Wifi Guide - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Does anyone have a wifi guide for a complete dummie? I'm having so much trouble connecting to wifi, and I don't have an unlimited data plan, so I don't want to accidentally use the internet without wifi! Thank you so much.

An explanation of what you would like to do would be helpful.
We would then know which way to advise you.
It's not hard once you know, it's just gathering that knowlege that can be hard at first.

You're right! Thanks for the reply but I've found out how to configure it. My Linksys restricted my Wizard's mac address so it couldn't connect.
Thank you.

Using the wizard GPRS as a modem for a laptop

Sorry if this has been asked before. I couldnt find anything searching.
My question is, is it possible to use my wizard's GPRS connection as a modem for my laptop?
THanks in advance!
Also, I'd like to be doing this via USB.
Thanks

For some reason they call it "tethering" which is accurate but a little confusing.
Heres a nice guide for doing this:

Wifi problems

Last night my wifi started acting funny, I thought a soft reset would do the trick but no luck, So then I reset my router & motem still no change I even checked to make sure the phone had my router's IP and it does.
If any one else has had these issues and can help it would be greatly appreciated

There's a good chance you can get a hand with that, but it will help to know exactly what "started acting funny" means. Does it keep dropping the connection? Does it never connect anymore in the first place?

What is "acting funny"? Specific and clear information is needed to help with problems like this.
EDIT: sirphunkee beat me to the punch.
Sorry about that

The same thing happened to me...It was when I installed the HTC Wifi Sharing Cab. It worked great when I need to connect my laptop to my phone for tethering. Since then I was not able to get me wifi to connect to any wifi connection at all. I uninstalled the HTC Wifi sharing and presto. I was able to connect again! I am not sure if this is your situation but this happened to me and that is what fixed my problem.

WiFi Sharing

I've successfully installed and used the WiFi sharing app but have found a few things that would be useful such as:
Variable length, alpha and/or numeric Key for access.
Ability to turn ON/OFF the SSID broadcast.
MAC Address Filtering (limit access to certain MAC addresses).
Ability to support WEP and WPA (one or the other).
Anyone have any thoughts on this or registry mods that may implement the above? I just don't feel very secure with broadcasting the SSID and not having a more robust key or encryption.
how did you get the wifi sharing to work? i have tried numerous avenues, and two different cab. files, but i cannot get it to work. here is the short thread i started to get some help, but i still cant get it to work. any suggesttions you have? thanks i really need this to work.

I just installed the .cab file, re-booted the HTC HD2, and when I turned on sharing I just entered the desired SSID and a 10 digit numeric key for my PC to use when logging into the HTC. That's it, nothing special.
I'm just looking for alternatives that do NOT broadcast the SSID and have better encription and key alternatives.

I honestly haven't seen any solutions that incorporate all that, though I have seen the same question asked several times. It's not really an perfect solution (mainly the fact it only does ad-hoc connections), just gets the job done in a pinch.
cornholio, which exact cab did you use that worked for you? There's a couple available, and we're still trying to get one of them to work for poor tippingvan here...
I use "XDA-Tom_Codon CM Wifi Internet Sharing"

tippingvan, I don't think that's one of the ones you already tried, is it? I never tried that one on my HD2, only my TP2, but here it is if you haven't
sirphunkee, i have it on my hd2 and tp2, it works great on both .

Thanks for the confirmation..I had suspected it would work, just haven't tried it m'self. But...I think soon I'm going to need to just try each one of the (at least 3) cabs floating around for wifi sharing and see if I can figure out the exact differences

still doesnt work, this one says that there is a connection on my phone, but not on my laptop. I'm gonna try another laptop and see if it works.
the xda wifi sharing is working great on my TMOUS HD2, but I dont understand the different options under "internet connection" heading. wap.voicestream...., internet2.voicestream....,etc.
currently using internet3.voicestream and all is fine. But it seems to only allow a tethered connection when I have my wifi toggled 'on'. what if Im out of wifi range?
uhm i use Tom Codon's CMinternetsharing but i wish i could pair to more devices. i want it to be a wifi router not wireless tether. help?

In my experience, if you use the epc.tmobile.com or wap.voicestream.com, you may possibly run into 2 issues. Both of those can be throttled, and if you use wifi sharing while roaming, it may deny access and all you get is a white page telling you your roaming, internet plan not appliable or some crap.
On my hd2, if i use internet2.voicestream.com, i can both roam with it while wifi sharing and i don't get throttled. Have not messed with internet3 but that apn is for vpn users, you get a direct ip vs. a kinda nat ip on the rest. Again, this is my experience. Your milage may vary

No. The Mac isn't an access point.
The Mac can be made to work like an access point. But, I won't bother to answer since I didn't really understand the original question.
Why would you even do that? Just use your Mac instead then. Then again, like the person above, I have no idea what you're really talking about.
i figured it out...
use the mac as a access hub
that way i can stronger wifi to use the nfl mobile app
under preferences ... sharing...turn on internet sharing..

I am glad you figured it out. But, I wish I got what you were trying to do.
I think the info would be useful. Can you make a chart? Like this...
INTERNET <ethernet> MAC <wifi> PHONE
It just works

This is NOT your wireless router, right. AND you are running a WinMo ROM. And you have tried a soft reset... RIGHT? Try adding the network again as a new network... worked for me and I have no idea why.
