This is NOT your wireless router, right. AND you are running a WinMo ROM. And you have tried a soft reset... RIGHT? Try adding the network again as a new network... worked for me and I have no idea why.

Stupid Wi Fi question

Sorry if this is too simplistic but I have just bought an XDA Exec and am trying to configure it for wi-fi. Unfortunately, when it asks for the wep key I try and enter it but it wont fit. There seems to be space for only 20 characters and the wep key is 26 characters long. Any ideas please. I have previously set up wi-fi on a Sony TH55 and an Ipaq 5550 with no problems but this XDA has beaten me!
change to a shorter wep key?
Even thought there appears to be less room than necessary, you can go right ahead and input all the numbers!
Cheers

I suppose i could do that but it means a lower level of wireless security. That seems to be a retrograde step. I thought this thing was cutting edge.

You were absolutely right. Thanks very much for the help!
Thank you for the help. The screen on this thing is excellent. I think I'm going to like it!
No probs!
How do you actually manage to not kill your wifi network? As you can read from my post, when I connect, my network crashes

Not sure why but it works perfectly at the moment. It's connected via a BT Voyager 2000 along with a desktop PC and an iBook and they are all fine.

Wifi - New Rom

hey I've searched pretty much everywhere and I can't find a solution, Got K-jam Rom 2.16.9.1, apart from not being able to find a better Rom, I can't fix my wifi issues, weak signal - struggles to connect and usually gives an error stating that it couldn't assign IP adress. ok so far I've put wifi setting to full performance and placed a registry hack, but nothing changed. assigning my own IP I haven't tried cause I don't know how to do it! anyhow I know this wifi problem is old, but perhaps there is a solution out there!
anyone come across a solution ?
Try to update the Radio ROM.
I'm having this same problem and I can't figure out how to fix it.
I'll try connecting to wifi at home and work and it'll say it's connecting but never actually connects, and then an error message will come up saying "cannot obtain a server assigned IP address"
and I've already updated my Radio to the 2.19.11 version. I also tried changing the access point name from "wap.voicestream.com" to "internet2.voicestream.com" and that didn't work either.
Please help!
ah dude if your using t-mobile, then u have to get 2.69, works best
If you have T-Mobile and you're having this problem it's because you can't use the proxy while you're connected to wifi. You have to go in to connection settings and remove the check from the use proxy checkbox.

i just checked the proxy setting and it actually wasnt checked...but im at my friends house and the wifi is actually working. i guess it just doesnt work at home and work haha.
If it works at your friends house and not at home or work, is your network protected? Did you supply it with the keys if it is?

Yeah at home my network is password protection and I do have the key, but still doesn't work :*(
The one I connected to earlier was an unsecure network, btw.
Ref: Wifi - New Rom
I have i Mate K-Jam with ROM 2.16.9.1 WWE. Post that I have upgraded Radio Rom to 2.47.11 which is available on XDA ftp site and it works well with 64 and 128 bit WEP key and over Wireless Access Points which are G or B standard.

It sounds like you may be using the wrong type of security on the network. Log in to the network with a laptop and then check the security settings. I generally use WPA-Personal with TKIP. However there are several other possibilities. My WIZA100 works fine with my g-54 set to TKIP.

I admit that I am somewhat unaware of some of the workings on the Wiz. However, I thought that the Radio Rom was only for the GSM functions. Does the ROM also include the Wireless Radio functions?

ppc and wifi-internet sharing question on pc.

i have a huge problem ..well here's the thing,i have pc without wifi but there i have a ppc(xperia x1) which has a wifi..so i want to use my ppc to scan wifi networks on my pc(connection : ppc with wifi on>usb>pc)..this is needed because i want to crack down that locked networks,i cant do that on x1 because i havent found any good wifi pen-testing tools.
i have tryed this showthread.php?t=341398 but its so hard to understand ..
pls help me,post links or something .
(sorry if it is in worng section..)
what i want to do is basiclly have wifi on the pc using the pda's built in antenna...
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
i already have that but i dont know how to make it work...
That depends on ISC compatibility. Many devices can't share from 3g data to wifi properly.

That, and this should work, but your PC should have WIFI to search.

i dont have wifi on pc -.-
what i want to do is basiclly have wifi on the pc using the pda's built in antenna... so i was wondering if it is possible to make the pda some sort of adapter for the pc to use via usb/bluetooth?(i want to search for some wifi networks through that connection,i will try to crack wep key )
Wifi to USB
Ok, i was searching for the same, but not to crack wep key ...anyway i found this. ICS Control, it has a lot of settings and looks like its made for experts but it will work for you.
I can not test it at the moment but what i get from that post, it does the job!

Yes. I guess I should point that out as that is probably what people want to do with it. It should be able to share between any set of adapters. The common ones of course would be:
Cellular to Wifi,
Cellular to Bluetooth PAN,
Cellular to USB.
But it should also work with more "interesting" combinations like:
VPN to Wifi - get wireless clients onto a VPN
Wifi to Bluetooth - allow bluetooth network devices to access a WLAN.
Wifi to USB - basically the pda acts as a wireless network card for the pc

Are you tethering by USB cable, or using a wifi-sharing app?
use this cab

The WiFi sharing app requires a password -- "WEP Key" for logon, right? Maybe change the default "1234567890" to something less guessable.
no you need ten numbers key

My point was that it could be something more-random -- less-guessable -- than the default "1234567890".
yes you can use any key number
if you can use bluetooth, it doesnt kill your battery as fast and its a more private connection otherwise like they say use a more complex password
Bluetooth tether?
I have been searching to no avail, yet I know its out there somewhere.. Is there a cab for blue tooth tethering for the tilt2 (at&t)?
I have been using the wifi router for quite some time successfully, but the new Archos 70 tablet I bought will not pic up the ad hoc wifi network? help?

I'm connecting to Wi-Fi just fine. I've connected to over 6 Wi-Fi spots with no problems. Check with another device the network first.
could you get on with your previous phone?
I know my universities network required special certificates, and getting a mobile device on required a trip to the helpdesk to specially add it.

We can't answer your questions because you didn't give any specifics about the wireless network you're trying to connect to. Is is WPA? WPA2? PEAP? Do they have their own cert CA or do they use someone Motorola already trusts in their keychain?
It's probably better that you ask your network services dept or browse their website than ask here, especially without any details.

I'm trying my best to remember what my school did (graduated almost 2 years ago), and i seem to remember them just putting in a blanket exception for iphones due to not being able to add them normally. Other phones still had to go through the same security exception stuff. Might be worth a trip to your school's helpdesk and just asking. That is what they're there for anyway.
