Does the v1605 (tytn) support vodafone live
various operators at vodafone say it does while a couple of others there says it does not.
Has anyone got a v1605 and accessed vodafone live at all?
yes, it does. Just point your browser to wsp://live.vodafone.com
Vodafone live
I dont think it works tried it with that address.
Ive tried it on my v1605 and although I can browse the rest of the net for some reason the vodafone live site stays blank. Cant figure it it out and nobody seems to have the answer for it.
I don't know about UK, but in Spain you need two separate connections. One for data (no proxy server, gives u public IP address) and another one for VF Live, which uses an HTTP proxy server and gives u a private address behind a NAT. The VF Live address above only works if you are behind the proxy.
Here you can see some screenshots of the configuration if you scroll down.
Even connecting with the WAP settings, and changing the agent identiy in the registry to look like a Nokia6630, I just get text menus with no graphics. This also means I'm unable to connect to mobile TV.
Has anyone managed to get further than this on the hermes?
Cheers
Si
I spoke to a cust svce rep on Friday. Athough she was quite helpful, she had no knowledge about this handset and had to speak to a colleague in technical.
Anyway, it turns out that Live! is NOT supported on this handset, meaning that Mobile TV will not work at all.
I'm not happy, as one of the main reasons I moved to VF for for the TV...
Not supported does not necessarily mean we cannot get it working... Some people on the forums here have had some success on the jasjar - don't give up hope just yet

I cannot do it works. The other problem is that your configuration "kill" my device connecting my corporate exchange, that use a VPN.

Hi,
I had a quick search but my problem persists, and please forgive me if this is silly, but I'm new to this Windows Mobile Stuff!
I'm trying to get Vodafone Live working on my Exec. I can get to the Vodafone Live homepage but it is text only, there are no photos or any 3G native content/options like video downloads.
I have set my access point as "internet" and username/password fields as "wap" but still no joy. What am I missing?
I know there is a CAB file on the i-mate website with the settings but cause I have the Exec I can't download it, please help!!!!!!
Unfortunately I don't think this can be done.
As with users who converted the v800 into the z800 even with the correct settings Vodafone live no longer recognises the device as 3g-live capable.
They use the HTTP user agent string to tailor the page to the device and if that changes (which it did V800->Z800) to one not currently used by a vodafone supplied device then the basic WAP style plaintext site is offered.
There's no way to spoof the user agent, don't forget the VPA IV isn't out yet, and even when it does arrive the user agent will likely be tweaked by the bespoke firmware, so even then you'll need to flash it with the horrid Vodafone red styling to see the correct Live site...
Incidentally, all you need to do to set up Vodafone 3G is use the APN name 'Internet' - the username and password fields are redundant, they can see the device is on their network and from the HLR I believe will already know you've access to 3G services so you just need to specify which APN you're looking to use.
I have a JJ and a 3G Vodafone SIM. The .cab files are just for the APN setup etc and like you I cant get the Vodafone content. It must have a URL but its not the default Live favorite on my JJ
No, it's the fact that the device passes a string to the webserver containing the identity of the user agent, and Vodafone don't sell a jasjar or an Exec, so don't have pages tailored for it.
Is this situation likely to change when the VDA IV get released?
if the VPA IV has a different user agent string then only if you use the voda firmware or someone works out how to customise them to that degree, otherwise no.
I HAVE XDA EXEC Working On Vodafone 3G & GRPRS
I have this working on my XDA EXEC.
Make Sure your phone is unlocked for Vodafone
Sim.
The access point is "internet" as you said, however the username and password are both "web" not "wap". Leave everything else as default.
tried your suggestion - no luck. i think the APN is for contract vodafone customers. PAYG has a diferent APN.
anyway, when you say it words, are you getting the full live! screens? i can only see the text (very wap looking) screens, and no links to entertainment, which i can see if i use my nokia 6330.
Is it possible to surf the Vodafone Live with the phone? Can any swedish dudes confirm that?
Sorry, cannot use live.vodafone.com it seams. All I get is a white screen with text live.vodafone.com when I go there with IE.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29595
can you try to do that?
For voda in UK (maybe same for other countries), there are 2 connections required - one for internet, and one for wap. You need the connection details for both (set wap as the default work connection and internet as ISP)
the url for live is not http://live.vodafone.com, it is wsp://live.vodafone.com
I think you ned to do as the url i posted last post. Modifie so my phone looks like for an example a vodafone live branded phone like SE V600 or any other 3G phones.
One thing i missed, you need the proxy infor for the WAP connection, and this is the connection to use for wsp://live.vodafone.com
And then i should come in on VF Live?.... Recieved the phone a few minutes ago, need to fix some utils i need on it first.
You will be able to browse the LIve! page, BUT, streamin g TV is a bit of a problem ATM :/
Sorry, been away.
I've tried setting up wap-proxy, but no success. Also tried user-agent spoofing, but I can't get it to work (I've verified correctly modified user-agent with other sites). When I browse to live.vodafone.com (http or wsp) I ony get a white page with black text "live.vodafone.com". I suspect this is the "catch-all" page where something is wrong with originating-ip or browser-tag. Please post if you find a way. Live TV would be nice.

Hi All,
Today I went to my local 3 store to test my O2 Xda Exec/Jasjar (universal) with a 3 simcard. This is what I discovered.
The 3services settings allows you only to access planet3. 3netaccess Settings is to be able to surf the net on your phone. You will have to manually switch beween the settings depending on what you want to do.
Question to you all out there...... has anybody worked out how to get video streaming with 3 ? When it came to accessing Mobile TV, I could not get it to work, I got a message "your device is not supported for this service". This was the case for all video streaming on planet3. I was only able to view text stuff.
My initial thought about it is that there are file format issues, remebering that 3 offer no phones which are windows based? I am thinking to try it again using pocketTV software. I use this at the moment instead of crappy windows media player.
So has anybody resolved the streaming issue?
Must be @ least 1 aussie using 3 network here?
Must be @ least 1 aussie using 3 network here?
guinevere,
I am using Three Australia as well and like yourself would like to be able to view Three content. I have posted on several forums and the only thing constructive I have found out is apparently a certificate is required on the device to access Three video content. I have also been told that Three are planning on releasing a WM based device in the near future which may help our cause. Any information you could find would be great news to a lot of people who use Three in Australia.
Hi Shane, great to hear from you.
Thats interesting I have not heard that yet, but it hmakes sense. I Dont have a 3 sim yet, still in research stage, thinking of getting one anyway till I fnd a better option.
Perhaps we could use this thread to collect info for Universal use with australian networks as there is not much happening at the aussie3g forum for us.
Do you have any info about using universal on optus, vodaphone or telstra, I have not tested there sims yet.
Also shane, have you got MMS working?
Guinevere,
I don't use MMS so I can't comment on whether it works or not, but a lot of people seem to be posting that it has issues. An interesting sideline I was told by my Corporate Rep from Three is that a senior Three official in Australia has taken a shine to the Universal and is using it rather than a Three handset - so maybe some development might soon follow!
Like yourself, Three support don't want to know anything as soon as they hear that we are not using a Three handset.
I think it's a great idea to use this forum as a meeting place for Aussie Three users with WM devices.
None of my colleagues or customers at present have gone 3G but I have a customer who is looking to join the Telstra network. The customer has been told that Video content will work OK on the Jasjar from Telstra. (As yet the device has not been approved officially for use on the Telstra network -unbelievable I know!).
I will post updates once I find out anything new.
Shane
Hi shane any news?
I have since got myself a 3 sim.....so far i am enjoyin it, just using it for basic things like reading tex news and other text stuff offered on planet3, also its good now with there My3 section where you can view your usage. I know also use it to check my pop3 email for when I am not in the office.
the only things still not functioning is the MMS and video streaming....which I have made up by converting all my favorite film clips and movies into divx's to play on my Exec
Thus far MMS and Video Streaming does not work on XDA Exec. Which is kind of silly since our phones are like 6 billion times better than what is in those 3 shops.

Telstra MMS Settings
I know this is an old thread, but some people may still be after the Telstra MMS Configuration for the Universal.
Under Connections, you need to rename "My Work" Network as Telstra MMS, and set up a new modem connection:
Enter Name of Connection as "Telstra.MMS" and select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G) for the modem. The access point is "telstra.mms.mnc001.mcc505.gprs". Leave username etc blank.
Next, open your inbox (messaging) and click on Menu/Tools/Options. Click on MMS to retrieve the MMS Configuration. On the preferences tab check "Retrieve Messages Immediately", "OK to download when roaming", and "Save sent messages" as you prefer with all other boxes blank.
Click the "Servers" tab. If you don't have Telstra there already, click on New. The Server Name should be Telstra, the Gateway is 10.1.1.155, and the port number 9201. Enter the server address as "http://mmsc.telstra.com:8002", and select "Telstra MMS" under Connect Via. Click OK until you are back to the Today Screen.
That works for my Jasjar on Telstra. Hope this helps somebody.
I have seen many posts but have not been able to get this to work. I have modified the line to be Nokia6800 or Nokia6300 but all I get when it is connected is the words locating at the bottom of PIE? Has anyone successfully connected to it recently and does any one have working settings for the above.
chyanmor
what do you call Vodaphone Live! ? the wap portal of your provider ?
you should tell us which provider you use so we can help you
each provider has its own settings and a different URL for the wap portal
Hi,
I am trying to the get the PIE to look up live.vodafone.co.uk. I have set the settings as in http://www.clieuk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=34134. However can't get the vodafone page to come up. First of all it said time out and since adding the proxy address in as DNS server it now says it can't locate the page. I have seen some other pages similarly suggesting the browser UA should be Nokia6630?
Any ideas
Hi chyanmor
I also read the same post on that forum and was still having difficulty. I found the default installed streaming media player (HTC Version 2.00 Build602.618) on the Vodafone v1605 UK also has an UA setting under HKLM\software\HTC\Streaming\UserAgent ....I changed the string to this Nokia6680/1.0 (Symbian OS/8.0; Nokia; Series60/2.06)/Netfront3.3 which is the same for Pocket IE. It now shows Vodafone Live with the correct colour icons, links and streams the video content including YouTube with a single click in Pocket IE.
I have searched this and other forums and never seen this key piece of info and hope it helps others ....I also hope it wasn't obvious or posted here and I never found it ......Aaaargh!
Enjoy
PS
The proxy server should not be added as a DNS entry
I can't seem to access Vodafone Live! properly on my HD2. I cannot see the full content like on my N95 phone. I just get text and a lot of missing content. I have contacted vodafone and htc but they seem to not understand. I have setup the required settings/proxy to access Vodafone live!. Is it a windows mobile issue/compatibility? Or can it be fixed? If so how?

I think you will need to set up the proxy in opera / PIE , i m not with vodafone anymore, so i m not 100% sure. But when I help my friend set up optus, opera doesnt work, need to type in "config" in the URL bar to set it up.

uncheck the proxy settings
start - settings - connections - connections - setup my proxy server -
The quickest way to access Vodafone Live on the HD2 is to change your data settings to use "WAP" instead of contract internet.

Thats correct because with those settings it can only access the vodafone live! page. Here are screen shots of what I get which is very limited compared to my Nokia N95:
With opera:
As you can see it is only displaying text and it has very limited/missing content like mobile tv for example.
Any suggestions why that is guys?
To belsj can you post screenshots of what you get when your acessing vodafone live!?

You have to go to My Vodafone and disable this "Service" from vodafone which extracts the content from the page for Phones that dose not have a real browser. After that you can surf normal.
Vodafone Live requires a proxy server to setup only in windows (except from a few third party applications which dose not use the windows settings). The proxy server is why this service is so cheap. It makes sure you can only use the HTTP Port (80) and HTTPS Port (443). All services which working over HTTP or HTTPS are working over Vodafone Live.
In example Exchange Push works because it uses HTTPS (also Google Sync because it uses the same protocol). I also able to use apps like PocketTwit or the Facebook client and can hear live Podcasts and Webstreams with Kinoma Play. Also the HTC Services like Weather or Facebook works.
It is also possible to tunnel SSH over it so you can access any port you want. But i dose not found any good SSH client which autostart, autoconnects and autoreconnect if the connection is lost and all in background.
Its also possible to use it from you Notebook when you set up you browser to use the Vodafone Live proxy server. But its server if you tune the borwsers user agent string to a mobile version, because i dont know if Vodafone review its logs if someone uses a PC Browser to surf over it since it is not allowed in the terms of use.
Make sure you setup the proxy server under connection only for HTTP and Wap not for Socks.
Vodafone live
looks like another service provider portal designed to increase their revenue from mobile data use.
