I am wondering where the password information is stored for the cingular gprs settings. I am not asking how to enter the settings into the dialogues, rather where in the registrythe password info is stored.
I am aware of the settings located at these two locations...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}]
and
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\My ISP GPRS]
Exporting/importing these restores everything but the username/password info. What I am trying to do is save the settings so I will be able to more quickly restore them after a hard reset, which I do often because I am constantly playing with different roms.
or... is there already a premade cab file that will install the needed settings including cingular's generic username/password?
and for that matter, where is the password stored for activesync? After I import a reg file I have on my phone, I have all the activesync info properly entered except for the password.
I realize these are one time items to have to enter, but it would certainly make system rebuilding go a bit faster...
I hope you managed to get this far into this rather overly verbose essay.
found it.
hell yes:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\CredMan\Creds]
I am cool.
Okay, the question I have then is how did you figure it out, and more importantly, how do you know which key is associated to which connection?
Some crappy registry snapshot program
It is called ssnap, that coupled with a program called idiff, I was able to discover changes made to the registry after doing something (check/uncheck something, enter a setting, etc...)
http://s-k.al.ru/wince.html
If anyone knows a better program than these rather primitive monsters, please let me know. I am looking for something similar to installwatch for the PC by Epsilon Squared.
Those settings did not work anyway. That was definately the location where the settings were stored, but they must be coupled with something else. I was able to install and uninstall the username/password by setting/removing those registry entries, but after a hard reset, they did not work anymore.

Ive been trying to find where i can change the username/password combination for a gprs or wap internet connection.
the only thing i can find is the initial prompt when i first dial the connection, but surely it can be changed at a later stage.
Does anyone know how to get into these settings?
passwords
i think these are server based passwords, not something a user can change. you will have your own security set up on your xda, the passwords used are login passwords
yes but i want to change them as my access passwords are different depending on which sim card i use.
I know, it is really annoying. If you select the option "Save Password", I couldn't find a way to change the password.
Either you may create another connection with different name having different username or password.
There is a way to find out the stored username.
Run a registry editor, and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Comm->RasBook and look for your connection listed in the tree.
I believe the only way to reset the password is to remove the registry entry (or the modem entry in connection manager) and create a new connection, though I don't believe it to be a bright idea.
While on the subject, I discovered that if you delete the connection:
Settings->Connections->Modify->General Tab, the modem connection neither gets deleted nor is displayed. If you try to create another modem connection of the same name, it just says that modem already exists, but does not show up.
I'm on Tmob USA's GPRS which works fine, except certain pages (like the html full version of google) or blogger.com just will not load over GPRS. I've tried some registry tweaks to make my browser look like another browser and some other tweaks that were recomended and I still have no luck.
I believe another JasJar user was able to set the preferences at Google to always load pages as HTML, but over GPRS I can't save my preferences on that page to do so. Over wifi I'm able to connect to any page just fine (and I've set my google preferences to HTML from the device on wifi), so I believe somewhere the device is changing the settings depending upon my connection method.
This is one of my last JasJar bugs that's driving me nuts. Please help if you can!
Really, no one else is having this problem? crap....
After my last hard reset google keeps diverting to www.google.co.uk/pda. I think that's because I haven't used Tweaks2k2 to change a few bits, as I normally do, but you can still view 'proper' google, by going into preferences (on the website) and changing the default to 'HTML'

See, I tried that with no luck. When I navigate to the preferences page over GPRS it fails to save my preferences, literally every time it times out. When I use Wifi I can navigate to the preferences page and save the preference for full HTML, but it still doesn't load when using GPRS. It's pretty clear that it's using a different set of connection settings when the connection is made via GPRS. What settings do you use with Tweaks2k2? Maybe that will work for me...
As I see it, there are three possible reasons:
1) The connection is not a full internet GPRS connection and maybe instead going to a "walled garden", or using WAP
Go to settings, connections, connections, Manage existing connections and duplicate the settings from your Universal onto another device capable of taking your SIM card. Try that sim card in another device with the same connection settings. I expect you'll get the same results. If so, post the settings here
2) Tweaks has done something undesired. Can you list a few websites that are failing? Personally, I'm reluctant to install ANY software until I'm 100% convinced I need it. This applies also to my desktop and trippley so to my server
3) Blame the user
I reckon it's 1)
I just set it to recognise pIE as IE6.0
I'm not convinced that that's going to fix the problem you have though, because I'm sure that I've had that problem on other PPC phones which I never used Tweaks2k2 on, and there was some other way to fix it.
I'll have a play around and see what I can come up with...

Some interesting ideas there. Some of the sites that are failing include:
www.google.com - I can't access the full version and the PDA version hangs constantly during loading and loads results very slow, no images shown when image search is done.
www.blogger.com - It tries to load www.blogger.com/start which again hangs terribly and loads a version of the page with no images.
Various internet shortcuts I imported over from my bookmarks I used on my Dell Axim X30 (PPC2003SE). I'll have to pull a list later if I'm still having this problem.
I don't have another PPC Phone device so I can't try the settings swap but it does sound very likely. I am currently using the cab file from imate for tmobile USA settings (which does create a connection called "tzones" which kinda worries me), it uses the internet2.voicestream.com access poin. I had also manually configured the settings previously using these settings and still had the same problem (pulled from a hofo post by Mashie):
Goto Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Add new ISP...
Give it a name (T-Mobile)
Select Cellular Line (GPRS)
Next
APN = wap.voicestream.com or internet2.voicestream.com (whichever you like)
Next
Next
Finish
leave username, password, domain, etc... all blank

But maybe I need to try some different settings... I'll try playing with the settings I have, creating new settings, and hounding some other Tmob USA GPRS user's settings (hopefully someone using another jasjar).
Re: #2, I haven't actually used Tweaks, I used Resco registry editor to try and make the browser appear to be a full PC browser. I tried a ton of registry settings suggested by some more Hofo super-users, but nothing worked. I eventually got really creative and desperate with some registry edits and finally hard reset the device, tried the suggested reg edits again without success, then hard reset again.
Re: #3 - lol. I seem to be the only one with this problem, so I'm not rulling it out... I was a bit worried someone was going to suggest that the PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair).
www.hotmail.com and www.handango.com are sites I have experienced cannot be accessed in their full PC version. The PIE on the JJ takes us to the mobile sites.
Likewise a strange thing happens when I try to log into the "PocketPCDubai Forums". PIE starts to download the site page. I can see the progress indicator gradually move up. When about 180 Kb has been downloaded the progress indicator disappears meaning that the page has fully been downloaded. Nevertheless the page is blank and with nothing on it.
I also have tried to modify the registry to make the PIE appear as a full browser but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone had this issue and resolved it via ROM upgrade? I'd be ready to upgrade the ROM right away if I knew it fixed this issue. If not, I'd rather not waste a few hours setting up, reinstalling, and configuring everything.
Does Mozilla Minimo work on the JasJar?
If it does - I believe that might offer a more feature full alternative to the bundled pocket PC InternetExplorer Galt.
Hope this helps
Finally remembered the address that I used to use for Google when I had this problem on my Jam...
http://www.google.com/webhp
That wont redirect you to the /pda page. There are probably similar pages for other websites, but this is the one I used most!
This registry hack will make Pocket Internet Explorer identify itself as IE 5.5 on Windows 2000. However it will prevent web sites that provide Pocket PC specific content to be able to know you're actually using a Pocket PC
Change Pocket IE to IE Version 5.5 (For Secured Sites)
1) Go to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\?CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\ key. 2) Set the default value to "Mozilla/4.0" (Default is "Mozilla/2.0"). 3) Set the "Version" value to "MSIE 5.5" (Default is "MSIE 3.02"). 4) Set the "Platform" value to "Windows NT 5.0" (Default is "Windows CE").
This will only work on some secure sites that check version number rather than perform a check for support of secured transactions.

Tried that, although it loaded the main page (I think I had it cached from wifi browsing) it didn't let me search from there.
I finally upgraded my ROM to the latest 1.13.53 version and still couldn't resolve this with alternate URLs or registry edits. Any ideas, anyone? I'm using the T-mob USA cab settings from imate...
Hi everybody!
I have a little problem. I've set up a home network with a wireless router. I shared some folders on my PC so I can access the files from my Jamin.
So far so good, I managed to access the folders from PIE.
The problems started when I wanted to change user name and password. When I enter a network path PIE pops up a screen asking for user, password and domain. I made the mistake of checking 'remember password' box and now I can't get to this screen again so I can't change the login and access shares on my company network.
So how do I get explorer to ask for a password again? (without doing hard reset)
Or is there an app to manage this thing? I tried pocketLAN but it doesn't have this option.
Thanks in advance.
have yoy tried to look in the registry for key's about this?
had the same problem on accessing a website.
using regedit i found an entry in registry with the userid, deleted that entry and the next time i was asked for the password again.
hope this helpes
Actually, this is the first thing I tried.
Looked for the user name, then for computer name but all I got was the AS regs.
Maybe it was me, or the PHM reg edit.
Ether way, I solved it by changing the password, but if you fined that key again some time I would appreciate the info, and maybe someone else will two.
At least I learned my lesson: Never ever ever click the 'remember password box' darn M$. :x
Thank for the reply though.
i did a find of a userid which i used and found it in registry via the find options and a search in the entire registry.
it was found in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Activesync\Partners\.....
maybe this helpes?
Thanks for the effort, but this just kill the partnership to the PC. (Yep, tried it and was sorry).
So far changing the password seems to be the only solution (there are a couple more threads on similar issues).
Looks like another MS screw up.
i read a few things about changing some settings so you can fool internet sites to think your phone is a regular pc. for example when i try to login my paypal account, it recognizes me as a phone and tried to kick me to a mobile site.
can anyone help with this?
If I'm not mistaken ... opera browser has settings that say "identify as: Desktop/PDA/whatever is left there"
Hope that helps,
w
PIEPlus lets you change what PIE identifies as, a program I wouldn't do without, but you can do it manually by editing the registry, I don't happen to know the location of the entry at the moment though, sorry.
edit
"HKCU/Software/microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main" is the location, and I think you change the "UA-Platform"..dunno what to put in there though, the wiki might even have this info, btw
Tweaks2k2 also has a setting to show PIE as IE6. With a bit of checking might be able to identify which setting in registry is changed.
I ca check on Chaoticdruids:
"HKCU/Software/microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main" is the location, and I think you change the "UA-Platform"..
Can't do this for a couple of hours though. At work Tehehe!!!
Mike
My bad, I actually took the time to check and its "HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft /Windows/CurrentVersion /Internet Settings/5.0/User Agent/" change the "Version" value to "MSIE 6.0" and the "platform" value to "Windows NT 5.1"
and then go into "HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft /Windows/CurrentVersion /Internet Settings/5.0/User Agent/Post Platform" and change the "PPC; 240x320" to "SV1"
There might be some more changes too, but I have an eye dr appt in about 45 min, I think a piece of a rosebush is stuck in my eye, I just swapped back and forth between settings real quick in PIEPlus, and noted the changes...very good chance I missed some.

Okay, I loaded tweaks2k2 and tried to go to and access my bank accounts on line. when I enter my username and password, chase goes to a screen where it loads your accounts and forwards you to another page where then you can see your accounts. during the please wait... your accounts are loading the phone hangs and will not be forwarded to the next page... is this like a java scripting error or am I doing something wrong.
I want to automatically select the default network to which the device connects
(the first combo in Settings->WirelessControls->menu->Connections->Advanced->SelectNetworks -
See attached image)
My problem is as follows -
When I set up the connection to the operator -
it sets the default network to be <<3G Portal>>
I want to automatically change it to <<Internet 3G>>
(Or in the worst case -
Automatically delete the <<3G Portal>> -
making the <<Internet 3G>> the only available option -
which will force it to be default)
Does anyone know how to do this ?
(Even if some Cpp/C# code is needed - does anyone know the API ?)
Thanks
Not a lot of sense there
Looking at the screen print
The phone is set up to access the web FIRST via the 3G portal (every phone needs a portal to get online).
The second option looks to me to be a WIFI connection. Wifi always take priority over gprs/3g/hspa
so unless you can make a bit more clear what your looking for......................
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Of course, if you mean a different web access point get the APN settings and manualy add then from the settings menu - wireless and networks access point names - press the menu button - add apn
As I understand your Q, you wanna auto set the default network without having to manually change it everytime you hard reset / change roms?
Here's what I do for such things.
Get ceregistry editor, connect to your phone, export the registry to file, then, on the phone, change the default access point to the one you would rather it was, (possibly reboot phone here to be sure the registry has changed the default apn,) back into ceregistry editor, compare current registry to the snapshot, figure out which key changed, and to what value, then provision that reg key (via a cab, or provxml,) whenever you hard reset, after the network has been set up. (I have a cab with dozens of tweaks in it,you can just keep adding to it)

Thanks for the reply.
Both connections are over the Cellular network.
The first one (3G Portal) is set up by the operator to go via some proxies and stuff, which block certain services/sites as they are not stored on this proxy.
The Second one is "unfiltered" internet connection over the Cellular network.
Whenever the network is detected and set up, the settings are automaticelly set to go via the "proxied" connection.
I want to change it to work over the unfiltered connection.
I would like to know the registry keys or any other place this information is kept, so I could automatically change it.
I tried searching the registry for these values but could not get to a definite conclusion about where exactly the "default connection" is stored, or if it is stored in the registry altogether.
(If it is stored in the registry - I do NOT want a complete registry import/export - just the relevant keys)
Many thanks in advance.
Yes it is stored in the reg, but it stores an ID for each connection which is different for everyone, hence the method I suggested which would reveal both the key and the ID, I wasn't suggesting you import a whole registry, simply make a cab of just the one key. It would take about 10 mins to do, but I'm not running winmo so can't lookup the key for you.

Try using Data Controller by Red Frogfish. With this app, you can turn on and off all of your different connections indvidually.
Since, I have T-Mobile, I have the following connections:
T-Mobile Data
T-Mobile MMS
T-Mobile Internet
And, Data Controller lets turn each on or off as needed/wanted.
