Cannot connect through infra red - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Please help me solve infrared problem with my device since i am not able to sync using IrDA. This is a problem that I cannot resolve and I wish that somebody could really help me and tell me the possible resolutions taking into consideration that I dont have any keyboard or any external hardware attatched to my pocket pc So please I would appreciate Any assistance.
Zimo

I have similar problem with AT&T PPC2002 (XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2). The phone was bought with this ROM, so I didn’t try with other versions.
When I run ‘infrared receive’ application or try to beam any file my phone simply hung till I soft-reset it. It may be the conflict with other programs but I not sure. How to check who else uses IRDA and how to remove those programs/conflicts?
Help please

the idea is that can any body from the developer team help us ?

Haloo zimo, the main idea here is that you should make sure of
1)the Ir port on you PC or lap top is working as some IR ports does not work with all devices like Y140 "SigmaY140"
2)You should start the active sync from the device not the pc
I hope my experince with your problem give you help ,if you need more help you can contact me (I live in cairo too)

I am still trying to find a way to assign a "virtual" port to the irda, I am trying to get tomtom2 working with an infrared gps connection but if I choose infrared port it locks the machine up, beams is unchecked, tomtom will work on any ipaq with tomtom irda after choosing the "generic irda" port shown in gps settings. Any help appreciated.

i good thing to try is to see if you can beam stuff to the pc
when i want to connect i
choose the Infrared receive
in programs then i place the xda about
10cm from the infrered port on the
pc
then i go back to the today of cause leaving the
infrared receive running
and i try to beam and it works
then i open activ sync and choose connect using infrared
and ....

I have the very current asian rom. But am still having the same problems with IrDA connections. The device would refuse any transmission from the pc running XPpro. Don't know why. After installing 'Peacemaker', it worked seamlessly.
The bugging question. Why does it need an aftermarket software to run on the device where the IrDA drivers comes stock standard with microsoft?
The best part is, my old nokia7650's IrDA works flawlessly with my pc without any additional software.
IrDa = Forsaken child in this high powered enviroment?

My problem is solved
I have sent my device to my local dealer and it was repaired with my waranty certificate. In fact it was found that the IR port of my XDA II was faulty , and they replaced it !

I do not think its the IrDA being broken. Much more like the s/w driver's fault as I could get it to work with Peacemaker s/w.
Though I do not use it often, it still gets on my nerve knowing that there's a flaw in the upgraded rom. Have to wait for another 6mths before I could return to my home country and send it for a checkup. Sigh....

I could not get my xda 2 to accept beamed file from my xda, if I choose receive from ppc200/hpc on xda 2 under setting/beams, it works properly but gives a failed error even though the contact/file is copied.

Bluetooth and Activesync

Hi All, great forum this found out loads of info.
I have a real problem.
My connector on the Handset has broke so not able to sync with laptop.
Brought bluetooth dongle se up as instructions on the forum site.
But it does not work.
When i try to sync with activesync on PDA it comes up with.
Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. The communitations port is not available,Another program may be using the port or it may not be valid.
Any ideas please.
in activesync on the PC have you selected the correct serial port that your bluetooth is acting as
I have the same probs.

Hi.
I spent hours and hours trying to sep up Activesync and I found these and sorted it:
Bluetooth Drivers:
First I removed the old Bluetooth drivers as they are not needed.
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=3163
Com ports:
Then I reset the com ports.

I found this a little tricky, but I did it like this (using SP2 BT drivers on XP):
1.Start off with the phone and computer unpaired
2.Open the bluetooth menu (double click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray).
3.Select the comm ports tab and click to add a new INCOMING port. - This port got assigned to something stupid like comm 36.
4.Open device manager, and select the comm port that has just been made.
5. Go to properties->port settings->advanced and change it to a lower end port you know isn't in use. I selected 3.
6. Reboot the computer (not sure if this was really needed)
7. On the phone go to start->settings->system-bluetooth settings and make sure the in and outgoing ports are selected (again not sure if thats essential, but I have it on and it works for me). Then press start.
8. Bond with your computer. There isnt anything that tells you if this has worked or not (which is very frustrating), so you just gotta click ok and test it.
9. In activesync go into the connections bit and tell it to list on the comm that you set in step 3. To get to this bit you have to have synced your phone through usb or something first.
10. on the phone go to activesync->tools->connect via bluetooth (remember to turn bluetooth on first). If everything has gone to plan then it should connect fine.
I did this a few times until suddenly it worked. I'm not sure what I did the time that it did work, but it was something, so I would suggest trying slightly different things each time, but I'm pretty sure it was that way.
The whole process of setting up activesync over bluetooth is really tedious imo, and could be greatly improved in many many ways.
Good luck and let me know if this works.

when i try to bond with my computer...why is it asking for a PIN CODE? im trying to connect my imate to the computer so i can sync thru bluetooth and possibly use the internet when i'm around the house. Can someone please help me?
i tried the search engine, but its no help for me.
of course it will ask for a pincode in both directions.. meaning your phone and PC.. but this for the first time connection only... so what you want to do is to set each other as an authorized counterpart of the other so that you will not have any confirmations again
ok...sorry for these noobie question...i have finaly established a connection with my PC.
is it possible for me to use the internet from my computer on my PDA thru BT? for example, i want to use AIM *AOL* instant message, but im not sure if there is an internet connection on my PDA thru bluetooth. How would i tell if there is a connection? if not, how do i connect? please help? thanks again in advance
If you go into activesync and under options-->rules at the bottom there is the option to share your net connection with the synced device (called pass-through). My XDA II pops up a message when its making a gprs connection.
Hi @ all,
I did not tested it again because I now have a synccable.
This works fine.
Thanks a lot for your great support!
I installed Mobile Navigon4 (Update4.2). Because of the fact that my audiospeaker is not working (Audio about Headset & BT-Headset works fine/speaker is not defect)here is my question:
Can I use the PPC in my car for navigation ?I want to use the BT-Headset for the navigation audio output.Does it work?

Infrared connection problem

Hi,
I have been trying to connect my SPV M5000 to my SmartPad2e via Infrared without success .
The SmartPad2e (notepad portfolio from Seiko Instruments USA inc.) is used to capture handwritten notes and drawings, instantly sending them to your PDA via the infrared port. Using the SmartPad2" application (InkNote Manager) you can save/view/edit your notes and drawings before sending them as email attachments.
I have exhausted all help from both Seiko support and Orange support and have been given this forum as the best place to contact someone who may be able to help or point be to somewhere for further support.
It would seem that the two devices have different types if infrared, which communicate at different speeds. A therefore neither device can understand the other to make a handshake (hope I got that terminology right :? ).
Anyway after all that introduction, does anybody here know of a driver (or something) that could slowdown the fast infrared port 1.1 on the SPV M5000 so it can communicate with my SmartPad2e :?:
David
Bump!
Does anybody know where I can find out further information on setting/controling infrared connections
Bump!
I still haven't been able to get this infrared connection issue to work.
Any ideas anyone
...did you try them both to connect to a pc to see if the problem then also exsist?...
I can connect my SPV M5000 to my laptop via infrared OK (shortcut icon displays on my desktop and a task bar icon indicate that my device is in range). But when I try to beam an image file to my device I receive and Wireless Link Error message which says "The transfer failed. An error occurred while Wireless Link was connecting to the other device. error code 0x274c has no description." If I try sending an image file from my device to my laptop it says "tap to send" I select then is says "pending" than after a while "failed". Is this a compatability use or have I missed a setup option on my SPV M5000?
The smartpad still works fine with my old PDA.
Do you need any futher information, can you advise/help
TIA
David
...i don't think it's any baudrate problem, but more of a kind of file-transport-protocol problem...
...found this in register, seems Bluetooth has same protocol as IR:
HKLM\software\microsoft\obex] protocols=bth,irda
Does SPV M3000 have BT possibility and if so can you also try to establish a connection with pc to find out if same kind of errors occurs?...
Unfortunately my laptop does not have bluetooth...
However I have successfully sent and received photos between mobile phones and my SPV M5000 using bluetooth.
I could ask a friend tomorrow if we can test bluetooth via their PC if this would help.

Request solution to IR connection issue

Still unable to make these two recognise each other.

1 - Bluetooth / 2- Activesync

This is more than one subject just saves me posting twice.
1. Bluetooth - Ok i know how to use bluetooth, but what im asking for is some help to find a program to use that can "explore" other devices, im sure my brother had this on and old pda! I also had a program called Bloover2, made by trifinite.org that attack other phones and suck information off hence Bloover - Bluetooth Hoover. Anyway its a J2ME program that works on my Nokia Series60, i cant find any sort of software anywhere that is any where near close to this sort of programs for O2 XDA MINI S or even any PPC.
2. Activesync - ok when i connect my phone it is connected straight away ( connected by USB ), but it says Revieving Settings or something like that, anyways it stay like that for ages but thats not what is bothering me, the problem i have is, i can download files from the DESKTOP computer onto my Xda Mini using the explore funtion on active sync, but i can download files off the Xda Mini to the DESKTOP it says transfering but does nothing! I have used the search function and used the AND inbetween words and its crap, (sorry to who made it) but i dont find anything relating to the search.
Anyway if anyone canmaybe shed some light on any of these matter i would be grateful
Thanks
i have the same problem.
any ideas?

You can try Smurf. It works with older WM Smartphones but it might work with the Wizard since they both use Microsoft's Bluetooth Stack.

Are you connected directly to the desktop or through a USB Hub?
What OS are you using on your desktop?
Are you using a sofware Firewall and if so, did you enable ActiveSync as an exception?
Have you tried using Bluetooth ActiveSync
i gave up with the usb cable, im using infared for now till i manage to sort it out, that smurf program i found but it didnt work too well. thanks for your help tho

Adding Bluetooth Ports

Hi all.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact, which I flashed with a big storage ROM I got from the FTP site (1.13.00 WWE). My device works fine, other than one thing.
I cannot establish an ActiveSync connection using Bluetooth. When I try to set up the connection on my device, when it comes to choosing which port I will use for the connection, there are none to choose from, and I am unable to complete the operation.
I can connect to other devices for file transfer Ok, and I don;t have any problems using a Bluetooth headset.
Does anyone know if there is an entry I can add to the registry to add a port manually, or if there is another way I can add a port?
Thanks.
Bump - can anyone help?
Thanks guys.
First of all pair your PC.
Then go to settings-tab system-Bluetooth settings and make sure you open your autbound COM port by clicking the checkox.
Press the button "start"
Goor luck!
Bruins3 - done what you said, but no joy. It tells me to then pair with my PC, even though it already is. Strangely, I can pair with my Magician from my PC, but not vice versa.
Once the two are paired, when I go to the COM ports tab in Bluetooth settings, I simply cannot add a port of any kind - no ports are listed in the drop-down box for me to select.
Help?
Red_five
Forget it, Dont sync your magician using Bluetooth.
Its a big waste of time.
Ive spent the last hour trying to get this to work, and it just annoying me.
I have made my Magician sync with my computer over bluetooth before, Using 'Bluesoleil'. It's some sort of stack/ program, and for some reason my Bluesoleil doesent work anymore.
But someone made a thread about it, very detailed, and i cant find it anymore. Try experiment, and id be glad to know if you can get it to work properly.
whitemoo.

Use OBD Reader for WM6

Hi,
I have an SX-66, and I used to used OBDGauge with W2003SE, the thing is I upgraded to WM6, and the program runs, but I get an error:
Error: Failed to open serial port
Does anyone know how to open a serial port under WM6?
I love this program and it works so well, I would hate to downgrade just to use it. I know it works for WM6, because a buddy of mine has the HTC Tilt and he uses the same program and it works fine for him.
If it is of any help, I use a ELM 323 connetion to serial.
If I figure it out, I will let you guys know how I did it.
--------
Also for those of you using WM6 on your SX66 with a BT GPS, I was able to connect mine when I used the BroadcomCorp_BT1.6.0.600 update.
I now connects flawlessly. Only thing is the connection takes a while to sync, like maybe 45-60 sec. I went from Miami, FL to Orlando, a 3 hour drive and it did not disconnect once. It also creates an extra Bluetooth file on my settings, but allows me to use the command manager to turn it off or on, so thats fine with me.
Do you connect your ODB reader via bluetooth?
No I connect it through data cable?
OBD WM6
If your PDA supports serial port hardware, you should open the same COM port as before? You can also use Bluetooth to read OBD data from your car : http://www.obdkey.com
Ok so everything is up and ready.
I have an ELM323 connecting to my Sx66. I am able to communicate beautifully with my Cars ECU now. Already have seen a few thing that need adjusting like my timing.
Well anyways. As soon as my wife gets home, I am going to take pictures. I will send you guys the looks. The good thing is I found the original data cable on ebay from Cingular/Siemens. It is USB and Serial, but it has an adapter to also charge it. I was worried, because my cradle did not have serial, but I know you could get an serial/usb adapter (but someone told me it would not work this way).
Anyways, upcoming plans are to do a little tweak, the same one from Youtube, called the Aximizer.
Also, one more thing are GSM attennas worth their money?
o_0
Ok....
So I am not liking something with OBDGauge, like the fact that it is a pain in the rear to get to work on my car. When I replied, it worked, now it is not. I have to diddle daddle with it until finally it works, takes 5 minutes (not very practical). I have been reading the forums and alot of people have problems with OBDgauge. I am going to install something else: If anyone you know of any programs let me know, must support WM6.
OK a heads up.
For those of you that want to do a little project you will need 3 things to get your blueangel to work with the OBDII reader in your car:
1. a serial null modem: you can find one at radio shack
2. serial cable data cable, a converter serial to usb will not work.
3. and an OBDII with elm 323 or 327, also autoenginuity has a great one package with a badass program that only works with their reader.
I am in the process of making a program with my brother-in-law for this to work with the ELM devices as we have notice that most programs are limited and do not feature things like oil pressure and miles per gallon.
I wish I knew how to create a dyno program, but I will leave it upto others to come.
I only know of two programs that work well with WM6 under the ELM that are free and they are: OBDGAUGE and ScanTest or MicroOBD.
anyways I do not know much about making a program for WM6, but my brother-in-law does. I am going to try my best with him to develop something, when I do, I will put out here for you guys to use.
I would like some new tips if possible so that we do not have to struggle too much.

How does your buddy connect his tilt to the OBDII reader, is there some bluetooth serial adapter involved? I have a Kaiser (and can't believe that the Tilt has a serial port or USB host) and am currently looking for exactly the same thing to do.
Any updates of apps för OBD reading?
Or just the same old same old apps?
OBDGauge and MicroOBD

I would like to know also. I have a bluetooth ELM327 device that connects fine to my Palm Lifedrive, but when I try with the Tilt running WM6 I get the "failed to open serial port" window. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks
[edit] I did some more searching and found this post series at ATT's wireless site: http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/HTC/HTC-Tilt-bluetooth-sync/td-p/1408041
QUOTE: Did you create an outgoing COM port on your phone? You then have to go into ActiveSync's options on the desktop (File-Connection Settings) and check the checkbox that says "Allow connections on " and select that port # in the pulldown menu. At least, that's how I do it in XP.

I think I'm having the same problem... basically, I follow the instructions and still cannot sync. Here is what I see AFTER I pair the devices:
1. On PC (XP w/ all the updates), Bluetooth--> QuickConnect --> Serial Port does not have Tilt device in the pull down menu and when I "Find Device" it cannot find the device (remember, tilt and PC already paired)
2. On PC w/ ActiveSync4.2, I tried to CONNECT using "Connection Setting" and cannot find the Tilt.
3. On PC MyBluetoothPlace, I only see the following "services",
a. Dial-Up
b. Network Access Point
c. Voice Gateway
4. On Tilt, I only see the following services;
a. Wireless Stereo
b. Serial Port
c. Dial Networking
d. Headset
Help!
END QUOTE. Admittedly, this is originally dealing with ActiveSync, but I did discover the "New Outgoing Port" setting inside the Settings/Bluetooth folder. Click on COM ports. Select the device you wish to add (mine is called CBT). Hit next and select a COM port (I am using 5). I am going to test in the truck. Eureka! It works! Make sure the com port you select in OBDGauge preferences is the same you assigned to the BT ELM interface, and it should connect and start scanning. Hope this helps.
