Hi. I found out that when you install a new application with a Today item if you already have 13 of them the last one install sort of bumps one out. The first one to go in my case is the Tasks. Mind you I do not have all 13 active. Most are unchecked in my Settings / Today control panel. Seems like there is a limitation to how many of them can be installed at any given time.
This brings up the question. How can I remove things like MMS Composer today item or those others installed by various applications without uninstalling the application itself. Is there a registry location where the info is kept? Presumably I can just remove the reference and bring my count under 13. Am I off base here?
Thanks
no, you're spot on!
Use a registry editor, such as resco and remove the entry under hkey_local_machine\software\Microsoft\today\items

I m actually looking to add MMS back on today Screen
not sure how anyone can help
in the register is only show
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\MMS Composer]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000
even Enable it (turn it to 1)
it is not showing
Presumably you have tried going to Start/Settings/Today/Items to see if MMS is available to tick? (sorry if thats too obvious!)
Otherwise you may have fallen foul of the 13 Item limit, and may need to delete another of the Today Items in the registry to allow MMS to show.
One tip, is to export the Registry entry to "Storage" before deleting it- this will ensure you can get it back if you find you need it in the future- double tapping an exported registry entry will reimport it.
Hi, I'm going to be setting some of these phone up for business, and have decided that we don't want the users to have access to the bluetooth functionality. I would like a way of removing/Hiding bluetooth (or at least the icons for it) so the users cannot easily re-enable it.
Anyone know how this could be done?
Thanks
Hi,
Hope your customers wont visit this forum
Ok, open your registry editor and delete the following branches:
1. A 'BT hardware not found' message will be shown at each attempt to enable Bluetooth
DELETE:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth]
2. BT icon removal
DELETE:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\BTIcon]
3. BT shortcuts (optional)
Add int-type (number) value "Hide" with "1" as its data value to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Bluetooth]
and create "HKLM\ControlPanel\MyCpl\Bluetooth Settings" key & add int-type value "Enable" with "0" as its data
Thanks for that SP, i've got some of it working: I've tried all three things you listed
I have removed the 'tray icon' from the front screen at the bottom, and also removed the icon from settings->connections.
However I still seem to have the 'Blue tooth headset mode' icon on the front screen and the Bluetooth Settings Icon in settings->system. Any ideas on how to remove these?
Thanks for any help
all items in settings are cpl files in the windows dir
see if you can delete the cpl file which is named something like bluetooth
about the today item then there is also a place in the reg's where they are handled as in which ones are display'd on the list you can check or uncheck
but why remove bluetooth ?
it's not like they cant just install it themselfs
unless you mess with the extented rom they will get their bluetooth back after next hardreset
education may be cheaper than trying to turn the bluetooth off.
Faking users...

Try this utility. It does aforementioned PLUS disables headset mode on Today screen
To prevent BT enabling over hard-resets replace your original TPEnable.exe with this one. Don't forget to unlock your extended ROM first
ps: 'BT Settings' shortcut is a HTC-specific one and can't be removed easily
What danger do they pose by having Bluetooth? :roll:
BlueJacking?
if they are mobile,some may need it for headsets???
Thanks SP! that works really, well, and with BT disabled, I can live with the one icon left in system. I'm not going to alter the extended rom, as the only people who should be doing the hard resets are the tech support team.
Do you have the registry entries for removing the bluetooth headset item from the today screen?

You're welcome!
Here it is:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\Profile]
And leave this one:
[HKLM\ControlPanel\MyCpl\Bluetooth Settings:Enable] = 0
Maybe HTC will revise their code & fix the bug in the future, so the following will work then and will disable 'BT Settings'
I search the link who launch the icon of BT on the botton right. I lost the icon and I don't want make an hard reset whith reinstall for retreive it.

There is a workaround for this problem.
It's not pretty, it requires hacking the registry, but it works.
I found it at http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthr...7403#post397403, but had to make a slight adjustment.
I assume that you know
- How to install form a CAB file
- How to create and edit a shortcut on your Pocket PC
- How to edit the registry on your Pocket PC
Ready? Here we go:
1) Download NoPluginsToday (you'll most likely want the ARM version) from http://www.ictinus.com/NoPluginsToday/
2) Install the CAB somewhere. Make sure you know the exact location of NoPluginsToday.exe (e.g. \Storage\NoPluginsToday\NoPluginsToday.exe)
3) Create a shortcut to NoPluginsToday.exe in \Windows\Startup. Name this shortcut ZzzNoPluginsToday, so that it is last in the list of shortcuts to be launched.
4) Start a registry editor, and go to HKLM\init. Look for keys named LaunchXX. You'll want to create a new String key named LaunchYY, where YY is a bigger number than any of the XX you found. I created Launch99. The value for LaunchYY is the exact location of NoPluginsToday.exe (e.g. \Storage\NoPluginsToday\NoPluginsToday.exe) you looked up earlier.
Now you're set! Do a soft reset, and see your Bluetooth icon again! You'll notice your startup time may be a little longer.
How does it work?
The BT icon disappears because of a timeout issue when loading plugins.
We solve this by using NoPluginsToday, which switches all Today plugins off, remembers the settings, and reactivates them the next time it is executed.
By calling NoPluginsToday twice, once via the registry (early) and then again via \Windows\Startup (late), we "postpone" the loading of Today plugins until after the BT icon has been activated. That's your longer startup time for you.
Hope this helps!

Hi folks,
You guys might already know about this but I just discovered how to do it after doing some heavy googling over the past couple of days. Many thanks to the guy at this link who made the discovery!
How to lock down the clock on Windows Mobile devices
I was reading through some of the messages on the microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.compactframework newsgroup when I came upon a real gem of a message.
The key piece of knowledge being, that there is a special registry key, that will disable GUI access for the clock on Windows Mobile devices.
Application State Registry Key for Windows Mobile Clock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Clock\
If this is set to 0x11 the clock is enabled, as by default. If it is set to 0x30, or probably anything not 0x11, it is disabled and ignores any attempts to run.
If you are writting any kind of salesforce automation applications, or route management software, then you can see just how useful this feature is. You just add a special admin feature to enable and disable the ability to set the time, or handle it entirely from within your application.
Now I just need to find out why this key even exists, since I hate to find out the OS likes to change it under circumstance X.
// disable clock
System.Byte[] offValue = new byte[1];
offValue [0] = 0x30;
OpenNETCF.Win32.RegistryKey registryKey =
OpenNETCF.Win32.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey(@"\Software\Microsoft\Clock\", true);
registryKey.SetValue("AppState", offValue);
registryKey.Close();
// enable clock
System.Byte[] onValue = new byte[1];
onValue[0] = 0x11;
OpenNETCF.Win32.RegistryKey registryKey =
OpenNETCF.Win32.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey(@"Software\Microsoft\Clock\", true);
registryKey.SetValue("AppState", value);
registryKey.Close();

Hi dav!
I am sorry to burst your bubble, but I tried this registry hack, and found there is an easy way around it, with out editing the registry.
If you hold the OK hardware button (in the center of the joystick, on those devices that have it) then tap and hold the clock (in the task bar) you get a little menu with 2 options: Run and Clock.
If you choose clock from this menu, the app will start and the registry setting will automatically be altered so you will be able to open clock settings normally from now on.
Further investigation showed that the lower 4 bit of the AppState walue (ones digit) simply selects on what tab the clock app will open. Legal values are 1-3. Any illegal value (like 0) will jam the app preventing it from opening by tapping the icon in settings. I suspect that if a command line switch is specified it overwrites the registry value and the app opens any way. (that’s how the menu works)
Just thought you should know.
Hi levenum,
Thanks for the insights! I just tried it too and sadly that is the case ;-( Mmmh, I wonder if there is a way to hide 'Clock' from the Run\Clock thingy? or disable the Clock in some other way?
mmh, back to the drawing board...
Dav
Here's what you might try:
Create a cab that deploys an empty clock.exe to windows directory on the device.
Clock.exe is a ROM file, but a cab should be able to overwrite it (it won't work manually). This way no matter who calls it (menu or control panel) they will see the empty exe and nothing will happen.
Sounds like a good idea to me! I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks for your continued help
Dav
Worked nice Thankyou!
btw, do you think that overwriting the Clock.exe would have any effect on the 'displaying' of the date in the Today Screen? By clicking the date we launch the Clock.exe program, but something else other than Clock.exe must control what shows the current date, right? I mean, the current date wouldnt just stay on the date on which we delete Clock.exe?
Cheers and thanks again,
Dav
Actually, if the exe was responsible for the date on the today screen, you wouldn't see anything once you overwritten it. Today date is just another plug-in. I think its clockdll.dll but I am not sure. Whatever the file name, it takes the date directly from the system clock.
As I understand it clock.exe is just a little GUI utility for setting system time, and alarms.
That sounds right and what i was thinking, always good to have a second opinion for confimration.
All the best,
Dav
seems like you guys might know what your doing, so do you know how to get the battery removed and the clock back on the today screen of WM5 latest rom releases....

wow..thanx for this. worked like a charm on my wing (and 2 yrs after it was posted i might add =P). i thought my alarm clock was lost FOREVER!
Hi,
I found the following code in this discussion thread:
// disable clock
System.Byte[] offValue = new byte[1];
offValue[0] = 0x30;
OpenNETCF.Win32.RegistryKey registryKey =
OpenNETCF.Win32.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey(@"\Software\Microsoft\Clock\", true);
registryKey.SetValue("AppState", offValue);
registryKey.Close();
It looks pretty useful to me but It has some OpenNETCF keyword.
Please suggest me what is OpenNETCF? Is it an additional third
party compact framework and how can I get this?
Also, if it is inbuild reference by Microsoft, from where to get it?
-Abhishek Maitrey
OpenNETCF is an extra SDK for WiMo devices. Search for it....
In this situation it's not needed.
OK I was working in the customization of the HTCHomeplug.
What is HTCHomeplug? If you own a HTC X7500 Advantage (the HTC make of Athena or Ameo) then in the Today screen you got a plugin that shows some icons like Battery, Rotation, Comm Manager, Screen Light, Quick GPS and TVOut. What I discovered is who to deal with this plugin in order to change the icons and applications associated there.
I used PHM Registry to edit entries at the PPC registry, but you can use the editor of your like.
First is access using the registry editor to this entry:
/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/HTCHomeplug
There is the configuration of the plugin. There we will find two entries pointing to the first two icons (Battery and Rotation) that seems to be configured in a different way that the rest of the icons. Those are the two DWORD entries:
PowerIconSlot with value of 0 (this means the first position in the plugin)
RotateIconSlot with value of 1 (this means the second position)
The rest of the positions in the HTCHomeplug appears like KEY entries with names from 2 to 5 meaning positions 3 to 6 in the plugin bar.
Inside each key (2 to 5) we find 3 values (or entries):
1- iconindex DWORD type of Decimal which contains 103 in the case of entry KEY 2
2- LaunchApPath STRING contains the path to the executable file associated to the icon
3- ResPath STRING contais the path to the resource file which contais the icon image poited by iconindex entry. This path points to a DLL or EXE file containing the icon image.
So... since we want to add a icon/application we need to create the entry KEY 6 and we must create both STRING entries and DWORD one inside the KEY 6.
To add Tomtom Navigator in the HTCHomeplug (as an example) I added:
iconindex = 101
LaunchApPath = \Program files\Navigator\Tomtom Navigator.exe
ResPath = \Program files\Navigator\Tomtom Navigator.exe
So I'm using the icon storaged in the Tomtom Navigator executable file itself and my Tomtom is in the path I show in the entry. Off course this could not match your installation.
How I found the iconindex information that points to the icon in the Tomtom's EXE file??? Easy I used a program called RViewer (for PPC) develop by Vicott Wong. The program can by found in Google or in the web page shown in the About screen.... http://mobile-sg.com
Running that program and browsing the EXE file (or a DLL) we can see the index for each resource and if it's an image the image is display in the screen, so I found the 101 is the index for the Tomtom icon inside de EXE file.
Once the entries in the Registry are done the rest is easy. Just go into Start - Configuration - Personal - Today and int the Elements Tab. There unmark the HTCHomeplug and exit the configuration going into the Today screen to check that the plugin is not in the screen. Then we back to the Today configuration and select again the HTCHomeplug to mark it. Once we are back into the Today screen we will see the new icon.
(OK in the previous paragraph I'm translating the menu options and clicks from my spanish release of WM5 into english one so the names could not match... what you need to do is configure Today screen to remove the plugin and to configure again to insert the plugin, that way the plugin is reseted and the new icons loaded).
I did several tests and looks like the HTCHomeplug only supports 7 icons (0 to 6) but since many of the original icons are not use on daily bases we can setup up to 5 programs in that plugin leaving the Battery and Rotary icons in its place.
I hope this is useful... and I beg your pardon for my poor english.

mahjong

No Joy I'm afraid...
I'm afraid that it hasn't worked for me on the Ameo. Maybe it's due to how T-Mob have configured/altered things with their customisation of their ROM.
I reverted to using the TrayApplet in the same regedit folder that the HTCHompeplug resides in, but to no avail.
Quote "Just go into Start - Configuration - Personal - Today and int the Elements Tab. No HTC Plugin on the Ameo Today settings menu either, but visible in HLKM...software etc...as the HTCHomeplug.
I can get some of my choice of programs in the TrayApplet, but not the associated icons!!??!!
Same as before when I tried. Anyone else with an Ameo who has had success in getting it to work with the right icons?
Hi,
Thanks for the tip, it's really useful! I wanted to customize the plugin but didn't have the patience to go through all the registry.
Twp questions though:
- I made a shortcut for the calculator (calc.exe) but the icon is too big (both res. index 0 or 100 in calc.exe). Is there a way to scale it down, or a smaller calculator icon in another file? What's the "main" icon library for Windows Mobile (the equivalent of shell32.dll under Windows)
- I tried to make a shortcut to the phone application, but I can't find the exe file (the Start menu shortcut doesn't point to an exe file, but to :MSCProg?......). And I can't find the icon either...
Please help.

Silviu

Thanks for the reply. That would explain why to a large extent it works on your device.
P.S. try \Windows\HTCICON.dll (I think that is the equivalent to shell32.dll)
Let us know how you get on.
Thank you for your answer.
The hack from mahjong works OK, except for the quirks I have already posted above (the Calc.exe icon is too big and I can't find the main icon store). htcicon.dll doesn't exist
However it's OK for Tomtom.
I'll keep you posted on my findings (I'm not giving up, I just have to go to bed )
See you,

Well, you can simply enable it on the T-Mobile Ameo using the following Reg-Keys:
- Navigate to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items
- Create a new Key named: HTC-Homeplug (or whatever you like)
- Navigate into that key
- Create the following items under that key:
String: DLL
Value: htchomeplug.dll
DWORD: Enabled
Value: 0 (or 1 if you want to enable it directly)
DWORD: Flags
Value: 0
DWORD: Options
Value: 0
DWORD: Order
Value: 0
DWORD: Type
Value: 5
After doing the above go to your today-screen settings and the Homeplug plugin is there...
Cheers
I seem to have BOTH HTCHomeplug and Trayapplet on my Ameo
It seems that there is a today item [email protected] or something I can turn on/off that doesnt appear to do anything, I beleive this is turning on/off the HTCHomeplug.
Because Trayapp is already on, and overwriting the HTChomeplug you only see its icons, therefor the homeplug is hidden.
I will experiment with turning off trayapp then turning on the @home today item and see what happens, but it looks like a lot of the confusion for Ameo users is the fact both are installed.
I did a hard reset, and didnt fiddle with the home/tray stuff, so this is how the rom set it up!
HKLM/software/htc/HTCHomeplug
HKLM/software/htc/TrayApplet
Both have keys of (and ONLY of),
PowerIconSlot=0
RotateIconSlot=1
In them.
Under HKLM/software/microsoft/today/items/[email protected]
DLL=hztdplug.dll
enabled=0
flags=0

The T-Mobile plugin has nothing to do with the HTC-Homeplug. HTC-Homeplug provides the sam functionality as the TrayApp.
The [email protected] Today Plugin is only useful for T-Mobile customers as it provides functions for HomeZone users.
The dll name hztdplug.dll means HomeZoneTodayPlugin...
If you want to use the HTC-HomePLug plugin you have to create the registry key I've posted above.

Ok, I dont want the homezone rubbish.
But im still stuck with both HTCHomeplug and Trayapp
How do I enable/disable the trayapp? That doesnt seem to have any today element to it. I cant get icons working at all in trayapp and wanted to try the HTCHomeplug as that looks a much more userfriendly app.

If you use combination of Spb pocket plus and Commmgrpro, you don't need to deal with these problems of wrong size icons in the comm manager and home plug. Both of these need not be used at all.
I'm yet to find a replacement for Spb GPRS monitor though. SPb GPRS monitor also have problem displaying in true VGA. There are some but they do not show the kbps figure - only the downloaded volume.
