Does anybody know a way to have MissingSync tansfer contacts to the TyTN and displaying them First than Last name? Or is there an easy way of making the TyTN flip the way all the contacts are displayed? I have over 700 contacts that show up the right way on my AddressBook but show up last name first when I sync them to my TyTN.
Thanks
search on tytn wiki ;-)
Or just simply buy WebIS Toolbox for PPC where you can set this, auto-add categories based on item name, search & remove duplicates etc. See pocketinformant.com.
i had the same problem here.
there's a solution through a utility in this forum to change the way the contacts show (first/last or last/first) but it takes a very long time if you have more than 500 contacts...

I can't find an easy way to display my list of people I phone (about 110) without it being mixed in with all my contacts that Outlook has gathered from email (1766). I can call them up via SIM manager but it takes about 30 seconds to build the list .... and I'm not sure whether people I add in here are reflected in my Contacts and vice versa. I'm sure there's a market for an app that manages email and phone numbers separately
Mike
why ?
i moved all my sim contacts to outlook as soon as i got the xda
havent had any reason what so ever to have any on the sim
Two reasons really:
Searching through a huge list while driving is much more difficult than it used to be on my ordinary cellphone with just 100 plus entries, and secondly MS Voice Command (I think) has to build a database for all 1700 outlook contact entries - I think this might be why it's misbehaving.
...... but I don't see anyone else complaining about this, so maybe I'm just working in some weird way
Mike
Create a sub folder in outlook, and move all your email contacts to that folder, then of course you'll need to tell outlook, through the options, the location of the new folder to use for your email address book.
Then leave all your phone contacts in the default contact folder, and this is the one active sync uses when syncing.
This is all due to a limitation in Active Sync whereby you can't specify the folder to be used for syncing, even though, of all things, Nokia PC Suite will do this, whilst microsoft's own solution WON'T.
The other alternative some use, is to use CATEGORIES.
By tagging all your phone contacts with a category label, say for example phone, then you CAN set up activesync so that when it syncs, ONLY contacts of a certain Category are synced.
Hope this helps fit your problem.
Hey .... both of those suggestions sound good. I will experiment. Am I right in thinking though, that I then won't have any email addresses at all in my XDA2. I guess I can live with this, as I'm generally only replying to emails with the XDA2
Mike
the way i do it is to have a category in outlook; i use the category of peronal which is out of the box outlook and then in active sync you have the option of synching only people in a categoy. i have outlook 2003

Er that depends.
Now I'm not sure what your original question meant?
The follow up implies that you do want Email address contacts on the XDA2.
So in simple terms, either you do want them, or you dont.
If you want a more prescriptive choice, let me know a bit more detail of what you are hoping to acheive, and I will let you know if there is a way or a workaround for it....
If only SOME contact records containing an Email address are needed by you on the XDA2, then just also tick them as a "Phone Contact" in the Category field, and these will then sync accross if you use Categories as the method.
Let me know exactly waht you mean...
actually your summary of what I want is pretty spot on. A few email addresses and ALL my phone contacts on the XDA. All my email addresses on the PC (I don't really care about the telephone numbers being on the PC). I followed your advice - but didn't think it through properly. I deleted all my contacts on the XDA, then set active sync on the PC to synchronise only the contacts I'd marked as phone contacts. Of course when it sync'd it decided to wipe out ALL the contacts on the PC. No matter - I have a backup - but incidentally I found that with just the 118 contacts from my SIM card loaded into the XDA, both Voice Command and Fonix were dramatically imroved.

If you open contacts, and then tap on the w, m, h, or e, you will see the available contact details for each person. Just set it to display what you want and it will be remembered between syncs.
IE. Joe Bloggs with a mobile (m), e-mail (e) or work phone (w), home phone (h). If you want the mobile phone number displayed, tap on the letter and choose M.

hello all,
anybody using outlook 2003 yet? i'm having problems synching my contacts properly...seems that there is proper synching but when you use your device, some categories are missing, some contacts don't display the same info as in outlook, etc.
so i'm wondering, is it outlook 2003 or should i hard-reset my device(which i'm not too keen on doing)?
any feedback i will greatly appreciate
Thanks,
bree
Hey
Ive used Outlook 2003 ever since I got my XDA 2 so i'm not terribly sure what the syncronisation of contacts was like in previous versions.
To put it simply, if I get some info I want to add as a new contact, I usually wait until I go home and just put the info on the phone temporarily as a note. Many fields are missing, like "other telephone number" and proper formatting of the 'display name' is not possible directly off the phone... e.g. If I save a new contact on the phone as "Tom Smith", im stuck with it being saved as "Smith, Tom" until I open Outlook 2003 to change the display name there.
Also confusing, but not really a problem anymore is Business in Outlook is called Work on the phone... e.g. 'Work Telephone'.
I havent noticed any other problems, except that Outlook 2003 only synchronises the main e-mail inbox even though the phone will display empty folders for everything else such as sent items and custom inboxes.
Unless you're having some sort of other problem you wouldn't get any improvement from a hard reset. Let me know if what you're experiencing is different/worse.
Ash
Had the same problem with name being swapped around to Surname, Forename but found a solution! When creating a new contact on the phone click the down arrow next to the name field and enter the whole name in the Last Name field. This will then save the contact in the format Forename Surname. The contact will also be saved correctly in Outlook 2003 unless you specifically want Surname,Forename formatting.

ey, thanks for the replies guys, as for the above situation, you can go to the mail options section in activesync then check the appropriate boxes for folders you want to sync.
I am using Activesync 4.1 (also tried 4.2 beta)
When I create an appointment or contact on my 8125 with an added note and try to sync it to my PC, I get an error on the pc that attention is required ( support code:1 )
If I create the contact or appointment on the 8125 but don't add any notes or comments, it syncs fine. It's only when I add notes/comments that I get the error code.
Can anyone add a contact on their 8125, put some info in the notes field and sync it to their pc?
If the calendar or contact with notes is created on the PC, it will sync to the 8125 just fine but not vice versa.
Hooof !
I also have started having this problem on my Vario II, at present only from appointments sent by one sender. Some appointments do have and some don't have attachments. Also some are recurring and some are not.
If the user has addins on there Outlook does anybody know if these may have an impact.
I have the problem where if i make a ew contact or calender entery on the PC and then sync, i get no error message, but the callender or contact on the XDA exec dose not contain the note made when creating the contact or calender.
also if i look at a old task i had on the pc and then i edit the test in the task and then re sync the whole of the text on the XDA is gone
the same for the "notes" as well
So basically any note attched to a Note, Contact, Task or calender when synced with my XDA only shows the titel not the note inside
Anyone help please
Thanks
John
I have the same problem. Did anybody find a solution?
Hi all,
I've tried a search for a solution, but couldn't find it immediately:
I've a lot of contacts divided over subfolders in my Outlook. Apparently activesync does not work with subfolders: huh!?
Is there a new version I can download?
I really need the different maps, I can't work with categories
Regards
Koen
I don't think this is possible. I had the same problem as you.
What I did is to organize my contacts "by category" so instead of using sub folders assigning each contact to a specific category in Outlook. You can then view them in Outlook "by category" and filter in Windows Mobile by category.
I agree that this is a serious problem. With some of my contacts I've gone into Outlook (that I sync with) and placed a zz_ at the front of the "File As:" entry.
Then at least all of these contacts will be at the bottom of my list.
The other thing I've done is created an excel spread sheet (or even an html file) with a list of contacts that I don't want on my main list and copied that file to my phone. Sometimes I open that to find names and then copy and paste it into my phonebook.
Welcome to Activesync! This goes right back to the first Pocket PCs, Microsoft have shown no iterest in adding this functionality.
The only way you can do this is by using different sync software, which maps folders in outlook to categories on your phone. Works well for me.

Hi All
Yes I know this answer is a little late... But it might help others
If you want to Sync MS Outlook's Contact Sub Folders you need - Chapura PocketMirror Professional
I've used it for many years and excellent bit of kit (only used with office 2003)
Just checked online and they have gone 'bust' but I still have the software & in daily use - PM me if req'd
Hello everyone!
This is my first post, but I was browsing through this forum a lot, it's great!
Anyway, here's my problem
I have imported all of my contacts form Outlook earlier. Now, when I sync them with facebook account, and after I set defoult name to be the old one (like old nickname, not facebook name) it stays that way for as long as I don't use it...
To make it more clear, every contact stays with it's old name until I send them a message or call them. Then facebook account takes over and makes it's name defoult.
I have changed that for several times, but every time I use a contact, it goes back to facebook name.
Has anyone had such problem before? It can be really anoying....
Thanks in advance!
