I've just bougth my new PDA HTC TyTN, which is amazing because it has everything! PPC 5, GSM Quadband, EDGE, 3G, Bluetooth 2, WiFi both 11b/g...... I dont even have the video alignment problem quite a lot reported around here, and my serial is HT628. Lucky me because I bougth an English version in Sweden, but I'm using it in Colombia!! (hard to reach any support, eh?)
The only problem I'm having now is that I can not connect to the WLAN in my office because the encryption they use is AES (Authentication WPA-PSK). When I try to create the connection on my PPC, I can set the Auth. to WPA-PSK, but the only option available for encryption is TKIP!!!.
Is that a hardware or software limitation? I can not find on the web topics about it... the provider doesn't have any comment about it his web page. Do I have to ask the company to lower the encryption used? (dont think they will do it because of me!!!) or is there any other solution to get connected via WiFI?
hi,
i am struggeling with this issue since weeks. In my opinion its a software issue and it has not yet built in to the ROM's. So i believe its a AKU problem which might solved after changing AKU to 3.x.
Take a look at this thread there is a beta ROM which should support WPA2 but it does not work yet. Seems to wait until HTC is releasing the AKU 3.x on the TyTN too.
Solution during the issue ... ask your company to setup a WiFi connection with WEP this is the only thing i got to work on my TyTN so far.
Good luck
Windows CE 5.0 and thus Windows Mobile 5.0 seem to not suport AES due to it's CPU requirements.
But you don't want to go back to insecure WEP. Ask for WPA/TKIP instead of WPA2 (WPA/AES). Worked like a charm for me.
If somebody gets LEAP (Cisco AP) working, please let me know how.

I'm not so exited to try a ROM upgrade just for this, and even less if it's not sure it will work. So I'll try to convince people here in the office to use TKIP, not sure they'll do it just for me, but I'll try anyway!.
As i said, its a OS update which will allow in the AKU (Adaptation Kit Update) enabling the WPA2. Look at the attached Picture which also can be found here

Any word on when HTC will be releasing a ROM with AKU 3?
Would love to be able to use my Hermes with my new pre-n wireless router with WPA2 encryption. I cannot get the extended range without it. Any word on when HTC will be releasing a ROM with AKU 3 included?
I have aku 3.3.0 on my hermes. Why do I not see WPA2? I would like to migrate to this for my home network, but this device holds me from doing so.

Hi,
iam using a QTEK 9100 device (german version). At every official QTEK Website they made a statement, that the device supports the fast WLAN G standard.
I tried it at once as soon as i got my device. Unfortunately it can only connect to b Standard. What a pitty. Why do they state wrong informations at QTEK websites?
Does anyone made the same experiences?
Do you know, where i can get a ROM Update from QTEK?
At the german webpage http://www.myqtek.com/germany/home.aspx i dont get support at all: As soon as i want to register there and type the imei number in, i get: "This device is not a supported one from Brightpoint".
Who may i contact in case of any problems or questions to the product?

Don't forget to mention that it works only with the speed of 802.11b en not on 802.11g....!
The only plus is you can connect to 802.11g router but it is still 11 Mps and NOT 54 Mps like 802.11g....!
I dont understand. Does it now the g standard inclusive the 54 MB/s speed or does it only connect to g-only routers and drives a lower speed
you do not notice differentiated, simply only a hype with this 802.11g feature, nobody needs this.
regards
I agree, it is mostly hype, as even if your internet connection was faster than 11Mbs PIE wouldn't be able to render pages fast enough to keep up. On transfering files, I don't believe that the memory setup of the 9100 would be able to write files 'much' faster either.
The only time when it is important is for the rare situations when someone might have a wireless router setup for G connections only
A lot of wlan routers which i have contact with, are configured in g only mode. What a pity. All routers have to be reconfigured...
or flash your device with english rom

:WHS: I have a 100mb to my PC here ( LAN ) and with my cabling I could have a Gb - but... would it make make diffrence if I did ? No - unless your shiffting GB files I see no need... and the same goes for B & G.... ( and how many GB files will you process on your Wizard.

PS - At least in the UK I have 2Mb Broad band how ever even if I went up to 8Mb the up stream will still always be 256k... not sure about ADSL2 & 2+ TBH
Hello
Thank you for all these informations but :
I have my qtek with Windows in French, if i use the ROM ENG to be able to connect on g router with my QTEK, my os will stay in french or will become in english?
Let me know
Regards
If you use an english ROM, the OS will be in english too
Hi,
In order to establish 802.11G connection you need to select it in your router/PC's settings (G-mode) and choose maximum performance in your Wizard. The speed is indeed boosts when you try to access network shares
Only wondering why I can read on my english Qtek box WLAN 802.11 b? The white boxlabel says "Qtek 9100 PDA phone-WWE".

I have the same typo on my qtek9100 box ;-) But once connected in 802.11g I was really happy ;-)))
802.11g does make sense!
I agree that on the Wizard the 802.11g may not have visible effects if you're the only user on your AP/Router.
However, having 54Mbps (really 25Mbps) instead of 11Mbps (really 6Mbps) does make a difference if you start having multiple devices with a need for bandwidth. Typical use is for VoIP: you can support more clients on a single AP.
Again, not very useful for a single casual user, but in the enterprise market, it DOES make sense...
That being said, it's all screwed up if you have .11b devices attached as well cause you'll end up with the protection bit set and that has a serious impact on the bandwidth...
Typically, if you use Skype on your Wizard, amd you stream DVD over your WLAN at home as I do, you're plenty happy that all your devices support .11g.
I'd love a wizard with 802.11b+802.11a and CCX support...
Cheers,
Hal.
Nevertheless: Has anybody an answer of the other original question:
Where do i get a new ROM from QTEK. Has anybody ever done a ROM Update with an official QTEK ROM with any device?
QTEK ROM's
Yes, I would also like to know this. I have seen on the FTP that there is a QTEK ROM. Where did it come from? I have a Spanish ROM installed in my QTEK and wanted a copy of the ROM so I can go back to it after I experiment with my Universal but I don't know where to get it? Does anyone know where to get the QTEK ROMs be it English, SPanis, German?

Hi there,
I tried to get any feedback from Myqtek as well for my German Qtek 9100, but I receive the same error message, saying: Wrong IMEI Number, Brightpoint will not support this product, please contact you dealer for support. :?
This is very disappointing from Qtek, and maybeI will sent this one back and change either to T-Mobiles Version or to Imate.
It is a shame  that there is not even a support section within Qtek, but funny enough under qtek.gr (the Greece Website), there you find firmware updates etc. :?

My Qtek Wizard establishes connections up to the full 54 MBit/s (usually @18 Mbit/s, depending on radio quality and power saving settings).
Regarding the German Qtek support, I'm kind of appalled, too!
Any IMEI is being denied while trying to send a support inquiry.
On the first phone number given on their website (+49 (0) 28 22 / 98 10 - 200) no one answers.
On the second phone number (+49 (0) 28 22 / 98 10 - 100) a fax answers.
They don't even habe a real support section on their website, except for a simple mail form, that won't accept our IMEIs, when sending.
What kind of dilettantes are these guys, distributing high-tech products without any support!?
I have O2 Exec which I flashed months ago with the i-mate Jasjar rom.
I hope i-mate won't forget JJ users like they always do forget their customers after about two rom upgrades. They did that with the i-mate PDA2K which I was one of the first to purchase only to leave us with numerous bugs and only one or two rom updates.
I am wondering if there's a newer ROM than what I have
ROM version: 1.30.76 WWE
ROM date: 02/20/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version: 42.42.P8
Still got pretty annoying issues with the machine (same i did with the PDA2k).
Sometimes won't connect to UMTS/GPRS - soft reset needed.
Sometimes won't dial phone numbers i always dial - says 'can't complete the command' or some similar ****.
Sometimes will look for the network endlessly. at times I see i don't get calls and check only to see that the machine was 'searching' for network for hours.
Sometimes machine won't wake up to alerts. It's only when I get a phone call that it awakes it and then i hear all the alarms.
These are all stuff making the machine a nice game, but not something sturdy and reliable you can count on. I new each ROM is usually better and was wondering if there's anything better that I already have.
Thanks guys.
go get Dopod 1.30 or Qtek 1.30 that will be better for you
The latest one is T-Mobile NL ROM 130.115. the second latest is T-Mobile UK Rom 130.114... Third Latest is Dopod WWE Rom 130.111. Forth is Xda Exec Rom 130.107... Fifth Latest is VodaPhone WWE 130.97... Qtek is 6th with 130.77 and I-mate is 7th with 130.76
Has anyone heard if I-mate is going to release a new ROM with A2DP?
I know we can hack/install other ROMs with A2DP, but before I go through the hassle of an update (re-entering all of my data service & e-mail settings, and then re-installing software), I was wondering if a new official I-mate ROM is immanent???
Hi all, first post here. Great board BTW.
I took the plunge and picked up a used TYTN about a week ago. Nothing but headaches since Primarily, it has focussed around the "No GSM" error. I've read through the wiki. I downgraded to the 1.04 Bootloader, and applied the fix. Unfortunately, it appears to be temporary; the No GSM seems to come back. I have only been able to place 2 phone calls sucessfully in the last four days, and no text messages. Anyhow, before I run through all the problems and what I have done, perhaps someone who has an HTC TYTN working smoothly on the Rogers Network in Canada could post or PM me with their firmware versions (ROM, ExtROM, Radio, Bootloader, etc). If the same is available for d/l I will flash mine to the same and see if that does the trick...
Thanks for your assistance!
MM
At this moment what radio are you using?

I puchased an almost new HTC TyTN from Mad Monkey Boy about six months ago. It was running the factory stock ROM at the time. I SuperCID'd the device, then installed the South African 1.35 ROM (the complete ROM, yeah I know, it ups the bootloader version, no prob for me as I'd rather have a stable device than "hack" it). I just recently installed the AKU 3.3 WWE test ROM. The only thing I have had to do to make it work with Rogers is to create the GPRS connection (User: wapuser1, Password: wap, APN: internet.com, or vpn.com if you pay the extra $10 a month for a public IP address).
The initial ROM was very slow and very buggy. The 1.35 ROM speeded the device up a bit and much more stable, but still problems with BT A2DP and WMP losing its metadata. The new AKU 3.3 test ROM has been working very well for me, still problems with BT A2DP but no other issues to speak of yet and even faster than its predecessors.

Hi John & Phamoui,
thanks for the quick replies. Pham - I've dropped it off back at the shop where I got it so i'm not 100% sure now. I think the "No GSM" fix put it back to a 1.16 series. They uppped it with the "latest" shipped ROM. I think this was probably the one at the top of the list of available ones here. 1.35 or 1.35 series radio. Sorry for the Lack of detail in this post - I don't have the unit here at the moment.
John - thanks for the info. that should give me a stable starting point.

I've never had any problems with my TyTN on Rogers.
Currently I'm on the SA 1.35 ROM and 1.27 Radio.
I'm still reading up on the new AKU 3.3 before I decide to install it. I've still got to decide on which one to install or wait for the non-TEST HTC version.
Hi, I live in Austin but I have a Rogers SIM card for my Vancouver # (I had a job there temporarily in September/October).
Can you give me the settings for Rogers GPRS and MMS for TyTN (I have the 8525 but I am running the HTC 2.05 ROM).
Thanks!!!

James,
The GPRS/UMTS settings are as follows:
Access point name: internet.com OR vpn.com (depending on your level of data service)
User name: wapuser1
Password: wap
Domain: <leave blank>
I don't know what the MMS settings are as I don't use MMS.

Hi again,
After significant efforts by the fellows at SN Traders (good shop by the way), I have exchanged and gone with a new Cingular 8525 (Hermes 100). I have installed the WM6 XDA Live 0.20 ROM available here and it is running great so far.
So my latest Rogers/Tytn question: Has anyone been able to get the software for the Rogers pushmail? I spoke with a tech, who provided me with a couple links. I tried them, but no link to d/l the software. He advised that he thinks it is because my device is not locked to Rogers and running their software. He states that they do not have access to the CAB files directly as they come from some third party (I've forgotted but something like Verio...) Anyhow, anyone have success in obtaining/installing the software and getting Rogers push email working?
Thanks,
MM
Any solution for use this service on polaris????
I'm not be able to retrive PIN:code.

Hi
BlackBerry Connect is hard coded via the BES Server you connect to. It will only allow you to run BBC on 'approved ROMs' (i.e. WM6.0 only and specific radio stacks only). If your device and stack aren't right you will connect momentarily and then you will be disconnected,
There is a german o2 ROM that supports BBC but I've not seen that in a while and you'll have to search for it.
Yours
Leon
this isnt true!
Radio Stack Version isnt checkt via BBC! They only check OS Version, AKU Value and Device Name. Some times the check your Provider too!
If BBC doesnt work ... mess around with the AKU Version. The easiest way to get it up and rounding ... use original Polaris Firmware.
I still don't know anyone who's been able to get it to work. This has been discussed in several different threads. Here's one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2091924#post2091924
I am using Exchange push mail now, which in my opinion is better anyway. The BC software is a resource hog and if Exchange is an option for you, I advise that route.
ok, here is another one. i have a orbit 2 (htc-polaris), bebe's ROM 0.67, vodafone germany blackberry SIM and version 4.0.0.97.
i dont get any PIN (Pending) and no stable connection.
but it seems there are workarounds by changing settings in registry, to let blackberry think you have another configuration. but i dont know any details.
anyone managed it to work?
