Just got my mini back from service centre so its had a hard reset. I'm trying to load my sms and mms ringtones like I previously had but there not showing up :? I thought I was able to keep them on the storage card but because there not showing up in "Sounds & Notifications" I'm wondering if I had them on the phone :?:
Strange thing is the .wav for incoming call shows up just not for sms and mms??
Any thoughts

Cheers for that but those sounds came with the phone.
I've just resorted to putting the .wav's in the windows folder for now...maybe thats what I had done before :?

Hello
I have an O2 XDA2 but I think that O2 are rubbish. I was happier on Orange before. I have unlocked my XDA2 and could change to Orange later this year when my year with O2 finishes. But I have a question -
When you have an answerphone message on Orange, your phone shows a little tape symbol (different from the SMS envelope symbol). How does this work with the XDA2? Does it show the SMS envelope instead?
It seems from these forums that people have got GPRS and MMS working with Orange from O2 machines, so does anyone else know of any problems in switching to Orange from O2?
TIA
Hi Silicon5,
My device isn't an O2 XDAII, but a simfree I-mate, but I've had absolutely no problems with it on Orange.
* Orange GPRS is fine. Dead easy to set up.
* Answerphone does indeed display a "tape" icon (and a balloon saying you have an answerphone message with a "Play" button).
* Other people have posted how to set up WAP/MMS.
Phil
Thank you for your reply Phil. Sounds good. I guess I could try a friend's SIM card on my XDA2 and see what happens.

Works completely perfectly.
Had mine nearly four months now (an O2 XDA2 that's only ever been used with an Orange SIM, that is!).

Thank you shadamehr. Is this guide available on this site? I searched but can't find it. It would be useful when I finally get rid of o2.

Duh - thanks loads for that. It is exactly what i will need. For some reason I was looking through your post history for a PDF document or something. Didn't go back far enough.
Shademehr do you also get the tape reel symbol when you have an answerphone message waiting? The O2 system of sending one sms (which I often find myself deleting but forgetting to listen the message) is a pain. I used to love the tape reel symbol thing when I was with orange before. Interesting if the XDA2 does come with this in the OS even though it was an o2 machine.

Miss a call, and I get a notification.
If the caller leaves a voicemail, I get the tape icon, as long as its not set to send me a text to notify - not even sure if you can with orange...
So, YUP - I get the tape reel icon, as notification of left voicemail.
BUT, if you get ANOTHER notification of another type, the XDA2 can only show one icon, so you THEN get the standard "notifications" alert icon instead.
Good news. Thanks for your help. I'll be switching to orange just as soon as i can...
I find this on this forum under Blue Angel

You just get a notification when your sms is delivered to the receipient...
HTH
Stefan
it sends you a confirmation SMS when your SMS has been consigned on receiver device (if he's out of coverage or with the device turned off you will not receiive the confirmation until the receiver is became reachable).
tested on Imate JAM, works perfectly.
imate jam already has this built in? check the options out when creating a new message it will have a tick box saying: Request message delivery notification
@gazzaman: yes, but you have to check it every time. This defaults it as checked.
ah cool cheers didnt know that
i wonder to know how to read SMS from SIM card?
anyone knows?

O2 Delivery reports
I don't get delivery reports with O2; I've read about a code that you need to enter before the message but is there any other way to activate it - who watched watchdog tonight o2 got a slatting :-(
O2 Sms delivery reports
To force an SMS delivery report on the O2 UK GSM network prefix the SMS message with *0# followed by the message. Example *0#Hello......
Incidentally, there are codes which can force an SMS message to screen, etc. but it is so long since I used them I have forgotten - anybody remember?
If you use that code to get a delivery report on O2 tho, if the receiever chooses to reply to your SMS, they will not be able to send the message. Not sure why this is, but I had this problem and after a little googling discovered that it's a problem with the way that O2 implements delivery reports!
Why oh why can't O2 just do it the standard way?!? Then we could just use the delivery report check box as well instead of having to type a code!!!
is there some prog like printscreen or screencapter for the ppc
so that i can show someone in a mail how to in stal something with pictures :?: :?: :?:
Magic SS.
It's free. Googlise it.

thanx
Right guys, im after a bit of help here, i need a different sound for when i get a new email, so that i can tell if the message is an sms or an email.
Ive had a listen through the OEM ones on the tytn but none are really any good, so just wondered what everyone is using? To give you all an idea, i am a mobile pc engineer so i around customers all day long so it cant be anything silly.
What are peoples thoughts?
Most of the phone sounds ive got on mine are ripped from the star trek lcars console sounds......prolly not appropriate!?
haha i wish i could mate, but your right, probably would be best if the customer hears "beam me up scotty!"
Try this, I use this for SMS and a normal WM5 sound for email.
Rob
I use the bionic man sound. Let me know if you're interested.
ok having a dum momment here, where do i add a new ringtone?

Monty Python

Works for me

Hi,
I have a t-mobile mda (touch dual) but have it unlocked with an O2 sim in. Every time I send a text or make a call I get this annoying pay and go balance sent to my phone. Is there any way I can stop the notification or atleast prevent it from making a noise? I have tried turning of all sounds but it doesnt work .
Thanks in advance for any help
you could try search for an O2 named .exe file in \Windows\ or a .lnk in \Windows\Start Up\ and delete (or rename to be safe) them.
but you could also Hard-Reset your device (Hold both call/hangup buttons while device on and press reset with stylus).
or even HardSPL your device and install a clean ROM
NOTE: Use PIM Backup before Hard Reset/ROM change, to save all your sms, email, contacts, etc. !!!
hi
thanks for the quick reply. I want to install niki project rom v2 but apparently it still has a few bugs that need to be ironed out. Do you knoow how I can hard reset? Im a bit of a newbie with the nike - just trying it out before I properly switch from my ancient tornado loll.
Also I know this is kind of off topic but is it just me or is the internet slower on the nike? Could it just be my radio rom?
Thanks again!
This is something that happens on all o2 pay as you go sims, its not the phone.
hi,
thanks for the reply
I know its an o2 thing but is there any way to stop the phone from alerting with a noise everytime I get one - I have tried going through all the notification settings and it still happens if I turn all notifications off - so I end up with no alert for calls / texts but an alert for credit! lol
i'd like to know this too, its pretty annoying!
I cant seem to find anyway to change it :s. On my tornado and prophet the message shows up doesnt make any noise but I cant find options for disabled that tone in the nike rom :s
i found this post that gets rid of the noise, ive yet to try it though
First download totalcmd (another file browser)
Create a blank wav file.. call it notify.wav (sometimes notify.wma)
Use totalcmd to replace the one in the windows directory with the one you created..
It works with some versions of wm5 though, so good luck..

doesnt work, tried that a year ago!
My advice would be to move to a different PAYG provider - T-Mob or Three would be my first choices Get a PAC code, take your number elsewhere
Failing that, ask O2 if they can switch it off?
Cheers,
Smiffy.

O2 have that as a feature phone them up and tell them you dont ant notifications
This is def the notify.wav. We can never get rid of the message from o2 as that is a network feature as previously mentioned.
Replace notify.wav with a blank wav sound. This will make it less annoying.
