WM6 Upgrade - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey anyone know if and when WM6 comes out will there be a upgrade
to the new ppc os for current users of WM5? thanks
Neg
T-mo MDA (US)
rom 2.26.10.2
clocked at 250 (stable all the time)
thanks

That will be up to the OEM and the MOs (if a Phone Edition)...
No one can predict how it will play out.

After witnessing the WM2003SE to WM5 fiasco for Ipaq4700 users, I doubt there will be an upgrade. But thats just a hunch. I've read where a few guys have had early versions of "crossbow" and feel like its mostly cosmetic, at least right now.

WM6 is still a long long long ways off.
I highly doubt we'll be able o upgrade to it.
No one can say for sure though until it comes out.

WM6 Will be released to mnfr by the end of this year. As to consumer release well that's really up to them...but predictions are Q1/Q2 2007...

I bet it will be around the Q2 to Q4 of 2007. We all know Microsoft is never for sure about their release date.
And I doubt there will be an upgrade. Their going to ship it to manufactuers, so why would they release an upgrade, they rather put it on new devices and make more money.

I doubt it.
When was the last time Microsoft made a launch date for anything?
Mark my words, we won't see WM6 until the end of '07 at the earliest.

Well, they made a lauch date for Vista, but they kepting prolonging it, because of bugs. But very true, don't antiscipate it for awhile, move on with a better WM5 device. I'm thinking about selling both my TyTn and Wizard to buy the next PPC Samsung with it comes out. Don't have the model number in mind at this moment,

PM me if you want to sell your Tytn! I may be interested, haha :-D

I doubt T-Mobile will make it available. After all, they never even made 2003 SE available to the owners of the IPAQ 6315--That's first-hand experience!
Simple things like rotating the screen to landscape were impossible. Only certain s/w like Windows Media and BetaPlayer could do it.

WM2005 for JAM? Doubt it.

Strange how O2 and Orange have decided they're not going to release the 'Magician' aka O2 mini/MDA compact/I-Mate JAM/Orange M500 here in the UK. I'm wondering if its because WM2005 devices are right around the corner and this little gem won't be upgradable because it doesn't have the juice (memory/cpu) to run it...
I've come close 3 times now to buying one from T-Mobile.. but something just doesnt seem right.. think I'll wait a bit longer. T-Mobile is selling them like hotcakes.. o2 & orange must have a very good reason not to release these here and thats why Im thinking they're something 'special' on the horizon.
what do you guys think?
i think they want to release it with a new device.. just like what they did with the WM2003SE they didn't release any upgrades.. instead a new device..... who knows

At work, we run with Windows 2000 Server. Who cares that there's a 2003 version? The 2000 version does everything we want.
And isn't 2005 version of Windows Mobile going to be released in 2005, ages away?
I think people can tend to get a little wrapped up in what's just not available yet. 2nd edition Windows Mobile is going to be viable for some time yet, and is a bloody capable O/S. I know this won't be upgradeable, and just don't care...
I say get it now, there is always going to be something else you want tomorrow. Wait for that, and then something else is on the horizion.
I had an XDA II as I liked the PDA/phone idea but in practise it didn't work for me. The thing is just too big to be taken seriously as a phone, so I never used it. Tried things like the SE 910i and various Smartphones. None did the job. The SPV C500 is great, but I need a touchscreen on my pda.
So have just moved to the Jam and it is like a whole new world! It is a fabulous device and changed the way I think of and use a phone.
Cheers
Marc
Go for Jam....i have been using SE P900, moto mpx300 and Jam....I feel Jam outperformed all of them. P900 is more towards a phone....
Why you ask? Because WM2005 phones will be able to run out of battery and not have to be reconfigured (LIKE A NORMAL PHONE). Nothing is lost due to the way it uses the memory. That alone is reason enough for me, it would be nice to have to mess around the Extended ROM all the time or make backups every day for fear of losing everything. I don't have time for that these days.
WM2005 is supposedly due in the summer, and surely HTC is testing it on the replacement for the JAM as we speak.
HTC releasing a replacement for the JAM at these early stages of the JAM's life would be a suicide. What HTC want is to get as many JAM sales as possible, then release a replacement phone for us to buy another one!

Don't hold out for Crossbow on the Hermes (on the Vario 2, at least)

After Crossbow was spotted running on an M3100 earlier this month, I fired off an email to T-Mobile asking them whether it would ever be available for the punters... Got a reply today:

Good Morning Mr Woods
Thank you for your enquiry regarding handset updates.
So far the new AKU versions have all came out with new devices and the upgrade has never been supported from eg 2003 to 2005. if this will be available for the Crossbow then I don?t know.
From a t-mobile marketing point of view I would say it probably won't be available.
Kind Regards

I've read that Crossbow most likely won't be AKU3 of WM5, instead being an entirely new update which will be released before Microsoft release their Photon OS, and I've also seen it described as Windows Mobile 6 - but yeah, now that there's shots of an M3100 running it, it can't be that far from retail release, so I was just wondering if you had/have any plans in the works for letting us customers get it for their devices!
Cheers in advance

... Oh well. :/
that sucks :-(
He also is saying that there wont be a AKU3.x at all for the Hermes, and I think that's a load of BS. What he's saying is, if we want the latest AKU's, we have to buy new devices, FU buddy (the t-mobile guy that is)!
I'd say we need to concentrate on getting Buzz to update his stealth rom dumper.
If anyone has their hands on a Crossbow Hermes, get in touch with us. Buzz is temporarily detained, but source code of grabbit is available if required. What's needed?
Use Mamaich's rom dumper, the wiki solution or Pof's solution if you can. If not, contact a mod.
I suggest that it's unlikely an official Crossbow upgrade will come for Hermes. BUT the Samsung CPU has been popular and I imagine HTC will base a number of upcoming devices on the architecture. If so, a possible leaked rom may be hackable.

A dump from WinCE is not as good as a dump from bootloader.
Someone should write a windows tool that communicates to bootloader over USB and does all the 'rbmc' commands needed to dump xbow.
Sleuth255: I see you've developed several apps... are you able to write such a tool if i give you the right bootloader commands? USB is seen as a serial device.
Keeping this thread alive and on top, maybe seen before, lots of Crossbow screenshots on this site:
http://www.pgcw.com.cn/newsdetail.asp?id=1366#here
How can we make it stealthy though? I may get my hands on a CrossBow equipped Hermes during MEDC 2K7 in May, but if I do, it'll most likely be in the exhibit area for only 5-10 minutes. This is why something like buzz's solution is so compelling.
I can certainly work on an app that will pull the ROM image when a device in bootloader mode is connected up to a PC. Having this certainly increases our chances if someone does manage to get one for a few hours.
I'll see what I can code up, but IMO we should also pursue buzz's stealth solution. Go ahead and point me towards the commands pof.. I can start with the instructions you left for tsuishui.

Reading the message with open mind and not only with the eyes I read:
1) The man answering doesn't even knows the difference between OS and AKU. He speaks about 2003 and 2005 as AKU difference: ISN'T AKU, is a new OS release!
2) The same fellow doesn't even know the NAME of OSes! 2003 was right but we have Windows Mobile 5 an NOT 2005!
3) He is a man from the customer service, or, worst, probabily the answer comes from Tmobile marketing man, with little or no knowledge about the future of windows mobile devices, he knows about the past but seem really short sighted abut the future
4) The answer is the only answer he could give: if he will say "may be.." or "we will see" everyone will start asking WHEN, boring him from is well paid chair, so is better to say "no", beacuse "no" was the answer given since yesterday and worked! They don't sell devices, the sell radio time and traffic
5) In the Operators market strong agreements exists between MS and operators and marketing doesn't drive, they follow!
Overclock the brain reading messages and spokesmen transcripts from companies, not only eyes and be carefull when asking something simple but revolutionary to a large and with good revenues company: 90% of answers will be NO

roms and support

hello
im thinking of getting the hw6945 as a replacement for my wizard. there are couple of reasons that i havent done yet and this is y:
1. there are no unlock methods, sim and app.
2. not enough user support.
3. no new roms aku3.3.
4. no wm6.
5. current rom is sluggish.
is there a better forum for the ipaq or is it that this fone isnt that famous amongst ppl.
Please let me know asap since i need to make a decision now.
The sluggish part I can't really deny - but it's called the "swiss army knife" of pda/phones for a good reason. Rumors had it that the HP lineup was going to get the wm6 upgrade, which makes sense since the 69xx series is the "flagship" line and they usually have an upgrade path - most recently with the 47xx series. People will tell you that the 65xx wasn't upgradeable but that's because the 69xx was already in pre-production when wm5 was announced. I believe that's the reason why the 69xx is so slow - they just loaded it up with the new OS without upgrading the cpu. From what I understand the specs for wm6 isn't so high as to make the device any more sluggish.
There isn't much user support, but it's a business model not really for hacking.
What's in the new ROM that you want??
I believe it comes unlocked in many parts of the world.

i didnt know that they called the hw6900 series the swiss army of all PDAs. even if they did how come not alot of ppl have it or talk about it. i mean comparing to the wizard, there is so much support for it. anyways, what makes me confused is i love my wizard, but it has been with me for more than a year and i wanted to get another phone. i was thinking about the jasjam but since its the same concept at the wizard, i started to look for something else. you big screen, q keyboard, gps. the hp has all these but then it doesnt have what made the wizrd fun, and that is formating and trying out new roms. how do u like yours and have you had another windows fone other than your hp?
I try to limit myself to one pda/phone gadget at a time. I had the wizard and the magician before that - jasjar never excited me, it's just too huge and in the end you have to be able to talk on the phone without looking like you're holding a brick to your face. The only other phone I would use instead of the hw6965 would be the new treo 750. I'm pretty pragmatic really and I enjoy the good hack as much as the next guy, but the older I get the more I like my things to "just work" as opposed to messing around with it all the time. Treo doesn't have wifi or gps but I like the form factor. The wizard isn't really practical in my opinion - you always have to slide out the keyboard (which means that you are only allowed to be in landscape when you type) and consequently you have to use 2 hands.
with the upcoming launch of new wm6 phones, I'd hold off on any purchases if I were you.

I have had both the 8125 and 8525. I then recieved the HP 6925 from Cingular and I haven't used the others since. In fact I just sold my 8525 on ebay. The 6925 is amazing. The GPS rules and can used with most GPS programs. The keypad works great and the screen cover is perfect. The only thing is that HP is really slow with rom updates. The processor is faster then the 8525 however you take a hit on the screen. Calls are clear and I love using one hand to make calls. I no longer slide out the keyboard. I am very happy and iPAQ's are built to last... Hope this helps..

Pocket-lint Reporting that WM6 for Ameo is Coming

Quote from http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/reviews/review.phtml/2350/3374/t-mobile-htc-ameo-smart-phone.phtml
"The Ameo still disappointingly runs Windows Mobile 5 rather than 6, but this shouldn't put you off all together, and although T-Mobile hasn't set a date, it has confirmed to Pocket-lint that customers will get a free upgrade to version 6 when it happens."
Article is dated today (21 May 2007).

Good news, but expected. As HTC is giving us WM6 for the Advantage, it would be stupid not to release it to the "other models"...
Pocket-Lint...that's funny..
I never heard of it..Guess you learn new things each day
The funny thing is the review seems so un-professional with lots of mistake. Could this just be a rumor or they are really sure the WM6 update is coming? Anyway, check out these mistake they made:
1. They say HTC Ameo Smartphone----well it's not really smart phone isn't it, smart phone is without touch screen..
2. Exclusive to T-Mobile-------well it's not true, it's also available on HTC and DOPOD
3. Athena and now called the HTC Ameo---------what? it's T-mobile Ameo not HTC Ameo
4. ATU Graphic Chip W2284------I believe is ATI Graphic chip not ATU
It's not normal that a review got so many mistake, but really, personally i think the review is quite useless, it doesn't tell us much, most of the review done here in this forum has a higher standard than this.
And looks like they have confuse them self with HTC and T-mobile, so when they say WM6 Update is coming, do they really mean it's the T-mobile? or they think it's the HTC....I guess time will tell
Thanks for the info. We'll see how soon they come out with it.

When is WM6 coming to the X7500?

does someone know when WM6 will be released for the X7500?
I'd like te know a date or something.
You took the time to make a new thread, so you know how to use search I'm sure.

Quite. Not the most auspicious start to membership of xda-developers.
hetallerbeste, may I suggest you read these two threads urgently:
Read me first (note there is also a Advantage wiki)
And don't forget to read me - all of the posts are relevant.
I think one irrelavent post pointing out the search and not answering his question is enough....
Hetallerbeaste no one knows when the WM6 update will be officially released its meant to be sometime in June/July probably expect July given
1. HTC's usual lateness with these things
2. The knowledge that the X7501, which comes loaded with WM6 goes on sale August, 1. Therfore theres the likelyhood that you'll see the ROM in that time frame.
Then again point 2 could be useless given that there are 4 upcoming WM6 roms likely to be launched at same time, but nevertheless June/July is about as close to a release date as there is.
HTC is already advertising with the X7501. It seems a matter of time before this is "leaked" to this forum.
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_x7501.htm
Cheers
According to this (June 11, German language) news item, T-Mobile Austria confirmed WM6 updates in line for the Ameo (Athena/X7500), Vario II (Hermes) and Compact III (Artemis).
The ROMs are supposedly in testing now an "will be made available to customers within the next couple of weeks".
Whatever that means, if we allow up to 6 weeks of testing, the updates might indeed turn up by early August.

Darkguy
