ATI IMAGEON enabled device....HTC Hermes..it's all good!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Ive complained and said enough already. For once I'm pleased to share some nice info not just problems.
see link below:
http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=37386#37386
It is a rather long post, so if your not in the mood just skip straight to the links at the bottom of the above mentioned post. For those (like me until recently) don't know what exactly a ATI IMAGEON enabled device is, it's well worth a look, especially for those of us who have already forked out for one.

Well, NO, unfortunately it doesn't work properly on the Hermes.
Try it, with something like TCPMP and enable it. You will see the screen jerks, shutters, and fuzzes. (Especially with BlueTooth enabled).
Looks like it another bug with the current rom.

Does work in the Hermes and better than the Universal...
Actually...it DOES work in the Hermes but obviously didn't read the provided link to more info. Where do you think the screenshot came from? It only works with MP4 format files (when using ATI IMAGEON decoder or the option below it) as that is what the processor and co-processor were specifically designed to support. For any other format e.g. Divx or xvid, you'd have to revert to RAWFRAMEBUFFER mode until compatibility had been achieved with 3rd Party Software. It is a bit of a bummer, but then there are already many other benefits that ATI brings that most are probably not aware of, like good MP4 quality recording (hence exclusive support for this format in its co-processor).
The hermes is even capable of outperforming the mighty 520MHz Universal in videoplayback (but only when utilising the ATI decoder - which still has the scrambled interface until you start the video/benchmarking)

What Multimedia co-processor is in the HTC Hermes?

I've been looking for some time, but have come up empty handed. Can anybody direct me to a link that shows exactly what components are in the HTC Hermes? I'm specifically trying to find out which ATI Imageon co-processor is used, so I can optimise video encoding to make use of the ATI decoder on board. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I will gladly share my future findings for everyones benefit.
Knowing this will help us also know what software will benefit from the co-procesor i.e. GPS, Games and other 3rd Party software. Thanks in advance.
ATI 3200 co-processor it is NOT!!
Hi all. It seems no one is able to add any further info on the hardware/co-procesor of the Hermes.
I'm trying to get the on-board ATI decoder to do its job, but need to find out which co-processor exactly the hermes has. In TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player-INMO the best Multi format Media player for PPC devices) folder in the Program Files directory, you can find a file called 'ati3200'. Version 0.66 of TCPMP has such a file dated 9th September 2005; the 0.72version however has an updated file (same name) dated 22nd Febuary 2006! Obviously this has been updated with the later versions of TCPMP, but it seems evident that it is only for that version of the ATI Imageon co-processor.
Back to my point; if we can firmly establish which co-processor we have in the Hermes, we'll b that much closer to getting support in TCPMP for our hardware accellerated ATI decoder, giving us the much needed performance boost we are currently lacking in videoplayback.
Your help is still much needed, so if anyone can contribute any info relating to which ATI co-processor resides in the Hermes, please share.
Cheers all.
Edit: After having uninstalled version 0.66 of TCPMP and re-installing v0.72rc, plus all codec inluding .aac audio plugin, I forgot to make the associations in TCPMP. So when trying to play a movie I encoded to MP4 (using ImToo DVD 2 iPod Converter) I noticed that WMPlayer plays back the movie file flawlessly without even a single jerk during forward/rewind searches or pause & resume playback. There are NO lip-syncing issues at any time either. It may be premature to say so, but it seems that MP4 hardware accelleration is taking place with the ATI decoder in WMP10 but TCPMP strggles to do it with the same codec but is able to play the file in the inferior RWFRAMEBUFFER mode, which also results in playback being jerky, fuzzy, scrambled etc; therefore indicating that the problem does in fact lie with TCPMP, especially as it only seems to support 1 of the many types of coprocessors in ATI Imageons range!
Not exactly the result I was hoping for, in that this excellent playback cannot be currently achieved in TCPMP. However, I welcome anyone to try it and see for themselves. However WMP10 lacks the settings of TCPMP and where some films may be a tad bit too dark or undersaturated, TCPMP can easily deal with this in its 'Colour' menu under Options settings.
Imageon 2282 it is then. Dissapointed!!
Well at long last thanks to mikechannon for the internal pics of a TyTN, we now know it's a ATI 2282 Co-processor:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1028601&posted=1#post1028601
Well I'm somewhat dissapointed as ATI have considerably more powerful chips that Samsung/HTC could have used, but the benefits are nonetheless worthwhile as it takes the strain off of the main CPU.
Now to let Corecodec know, so they can hopefully implement compatibility with TCPMP and the ATI hardware chip.

It's been 2 months, so I wouldn't count on that

TCPMP Fuzzy screen

Did you try TCPMP on Trinity ? Because on mine the screen is flashing and I can't see trought pocket controller too.
Before I've jammin and It work with no problem.
I use tcpmp 72rc1
Any help ? :_)
Thanks

Direct Draw didn't work for me (actually made it worse). The video driver mode that seems to work best (at least on my P3600) is Raw FrameBuffer.
I set the video at GDI and its working fine. My TCPMP is ver 0.81RC1Beta
on my side all the settings are working more or less.
I already got some fuzzy screen but when I press stop (actually I don't see the button but if I press on the place it stand usually ..) the screen is OK.
Now when I watch TV broadcast from my PC (with my internet provider) in mpeg1 384kbs it is better with direct draw than with ATI Imageon whci works better than ATI imageon decoder ....
TCPMP / Coreplayer Doesn't support the combination Samsung CPU ATI Imageon chip, in Coreplayers forum their is a lot of information about that, they are trying to get info about the chip from ATI but no luck yet. Raw Framebuffer seems to work, but gives a really slow TCPMP/Coreplayer. Until the problems are solved I use to convert my movies to "Ipod" format .mp4 wihich Mediaplayer in Trinity supports through the ATI chip, an .mp4 file of 768kbps and 30fps runs smooth in WMP

MP4, huh? I'll have to try that out. WMV playback in Windows Media Player is still slow and sucks just like TCPMP/Coreplayer.

Very Interesting Coreplayer results

Hi,
okay I was playing around with Coreplayer changing settings etc from Raw Framebuffer (which is currently the only stable way to play video) to GDI and then to ATI Imageon, which we all know causes problems (hence why we use Raw Framebuffer)
For some reason it became stable with one video that I was playing using ATI Imageon - so seized the opportunity to benchmark the video; first using Raw Framebuffer:
Results:
Speed: 71%
Original data rate: 1.60mbs
Bench data rate: 1.15mbs
Then using ATI Imageon (with a few jitters):
Speed: 197%
Original data rate: 1.60mbs
Bench data rate: 2.78mbs
And I gotta say apart from a few jitters and glitches the video when using ATI Imageon looked amazing like it was anti-aliased.
Can't wait to Coreplayer is optimised to work Samsung and ATI combo inside the Trinity!
Strange, I use tcpmp with ATI Imageon on almost all files... Works like a charm...
I use tcpmp with the ATI Imagion and it gives weird screen flickering (entire screen, not just video). After I switch forth and back between fullscreen and windowed mode a couple of times I can mostly get it to show the video. I do however not find the quality of the output particular good - rather bad actually and full of artifacts compared to the other modes
Exactly
What I am saying is when Coreplayer is optimised for ATI/Samsung combo it will work treat - hence the benchmark results. Showing a DRAMATIC performance increase.
This thread was designed to show what will come when software and or ROM's are worked on with the Trinity to use it's full potential.
core player
hey trinity ,
i m new in this forum
i need the core player ..will u plz send me the core player on [email protected] or on the same forum .....

Tcpmp Mod With GoForce 5500 Hardware Decoder (alpha 1)

Say hello to this new TCPMP mod
It has:
1. Hardware MPEG4 decoder, resolution up to 720*576, bitrate up to 1mbps
2. File container support: AVI, MP4 and MKV (not tested)
3. Hardware overlay accelerated output.
4. Works on G900/X01T/FLAME
How to use:
1. Settings->Video->Choose "GoForce 5500"
2. All smooth, dither and video quality options are useless since all process is done inside GPU.
READ BEFORE USE:
1. Videos with resolution larger than 720 * 576 can't decode properly (this is caused by hardware limit)
2. Videos with MPEG4 profile > Sample Level 3 will need extra GPU processing power and may not be able to decode properly.
3. If you want to use TCPMP after you have ran CorePlayer with overlay mode, please do a softreset first, otherwise there'll be artifacts on video image and system may hung. this is caused by code defect in nv ddraw driver.
4. *Important* Please do not power off / enter stand by mode when playing with TCPMP, otherwise the system will become sleepbeauty
Issues and tips:
1. GF5500 hardware decoder has 2 modes. 1st is DSP mode, entire decoding job is done by DSP embedded in GPU in this mode. This mode saves CPU processing power and battery, but it's a little slower. 2nd is CPU mode, CPU will share the load in this mode. This mode requires more CPU processing power but it's faster than mode1.
You can always switching between the 2 modes by:HKLM/Software/NVIDIA Corporation/GFSDK/GFSDK_MP4_DEC_USE_DSP. Set 1 will use DSP mode, set 2 will use CPU mode.
2. After some benchmark, I've found that hw decoder can't offer better performance than sw decoder, however, a big advantage is hw decoder saves your battery life.
---
Develop plan:
Currently I'm working on a generic driver for GF5500 which is able to accelerate all SW decoders for TCPMP, which will have the best performane.

Jpeg .mov files
I am using an old version of TCPMP and it works with my Files above with
ATI IMAGEON(very slowly on my ameo) . Now your new version dosn`t have this driver. Your version seems to be very quick. Is there a way to see my files with this quicker version of tcpmp
i took the zip and just copied over my current tcpmp configuration, but i dont see the goforce option under video. am i missing something? i only copied over the files as i flashvideobundle associated to the appropriate folder and still want to use it. thanks for the update to tcpmp by the way.
Great news for all Toshiba G900 and XDA Flame users

exactly!
i didnt see "goforce" either.
so is there something we're missing..oh better yet..how about install instructions, it seems like its a 2 - 3 step process at the most.
Hey guys! This is ONLY for devices with Nvidia Goforce 5500 GPU !!
What's more, it doesnt work on WM5 (like the official Xda Flame ROM)...
Anyway its a great start and congratulations to the developer
Wow! Great work!
Good!
this is great work!
i feel the better performance than cpu only mode.
now g900 can play the movie! ^_^
Thanks guys I will check this on my I-mate 8150
there's a new alpha release (Alpha 3 Fix2) with many improvements!!
check it out here:

Has anyone been using this extensively?
I downloaded it and it seems to support more codecs than coreplayer 1.3...
Tried it on my THD.. emm.. one of the video (WVGA) encoded using MP4forHD play pretty smoothly tho' at a lower resolution, while the other 3 video can't be played as the movie is 'dragging its feet' or jumping frame. But the quality of the old QGVA video seems to be displaying pretty nicely tho'.. or just my wrong impression??
phones like yours -with no Goforce 5500 chip-, can use only the software mode.
even with this only, perhaps it might benefit you with some files.

WMP & Coreplayer on X1

Hi,
Got my Xperia X1 the other day, I have got Coreplayer Mobile as well as the WMP on the phone. I have copied the videos I took with my Nokia N95 to the memory card Ive got in the Xperia.
However when it comes to playing them WMP will play them but it stutters alot with the sound being ahead of the video. In coreplayer there is no video only sound.
Any of you guys got any suggestions to get the video playing smoothly. The videos are .mp4.
Thanks
Try to set in Videosettings QTv Display, here I get a picture and it works ok, not the promissed 30 fps but arount 20 fps with a HDTV Movie.

I tried that. I changed to the DirectDraw option and it plays the James Bond Trailer no problem but the videos from my Nokia N95 still stutter alot

Then I don't have any more ideas. Perhaps it'll help trying TCMP instead of Coreplayer?!
Found this on Coreplayers website:
CE/Windows Mobile/PocketPC/Smartphone

Is anyone running Coreplayer? Is there anything better?
I've tried to find a resolution/bitrate which gives me smooth video without stuttering and dropouts. I've tested on CorePlayer with DivX and native mp4 codecs.
With a resolution of 400x240, 25fps, 1100kBit/s I get a picture without dropouts and a benchmark around 105%.
If I go higher in resolution I start getting dropouts.
I've set the CorePlayer to Microdrive mode and doubled the size of the buffer to increase the speed when reading from the memory card.
I've tried to copy the clip to the phone memory, but with the above settings I see no difference.
My conclusion is that if you want a smooth picture, don't go above the mentioned resolution. It won't give you that crisp picture, but I get more annoyed when the film is stuttering than getting a HD resolution on a 3" display.
I have no problem seeing mp4 on the CorePlayer though. But if I uncheck the "TyTN II driver mode" in QTv Display settings, I get only sound, no picture, despite the MSM7200 chipset . Don't know if the Nokia's format differs from the one I have used (Cucusoft Ultimate DVD).
Is there anyone else who manages getting a higher picture quality without any dropped frames?
Got this from the Coreplayer forums:
'We are on the verge of the v1.3 bug fix release that addresses many of the current issues including those diamond users running WM 6.1...... however it does not address the QTV issues since there is nothing we can control there other then to express our dismay to both HTC and Qualcomm for not opening up the GPU.
Hey... we've been here before.... lets hope for a more open solution soon enough.'
I wonder what SE's position is on this? Apparently it's meant to have a decent GPU but what's the use if we can't use it? I know one or two people here have contacts with SE - anybody wish to find out?
Praying for hardware supported video playback...
but they said that X1 uses ATI GPU not Qualcomm!
Another lies from SE?
Hey guys, i know this is abit off topic, but has any of you guys had the problem were you install core player, then play a video, and then you exit and go back into it and you the the message "cannot validate the serial number/user ID"? i have uninstalled and reinstalled heaps of times, tried different serial numbers, but it happens all the time use it once, and then the message comes up when you go back into it.

Why do you have multiple serial numbers?
Surely it's one Serial per IMEI?
im running coreplayer latest version, and i'm playing divX files direct from my coputr, no downsample full reselution, and with 30fps usibg qtv, it's awsome!

for real ? 640x480 24FPS at 800kbs is really laggy for me when playing in CorePlayer using QTV Video Output.

Says who, I haven't seen any info about it, any links please.
Of course the qualcomm chip has indeed 3D hardware acceleration but I don't know if it is ATI.
unbelieveable how unprofessional are they! 1st the RAM debate, and now this; not to mention that bad launching and availability.
It is rather disappointing. Even the fish panel is hardly super smooth, leading me to wonder if even that uses the GPU acceleration.
I really do hope SE allow and encourage developers to tap the GPU of the X1 otherwise its little better than all the other WM phones.
I have hope that someone with a reputation like SE will see the sense supporting the developers. The "write something for the panel" is not good enough. The radio is a panel and as the panel is like the home screen, anything on it is turned off when I navigate away from it including the radio.
I really do hope they do not turn out to be as bad as networks like T-Mobile which can't be bothered to support HTC rebranded phones even if its got their name stuck on them.
after using it for 3 days it is now clear that the panels just use low res screenshots and no live data. They dont even update them, i live in germany and when accessing panels the screenshot says New York etc until it finally updates.
So for the panels just being low res screenshots (that must be only some KBs per panel) the performance is horrible and laggy. Cant believe they use any form of hardware acceleration for that either.

If the video is encoded in H.264 it's going to be lagging full on. Half of the frame will get dropped. Playing 720x400 24FPS at 1Mbps encoded with XviD on the other hand is smooth and not a single frame is dropped. I've tested this with TP.
Does anyone know how to change the default streaming video player to Coreplayer?
It's very annoying when browsing and the Streaming Player kicks in rather than Coreplayer. I've associated 3gp, mpeg4, etc. with CP but doesn't seem to make any difference.
