,
Just wanna share a solution to a problem that had me frustrated for months trying to get sms working properly on my phone, especially after rom flashes.
This solution worked for me but I offer no guarantee to anybody wants to give this a try. Don't worry, it's nothing high level so it won't brick your phone or FC the hell outta ya.
## Edit: I know that most of you can set the SMS message centre number via Messaging app>Settings>SMSC number. For me, I can't do that cos for some reason, the ROM i'm using somehow does not have that setting option in the messaging app, I don't know why cos that's up to the ROM dev. So I used the dialer codes to access that setting instead. Either way works, whichever you feel is more accessible.
*Note: The SMSC number used in my example is for Singapore Singtel users only. For other telcos or even people from other countries, please find out your SMS service number in the list below first before trying out the steps below. The method will work only if you have the correct service number from your telco.
If you have the same problems as me:
Can receive SMSes
Can receive/send MMSes
Can surf Internet/No issues with data/3G working perfectly fine
Simply just CANNOT send /reply any SMSes
...then do the following:
Go to your dialer
Key in *#*#4636#*#*
From the menu, choose Phone Information
Scroll down the page until you see an item called "SMSC:" with a textbox right beside it
Tap on the textbox and key in the numbers: 06915669917777
Tap on the Update button
Exit the page using the back key or home button
Try sending or replying to a SMS. There you have it, it should work.
## I wished to compile a list of SMSC numbers of any telco of any country. Combined with the method above, you get a viable solution to what it seems to be a frustrating problem for some of us here. Feel free to contribute your SMSC info here and I will periodically amend the listing accordingly. If this solution still doesn't work for you then I can only say that I'm sorry, there's only so much one can provide. Hopefully you can find your solution elsewhere in the XDA universe, I'm sure there will be something for you.

Why on earth did you not read further? I mentioned that the solution is for Singapore Singtel users only because the SMSC number that I indicated is from Singtel. I do not know what SMSC number that the other telcos are using SO, I quote myself again:

For the sake of pampered readers like you, I have amended my note in the post so that you don't have to waste kilojoules of energy to read. This solution can be used anywhere in the world. The only differing factor is the SMSC number used by your respective telco. That, is for you to find out. Therefore, I'm not restricting the solution to only Singapore Singtel users.
If anyone of you is kind enough to post your telco's SMSC number here, I will gladly compile a list.
Well yes OP is right but its a standard reply to all with SMS problem check your Message Centre settings posted here since the dawn of SGS2 .
List of numbers sounds good but those with problems wont search and wont read OP took months to find a well posted solution .
I say that as i have just answered exact same SMS question again .

Yes you are probably right. But I do not see any sticky on this issue. And there are plenty of feedback from pple trying to find solutions but only found questions unanswered.
I was just thinking if my OP can be sticky that probably it can help in needless searching.
Stickies would be needed for every single item on SGS2 starting with the On button .
This thread will be lost within days so no long term help .

But the SMSC number i used can also be wrong, so if anyone can tell me the SMSC number of tata docomo-india then i will confirm it if its a sim card problem or SMSC

Hi sahibunlimited, sorry to hear u have this problem too. As I have mentioned in OP, you might want to enquire about the correct SMSC number from your telco first before attempting this fix, in your case calling up tata docomo will be your best bet in getting the accurate info.
Once you get that info, you might also want to post it here so that it might also help others in your region who could encounter the same problem as well. I will gladly add your info to my listing.

any more of you out there willing to contribute your info here?
I will just need your telco name and SMSC number. If you don't know how to get the SMSC number, you can acces it via Messaging app>Settings>SMSC.
OR alternatively, you can go to your dialer and key in *#*#4636#*#*. Scoll down until you see the SMSC item with a textbox beside it. Hit the refresh button and if you are one of those who did not have any problems with SMSC before, you should see a lengthy number appearing in the textbox. That will be your SMSC number.
I appreciate all that can contribute some input here.
A fellow Singtel user here so cant help you with any input. Just wanna thank you for making an effort to help ppl that may have such problem in the future!
Had a similar problem once on Aokp/Aosp roms, I switched to Samsung rom and SMS used to be sent but on Aosp it didn't work. The smsc was the problem but it couldn't be changed using the dialer code. It used to give me some error. The solution I later found was to go to the Samsung messaging app , put in my messaging center number and voila! It works just perfect in any rom now, including aosp roms
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Im using Maxis in Malaysia, and your solution Solved my problem, thx :good:, Im just wondering since the no given 0120000015 is without the international prefix which is +6 , will sms's still work overseas or even in Sg whilst roaming?
I tried keying in +60120000015 but it says input error, only accepts the no without the prefix.
Just realised that I have to repeat the steps by rekeying the number in whenever i reboot my phone?? Any ideas??

sorry for the late late reply.
as far as i know, without the prefix it still works bcos when overseas u will be roaming and the overseas telco will recognise the smsc number by identifying your sim card locale settings, which i assume will declare the prefix that the telco should use. So no problem here
To be fair I will test it out since I'm also going away for a vacation soon.
As to you having to rekey the numbers, actually you do not have to. After keying in the dialer code, when you are in the interface, you may just see an empty box beside the SMSC field but you just need to hit Refresh and after 1-2s you should see the SMSC number displayed in the box. I dunno why its always showing an empty box but you shouldn't worry. As long you enter the correct number and update the first time, it should always be there.

Yeah I'm on a different phone on a different plan but it seems like it's improper apn settings and wrong smsc settings as well that causes this. Kind of a pain.
