Hi All,
Today I went to my local 3 store to test my O2 Xda Exec/Jasjar (universal) with a 3 simcard. This is what I discovered.
The 3services settings allows you only to access planet3. 3netaccess Settings is to be able to surf the net on your phone. You will have to manually switch beween the settings depending on what you want to do.
Question to you all out there...... has anybody worked out how to get video streaming with 3 ? When it came to accessing Mobile TV, I could not get it to work, I got a message "your device is not supported for this service". This was the case for all video streaming on planet3. I was only able to view text stuff.
My initial thought about it is that there are file format issues, remebering that 3 offer no phones which are windows based? I am thinking to try it again using pocketTV software. I use this at the moment instead of crappy windows media player.
So has anybody resolved the streaming issue?
Must be @ least 1 aussie using 3 network here?
Must be @ least 1 aussie using 3 network here?
guinevere,
I am using Three Australia as well and like yourself would like to be able to view Three content. I have posted on several forums and the only thing constructive I have found out is apparently a certificate is required on the device to access Three video content. I have also been told that Three are planning on releasing a WM based device in the near future which may help our cause. Any information you could find would be great news to a lot of people who use Three in Australia.
Hi Shane, great to hear from you.
Thats interesting I have not heard that yet, but it hmakes sense. I Dont have a 3 sim yet, still in research stage, thinking of getting one anyway till I fnd a better option.
Perhaps we could use this thread to collect info for Universal use with australian networks as there is not much happening at the aussie3g forum for us.
Do you have any info about using universal on optus, vodaphone or telstra, I have not tested there sims yet.
Also shane, have you got MMS working?
Guinevere,
I don't use MMS so I can't comment on whether it works or not, but a lot of people seem to be posting that it has issues. An interesting sideline I was told by my Corporate Rep from Three is that a senior Three official in Australia has taken a shine to the Universal and is using it rather than a Three handset - so maybe some development might soon follow!
Like yourself, Three support don't want to know anything as soon as they hear that we are not using a Three handset.
I think it's a great idea to use this forum as a meeting place for Aussie Three users with WM devices.
None of my colleagues or customers at present have gone 3G but I have a customer who is looking to join the Telstra network. The customer has been told that Video content will work OK on the Jasjar from Telstra. (As yet the device has not been approved officially for use on the Telstra network -unbelievable I know!).
I will post updates once I find out anything new.
Shane
Hi shane any news?
I have since got myself a 3 sim.....so far i am enjoyin it, just using it for basic things like reading tex news and other text stuff offered on planet3, also its good now with there My3 section where you can view your usage. I know also use it to check my pop3 email for when I am not in the office.
the only things still not functioning is the MMS and video streaming....which I have made up by converting all my favorite film clips and movies into divx's to play on my Exec
Thus far MMS and Video Streaming does not work on XDA Exec. Which is kind of silly since our phones are like 6 billion times better than what is in those 3 shops.

Telstra MMS Settings
I know this is an old thread, but some people may still be after the Telstra MMS Configuration for the Universal.
Under Connections, you need to rename "My Work" Network as Telstra MMS, and set up a new modem connection:
Enter Name of Connection as "Telstra.MMS" and select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G) for the modem. The access point is "telstra.mms.mnc001.mcc505.gprs". Leave username etc blank.
Next, open your inbox (messaging) and click on Menu/Tools/Options. Click on MMS to retrieve the MMS Configuration. On the preferences tab check "Retrieve Messages Immediately", "OK to download when roaming", and "Save sent messages" as you prefer with all other boxes blank.
Click the "Servers" tab. If you don't have Telstra there already, click on New. The Server Name should be Telstra, the Gateway is 10.1.1.155, and the port number 9201. Enter the server address as "http://mmsc.telstra.com:8002", and select "Telstra MMS" under Connect Via. Click OK until you are back to the Today Screen.
That works for my Jasjar on Telstra. Hope this helps somebody.

Hi,
I just unlocked my XDA II and I'm using a Vodafone SIM in it. How do I utilize GPRS, WAP and Modem connectivity with this SIM? Is it possible to get rid of all the O2 crap installed on it, i.e. "clean" it up properly?
A new skin would be cool!
Cheers,

Thomas
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=11
you are by no means the first who ask this question
And what's the answer? Is it possible at all?
--
Thomas
yes it possible the xda is not limited to o2 in anyway
you just have to set it up
to do this you need to know the connection point your provider use for mms, grps and wap (if you also want that)
there are many posts which explane how you set it up in the network forum
but if you cant find any i could explane it step by step i suppose
i dont know much about o2's settings but if it's today stuff you can turn it off under today in settings
otherwise you can always make your own rom at www.yorth.net and get a more pure non o2 custom rom
you can get tons of skins as in today skins on many sites
and at yorth.net you can also get phone skins or have explaned how to make them yourself
Works fine now, thanks. Vodafone's acces point is named 'internet' (which was easy to read off the SIM), and the user/passwd is web/web (had to call them up to get that). So GPRS works fine. Needs some more info to set a Modem connection, but it shouldn't be hard.
The reason for my original posting, was that I was lead to believe that O2 had "locked" the device, which is not the case at all.
Anyway, thanks for info. Btw, the link you mention does not work...
Cheers,

Ttm, I'm confused. I am in the same situation as you (xda II with vodafone sim), yet i cannot connect GPRS using your settings. The settings I connect with are APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk with the same user/password as you. This connects fine yet i cannot send or receive emails.
Am i doing something wrong? have i missed something in the setup? what do you reckon? :?:
cheers, coj
well one thing is to be able send mails and another is to get mail working
can you get IE working ?
Yes, IE is working fine and dandy
then i doubt it's a grps issue
if you put in all the mail settings like
pop3 and smpt if you used those protocols
and it still dont work with your type of mail protocol
then i would contact the phone company to see if they rout
your type of mails
Does the v1605 (tytn) support vodafone live
various operators at vodafone say it does while a couple of others there says it does not.
Has anyone got a v1605 and accessed vodafone live at all?
yes, it does. Just point your browser to wsp://live.vodafone.com
Vodafone live
I dont think it works tried it with that address.
Ive tried it on my v1605 and although I can browse the rest of the net for some reason the vodafone live site stays blank. Cant figure it it out and nobody seems to have the answer for it.
I don't know about UK, but in Spain you need two separate connections. One for data (no proxy server, gives u public IP address) and another one for VF Live, which uses an HTTP proxy server and gives u a private address behind a NAT. The VF Live address above only works if you are behind the proxy.
Here you can see some screenshots of the configuration if you scroll down.
Even connecting with the WAP settings, and changing the agent identiy in the registry to look like a Nokia6630, I just get text menus with no graphics. This also means I'm unable to connect to mobile TV.
Has anyone managed to get further than this on the hermes?
Cheers

I spoke to a cust svce rep on Friday. Athough she was quite helpful, she had no knowledge about this handset and had to speak to a colleague in technical.
Anyway, it turns out that Live! is NOT supported on this handset, meaning that Mobile TV will not work at all.
I'm not happy, as one of the main reasons I moved to VF for for the TV...
Not supported does not necessarily mean we cannot get it working... Some people on the forums here have had some success on the jasjar - don't give up hope just yet

I cannot do it works. The other problem is that your configuration "kill" my device connecting my corporate exchange, that use a VPN.
I live in the US and have just bought an o2 Atom Exec. I have T-Mobile as my carrier but my Atom can not keep the signal for more than a few minutes at a time. The configuration Wizard can't help because it doesn't show the US as an option. I try to select T-Mobile but even when I am connected it won't show the name of the network. I am very upset - I spent alot of money on this phone but I can't use it. Can someone please help me configure it to connect to the T-Mobile Network?
I also have T-Mobile (USA) and have used these settings on a I-Mate Jam and now an Atom Life. It took me a while to gather this information, but now everything is working perfect. Here are all the network settings:
Connections: My ISP (Start->Settings->Connections)
Add new modem conection-> name->T-Zones
Cellular line (GPRS)
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
User, Pass., Domain: leave blank
Advanced: no change
Connections: My ISP (Start->Settings->Connections)
Add new modem conection-> name->PictureMessaging
Cellular line (GPRS)
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
User, Pass., Domain: leave blank
Advanced: no change
Connections: My Work Network
Set up my Proxy Server: Check both boxes
Proxy Server: 216.155.165.50
Advanced:
HTTP: 216.155.165.50:8080
WAP: 216.155.165.50:9201
Socks: 216.155.165.50:1080
Connections: My Work Network
Add new modem conection-> name->T-Mobile WAP
Cellular line (GPRS)
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
User, Pass., Domain: leave blank
Advanced: no change
This will give you Internet browsing, access to T-Zones (in Internet Explorer the address you need to type is: wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com) and MMS capabilities
For MMS, you also need to set the following:
In Messaging, choose options, then MMS
In the Servers tab, create a new configuration called PictureMessaging
with the following settings:
Gateway: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Server: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: My ISP
This should work for any WM device and T-Mobile USA.
Have fun!
You are so cool, frenchygeek. I am very grateful for your reply and all your help. I made all the changes you recommended, except that I can not figure out how to add MMS because in Messaging options MMS is not listed. I can't add it because it requires an email address to add an account. Can you walk me through that?
I also found somewhere in this forum instructions to make a registry entry to change the default network to my local network. Now it no longer comes up trying to run the Wizard (with my default as Austraila with every soft reset. Do you need that information? (I am in my office but once I am home I can send it if you like.)
Anyway, I made some of these changes earlier today and the ones above just 5 minutes ago ... so now I'll see what happens. Thank you SOOOO much.

Cinamon,
Go to Start->Messaging or Start->Programs->Messaging or click on the Messaging line on the "Today" screen.
When in there, you may have a selection screen with the various messaging options you may have such as Text Message, MMS, Outlook or your corporate or personal email. Click on MMS. If you don't have this screen, then go to the next step.
Click on Menu->Tools->Options
At the screen which says "Tap an account to change settings", click on MMS. You will see 4 tabs (Preferences, Blacklist, Servers, About). Go to the server tab and make the changes that I outlined in my previous post. Accept everything, close and do a soft reset.
Voila!
BTW, yes, I would be interested in the information regarding the change on the register to place T-Mobile as a default provider. I never got around to do that.
Merci beaucoup.
Hi again, FrenchyGeek,
I'm so grateful to you - I have been begging for help from the manufacturer and the distributor but you and the other forum member are the only two sources of help I've had. Seems like someone else would be desparate for this information too.
I'm still not sure about MMS - MMS does not show up in options on my phone. I finally got to the MMS settings screen by going to the messaging screen of one of my email accounts, clicking on GOTO, choosing MMS (it does appear there) and then choosing tools -> options. It is not set up as yours is - I have to fill in :
Active Profile (A dropdown but I choose NEW)
From there I have to fill in
Profile Name:
MMSC: I typed in http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Data Connection: (a drop down and I choose T Mobile)
Gateway: (a drop down with only WAP1.0 Gateway and WAP2.0 Gateway to choose from)
IP Address: (I typed in 216.155.174.84)
Port: (I typed in 8080)
Do you think that will work?
OK, default networkconfiguration:
In the HKCU/AutoConfig/Network, find XPath string n change it to your network operator number. You can see your operator number (5 digits usually - mine was 31026) when you launch autoconfig, next to the "Detected from SIM" text. You can also see the operator number from the DetectNet or NetworkID keys in HKCU/AutoConfig/Network.
I still have trouble with it dropping signal or trying to connect to Australia. I wonder if there is anyway to delete all the overseas configurations so it can't find them again. Also, I drop signal everytime I connect via USB to my PC. Do you have these issues?
Another annoyance - the battery doesn't last long for me at all - I am definitely a power user, which is why I wanted the higher processing speed which lead me to the Atom Exec in the first place. Are there any extended batteries that you're aware of?
Thanks alot!
Susan
Thanks again.
Hello Cinamon,
I am using the new O2 Atom Life and I installed the WM6 ROM upgrade. Are you still on WM5? That may explain the differences, although I'm not sure why the MMS profile doesn't show up on yours.
The screen where you can find this is the first screen that shows up when you click on "Options" in "Messaging". It says "Options" at the top, "Tap an account to change settings" below, with a square containing "New Account...", "Text Messages", "MMS", "Outlook E-Mail", and possibly other accounts if you set them up yourself. Below are two buttons: "Security..." and "Signature...". The only way to properly set up MMS is to click "MMS" on this screen and then follow the procedure in my previous posts.
I also have an "Autoconfigurator" which shows the countries that are supported (Australia, Bahrain, China, etc.) but it doesn't launch automatically. When you go through a hard reset, it asks you if you want to run it, but you have the option to say no. After that, it doesn't come back. If it's in the ROM, I don't think you can delete it.
I don't have any of the problems you outlined. My phone actually works really well, except for one major flaw. I don't get the voicemail notification icon to show up when I have a new voicemail. I only get the missed call icon (if my phone is on). I opened a separate thread on this site but got no help so far. By searching on this site and others, I can tell that some WM phones have such a problem depending on the Tel-Co, but I can't seem to find the solution. Do you have any problem with that feature?
If you Google "O2 Atom battery", you can find after market batteries that actually provide longer charge. They void the warranty, so be careful.
Thanks for the default network configuration! What software do you use to edit the registry?
Take care!
Still No Luck
Hi Frenchygeek,
I have no problem with voicemail (on the few times my phone connects).
I use SKTools for editing the registry. Sometimes I use a freeware register editor which can only be used from your PC - I can send you that if you like. I know alot of people use Commander (also Freeware) but for me these two programs are more friendly, and SKTools has lots of tweaks and other cool utilities.
My phone is the Atom Exec and there is no update at the moment for WM6 so I am stuck with WM5. I can not get my phone to stay connected for more than 5 minutes at a time. It drops the line over and over again and is really unusable (except for games and mp3s etc ... smile ....) I thought I might reset to factory settings and begin again with your instructions but I can't find the option to do a hard reset - do you know how to do that? I am very frustrated as it was expensive and it's useless to me as is. I asked the seller if I could exchange or upgrade it and I'm waiting for his answer. Maybe the Life with WM6 would do the trick. Anyway, I have had no service at all for about 6 hours although I have tried every trick in the book and then some. Are you using code 31026 or are you in a different region in the US? (I am in Virginia)
Thanks again for your help.
Susan
Hey,
To hard reset, you need to press the stylus in the reset hole at the bottom of the phone while you press on the on/off button. Keep it this way until you see a message on the screen, which asks you to confirm the hard reset by pressing the green and red button simultaneously.
I think that it will do the trick. My Atom Life works perfectly fine with T-Mobile. I'm in California and my Tel-Co number is also 31026. It shows up on the Auto Configurator screen ("Detected from SIM: 31026").
If it wasn't for the lack of voicemail notification icon, I would be happy. I'm tempted to reinstall WM5 and see if that makes a difference. But I read that WM6 is so much better than WM5, so I really don't know what to do. Support at O2 basically gave me the finger. They said their phones are intended for the Asian Market...
Anyway, the Atom Life is a more recent phone compared to the Exec. It's a little bigger, but the specs are much better. It's much more expensive though...(I paid a little over $800 for mine).
Have fun!
Hello Again FrenchyGeek,
I did a hard reset and put all the settings in that you gave me, reset the autoconfig to 31026, and things are much better. I still lose signal a few times every hour but it does usually recover quickly, although there are times when I have to manually search for the signal as the phone doesn't do the search itself.
I do need to do something about the battery, however, and will follow your suggestion. I use the phone as an MP3 player and the battery drains in a couple of hours.
It must be frustrating that no one can help you with the voice mail problem. My voicemail notification works perfectly. Wish I could help. If you can think of a way for me to search my registry for the right setting let me know and I'll give it a try.
I still don't understand why the O2 company is not more responsive to us Americans .... it's a big market for them to tap into.
Susan
Hi Cinamon,
Just got an idea for the problem you're experiencing.
Under Start->Settings->Connections, I have a program called Band Switch.
In there you can select your network type: Auto, GSM, UTMS
And you can select your Band: Any, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, UMTS 1900 and UMTS 2100.
If you have such a program, try to play around with the settings and see if it makes a difference. It's possible that you when you lose the signal temporarily the phone gets lost. If you force it to a certain band, then it might be more stable.
I don't know for sure, but it's worth a try.
Cheers
Hi Frencygeek,
I do have such a setting and I have repeatedly set it to 1900 (because that's what T-Mobile operates on) but it continually resets itself to tri-band. I wonder if anyone here can tell me how to make 1900 the default. I notice that it connects to GPRS but I have no phone service - although I can check my email and browse the web. In those cases I have to manually go into settings and tell it to connect to t-zones under my ISP. I think somehow it is defaulting to the YES OPUS settings of Australia everytime it loses signal, and I don't know how to direct it to my settings. Maybe I should try a new thread and see if anyone can help, although it does seem that support for those of us in the Western Hemisphere is sadly lacking.
As for your voice mail, I'm sure this is too obvious to suggest, but have you tried changing the notification type? Maybe a different ringtone or change to vibrate or play with that? Strange that is the one feature that works for me - but I certainly need it since no one can call me at least 50% of the time.
I do own an MDA and if I were not so hard headed I would use that ... but I'm having a hard time giving up as I do like the phone (and did spend $500 on it, although it came with extras like a miniSD card, bluetooth headset, etc.
Hello Cinamon,
Someone else in another thread suggested that I upgrade the Radio Rom to version 2.69.11 or 2.19.11. I have done some research and found that it should work with T-Mobile. The only problem is, I don't know where to find a radio rom that will work with my Atom Life and I don't know how to install it. I have read too many horrors stories about people "bricking" their phone after trying to flash their ROM. So, I'm a little hesitant, but I would do it if someone answer both my questions. Also, I don't know what version of radio rom I have. On WM6, System information looks different. My Radio version says: "AL1-KLNC-2.3.40CT-070424-2. I have no idea what that means.
Which brings me to my other suggestion for your problem. Maybe you could update your radio rom and things might just start working for you. Just a suggestion!
Hmmm .... I'm willing to try ... but how do I find an upgrade for my Radio Rom? I see there is an upgrade for the Atom Exec - in Chinise only. ;->
Any luck with voicemail?
Hi Again,
I have tried the band but still I lose signal much too often and it still takes forever to establish a connection again. Worse, it often shows the E in the top bar, which makes me think I have phone service, only to discover that I have only GPRS and have missed a bunch of calls. I contacted the person I bought it from and asked for an exchange - he does not sell the Life but I offered to pay the difference to upgrade to the Orbit, which has a quad band. I'm still awaiting his reply.
Any luck with your voice mail?
Susan
hi cin,
the o2 atom exec are only tri band gsm. i live in apac and had a similar problem over here when i bought a smartphone in the US. it was because carriers still prefer the lower frequency gsm as a default. coverage for the higher freq was spotty for me even when i forced a freq. check with t mobile
by the way, i have an atom exec and when i am in the US i am on cingular and have no issues with dropping. sorry.
I just got this X01HT(Hermes200) with WM6 (Schap's 3.30c ROM) from eBay, and I am new to this forum. I am thinking to sign up with AT&T's MediaNet Max plan. Since it is NOT a Cingular 8525 phone "officially" supported by AT&T, I suspect the settings to access MediaNet and Cingular Video could be different, and if I call AT&T, they will not help because I am not using the phone they support. Could anybody help with the settings, or is there already a link (I searched and did not find it)? Thanks!

Thanks Mike for the links. But they are for Cingular (AT&T) 8525 which AT&T supports (meaning with Media Net URL already coded in the Today screen and in the AT&T ROM ? etc.) , and mine is X01HT with a non-AT&T ROM. I copied Cingular Video's URL from my son's AT&T-supported phone onto the PIE Address Bar on my X01HT, and the return error message said "CV is only available on supported 3G phones." But I know for a fact that my X01HT is a 3G phone...
Trying to follow the instructions on the second link, I did not even have Media Net on the "Select Networks" list so I could not go any further. I must be missing something and obviously a hopeless newbie. Perhaps some links specifically for using X01HT(Hermes200) with AT&T's Media Net would help to propel me into the wonderful world of MediaNetitng...
There are all different way to use the X01HT on AT&T network. If you don't mind use WM5, the esaliest way is to just DL the latest rom for AT&T - http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html.
If you want WM6, then you have to setup the MediaNet connection manuelly.

For cingular video..you need to make sure your proxy setting are correct. However I would recommend that you flash your phone with vpg's rom...and all will work for you :

OK, i have big problems with my MMS. My media net works perfent, the internet and Internet sharing, but i cant send MMS. It starts to send and then a warning that cano't send the massage. Tha text masseging works good, i have try installing different ROM'S and the problem paesist. Can some one help me please, Thanks
I have try all posible and logical thing, please no simple and very logical things.
I bought a sim-free htc touch hd a few weeks ago, bought an o2 pay&go sim, added the unlimited web blot-on, and thought everything would be just fine. But I was wrong.
It worked fine on the small number of occasions I used it before yesterday.
Since I added the web bolt-on, the automatic connection settings no longer work and I get the following message every time I try to set up the data connection:
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again.

Other than trying the automatic connection setup feature a few times, I've also tried manual settings. Currently my settings are as follows:
Modem selected: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point name: mobile.o2.co.uk
User name: O2web
Password: some 16 digit long network automatic password
Domain: no value entered
Advanced settings:
TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP address
Servers: Use server-assigned addresses
Click to collapse
I've tried using a different username and password, same the ones listed on most setup guides.
I've tried entering a manual DNS, and Alt DNS server address under advanced settings.
I've tried setting up the connection from scratch.
And I've tried doing a soft reset followed by restoring it to factory settings.
Currently I am using ROM version 1.14.4005.3, and have nothing else installed on the device. I do not currently have access to anything other than a mac, so cannot use any windows-related troubleshooting devices.
Absolutely anything you could suggest would be great. Rang o2, but they were unhelpful. Thanks chaps.

Since I added the web bolt-on, the automatic connection settings no longer work and I get the following message every time I try to set up the data connection:
Other than trying the automatic connection setup feature a few times, I've also tried manual settings. Currently my settings are as follows:

Those are the O2 contract settings. PAYG settings are different and one will not work with the others' settings. You'll have to scoure the O2 website to find the manual settings for PAYG (or PAG as O2 calls it).
A word of warning, however, after just coming off P&G and onto contract, and thus knowing the limitations of both, your mobile web with P&G will be severely crippled.
Unless O2 have changed their settings on the server side, the only web program that will work will be Opera. Email client and youtube won't work as P&G is limited to port 8080 (HTML) only...
This is something that really annoyed me when I was with P&G because I couldn't use my mobile's email client because it just could not connect.
sorry, rant/warning over! Summary: you need P&G specific settings, you can find them (eventually) on the O2 website - keep trying makes and models until you find one that gives you the manual settings (I can't give more help than this as I had to do the exact same thing myself!). HTC auto-connect wizard only has contract settings in it. Also be warned that potentially only Opera will work once you get the settings!

Thank you so much. I may love you. In a non-gay way. Anywho, I've found out how to do it. It's extremely simple now that you've pointed me toward the problem.
Go to Settings > Connections > Manage existing connections
Then under the 'Modem' tab, edit your connection.
All you have to do is change the access point name from 'mobileweb.o2.co.uk' to 'payango.o2.co.uk'.
Very simple.
And thanks for the warning about the limitations. I might take that up with them, since it is not mentioned when purchasing the web upgrade or sim. I'll test it out first though.

It's a general thing with PAYG really, telcos want you to have contracts - make more money from you that way! all PAYG SIMs go through proxies for mobile web connections, and almost all the PAYG proxies are limited to 8080 only.
Then again, it sounds like you didn't use the proxy settings so we'll see what happens w.r.t non html usage!
When you get a chance, could you please have a play with trying to use Gmail on IMAP and/or the YouTube and/or weather panel and report back whether it works or gets timed out? I'd really like to see how you get on!
As I already have many phone contracts in the family (that I'm paying for ), I got one of those o2 simplicity 30 day rolling contract things, the cheapest one for £10, then added £7.50 web bolt on, that lets you do whatever you like (you tube, mail etc all works fine), I thinks its also 150mins and 300txts.
Tmob do one as well that I think £20 for more mins, Unlimited txts and free web (special offer at the moment). It is a better deal than the o2 for only £2.50 more, but I have better o2 reception where I am, and also they use the Edge network.

OK, I've played about with these a bit, and they seem to be working fine. Weather works perfectly, as does my Gmail account on IMAP.
The youtube application is extremely slow, but I'm assuming that is more general, than a specific PAYG problem.

I've got their 'Your Country' SIM pack, which is purely top-up, but they deduct the 7.50 form my credit each month. It's great for me, since you get free minutes for calls to overseas whenever you top-up - damn useful for an Irishman.
Can't afford 20 pound every single month unfortunately. Student life (ignoring the fact that I managed to get a HD).
Thanks again chaps.
