Greetings,
I'm having a problem when connecting my TyTN to my Thinkpad T43. When I connect the TyTN to a USB port (regardless of which one) on the laptop, it connects initially and starts charging, but after a while it disconnects, the charge light goes out and Windows puts up a message saying that the USB port has malfunctioned.
Unplugging and switching to a different USB port does not help, and I've tried a different USB cord without any change.
It seems a bit intermittent because right now as I'm writing this, it has stayed connected for quite a while.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem - I'd like to try to figure out if it is a hardware problem with the TyTN, something specific to Vista, or a problem with the Thinkpad itself.
Maybe the TyTN is drawing too much power from the USB port while charging?

I get a rather frustrating mesaage when I connect my O2 Exec via the USB port. It takes about 3 time before the connection with the comp finally happen.
The message is - 'USB Device not recognised' ' One of the USB devices has malfunctioned ........'.
Does anybody else have this problem and can anybody help?
Yep
I get the same problem but only with one PC. It happens on either USB port and is not helped by adding a USB hub. As such i am investigating the problem as if it is PC based.
Is this with ActiveSync or CardExport? Either way try rebooting PC first, wait for it to finish loading Windows. Power off your Universal, connect cable to Universal and PC then power on Universal. Seems to work okay for me. If you are using CardExport, remember you can't change modes while connected.

I have an O2 xda mini and that connects first time every time.
Found it strange that the Exec did not do same!
I have this on one PC - make sure the XDA is turned off first. Then plug the USB cable in and it should power up by itself and get recognised by the PC.
Also make sure you are using the very latest ActivSync (4.1 I believe).
Thanks lads - connect the cable while the Exec was off and it cobnnects first time. Good stuff!!
Why is that?
I think its the phone not the pc that is at fault, as i had a usb car charger and a usb power charger, both using a standard usb lead and the same fault applies, obviously just charging, AS wouldnt happen would it lol.
me missus just got a wizard and none of these faults occur on it
I concur that the plugging in USB while Uni is switched off is much more successful. Can I check with you guys - can you activesync by USB while bluetooth is on? I've not been successful with that.

I have read a no. of posts regarding the subject problem but found no solution. My O2 Exec is not connecting to PC with USB. Even in Bootloader, it shows usb on top when connected to the cable but is not detectable to even MaUpgradeUt_noID.
One other thing is that when its connected to PC through USB and switched on, it stop the charging and only resumes if switched off again.
Can any body tell me how to know whether USB port is working properly and solve this problem.
Hello,
Its been few months now that I have this issue, and wasn't able to solve it yet
Every time I connect my TyTN/ Hermes on the USB port of my laptop it causes a n immediate reboot. Even when the Laptop starts again when the usb ports are reactivated (the Hermes is still plugged-in) it reboots again and again ...
This is very inconvenient (...) I would say because I can neither Sync (Activesync 4.5) nor recharge my TyTN through the USB port. Even if I disable communications on activesync it does the same ...
Any ideas? anyone had similar issues?
Thanks a lot

yasou christoforos,
what happens when you plug in other USB devices, like a portable storage device or a mouse or something? Something could be wrong with your motherboard or hopefully just the OS. What model laptop is it?
I have a HTC TOUCH HD, I can not connect all'Active Sync, I tried several computers but I do not recognize the smartphone anywhere. When you restart the HTC so provisional bottom line on the white seems to me not written but Serial USB, the device to a USB seems my friend, I think that is the problem, someone help me know?
First of all have you ever been able to use the USB port on your phone to sync. If yes then it is possible a setting has changed. Go to Start><Settings>Connections and USB to PC. There is a tickbox for Faster Data, Try both ticking and unticking the box. If this does not work then i would Start with uninstalling and reinstalling Active sync for XP and WMDC if you are on Vista.
If this Fails then try Hard Resetting your phone to see if this helps at all. If you have never been able to USB it i possble there is a fault on the Port. Also does the phone charge? this uses the USB and if it does not charge then you know you have a fault.
tnx
The phone is charging when the battery is not fully discharged.
If the battery is discharged only half does not load, it's something very strange.
Then I noticed that pressing Power button down and you start your phone in foil and colored ce SERIAL written while on the phone to my friend's USB ce, this could be the problem?
Before working with usb port

Uppppppppppppppppppppppppp
it's very likely the USB port is damaged
So, if I leave my N1 connected to my PC (Win XP Pro SP3), either just idling or transferring large files (> about 50mb) it'll just dismount. Randomly.
I can't duplicate the problem exactly, but it does it all the time.
I had the same problem with my old Magic, and I've had it on various PCs.
Anyone had similar problems, or is it just me?
By my understanding, this happens if the Nexus gets insufficient power from USB to charge the battery and support the USB connection. This is usually not Nexus'es fault, but computer's fault (some computers don't have up-to-spec power in USB ports).
I always got these problems when I connected my Nexus through an unpowered USB hub. As soon as I connected the hub's power block, the issue disappeared.

That makes sense. It charges REALLY slowly on my work PC.
Thanks!
