I've lost all the contacts on my wm6 address book... Is there any way i could get them back?
Here's what i did.. basically i connected my mobile trough activesync (using windows xp) and i though it would be neat to backup my contacts also (i didn't have the contacts checked in the sync options of activesync). After i checked the contacts and clicked the sync button all the contacts from my mobile were gone.
I don't use outlook even though i have outlook 2007 installed.
Also everything that was checked to sync has gone (notes, tasks etc)
first you may check if _pim.vol_ file in the root directory exist. you may open it with excel on the computer and try to read your contacts. if no, say good bye to your contacts
second: it was said to WM users many times !!always backup your data!!
use _contacts backup_ utility on your pda, or save it in outlook, and you'll never have problems.
Check the deleted folder in outlook. Assuming u sync with outlook. They may all be there - worked for me before, just copy them back into contact and let it sync back...
Hey guys,
i am new with smartphones/ppc especialy with the Hermes. i am using it for about 3 weeks and wanted to save my contacts on the pc. so i installed outlook and active sync and it synced automaticly but insted of save all my contacts and calendarentries on the pc, it deleted all on my phone! I think its because the outlook database was empty and it synced just in one direction. is there any possibility to restore the data?
please its very important!
kind regards

On Windows Vista i used to sync my phone through the Windows Mobile Device Center, and Microsoft Outlook, and get all my contacts from phone to the pc, and if my phone was hooked up also, if i add a new contact or change a detail of an older one in MS Outlook, it would immediately take change in my phone also..
Now a couple of weeks ago i put up Windows 7, and install the Outlook Connector, and now when i connect my phone, it wants to send all the hotmail contacts that i have right into my phone, which i dont want ofcourse, and if i try to delete them, they would delete from my address book and from MSN Messenger also! so im stuck here, im not even hooking up my phone to the computer cause otherwise i'll have my whole phone's contact list messed up with a bunch of email addresses of a bunch of people that i dont need on my phone, and that i cant delete cause i dont want to lose them from my computer or my MSN list either.. this is stressing!! hahaha, so if anyone had this, or knows how to set the Outlook/Connector/WMDC to keep outlook(hotmail) contacts on my computer and sync my phone contacts in a diferent folder without mixing them together, please, it would help me a lot!
EDIT: when i installed windows live on the phone, i unchecked the option of syncing my hotmail contacts, so thats not whats causing it, its purely because of Outlook..
Running Outlook 2007 - Connector - on XP sp3
When I set-up the Hotmail contacts installed to a separate address book. So my Outlook contacts are in "Contacts" whilst the Hotmail are in "Contacts in n****@hotmail.co.uk"
I know that you don't have Activesync which only sycns the main contacts folder. Are there other options in W7 version of AS (sorry can't remember the name). Do your hotmail contacts show in a separate contact folder?
I've lost my outlook connector toolbar and can't remember if it had additional settings.
Nev
in windows 7 i have windows mobile device center, and now i only have 1 "contacts" folder. thats the main problem i think, thats why everything is in the same "contants" , i remember a while ago, when everything used to work good, i did have a "Contacts" and seperate i had "Contacts in [email protected]"
any idea how to add/seperate them?
Not sure... Have tried uninstalling - but didn't seem to dump all of the data and on re-install has done every thing automatically..
see here
I tried to re-install to see if there were any additional setting, but I didn't remove properly.
Have a look under the account settings. You should have two data files... Are the mails being delivered to a different mailbox?
i still cant figure this out!
now i know the problem is that i have the same "contacts" folder both for my outlook contacts and for my hotmail contacts,,, i need to seperate them.. if anyone knows how?
Hi There!
I notice that since moving my sim card from my i8910 where I didn't have duplicate contacts, that when I installed it in my new hd2, I do have duplicates but can't determine why. Usually it's because you have both sim and phone contacts displayed, but I haven't copied them to the phone yet.
i am concerned about deleting them for fear of losing them.
Also I expected contacts and on my list at the bottom I have "people" instead, and when I "add contact" it creates a new blank contact.
Where is the contacts?
Really? No-one knows the answer or has had this problem before?
Bump? Anyone?
If you remove the SIM and boot your phone, do you still have the duplicates?
Lets clarify it, do you have double contacts on your sim?
Contacts on sim have different icon them contacts on phone, does all your contacts have the same icon?
Did you sync your phone with the pc?

Nope, no contacts at all, Seems like the dupes are on the sim, though they don't show up as dupes on another phone I have here. Is there a nice tool for cleaning dupes off a sim?

Never sync'd, but all contacts look like sim contacts.
That is quit weird, I think sktools has an option to scan and delete duplicate contasts, appointments, tasks, ... U can try it. Before that backup your contacts, just in case.

Why dont you just use Microsoft MyPhone to sync all contact info. When you log in to your account then on desktop pc just click the button "search for duplicates" and there you go. You also can add/edit/delete/... every single contact info via the web interace. And next time when you click sync in your phone the changes will be made to the contacts on your phone. (also u can sync the calender, pictures, videos, even the storage card...)
Microsoft MyPhone is probably the best thing MS invented for their phones. and it works soo soo good
I tried to use MS My Phone, the problem is that it won't sync contacts on my sim, and it appears this is where the duplicates are.
I need a tool that will allow me to edit sim contacts on my PC
Copy sim contacts to outlook, delete everything on card, sync with myphone, remove duplicates, copy back to sim? Don't know if that last step is possible though...
Anyway, I really wonder how one can still use SIM contacts for everything... I haven't used SIM contacts anymore for the past ~8 years...
I could actually kill someone right now.
I copied sim to contacts, contacts to My Phone. Deleted Sim Contacts (using sim manager which I didn't know deleted contacts as well), then sync'd to My Phone and now I have 0 contacts anywhere!
I didn't know know myphone was a one way sync, now I just lost 165 contacts!
I wonder what the chances of sim contacts recovery is?
I had another phone that had a copy of my contacts from 2 months ago. Thank the Gods! Not impressed with Windows Mobile and it's crappy Contact Management though!

It's not, but it's perfectly normal it acted that way. Sync works both ways, once you have set up a sync relationship, the modifications on one side will follow the ones on the other side. That's the whole point of syncing.
I.e if you modify/delete a contact on myphone, it will modifiy/delete it on the phone on next sync. If you modify/delete on the phone, next sync will apply that to myphone. As you deleted everything on the phone, it's normal that next sync deletes them on myphone too. It can't guess the deletion wasn't intentional... You should not have synced, but have either run a restore operation, or deleted/recreated the partnership checking that myphone overwrites device.
Every sync system works that way, not just winmo/outlook/myphone... you just need to learn it

Check the "Archive" section on the MyPhone website, they are in there.
Hello,
Can someone please help me to correctly backup my contacts from the phone to the PC?
I have the correct contact list on the phone and want to back it up to the OUtlook address book. When I use HTC Sync, it synchronizes both ways, I think, so even if I deleted some useless contacts in the phone, when I want to back it up to the PC, it brings back the contacts from the PC back in the phone. I basically want the contact list from the PC to be a perfect mirror of the one in the phone and not the other way around. I could do that if I deleted the PC contact list before synching, each time, but I am wondering if there is an easier solution.
Thank you!
