File sharing over ad-hoc wifi - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I just bought a usb wi-fi dongle so that i can connect to my wizard in office over wi-fi. Can anyone give any pointers how can i do file sharing in ad-hoc mode in such a way that i can access files on my office PC through my wizard without having a separate access point.
I tried connecting through ad-hoc mode and my wizard connects to the PC but doesn't show any shared folders and cannot find my PC (not even through IP) when using resco file explorer...

To browse network folder on your HTC you should install some additional software. I've tried PocketLAN to share files between notebook and HTC via Wi-Fi. It've been working flawlessly. But you have to set IP and network mask on your HTC as it's in the office network.

Hmmm, i just installed pocketlan...I saw that my PPC gets an IP of 169.254.11.69 (subnet mask 255.255.0.0) and mycomp gets an ip of 169.254.87.204. Now am able to ping my comp using pocketlan on my PPC but am not able to map it. Whenever i try to do it, it says network address/name cannot be found.

that's strange What OS do you use?

You don't need any 3rd party software...
The Wizard will do this with it's built in file explorer.

Windows XP is the OS...

Did it finally after umpteen number of tries...Turns out ICS is necessary even for simple file sharing even though i do not want to surf net thru my PC's connection. And I also had to unplug my lan cable as the IP windows tries to assign once ICS is on is 192.168.0.x and this range is already used by my lan thus causing a conflict...Anyways, its better than nothing..I just wanted a faster medium to transfer files than BT which is painfully slow..
Any idea when are they going to provide an upgrade to BT 2.0 for wizard?

Help setting up wifi router

i have just bought a netgear wifi router and i can not get it to work. does anyone know of a guide to set it up?
RE
Hi!
Netgear haa a very good forum for its products. You can try there for better luck
i found it no help!
getting there now. well i can acess my computer via resco file explorer.
just now need to set the internet up
2 questions,
Do you need to set up the router ? Or do you need to set up your ppc ?
prob both,
i can browse my desktop pc wirelessly using resco file explorer but i can not use the internet.
so it still could be both, i still can not connect to activesync, probably if i can do this i would be able to connect to the net as i can when the blue angle is docked

You might want to down load vxUtil from http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html with this util you can most likely find out what is wrong. You should not need activesync to connect to the Internet, **IF** your router connects to the Internet.
To activesync with the PC you will need to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the PC. Then you'll need to be able to PING your PC by name. And both the PC and the PPC need to be using the same DHCP server, and in the same network.
As you can reach your desktop, have you set both settings to "Work" or some form of this on your PPC, and checked just "This network connects to the Internet" under proxxy settings for the work connection? Each version of the PPC OS seems to change the names here just a bit.

cant get usb to send internet to pda!!!

I have searched everywhere (here and on other sites) and it seems like if I tell the activesync to pass through to the internet, I should have internet on my pda when connected via usb...
This is not happening! I went through all options and used a few troubleshooting things that nobody seems to mention (like ipconfig from the ppc msdos console) and I can't figure this out at all!
I am using a wallaby (siemens sx56) plugged into my laptop, which is wirelessly connected via home network into cable modem. I put every .exe file in the program files/activesync directory on the "pass through" list of the firewall.
When activesync connects, all looks normal unless I try to get online via ie (from the pocket pc). If I go to the ppc dos prompt and try ipconfig, it reads me back 192.168.55.101 as the ip address, and 192.168.55.100 as the gateway. These are not close to my network settings. It can't ping my laptop and my laptop can't ping the ppc using the above address.
What am I missing??? I am using xda-developers operating system and activesync 3.8 on my laptop. PLEASE HELP!!!!
ps. I am planning on getting a wireless card for the ppc - might I still have this problem when I try to connect using that too??
Thanks -- AshayinFLA
wallaby's SD interface dont support SDIO which are wifi and well everything but memory SD cards require
so getting wifi will not help you
activesync have some settings related to sharing the connection
so theres no way to get this thing online (except pay for cellular service or <supposedly> through usb cable)?
That sucks!
Anyway, as for the usb thing, I looked through activesync on my laptop and the only thing i could find is where it should connect to (internet or work). I tried both with no results. Is there anything I'm missing?

Drop it. No way to do it. I've posted here just a few weeks ago, tried everything, with no luck. It simply isn't possible with the latest ActiveSync 4.1, and the older one 3.8 which has the wifi functionality, is not compatible with WM 5.0.
So forget about it. You can connect through wifi, but no synching...
Thank you very much but what is the benefith to connect through wifi?? i cant even send a file or connect to internet!!! At list give me a clue to conect Internet through WiFi & PC. but i think if we do the right Setting for IP in WiFi we would get connected some how....
Connecting through wifi gives you some good things... FOr one, I can stream all my mp3, and movie collection through wifi from PC to my prophet in real time... Yes, even movies work perfectly. So you don't have to keep your mem card full. And you can transfer files to/from PC with little problem.
To set it up, just set up a network on your pc, turn on wifi. Your prophet will discover it, and you can connect to it. Then you need a program like PocketLan, and you can set up a network folder in your prophet which lets you view all the folders you have placed on share on the PC. (so you have to place some folders on share).
I haven't tested sharing an internet connection, but it should not be a problem. I will test tomorrow or tuesday, and let you know.
Cheers.

Resco File Explorer will let you add "share drives" also. You can add directories or drives.
Upss...
It seems that sharing internet connection through wifi is NOT possible with WM5... They have just ruined everything with this stupid upgrade of activesync!
Anyone aware of a work arround so my PC internet connection works on my PPC connected to it with ad-hoc wifi?
as i said i think with IP configuration there might be a way to share it. or i think XDA fellow should program a Stack for this issue on activesyns4.x
Internet over Wi-Fi
you definitely need to do your research better
I have a wi-fi network at home and connect my Prophet to the internet without any problem, and so do thousands of other users.
If you have a wi-fi router, just set it to use the encryption supported by the Prophet. I found that using an authentication of "WPA-PSK" and encryption of TKIP works perfectly.
If you're setting up an ad-hoc network between a pc and the Prophet, you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the PC with the internet connection and voila'
You do not need activesync over wifi to use internet on the Prophet, just use it as a normal pc on wi-fi network. However what they have not been able to do till now is enable Activesync over Wi-fi for synchronisation.
Perhaps you are right Acer, since I was not able to fully test it with your specs.
I have a company cable network LAN, and a wireless adapter on the laptop which is free. But unfortunatelly, I was not able to set up internet sharing of the LAN, since it goes over a Network Bridge. Anyone now how this could be enabled?
THanks for the info Acer, its helpful...

yes i am using XP home Edition and my laptop is Averatec 3200 series
Just go to properties on your dial up internet sharing and set share this connection. i thinks thats about it. i've not use it for a long time, but if I remember correctly that's about it. you have to share it with your WI-FI adapter of course.
Some WI-Fi card can configure this automacticly. Like several I seen. You can set it as a router, and you're good to go.
BUMP @ acer175 ..where are you dude??!!!
Hi lover. Sorry, I thought Munyuk81's response was enough.
Anyway, on Windows XP, open Network Connections, right-click on your dial-up/ADSL connection, selet Properties.
Open the Advanced tab, you should have an Internet Connection SHaring section. Enable "Allow other users to connect etc, etc...". Select the wireless network adapter if given the option. Click YES if asked to change the IP.
Next create a wi-fi network using the XP utlities or your card's utilities. Don't touch the IP address of the wi-fi card.
Next on your Prophet, enable Wi-Fi and it should discover the network by itself. If you set a key in the step above, it will ask you to enter it.
@acer175
Do you know how i can share my Lan internet which goes over a Network Bridge? WHen I removed the Lan from the Network Bridge, I could see the options for ICS, but there was no internet to share, as the connection was lost. Adding it back to the network bridge restores the internet connection, but removes the option for sharing it with the other (wifi) card...
Anyone?
i haven't tried it myself, but thinking logically, when you add a connection to a bridge, it loses its individual attributes. You have to check the properties of the bridge, and check if there are ICS options there, however I do not think that XP allows that, but you can try.
ALso see if this may be helpful:

thanx acer175.
i have connected my PPC to PC but still no internet sharing!! also i have shared some drives and folders in my PC but with resco explorer i cant see any of them

PROBLEM: sharing folder with WiFi...

Hi guys!
I'm trying to use (first time 4 me!) WiFi connection from my laptop and my Jamin in this way:
Start from scratch (without connections...) and turn on both wifi.
Create a new connection for only 2 devices from my Jamin without any security (4 the moment).
Now I can see the new wifi network on my laptop...
I chose connect from my laptop and the connections estabilish.
Handshake to retrieve the ip address is oaky and now I've got the connection from my 2 devices (Jamin and laptop).
On laptop I can ping the ip address of my Jamin but now I don't know what can I do with this connection.
Is it possible to share some folder on laptop and/or on Jamin to copy/remove/move some files?
Is it possible to use the std modem connection of my laptop for browsing the web from Jamin?
Is it possible to sync with Activesync my Jamin?
How can I do it, guys?
So just to clarify. You have a laptop connected to a wifi router, and your Jammin is connected to the same router. But your internet connection is obtained through a standard modem on your laptop. Am I right with all of this?
If so then sharing a folder on your laptop in order for you to browse, stream, rename, open, etc. from your Jammin is a piece of cake. Simply change your sharing values of the folder on your laptop. It should then appear on the network folder on your Jammin. I use Resco Explorer on the Jammin ... I couldn't get the standard file browser to work.
As far as sharing the internet, I'm pretty sure it can be done ... I did a similar thing with bluetooth a few years back but it was messy and unreliable. Can't help you much further sorry.

I need your help, please

Hi,
I'm desperate. I tried now hours after hours but it will not work.
Here is what I want to do.
I have a Toshiba E800 WIFI, operating system is pocketPC 2003SE. Furthermore I have laptop (Windows XP Home) which is connected via wireless to my Router.
Now I will access from my PocketPC and from my laptop to the Internet. Ok, this works. Via WIFI I connect to the router and have access to Internet. Now I try to have access from my PocketPc to my laptop and backwards. This will not work!
I use static IP and when I do a ping from my Laptop (192.168.2.100) to my PocketPC (192.168.2.102) it works and backwards too. Also a ping to my router (192.168.2.1) works from both OS. But I cannot see my folders from the Laptop at the pocketPC and backwards.
I tried Resco explorer and Total commander but it worked not, too.
Can anybody help me to fix the problem before I go crazy?
Thanks a lot.
Can nobody answer this question?
I think I have an error in reasoning but I cannot get on it at the moment.
if your router use wifi and your pda got wifi
you just connect to your router your pc dont need to be on
and unless you have some odd router settings setup
dhcp should auto fill ip gateway and dns to your pda
and give it access to the internet
Yes thank you this works too.
I conect to the Internet via DHCP-Router which is no problem but I have not access to my folder on my laptop and from my laptop to my PDA. This is the problem. Is there any software which can do this for me or can I do some settings in windows by my own?
I think the problem is gone now, the swith for WIFI is broken, sh...
Anybody knows if there is a software possibility to switch it on??
