I've never used the option to make my phone a media device so I can't help you there. (I personally just transfer the music/video files directly to my storage card.) However, I can help you with your 24hr time issue ^_^ Goto Start -> Settings -> System tab -> Regional Settings -> Time tab. Once there goto the Time style dropbox and select a style that starts with one or two lowercase "h's". After you do that and hit the 'ok' button in the upper-right-hand corner, you will be back to a 12 hour clock setting. I hope this helps ^_^

my network places

I have recently purchased an o2 xda mini s, and have been browsing through this site for about a week. been very impressed. i have a question for you - is there anyway of accessing my computer through the wireless lan? EG accessing the computer hard drive, and playing a film on the xda. thanks ben
Yes there is but I'm not sure how to do it on a "Vanilla" WM5 machine. I use Resco Explorer which is a commercial application but allows you to move the "Network" folder below "My Device" and connect to shared drives. These shared drives over the network (GPRS / WiFi / USB Active Sync etc) will then show up in ANY program which has a file browser.
I'm sure there is a way of doing it on a plain machine but Resco Explorer is so much easier and nicer for any kind of file manipulation....
nice one, im looking into it now
ok iv got resco, and im connected. i can see the network places, and i can acess my shared folder, but when i try to open a music file, media player opens and says the parameter is incorrect? anyone know what this means?!
You're right you know!
This is the only app on my device that has this problem (Well no surprises there seeing as it's MS s/w!)
I am using both Pocket Music and TCPMP (Free!) for video / music (TCPMP does both) and neither have that problem over the network.
Also try MortPlayer as that is another excellent skinnable player for FREE....
TCMP will access shared folders/files. Or should that be \\computer\shared_folder\media.files It works pretty well over wifi for me. If you are happy to create your playlist on your pc and stream to the PocketPC then Microsoft media encoder will do the job. I'm just looking into Orb www.orb.com which should allow me to view/listen to my media anywhere I have access to the internet on my Wizard.
Hope this helps,
Al
thats great, got tcpmp running really smooth, even without cutting the resolutions down. im very impressed. is there a way to make tcpmp the default application? iv always had symbian phones uptil now-which are considerably more stable, but not quite as manipulative iv noticed.
one other thing, is i had a prog for my symbian device that put my desktop up on the screen and gave me total control of the pc with it, do u kno of another app that will do this on ppc? thanks so much!

Change the file associations in tcpmp under options/settings/
thats great thanks!
Did some searching and found this older thread.
Basically, I was wondering if any body knows of a free prog, or reg hack, to make the network folder visible and then allow mapping the network drive?
I found an older prog caller NetRunner, from a Spanish site. It works on my older wm2003 devices (though it always asks for my pass work even if I tell it to save it) And it will work on my MDA, but I can only access the network drive through net runner. It won't show up in file explorer.
So any ideas? Thanks
Ok, Never mind.... I feel sheepish!
I have GSfinder installed and it allows you to show the network folder and to map the drive................
One question about it though- even time I soft power down the phone and turn it back on and try to browse my network drive it keeps asking for my password. Even if I tell it to save it..any way to fix this?
Thanks

This usually means that the music file type is not supported by windows media player. ie: asx,m3u,etc. In file explorer, does the music file you're trying to play have the wmp icon, or some other player icon beside it?

JAMin and WMP10 settings

Hi,
Quick question which isn't the end of the world but I find confusing.
For the past 4 months (since getting my JAMin) whenever I started up WMP10 it went to the 'Library' screen, and I selected 'My Playlists' - it would then automatically list all the playlists I have on my SD card. (I only ever load music onto the SD card, not onto the device itself).
Somehow, just in the last few days, this has changed so it defaults to the 'My Device' lists - of which there are none (never have been).
I simply find this annoying as it now means I have to go through 2 more steps every time I open WMP10 to reset it to look at the SD card for the playlists instead. The device then doesn't remember this as the default the next time I open WMP10.
Does anyone know how I can get it back to functioning as it was previously? I checked the sync settings on the PC version of WMP10 that I use to load the music/playlists, and it's set up for the SD card.......
Wild guess.... Maybe your card is getting old and gets disconnected once in while? (If you extract the card WMP defaults to internal memory...)
Not sure if that would be the reason.
The minute I click 'playlists' and the nclick on 'Storage Card' instead of 'My Device' it picks up the card, so it's registering at the time. I'd have thought even if it had accidentally disconnected at some point, the fact that it is 'visible' when I want to select a playlist would have suggested that WMP10 should also be picking it up.
Unless I'm missing something......
(Also, the card isn't that old, and isn't removed and reinserted very often - actually it's hardly touched - so it shouldn't be wearing out the contacts or anything).
Did you install any task manager program recently? Like SPB Pocket Plus Close Button or anyting like that?
By default WMP10's library points to My Device and not the Storage Card. When you tap the X button in standard WM5 you're only minimising WMP10 so when you open it up again it remembers your setting.
On the other hand, if you close WMP10 competely (by one of these task managers or the standard End Program), on loading it, it will point back to My Device as it is programmed to do by default.
1. Delete all media files you can find in the 'my device' library from the library and from the device. You can do this from within WMP.
2. Go to /Application Data/Microsoft/ and delete the Media Player directory.
3. Update the library
4. Never sync while Windows Media Player is open (on your desktop). If you do, repeat step 2-3.

Dirty fix This would not apply for everyone since some people (includign myself) transfer music to the Prophet through WMP desktop so I can get all the album art automatically.

Nope, I've been running SPB Pocket Plus since I got the device, and it's always opened WMP10 pointing at the storage card (despite the device being the default as you say).
Basically, the only things I've loaded on the JAMin are SPB Pocket Plus, Superdoku, TomTom 6 and OziExplorer CE.

Umm.. you sync to the storage card through the device? Get an SD card reader and sync your music through that - it's much, much faster.
Way2Go - I have SPB pocket plus too - and it's never done that for me.

WMP vs. TCPMP (or whatever) vs. ITunes and syncing your music

Ok, I have learned that 1 gig is very unlike my 30 gig mp3 player but realistically I am growing towards the idea that the whole sync thing can be used to bring on and take off music when I get tired of it. Meaning, before when I could shove everythnig and its mother onto one device I really didn't care what was on there. but now, space is limited... I guess it is kinda like going from country side estate to a New York Sublet.
Alas we have to make due. So what do you guys use and what do you have the most functionality with.
For me this is how it has been. I have WMP 11 on my computer and Itunes as far as players go I have the WMP PPC and TCMPHP (i know I know) thingy on my pc... I played one video with the tcmpp thingy and it was shaking and fuzzy all over the place. I think it said it disabled my graphics card or something... WEIRD... but I removed it imediatley... anyone else have that problem? I digress...
the functionality of the WMP, forget about codecs for a second, I am only worried about mp3's right now, seems a bit archaic. you can't make a playlist but you can sync one. Which is fine. But, on my intitial setup with WMP on my computer I didn't include the music that the device had and the whole thing won't sync that... I was trying to delete the profile on the PC and NO LUCK... can't figure it out. anyways. As well, I noticed that some music you download doesn't have the proper tags or information. Fixing this in WMP is a true PAIN in the ARSE.
Fixing it in ITUNES is so much better and the tags you create actually stick with the mp3 file... For those of you who have been having trouble finding songs that you have in your device but they won't show up in the all music directory of WMP... THIS is why. Again, Itunes wins out for this one.
for me, I want to go all out for ITunes but I dont' think it will make a playlist that the WMP will recognize... will tcmp play the itunes media player and can you sync to the player or proper folder
OOOOO... that reminds me when I do sync I want it to go to specific folder I have on my device in my storage card. It goes to the freaking storage card but puts it right on the root and keeps creating a "my music" folder to put the music in... THis burns me up because it is not what I want. Again, anyone know how to fix this.
I dunno, I have been playing with this for weeks and would sure like to hear what you all are doing and what works the best.
Thanks in advance.
I use iTunes to TAG my mp3s and convert them into one standard bitrate [I use 128kbps on all my mp3s]
--
For syncing I use WMP11 on my XP notebook. All these are done on WMP11...
--
To remove a partnership: Right-click on the Storage Card and Remove Sync Partnership
--
To setup a Auto-sync: Re-connect your device/storage card. Right click and choose Set up Sync, check Sync this device automatically to sync music each time you connect your device/card. Choose the playlists you want sync'd and your off. It's a bit slow using USB but really fast when using a card reader. You may be prompted the first time you connect your card to rename it and some other options.
--
If you didn't rename your card to begin with you still can: Right click on it and choose Advanced there are some more options there to for quality/conversion settings [I don't mess with those since I've already converted and tagged my files before putting them inside my Music library]
--
Re: Music folder being organized by Artist-Album IIRC it could be removed pre-WMP11 but on WMP11 the tickbox for this is check and grayed out.
---
WMP11 may be a pain in the ass to use and it really is inferior to iTunes in a lot of ways but I've learned to bear with it.
--
What I like about WMP10PPC is that it has built in support for A2DP/AVRCP [never used TCPMP for music/videos]. I try not to install additional apps that I think the PPC is capable of doing out of the box. Maybe you can try this software [used google to find it] it's supposed to sync iTunes playlists to a WM device, it's called TunesSync for Windows Mobile. Haven't tried it though.
couple questions... when you snyc what folder on your sd card does it go to.. mine automatically trie to go on the root of my storage card but I don't want it to do that.
As well, I can't remove the parternship so that it starts over again... I dunno why but I can't do it... meaning if you remove the partnership will it prompt you to start over again and reconfigure the settings to your liking???
As well, yes, the tagging in WM11 is rediculous... but ITunes is way superior in that category... hmmmm shame but I dunno... I might give that Itunes sync to card a try.
My mp3s sync to...
\Storage Card\Music\Artist\Album [for single artist albums]
\Storage Card\Music\Various Artists\Album [for compilations]
--
Hmm odd I can easily end and re-establish sync relationships using WMP11. Maybe you can try disconnecting the device, restart both PPC and WMP11 and try again?
--
be sure to post on how it goes with the synctunes thingy.
I dunno... wierd... I need to go home and try to work this out.
I rely totally on the CorePlayer Mobile (aka TCPMPWhatever) to play MP3's and videos straight from my storage card. Why? 1) The sound quality is better. CorePlayer includes an equalizer, so you can mess with the settings. You can also increase the pre-amp if you have really quiet audio recordings you want to listen to. 2) You don't have to bother with the file converting like you do with WMP. I use a utility like CardExport or WM5torage to put it directly on the card, completely bypassing the converting mess. It saves a lot of time, especially with videos.
I haven't totally abandoned WMP, though. I use Orb.com to stream music/videos to the WMP on my PPC, and effectively have a 1TB MP3 player.

Oh, and if you're having problems with the video shaking and what not, try changing the video output driver. Menu -> Tools -> Preferences -> Select Page -> Video. I had this problem with a few videos, and I resolved it by changing the ATI Imageon to either DirectDraw or Raw FrameBuffer. I don't know why some videos have problems with one driver or the other, but switching it sometimes helps.
BTW, if you want to re-enable the ATI OS Bitmap caching (which CorePlayer automatically disables), you can switch it back at Menu -> Tools -> Preferences -> Select Page -> ATI Imageon. I assume you need to soft reset after you make the change.
Edit: I just realized you might be using the actual TCPMP, which is the free version of CorePlayer. If that's the case, the settings might be in a different place in the program, but it's probably still there.

yes, for sure the free... but from what I gather by the response for music the WMP is better.
Oh, well I'm not sure about that. The music on the CorePlayer is definitely better than the WMP, though.
but can you synch with it? that is the question / problem.
Yes, but you don't need to.
You can sync it the usual way, and have all your MP3's in a folder like "Music". You can then have CorePlayer point towards that file.
OR.... you can just copy a whole bunch of MP3's into said folder, and not have to sync it at all. You can do this with 1) a usb card reader, 2) WM5torage, or 3) CardExport.
I prefer not to do the syncing. The latter method is infinitely quicker and straight forward. It's simply a matter of copying the MP3's into a folder on the storage card.
i dont bother syncing,
i just copy the mp3 folders to the sd card and launch the playlisy in mortplayer for mp3's.
simplest and best solution i have found.
WMP takes up too much ram when playing mp3's, typical microsoft, redundant code just taking up memory.

stream with my pc music?

is it possible to access the music playlists on my pc with the hd2 over wifi?
I don't think play lists will work, but using as different file manager such as resco you can map network drives and play music from them.I do this with both a music and a video folder using resco.
i cant see my pc as a device on my wifi list. want to know how to cennect my hd2 to the pc using wifi. i am using my home wifi network with no problems.
No you wont see it as a device
On your PC, share a folder with some music in it, , lets say your pc is called 'comp' and the folder is called 'muzic'. Share that folder, then on your phone, (using resco, i dont use anything else but the principle is the same)
on your phone, in resco you go to 'my network', click 'map network drive' and you should see your pc as an item on your network. click that, it should show the shared folder muzik and you should be able to click that to set it as a mapped folder. If you have username/password on your pc, it will ask for that info.
On mine, it doesn't always show properly the network shares, so i have to put the shared folder in manually, using \\comp\muzik
wow that is amazing, thx for that. I can access all folders from my pc and view/listen to them directly on the hd2 using wifi including pictures, documents and music.
I continue to be impressed with this phone.
An iPhone user recently showed me that he could control his music collection from his phone and get it to play through his sound system from the pc. I dont suppose there is anything similar in winmo?
heh yea. love it.
I'm sure you can probably do the control stuff, maybe win media player can do it, or maybe media center has an extender.I never do stuff like that so I cant help there.
you can always go down the remote desktop method of control.

im leary about buying this pocket player, because i downloaded for my htc hd2 and it wont play any music files or vid files, i went to to associations in settings and there not checked, and it will not allow me to check them.
is the pocketplayer compatible with the HD2?
change settings / associations
bought it 1 month ago, very happy with it, only listen to audio books not tried video (tcpmp meets my needs) in order to select an item settings/associations tap on the item you want to select, it will hilight then bring up keyboard and press enter, hope this helps. ps works perfectly on my hd2
thanks alot for your reply!! ive been wanting to try to find agood player.
i finally got the settings down now thanks to you!!
next question.. ive went to menu, options library and added my storage card\ music. then tried to play ANY files on my storage card but it wont play or add any of them? and they are all mp3??? they all added fine on windows media player on htc, and they all add fine tcpmp, and coreplayer, but they won't add in pocket player? but it has added all the os ringtones? and custom ringtones ive added to the ringtones folder on the device(not storage card) also it did find my videos. all avi's and it won't play any of them?
any other tips would be appreciated. i dont wanna buy a product that i cannot even get the trial to work!
Thanks for your time and patience!
To make "checking" work, you MUST enable virtual keyboard. Use up/down and enter keys.
BT keyboard also does the trick.
This is a common issue of WM 6.5. I have same problem with pocket player too.
still doesnt work .. this is sad for me caus eim a comp tech and consider myself VERY tech savy. so sorry guys
ive watched while its scanning folders, and it never goes to storage card? just scans... is c program files flip disc? wont goto storage card, and in pocket player settings library folder it shows i have \storage card\music and \storage card\video to monitor for files. and i DO NOT have c program files\flip disc selected.
adding files from memory card
as i said i only use it for audio books and dont use the library but i can tell you how i use it which might meet your needs (i assume "the library" allows you to select contents of a playlist via mp3 tags), i add a book via the "open folder" option this will recurse all sub
directories from the chosen folder and add them to current playlist. i then save the current
playlist via the browse->playlist option, as i said unless your music is well organized this might not suit.
i have just tried creating playlists via album and arist this worked fine all my files are on sd card. just checking are we talking about same player "conduits pocketplayer v4.1", have you tried emailing them, i found their tech support to be v efficient & helpful.
good luck, and happy to help
EDIT - my two pennies worth
works well with cheap ipod handsfree from ebay as play pause work
when device locked (important feature for me), it is currently my
audiobook player of choice beating out rockbox on old ipod, one less
gadget and playback speed adjust with constant pitch.

I've been using it (I assume you mean Conduit's version) for years now and am now using it on the HD2 with just the minor problem mentioned already (needing to use a soft keyboard to change settings).
Messing with Zoomify on it now, because I had some problems getting precise clicking on the bar where I wanted to jump ahead in a podcast.
If you're still having problems, send them an email - in the past I've found that they were very responsive to problems (same day replies).
