Hi,
Installed the knew imate rom on my K-Jam. All good except for the fact that I no longer have write access to the Extended_Rom so I can't delete uncessary crap.
Been searching the forums but don't really seem to be able to find a solution, is there one?
if you tried 'search'you would have known allready that until now the 1.6+ ExtROM's cannot be modified.
You could help buzz_lightyear in finding a solution by sending him / posting a dump of the bootloader (IPL) and an export of the HKLM part of your registry. Plz supply the version # of the rom and bootloader
actually you can!!
well I should explain... I have 2.16.9.1 WWE and before my last hard reset I installed the the unlock utility for the extended rom. Unfortunately I moved the cab file to the unit and installed it so I lost it. IDK if there is a different version available but the one I did install has the same name as this one which is not working for me right now after the hard reset.
Make a long story short I was able to delete and add files to the Ext Rom with 2.16.9.1 but now I can't seem to get it working as I probably can't find the correct version of this file:
Unlock Ext Rom Wizard.cab
ethorn: Are you sure the files were actually being deleted. I tried running that util and deleting, I found it deleted it from being listed but the file is still there.
Does anyone know how to copy a file out of the device's ROM? I know this is possible with the ext rom. Is there some utility or trick to unlock the ROM to allow read access of these protected files?
Not that I know of, Im not posotive but even the latest ext_rom unlocker corrupted my ext_rom on the new faria 3.0.0.0 12mg pagepool rom, when some app tried to write to it...
I thought that was the problem that was fixed by the new rom unlocker, i thought i deleted the older one but may have switched them by mistake, im not 100% posotive, So I doubt this would be advisable, as you could easily corrupt it also(unless you like hard resets)
try reading up on rom cooking, it should show you how to break the rom down to its cabs, you'd just need a copy of the rom thats on your handheld.
<gotta change that sig>
bump
anyone have an answer?
Anybody can tell me how to unlock extend rom?thanks.
Sorry, i make a mistake!
Have the hermes ext rom ulocker been tested on an artemis? Earlier attempts with wizard ext rom unlocker on artemis managed to unlock the extended rom for a short while (at least made contents visible though not really removable)...but after soft resets strange things would happen with the extended rom...it would sometimes be visible and at other times not.
Has the hermes ext rom unlocker been tested for stability on the artemis? Does it allow use of the extended rom or just visibility?
Looking forward to your answer.

well mr "moderator" wlinsong,
how about checking on the info you spread!?
WRONG WRONG, WRONG, not functioning!
The versions you are claiming to unlock the extrom have more than once screwed up the extroms of the people using them. afaik, the cited versions allow you to see the extrom, fiddle with it, and once you reboot the machine your extrom is screwed up, or rather not loading on reset any more.
there are numerous cases of users cited on this forum who experienced so!

They are all not make unlocked Rom, i am all tested.
Sorry
The ExtROM unlocker by Buzz for the Universal (see Universal topics) works on both my Universal and Artemis.
After unlocking you need to unhide the ExtROM, by doing the following in the register:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
Bootphase=dword:2
[HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
MountHidden=dword:0
JayRay's solution not working for me
JayRay,
I tried your suggestion but the external rom remains unlocked. As usual, to start with it looks like you can write files to external rom but after a soft reset they are all gone.
Let me know if you manage to have a stable unlocked rom.
Same here (T-mob NL). The utility from Buzz doesn't give a popup message either, does it run on the artemis properly anyway?

Weird...
The ExtROM became visible by applying the reg tweaks I mentioned before, and I used the Uni ExtROM unlocker to try to unlock it.
The popup message that appeared on my Uni didn't come on the Artemis, but after clicking on the file I just went through a soft reset.
That was all. The ExtROM was really unlocked and still visible.... and seems to stay that way.
A good way to test if it's really unlocked is to try and install a program (cab) into the extrom. If you can install it and the program works then you are clearly unlocked. Have you done this?
Thanx

And soft-reset after you copied the cab!.. For me, with each "hack", i can see and acces the Extrom, but after a soft reset everything is reverted..

Yes, unlocked is unlocked.
I have WorldMate Pro, PocketXpdf, psShutXP and TCPMP installed in the ExtRom, as well as a few MP3 ringtones.
@all,
how about just doing it the way I stated here? :

Hi JayRayMee
Some Noob questions
After you unlock and unhide the EXTRom, how did you add the programs that you like. Is it just copying the cab files onto the EXTRom? How do you remove programs that you dont like? And is there a way to hide it again after you add up your programs?
Cheers

The ExtROM, once unlocked, just behaves like any other SD card storage.
By reversing the reg tweaks as mentioned before, you can hide the ExtROM again.
I'm using mine for PIE Cache...that way it is still on the device and trims a milisecond off my surfing plus I can let it get pretty big without worrying.
What do you use yours for?
I've been filling up my newly unlocked extended rom with all of my applications.
I am running WM Black 2.0, and there were several files in the extended rom which were run on the first bootup. Is it safe to delete these files now as long as I dont plan on doing any hard resets?
Thanks,
-Kai

Black 2.0 doesn't do anything to your EXT ROM so if you do a hard reset the OS ROM won't trigger the EXT Rom autorun.exe
You'll need to run auto.exe or the separate cab files in your ext rom yourself.
I just deleted my files from my ext rom. I keep a back up on my laptop but I wasn't using files...I only needed the shoestring cab and I used a cab to setup my carrier settings. The other stuff was crap so I dumped it.
Anyone know how to unlock the extended rom of Polaris? I tried with a few utilities but does not work.
I think (as i see on my o2 o2) TC doesnt hace ExRom anymore i can see all branding rubbish in \Windows\
yes, there isn't a ext rom in polaris device. all cabs and ext programs are in OEM folder in dumped roms...
How can I cook a cab and make it auto install when I do hard reset?
thank!
