Possible IR problems? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi, just got my new XDA mini S.
Got it second-hand and not sure if there is a problem with the IR sensor/port...I've installed Noviiremote 4 and when I go into the IR Setup of the app it shows two entries for Infrared. The autoselect feature of the app selects an empty port number. I tried changing it to one of the Infrared ports but I can't get the app working. Surely I should just have one IR port - the one on the side of the device? App is not cracked it is the trial version from the proper site.
Does this sound like a problem with the device or the app? I'm pretty new to the XDA but have had smart phones before....
Any advice appreciated.
ROM version: 1.5.4.2 WWE

Try sending some files from the IR to your PC. I'm not sure about the IR program you are refering to, but in some cases, the software will detect things that is not what it think it is. Example, when I chat using web cam on my MSN, by default, the MSN will take my USB-TV-adapter as the web cam. It took me quite a while to figure out this problem.
Anyway, just test your IR, make sure it works. And try your IR program with both of those different ports. One of them maybe a 'phantom' port.. or probly the bluetooth port that the IR software thinks is a IR port.

Thanks for the advice, I sent something to another phone with the IR port so I know that's ok now. I'll keep trying different settings with the app and see if I get any results...

Cannot connect through infra red

Please help me solve infrared problem with my device since i am not able to sync using IrDA. This is a problem that I cannot resolve and I wish that somebody could really help me and tell me the possible resolutions taking into consideration that I dont have any keyboard or any external hardware attatched to my pocket pc So please I would appreciate Any assistance.
Zimo
I have similar problem with AT&T PPC2002 (XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2). The phone was bought with this ROM, so I didn’t try with other versions.
When I run ‘infrared receive’ application or try to beam any file my phone simply hung till I soft-reset it. It may be the conflict with other programs but I not sure. How to check who else uses IRDA and how to remove those programs/conflicts?
Help please
the idea is that can any body from the developer team help us ?
Haloo zimo, the main idea here is that you should make sure of
1)the Ir port on you PC or lap top is working as some IR ports does not work with all devices like Y140 "SigmaY140"
2)You should start the active sync from the device not the pc
I hope my experince with your problem give you help ,if you need more help you can contact me (I live in cairo too)
I am still trying to find a way to assign a "virtual" port to the irda, I am trying to get tomtom2 working with an infrared gps connection but if I choose infrared port it locks the machine up, beams is unchecked, tomtom will work on any ipaq with tomtom irda after choosing the "generic irda" port shown in gps settings. Any help appreciated.
i good thing to try is to see if you can beam stuff to the pc
when i want to connect i
choose the Infrared receive
in programs then i place the xda about
10cm from the infrered port on the
pc
then i go back to the today of cause leaving the
infrared receive running
and i try to beam and it works
then i open activ sync and choose connect using infrared
and ....
I have the very current asian rom. But am still having the same problems with IrDA connections. The device would refuse any transmission from the pc running XPpro. Don't know why. After installing 'Peacemaker', it worked seamlessly.
The bugging question. Why does it need an aftermarket software to run on the device where the IrDA drivers comes stock standard with microsoft?
The best part is, my old nokia7650's IrDA works flawlessly with my pc without any additional software.
IrDa = Forsaken child in this high powered enviroment?
My problem is solved
I have sent my device to my local dealer and it was repaired with my waranty certificate. In fact it was found that the IR port of my XDA II was faulty , and they replaced it !
I do not think its the IrDA being broken. Much more like the s/w driver's fault as I could get it to work with Peacemaker s/w.
Though I do not use it often, it still gets on my nerve knowing that there's a flaw in the upgraded rom. Have to wait for another 6mths before I could return to my home country and send it for a checkup. Sigh....
I could not get my xda 2 to accept beamed file from my xda, if I choose receive from ppc200/hpc on xda 2 under setting/beams, it works properly but gives a failed error even though the contact/file is copied.

I canny control my TV!!

Hey peeps,
Iv downloaded Total Remote on my Xda2, but everytime i try to receive a signal from my tv remote control, it just says 'cannot read signal'. Iv also tried it with a dozen different remotes. My IR port works because iv recieved/sent files thu IR. Iv also used other programs like Iremote, with the same results. is there something im doing wrong? or do xda2's not like remotes?
can ne1 help?
cheers
alv
The XDA II can´t work as a remote, because the IR signal is to weak. You would need to hold it just a few inches from the TV for it to work, if it works att all. I have triend many many programs, and even tried to beam between two XDA II`s. Even then the signal is very very bad...
I wounder even why they included IR when it apparantly aint working.

To allow you to exchange contacts, appointments and so on with others w/o the need of Bluetooth - I use it all the time and wouldn't wanna miss it...
alvin5785, I hope you didn't waste your money and got a demo version first... using a PPC as a remotre control is in my eyes a ridiculous thing... you shouldn't be as desperate as that to find a use for your device...
i have an ir usb adaptor for my desktop
and my laptop also have ir this enable me to activesync
with them
well my desktop also have a bluetooth usb but thats a whole other story
i had the remote working on my xda1 but it only had a range of 30cm
and i heard that the ir dident work at all as remote with the xda2 but i've never tried it
if it does work there are ir amplyfiers you can make yourself and put infront of the xda and the range will be better

Modifing the ir port of XDA II, please your coments.

I have a XDA II and I would like to use it very much as a remote controler but unfortunately its port appear to be not compatible with the IR signals needed to work with common remote controlers, so I came up with a crazy idea and would like to know what you have to say.
I also have an RC500i from Marantz that has just stop working and I am about to retire it.
I also have Total Remote from Griffin that I already discused here, it can´t be used for learn because the module only transmit. This way it is almos useless, but I like the software and the module design.
I was thinking...
I could take the IR led (the one used to learn) from the Marantz and substitute from the one inside the XDA II, this way I have the possibility to learn but not transmit, but since I can use Total Remote to transmit this will not be a problem. The fact that I will not have anymore the capability to comunicate with other PDAs is also not a problem because I rarely use it.
With all this in mind I would like to know if it work that simply or if it is much more complicated because of technical insues.
What you think about this?
Thanks a lot
Felipe
Its not the LED that does the learning its the hardware/firmware attached to the led as far as I know, so changing them over will do nothing.
You won't get IR working on an XDA I/I/IIs or clones without additional hardware support.
The Griffin Total Remote is one such device, but the location of the XDA II headphone socket, and the need for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter make it a pain in the *ss to use.
Griffin TR can learn from other remotes, but the learning function uses the standard IR port, not the dongle. I have one which I use occasionally, but mainly now on an old Ipaq due to the socket arrangement. It learns basic functions well, but advanced functions seem not to transfer.
I'd wait for the NoviRemote Blaster to appear for the PPC next year- it uses an SDIO based transmitter.
Neil,
It appears that you are in the same situation as I am, because I also have the TR installed on my XDA II but it can´t learn at all so it is useless! To make things even more unsatisfield I got a pretty bad technical support from Griffin. So I am still looking for a way around.

i had wintv working without any problems with my xda1
and i had noviiRemote working without any problems on my xda2
with no extre hardware
range is not very good and you really need to hit correct to make it work but it does work
Felcas- Yes I rmember now, I could not get the XDA IR to learn- I did the learning on my old Ipaq, then copied the files across! The ergonimics still make it unusable though!
Rudegar- point taken about Noviremote, but with such short distances its easier to lean over and push the hardware button on the TV!

Thanks!!! You gave me a good solution. My girlfriend have an Ipaq 5550, I will install the TR on her PPC do everything I want and then copy to the XDA II

about giving it a longer range

would not advice people adding things internaly to the xda's it would likely be a bad idea

[Q] Android Universal remote

OK, well i have searched for about a week now and feel either it doesnt exist or im just not looking in the right place. I'm interested in programming a universal remote for my EVO but the problem i am having is finding the hardware to make it work.
What is needed:
Wifi to RF converter OR
Bluetooth to RF converter
Does anyone have any clue where to find one? You would think that with Iphones popularity with their phone attached junk someone would have gotten smart and made one that you could just sit next to your entertainment system so that you dont have to plug in a device to your phone....
Anyways, i didnt find anything on here, not online, nor in the underground layer of electronic geeks... jk. I dont have the skills to build my own device or i would. I'm taking computer engineering so maybe someday i will.
Any help from you gods at Xda would be appreciated.
You can buy a Bluetooth to Serial port converter, like this one:
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/+/Bluetooth-Serial-RS232-Adapter.7562.html
Maybe you could then find a serial or legacy IR transmitter device to send the IR signals to your devices. I'm assuming they are IR and not RF.
You could use something like this for the IR unit:
http://www.expansys.com/actisys-ird...=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=base
So you connect both units near your equipment, Power them somehow, point the IR device towards the Equipment, Connect via Bluetooth to the Serial Port Profile and assuming you are sending the right signal for the device you should have control.
Of course because it works both ways, you could 'Read back' the signal from your remote control into your android application and store it against the event you want to fire via your GUI controls. Simples.
hmmmm yes...I think that'll work
Logicalstep
I think the easiest solution would be to write an android app to use the ir dongles that plug into the headphone Jack. There are a couple out there... most of the iPhone adapters plug into the headphone jacks, I believe. Also there was one out for winmo years ago.
Anyways, I think they just convert audio signals into ir remote signals, so the app would just need the collection of audio signals for the various ir signals needed. I bet you could get one of the iPhone ir dongle companies to help out in writing an app, cause that would mean another market to buy their hardware.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I'm liking the first one. But not the single idea. Not. Many people I know would want to buy a single and risk losing it when you could have a stationary device sitting right there. Plus if it could be wifi connected then you could control it from anywhere.
Maybe I did not look hard enough, but I could not find a "similar" Android Universal Remote systems like the ones below for the iPhone. I'm looking for an Android UR application that allows an Android Smartphone, that has no IR, to interface to an existing IR blaster via WiFi or Blutooth to control AV components. It is possible that I miss it, so if someone can point me to one I'd appreciate it. If none is available, maybe someone can write an Android UR app that can interface with one the "existing" IR blasters that work with the iPhone. These IR blasters, as you can see below, are not that expensive.
I was impressed by how the UI is easily customizable in the iPhone app in the video for the UnityRemote... Who knows... maybe gear4 is already writing an Android app for it.

[Q] Can not connect EOS Camera to Tab 2

Good day everyone.
I've searched the site for any posts made about this subject but couldn't find any...so here it goes.
I've been using my Tab 2 for a while as a way to 'stream' the pictures I make with my Canon-camera to the display. Tethering as you may call it. I use a USB cable...not WiFi
The app I use is RYC Lite on a official Android 4.0.3 rom.
Since I upgraded the Tab to the official Android 4.1.2 rom it doesn't work anymore. I tried other apps but they won't recognize my camera.
When I connect the camera to the tablet it does say USB Connector Connected but that's all.
With 4.0.3 it used to say that it found a 450D, 50D or other DSLR that I connected before I would get a pop up with the question which app I would like to open.
I really don't know what's wrong...don't know if there are any missing or special camera detecting drivers which need to be installed first.
I hope someone can help me solve this problem cause it was a real handy feature.
Kind regard
LJ
