Great Mac OS X Theme - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hello,
I have found this Mac OS X theme for Windows Mobile called Tiger 2.0, here is the link:
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7787
The problem is that I haven't been able to make it work yet on my TyTN, I find it very confusing. Can anyone please help me out on how to get this working clean, step-by-step?
I am new to skins, and it's my first time running Wisbar Advance 2.
Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

OK, first of all the full theme requires Wisbar Advance Desktop too. Normally the theme will have a folder marked WA2 (Wisbar Advance) and one marked WAD (Advance Desktop).
Wisbar Advance is basically a task manager that puts pretty bars at the top and bottom of the screen. To get it to work you just need to drop the theme folder into the lakeridge/themes folder on your device.
Advance Desktop is a whole different ball game. As far as I can tell you only get given the basic elements of the desktop and need to set it all up yourself.

I looked into the Wisbar thingy. Looks cool, but is hard to install.
I will look into more, maybe when I figure it out, I post some usefull stuff here.
Maybe have a look at their forum...

Skins for signal, connection and speaker icons in taskbar

Hi
Does anybody know where the skins are for the signal strength button the connection state button and the volume button are.
As you can see in the image below im trying to set a green theme with the txt on my exec and these icons don't go as they are white.
Many thanks
Scott
There built into some of the ROM dlls I think. Most people skin the bar with WisBar or similar.
V
I Suspected as much that these were related to dll's
Does anybody know which dll's they are.
I did use to use wisbar but i found that there was just to much lag with it.
I would like to know this to as i also think that wisbar lags up the device to mutch
Anybody got any ideas.
I think if we can crack this 1 it may also helps us understand how to remove the dam battery icon in the new imate rom and let us put the clock back.
shellres.96.dll
V
Microsoft design guidelines demand that these symbols remain white... Not that this will stop you but I thought you should know.

Is there anything on this board that is within the Microsoft guidelines!?

This looks kick ass! When did you cook this one now???
San, that's a screenshot from VJSmallIcons II, which will turn your "programs" launcher fullscreen and permit changing the view style (look up VJSmallIcons to see what the original did). The new version, although looking simple, requires a lot of voodoo in the background, but it's a test platform for stuff I'm developing for VJToggleToday II.
VJSmallIcons II should be out quite soon, just one or two more tweaks to retain settings in the registry and it'll be out for test releases.
scotjen1: to come back On topic, I've never tried overriding that dll, but I presume you could try the same technique used by Azhad here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34995&highlight=
to create a new resource dll to override the original icons etc. It'd be a nice hack to try.
V
V
Great work with VJsmallicons II looking good.
Now back to the skinning. I have managed to copy the shellres.96.dll (great work for that V would have never known that) to my desktop and have used resource hacker to extract the ico files from it.
I then found a program called easy icon maker (good program works well) and have managed to change the colour of these icons.
When i then replace the resource with resource hacker it show as if it has been replaced i then load the DLL back in to the windows dir and get an error saying this file is in use and can't be overwritten but i use resco and it gave me an option to continue which i presume forces it to be over written. I then soft reset and bang the icons are exactly the same. Any idea's ?
Also just 1 other thing when changing the icons they were set to 16 x 16 and 2 colours so i had to change this to 16 x 16 and 16 colours would this have made a difference also.
scotjen1: it's likely to be more involved then that (as if that wasn't enough!).
You will have to have a read through Azhad's thread above, and the VGA files thread. What you need to do on WM5 is, I believe, although I have no direct experience in this area, is to create a resource only dll containing the icons you want to replace. 16 colours should make no difference. But I believe the resource ids need to match the original.
That needs to be signed (check the first few VGA files posts for info of how this was done originally, and find the signer, called SignIt, posted by BeyondTheTech I believe), and then save the file as an .mui file so that it gets loaded over the top of the original shell file. That shell file is unlikely to be replaceable whatever Resco thinks.
Have a read through Azhad's thread, decompile his .mui files and that should point you in the right direction.
V
V
Wow that does sound quite a challenge still though im not going to let it beat me lol.
I have got Azhad's files at home (i presume you are talking about the power backlight and wifi files) i will have a go at trying to decompile them tonight see if it can shed some light on the situaion.
As for the signing wasn't there a cab flying around somewhere that disabled this or am i completly going off track here.
You still need to sign the dlls for WM5.
SignCode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=191136#191136
I really can't say if any of this is correct, as I said, it's something I've thought about but never bothered with. I'm working on my own skinner for the bar, but this method should be effective + no overhead.
You don't need to decompile Azhad's stuff, just resource hack it to see what he's put in the dlls. In fact, use his dlls, empty it out, stuff it with your stuff and re-sign.
V
Nice that sounds a little bit easier lol.
Will give it a try when the work day ends will keep you posted on the progress.

Darky has given you a good link. Like me you're new to WAD and I found the following guide to WAD very useful in getting started.

Mike
Thanks for the link... it's very usefull. i will start to learn how to make my own skin but....
in the meanwhile i'd like to use some skin found on the forum.
i have downloaded it (for example Vistabetatwo). unpacked and copied in the
SD, set in wisbar the directory and in the theme page i can find it.
selected, but the only things changed are the upper and bottom bar.... and where are all the object on the desktop? the link? the meter?
in the preview image there so many things....
where am I making mistakes?
Thnaks
some might be from other programs like spb pocketplus /spb diary / pocket pc phone alarm ..etc, also to customize what's on your today screen go to star/settings/today/items and choose them from there

Not sure I agree with you. Yes it is a bit finicky to work out and it does help to know your way around basic directories and file structures but from knowing nothing about it two days ago I now have 5 today screens all looking different all with different plug ins and buttons set up to move from one page to another. Where I do agree is, that this is a Hermes board and not a general one and perhaps we don't want to clog it up with non hermes specific issues? There is plenty of help\ on other sites for WAD as shown in above posts.
I would say in relation to hermes that WAD is very useful due to its provision of multiple Today screens as hermes has a relatively small screen to fit all those lovely plugins. Also I was concerned it would really slow up my TyTn with all these pages and plugins but actually having the plugins on seperate pages rather than all on one has speeded up the device! I think the real advanced users like vijay for example probably write their own code/programmes for this sort of thing.
My advice with all these things is give it a try and see where you get to, just back-up what you can before starting and go for it - that's the joy of having the hermes in the first place - unless you're a business user in which case don't tell the boss!!

The point of Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Advance Desktop is that you can set them up and customise them and so you have to hunt down a nice theme download it / unzip and place it on your device in suitable directories. These do not in my experience come in nice exe or cab files but are files you put directly into the folders WA and WAD looks for it's themes. The following link has the popular Windows vista theme:
http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11182
Download the qvga skin package. (can download the icons and wallpapers as well for later use.)
When you unzip there will be a lot of folders the most essential ones to put in your Wisbar Themes folder on your device are the ones named Windows Vista WA2, Windows Vista WAD, and Windows Vista Media Player.
The themes folder is likely to be on device or storage card in programme files>lakeridge>wisbar advance>Themes. Drop the files in there. Go to WA settings>my theme page and hopefully the theme will show up for you to select, If not you need to go to WA >settings>programme directories and tell it where to find the new files.
Sadly no programme that just does it all for you and as darky pointed out some of the fancy stuff on today screens posted in the forums:darkysome might be from other programs like spb pocketplus /spb diary / pocket pc phone alarm ..etc, also to customize what's on your today screen go to star/settings/today/items and choose them from there
So the look is coming from many different features all running together.
Cheers
Mike
Thnaks very much for you istrucions.
i've just done all the things you say. The upper bar is modified and the desktop come out but with no item on it.

This may take some time to explain. (a good general guide is the WAD.Doc link shown earlier).
1. Be sure Advance Desktop is active - go to windows symbol and give it a long press. This brings up a menu. Select Settings. Click arrow beside My Theme, this brings up another menu select plugins at the bottom, an item "Desktop" should appear and be ticked. (If not Wisbar Advance Desktop is not installed properly).
2. Get back to Desktop. Long Press on a free area on the desktop and a menu should appear. Select "new" (we'll add a RAM Meter) so select "meter". A screen appears, use drop down box at top of screen and select "Memory RAM". Leave storage set to "My Device".
3. In the Path to image box you must enter the path to an image. (If you downloaded the Icons file along with the vista theme and saved them on your device/storage card then use gray box on right to find your way tothe folder and select a nice icon. If you did not put the icons folder on your device then just use the gray box followed by down arrow top right to go to the My Device> "Windows" folder. A lot of icons should then appear. Pick one - (doesn't matter which one it's just so you see how it works), and click ok. Pressing ok again takes you back to desktop and your meter should be there. You can drag it to a suitable place.
It's very much the same procedure for adding new shortcuts other meters, new desktop pages etc. With practice you can change to new wallpapers font sizes etc etc.
Enough for now.
Mike
I know hot to build virtual pages, dock, and meter... but i'm not looking for guides to build my own theme but i'd like to download theme just done!
so i have only to copy files into the device; the wa2 folder and the wad folder,
but i need that in the wad folder there is the skin file that i can load throught ther theme manager
thanks

Anyone tried Itask-Wisbar Advance with Iphone-transitions?

Hey guys,
I just come across this: Itask-Wisbar Advance with Iphone-transitions
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11402
Any idea if it would work with o2 mini s cos it looks bloody awesome.
You can watch a preview of it right here: -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3BeSG-aKLo
five
I tried it
It needs more work but it's pretty spectacular. I'm not a wisbar user so that might make it even more visually appealling. I love the clean smoothed icons and the iPhone feel with the screen transitions. My biggest gripes are lack of landscape (with my keyboard extended the screen gets tiny) and loss of information that I'm use to on my Today screen.
I didn't take the time to get everything functioning that I could have but I will definitely be revisiting this after additional development. I would pay good money for a more mature app with additional options.
can someone upload this skin? looks like its been removed from lakeridge forums
edit: nm, found a newer version.
Post for the rest of us.
try this, got it over at Lakeridge webstie direct
It is actually quite pointless and eats memory like a savage beast.. I was running it for a day or two... nothing special.. just some mortscript and flash stuff
I prefer my modded wisbar theme, because you can edit stuff freely. With this, although the transitions are cool, it is flash so you are limited to editing it on your PC.
how to install,
I played around a bit but how do I instal this on the wizard
I transffered the unzipped file to my storage card and launched the "itask" program via file explorer. It does open but non of the icons seems the be working [eg starting a program]
what amI doing [wrong] here?

Extensible Theme/Skin Changer

(originally posted here)
I would like to propose the open-source development of a new program for Windows Mobile theme changing.
Themes are very popular. People love to personalize their mobile devices. Many ROM cookers will create their own themes that are implemented across a variety of included applications. Unfortunately, themes for third party applications cannot be defined or changed from within Windows Mobile’s native “Today” Control Panel Appearance tab. There are completely different methods of changing the Today screen theme, Media Player theme, and Phone dialer theme. Then if you’ve got some HTC applications in your ROM, there are yet other methods of changing the HTC Home Plug-in theme, TouchFLO Cube theme, Comm Manager theme, SIP keyboard themes, etc. The possibilities are endless.
I would like to propose a standard unified way of changing the look on all of these applications as well as future applications.
The program could be similar to the HTC Home Customizer where users would select named themes to be applied to specific programs, and the software would copy the proper images/files to the proper locations. The difference would be that there would need to be a way for users and 3rd party developers to interface with the program in order to let it know where its new theme files are supposed to go. Maybe there’s a master XML file that lists application specific XML files which include image/file location information.
Anyway, I think this type of program would be extremely useful both for power users and beginners who want to easily customize the look of their device and apply different themes to their applications from a central location. However, I’m not much of a programmer at all, so I am seeking help from the community.
I’ve started a project on Popfly called “WM6ProThemeChanger”. If you search for that name using the Popfly explorer, you’ll find it. Also, you can add me as a friend using “Adamz1977”. I'm not sure if that's the right way to do this, so if anyone else has any thoughts, feel free to post 'em.
I guess we should start be creating a central list of locations and filenames for various theme-changing image files for the variety of applications we all use. Any thoughts??

That's a great idea!
I have installed Poorlyduck's vista theme for the cube and if you look at his thread, not only did he worked hard at making the theme but he had to help out a really big bunch of people who had a hard time installing it.
Hope this works out!
Are you looking for this to somehow have one file type that contains all of the necessary files, or some sort of "it reads what it can from a folder and copies them where they need to go" style? I guess I can't picture what your goal is...

The "it reads what it can from a folder and copies them where they need to go" style would probably be easiest, right? That's what the HTC Home Customizer does I think. Plus, a lot of applications might need text files, GIF, PNG images, and maybe even a DLL to be placed somewhere in order for the theme/skin design to work. The Media Player skins need a SKN text file. I think the phone dialer needs a DLL sometimes in order to change its skin.
I just think it's too difficult for us users to figure out how to change the theme/skins of all these great programs. If you know any one who might be able to help with this, please send them to this thread.

Review: Infinity UI with my HTC Touch Pro2 (WM6.5)

Acknowledgement: Infinity is in a very early development stage,it's not yet a finished application, this review doesnt reflect the final completed software, the purpose of this review is to let devolopers and would-be users to contribute ideas in order to make final completed software more perfect.
please see full review with pictures in the following link:
http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1461&p=7600#p7600
The Infinity v0.2.1 is apparently not compatible with WM6.5 very well, I even cannot set background picture for the desktop,so there must be some buttons missing.
Generally it looks very promising, compared to Touchflo 3D,it’s much more customizable, you can put any shortcuts and widgets in anywhere of the desktop, this is the feature millions are looking for;Compare to SPB Mobile Shell, the Infinity looks very similar but more agile and you can set everything neat and usable immediately.
Like SPB Mobile Shell, the Ageye Infinity let you do two most important things:
One,you put all your most important shortcuts and widgets on the desktop,NOTE any location of the desktop. While for Touchflo 3D,you basically cannot do much about the desktop, this sucks badly and I am suffercating every time I see Touchflo 3D.
Two,you put less important or less frequently used shortcuts in Favorite Folder (in SPB Mobile Shell,it’s called Launcher,in Infinity,it’s the middle button I saw when I tested it in my HTC Pro2 with WM6.5 rom).
As I didn’t see the Infinity Manual,it took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to use it, I should say it’s more or less close to SPB Mobile Shell when it comes to customization of desktop and Favorite Folder.
The difference is,for example, you want to place Contacts in the desktop, first you need to add “Shortcut” in the desktop, this Shortcut is an empty icon, then you click on this Shortcut icon to find the path of the Contacts.
If you are interested to try out Infinity v0.2.1,please download(probably need registration):
http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1369
Install to your main memory, then in programs you can find a Infinity program icon, click to run.
Suggestions to developers:
1. how to set the background for desktop, the default background is not-so-good-looking,there is no button that can set this, please update based on WM6.5.
2. where is the general configuration? How to set Infinity to replace Today? How to change language? How to set the number of pages of desktop?
3. how to change the size of icons in the desktop? In SPB Mobile Shell,it got this feature, you can make the icon small, big, professional, transparent etc etc.
4. about the right and left soft key configuration,it seems that the option is very limited, can we assign any programs and widgets for the right and left soft key?
5. For Infinity own widgets, I suggest you to add Task Manager, this is most often used tool,In addition,if we can put this Task Manager in the right soft key, that will be very convenient! I saw SPB Mobile Shell has a great Task Manager widget, users can use Shell extension tool to put it beside the Launcher.
Looking forward to your great update soon!

Exactly! And it's already pretty amazing.
This UI seems to be alot like PointUI.. I dont know a lot about coding but it seems like a very early version of the same UI
I dont doubt that it is entirely different that's just my two cents from screen shots of Infinity.
Pointui you can use tons and tons of different themes and wigets etc as well.
ie:Pointui Sense, Nexus One, Mac OS... the list really is endless.
Just some food for thought. If you like Infinity you should definaly give pointui a try. That said...... if you're the developer and just trying to spread the word about Infinity.. My bad! I looks promising!

It's not really like PointUI - it doesn't crash as often
No, I've tried (bought) PointUI and other than the PointSense theme (which has been abandoned by its developer) there's nothing much about PointUI to get excited about Add to that the fact that PointUI hasn't seen an update from its developers in a very long time...
I think that Infinity shows more promise than both SPB Mobile Shell and PointUI combined. People are forgetting that what they've seen so far is only an ALPHA version!
About the task manager, try to press on the top bar...
