Hi,
I have a WiFi Netgear DG834GT 108 Mbps Router. No problem with internet access...but I would like to share files with my PC. How can I do? What SW should I need on my JJ and hoe to set router and JJ both to get them work?
THX so much for any help!
the easiest way is to use something like Resco File Explorer, an advanced version of the bundled file exploroer in WM5.
It costs about 20 dollars i believe.
Once installed, map your network drive to your home network and it should see it and file transfer will then be possible, as long as your shared folders are correct etc, as per any network

Thx for your reply,
I just want to use Resco File Explorer plug in called "My Network"...but it doesn't map any drive. I also have tried to change JJ setting in "configure network Adapters/My network card connects to" from "the internet" to "Work", but coming back to RescoExpl. and trying to Map Drive option, it didn't find anything once again.
Please help me with config if you can.
THX a lot!
ok, you have resco file explorer, so open it up, hold your styli on the My Network tab on left, and select map drive. A new window will open as it searches for your home network/pc shared foler etc. if it fails to find it like that, check you 'Hive' PC's name and make sure you have a folder selected to Share. Try that and let me know. (PS make sure wifi is on first on both exec and router!)
Thank you very much I DID IT!
Well Done!!! Thats great glad to help, now enjoy streaming your music and videos to your exec whilst in the bath/garden/sofa!!
My good friend...
can you help me to let my JasJar print via WiFi??? In other words, is it possible to launch a print from JasJar via WiFi, by shareing my PC printer?
Am I asking too much?

Hey hey!
aha! The only way i have ever done it unfortunatley is through terminal services client. So, open say, a word document from either your server PC or on your pocket PC, and save back to the shared on your desktop on your server PC and then via Terminal Services remote desktop and open the doc from your JJ screen and send to print from you server PC!
Long winded I know, anyone else got a better solution?
Hope that helps!
Uhm..I still have not tried your solution...but do you think there is any third party software that can do it, simply shareing printer via WiFi?
ill have a look, never really had a need myself, but ill have a look around, might be a good thing! Ill post if i find anything ok
Ok, thx...I'll take a look around too. I thought it would be useful for example if you receive an email on jasjar and you should print it to have it like a document...without further steps, directly from JJ...
HP has printer drivers for PPC!
They even support some Canon printers..
uhm..I have found Print Pocket CE, but it doesn't support WM2005 Office files, and PrintBoy...but I don't' know if it is compatible...
Any suggestion?
I have a wireless router and have managed to set up my Home PC and my Wizard so i can browse shared folders on my PC from my wizard. My wife has recently aquired a wizard also and I am trying to set it up so we can share files between the two wizards by mapping/sharing folders on each device.
I have resco explorer on both devices but if I try to map a location on her device from within resco, i can see her device name, but i cant get access to a folder by typing "\\her_name\My Documents" for example.
Anyone got any idea's where i'm going wrong??
Is there a way to share certain files or will it just work on a PPC?
Obviously you are both in the house at the same time to do this.
Why not just do it directly?
I don't think the wizard has a samba server on it, it's only a client. you can share files fast over a PC or, if they're small, by bluetooth!
Hi, thanks for your responses, but i'm not trying to connect them directly to each other. I mean via the wireless router, the router is set up as a gateway.
It is possible to actually see each others devices in the "map network drive" window of resco explorer, but it tells me i "dont have permission or it cant find the network resource" if i try to map a folder on the pocket pc.
It would seem as though i'm just a step away from solving this but i'm not an expert at networking.
Sorry if i didn't explain myself properly in the first message.
EDIT: I know it could be done by bluetooth, but i was just wondering if it was possible
like i said, i don't think WM has an integrated Samba Server, only a client. you can only connect to network resources, not host files etc.
This topic reads so much better if you imagine it as being 2 actual wizards sharing nail files
Off topic I know but I couldn't resist
Sorry - I looked at it from a practical perspective, not as a challenge or theoretical project.

Hi Guys
I am having trouble mapping my M3100 to my Synology Diskstation (DS-101) network attached storage. I can successfully map to any shared drives on my desktop PC over WIFI but i cannot map to the diskstation. I have changed access rights on the diskstation to allow full access by "anyone" by allowing full rights to guest users.
please advise. i have posted this on experts exchange but know one has been able to help.
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Q_21960370.html
I dont know if its of help but I use a progrtam called Resco File Exploraer. You can download it as a trial from handango etc. I use it with Thecus and Buffulo NAS to exchange and stream files with no problems

Could we start with what error you get.
There is no issue with wm5 and external drives.
Assuming you are connected to your network ok, then its usually a case of going to file explorer and open path.
My external drive is called share1 so \\share1 would work for me
hi guys,
ok i also use resco file explorer.
when i click on map network drive, i get the "computers near me" where i see my desktop and the diskstation. now when i click on the + next to my desktop, i can see and access the shared folders ok. when i click on the + next to the diskstation i get the following error:
Cannot connect shared path. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. Please advise!!
also, when i map a network drive either using the the IP address, e.g. \\196.168.0.4\public (where 192.168.0.4 = the NAS - i use this method to map to the drives on my PC) or \\diskstation\public, i get the following error
cannot map network path. Network resource cannot be found or you do not have a permission to access the network. Contact your network administrator
Tricky.
Have you managed to succesfully map your drive on your desktop. On my NAS there is a folder called 'share' which i used instead of 'group'.
So click on your diskstation icon in My Computer. click on tools...map network drive..follow the instructions where "drive letter \\diskstation name\share". Click on browse and you should see a list of avilable folders (eg info, share etc) in either your workgroup or Mshome. Click on the folder you will put all your data (in my case...share). Put your password in and see if it maps ok.
I have a Linkstation and seem to remember having similar problems ages ago. Dont mean to be cheeky, but have to set the IP settings and the workgroup settings ok on your diskstation.
ok thank youf or your help i will give it a go.
both desktop and diskstation are on the same work group, IP is assigned by DHCP. Does the pocket pc need to be on the same work group as well?
no luck i am afraid - when i click on map network drive, in the list beneath "computers near me" i can see both the diskstation and my desktop. when i click on the plus next to the diskstation it says:
cannot connect share path. the specified server cannot perform the requested operation
This is very confusing.
Im not sure whether you've mapped your drive on your desktop ok. When you open 'My Computer' on your desktop do you see the diskstation as an icon and when you double click the icon does it open so you can see your stored files?
i have no problems what so ever accessing it via my desktop, i can see all the folders and browse the contents as well. the only issue is with the pocket pc. Previously, i have tried the SPV M2000, and it has failed to connect giving the same error message - suggesting that my device isnt faulty, either it is not possible to access the diskstation, or the settings are incorrect!
Im really not sure what the problem is then. Sorry.
I have 2 NAS and I remember having problems with resco file explorer until I mapped them on my desktop. Once I mapped network drive using windows settings it was plain sailing. I can stream, transfer etc files no probs.
Sorry I couldn't be of any help
oh well. many thanks for your help
Hey
I've had my Orange SPV 3100 for about a week and a half now. 1st impressions is great. Just awaiting for the microSD to be delivered (Tight gits Orange dont provide one in the box ) to take full advantage of the M3100's capabilities.
Anyways
I've been accessing the web through my home wi-fi set up but what I really want to do is be able to access my files on my PC thru my M3100 using wi-fi rather than being conected using the USB and vice versa. Ideally i want to be able to copy files between the two. I've searched on this forum and others but havent come across anything yet I was just wondering if this was possible and how I'd go about doing it.
Thanks in Advance
All Help Appreciated.
Yeah, I"m interested in this too.
I have googling few days with different queries for accessing PPC files over WiFi, but without success.
The only software I have found which can access files from PPC over WiFi is SOTI Pocket Controller Pro, but it is far from ideal (e.g. cannot map PPC folder to drive on desktop PC) so you can only copy/move files between this app and windows explorer. Using file managers like Total Commander isn"t possible or other software (e.g. sync software) which access data by drive letters.
Second solution which I have is to set up FTP server on PPC (like ShareIT FTP Server) and use ftp-to-drive software on desktop PC, but I havn"t test this yet). In this case using Total Commander and other file managers would be possible, but I havn"t yet test this.
The last possible solution would be sharing desktop PC folder as an virtual storage card with microsoft network file sharing service and accessing it from PPC by apps like PocketLAN - but this is accessing PC"s files from PPC - which is not point of interest of this thread.
So finally, I havn"t found easy way to access PPC storage over WiFi.
Anyone have other ideas?
I'm new to windows mobile, but been using my P3600 for 2 weeks and the thing that is anoying is not being able to run files directly from a network path. (the lack of a task manager was more anoying but it's solved).
I want to be able to browse fotos on a network path, or run a cab file on a network without having to copy files to device or storage card.
Do I need a 3rd party software? Can I map a location to a drive?
Pretty sure that a 3rd party app. is necessary; at least I've never seen a way to do what you want without a such.
Resco Explorer is an example of such an app. It has the functionality to allocate and access a shared drive on e.g. a PC: http://www.resco.net/
There are probably other apps. that can do the same, but I have only used Resco myself.
I've tried Resco but could never get it to find my computer....Is there anyway of setting a workgroup name within resco?
Thanks

Just to be sure what you mean:
When you say that Resco can't find your computer, does this mean that the computer is not shown under 'My Network'?
I can't actually see my computer under 'My Network', but when I use the 'Map Drive...' option, then it shows up under 'Computers Near Me', and in the window under the 'Map Drive...' there is also the possibility to enter the network path for the shared drive, i.e. like \\MYPC\drive, and then press the 'Share' button after which I'm promted for the user and password to use for logging on to the PC.
I have never had to use a Workgroup name to make it work.
Yea it doesant show in the box but when i type in where its located
\\MAIN\Shared
It comes up with cannot map network path.
Ive got it fine uisng my laptop to my main pc using the above (\\MAIN\Shared)
Just cant seem to get it to map the drive within resco...I thought it would of had something to do with the workgroup.
Thanks anyways
ill keep trying see if i can get it to work.
Just a thought:
Are you sure that the phone and the PC are in the same IP subnet?
Ahhhh....How would i find this out......is it something along the lines of 255.255
I've set it to auto detect within resco......i suspect this may be the problem
Thanks
You can find the IP address of the phone in Start->Settings->Connections->Wireless LAN under the Advanced tab.
If you compare it to the IP address of the PC, then the first 3 parts of the addresses should be the same for them to be in the same subnet.
Ahh got it to work now that was the problem ...thanks alot Its much appreciated

Look for NetUse in the list.
"It allows you to freely browse your local network on your Pocket PC. Basically it does the same thing Resco viewer does, but for free."
With resco is it possible to play audio files from a network with WMP?
Not that I have spend a lot of time trying, but I haven't been able to play an audio file from a network drive with WMP.
It seems to me that WMP can't actually access such a drive, but as mentioned, I haven't spend much time with WMP since I'm using TCPMP, and with this it certainly is possible to play a file on a network drive.
Staying with netuse
I'm using netuse, and it's just what I needed and I recommend it to everybody that doesn't need all the features resco has, because it's a free solution.
Anyway WMP or builtin photo viewer can't access files on network. I need to use another video player and picture viewer.
can someone post a guide for netuse
Netuse doesn't work for me, it sees my MSHOME network but i can acces a path.
gr jeroen
using netuse
You just add the adress of shared folders on your network (as you would in a desktop computer) and those folders apear as local subfolders on a network folder on the device.
- On options "show the network folder" should be enable and you can type in your default domain (should work without it).
- If you're not able to access folders anyway it's probably a network problem ( firewall, etc.)
