Scroll wheel / Jog wheel - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Does anyone know if it's possible to change so that the scroll wheel / Jog wheel only scrolls 1 hour at a time instead of one page when in calender mode.
Also my hardware arrows up and down changes day instead of going up and down the same day? The left and right hardware arrows does the same, changes day?? It was like this on my Qtek 9100 also, but I returned that one after a week. The soft keys up and down on the screen keybord goes up and down the same day??
Please help, this is really disturbing!

on my vario ii it does do that as standard.
Anyone know how to change the default view when calender is opened though? as mine goes in to month view and i want day view

jaso2005
have you tried to change that in Calender/Menu/View/Day ?

Is there no one else that even has this problems with the hardware keybord arrows?

Using slide-out keyboard for smartdialing

As I am using my Wizard open in horizontal position in my brodit car-holder I would like to know if it is possible to use the hardware keyboard (instead of the on-screen soft keypad) in the dialer screen using the smartdial options.
Also is there a hack that keeps the hardware keyboard light on when the device in on charge?
I don't see why not - just use the number row of keys (QWERTYUIOP - no need for the dot key) to type any numbers, and use the arrow keys (bottom-right) to select from the smart dialing list, and the enter/return key to select.
As for the backlight - SOL until somebody figures out where that's controlled, I'm afraid.
maybe I was not clear enough, I would like to use the whole slide-out keyboard.
ie. when i want to dial John i would just type j o h n (whereas on the on-screen keypad i would type 5 6 4 6)
When driving using the slide-out keyboard gives me more confidence when dialing (on my Himalaya the on-screen dialpad was bigger which made i better useable without a stylus)
I know what you mean. The phone apps doesnt support hard keyboard. Try clicking contacts and type on the hard keyboard the name in contacts. then dial from there. hope this helps.
well, you could still type 5646 - and it'll still go to 'John'
But I understand what you mean now - does seem silly. The contacts suggestion sounds good, but ideally maybe get one of those phone front-end replacements.
As for the buttons - they're fairly large here.. large enough for touching with fingertips anyway. Does your Wizard have some customization cab making the keys small, maybe? or am I underestimating the size of your fingers?
underestimating the size of your fingers!
Use Microsoft Voice Command instead
I tried the trial version of MS Voice Command v1.5 on my Cingular 8125 (aka Wizard) and it is just fabulous. No voice training needed. I tried the registry hack to use the BT headset to to take the voice command just couple of hours back. Need to check how well the 8KHz sampling of the BT works with the 16KHz sampling based algo in VC. You can really be hands-free with this s/w. Amazing!

Remapping D-Pad while on Phone screens

I've been searching for a while for a re-mapper/utility that will remap the d-pad to move around the numbers while on the Phone screen. Currently the D-pad does nothing while you're in the Phone dialing or call screen. It would make the Wiz into a great one-handed device if I can get the D-pad to move around the on-screen numbers pad. The center button can emulate pressing of the on-screen numbers. This way I can use one hand to enter the phone number and not having to use use my hands or the stylus while on-the-go.
I know I can slide out the keyboard but are you able to slide the KB out with 1 hand and use the number keys? I tried and it's VERY awkward and you'll have to remember to press the dot twice to enable the numbers. I'd rather not do that in a time of emergency.
Any one has tried to make this happen? Is there an app out there which will do this? This plus smartkeys/smallmenu will make the Wiz the ultimate one-handed device.
Anyone? am I the only one with a Wiz wishing for this function? I guess people like touching the screen with their hands more than I thought...
I would really be interested in something that could achieve this. I have my K-JAM in a PDAir case and being able to simply dial numbers with the keypad would be great. Rather than scroll through the contact list or opening the cover to access the keypad.
On Himalaya the D-pad had function in the dialer to get to call history and speed dial. That would help too.

I want that too!! Like was in my Magician...
hi all,
A cool Japanese Freeware called FakeCursor does this. It doesn't tab between fields, but emulates a Dpad controlled 'mouse'.
There is a program called AEKmap that allows you to remap the keyboard.
I have attached several layouts I made for the Phone and Calculator for use with AEKmap. (2 of the layouts work in AEKmap free mode, the other 6 require $20 activation to avoid NAG screen.)
Joeman
btw on my qtek9100 the keyboard is automatically in number mode while in the phone application. I don't need to push the blue dot twice.
I'd just as soon se a remapper that brought back the WM 2003SE phone functionality (right - Call Histtoey, left - Speed dial, etc.)
It's a shame M$ took that out in WM5
*One WM5 developer*
"I got an idea. Let's make our new phones LESS functional. That'll give us a leg up on the competition."
*Everyone else there*
"BRILLIANT!!!"
Did anyone create an aek file for mapping the alfa keys of the hardware k/b to the phonepad values.
ie: pressing a, b or c generates the code that is recognized by smartdialer (and interpreted as a, b or c respectively)
This way we can use the h/w keyboard letter-keys in the smartdialer!
This is especially handy when youre using the Wizard in your car in the landscape brodit holder (on-screen 'keys' are simply too small to be used safely)
it would be very cool.
wonder if Water can extend SmartyKeys for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060

Very quick question about Texting via Keyboard

On my XDA Mini S, when I was texting via the keyboard, after I had entered the name in the "To" field, I could just use the tab button to skip to the main message body.
This doesn't seem to work on my Vario II and I just wondered if there was a way, via the keyboard, of skipping to the message body (I have tried tab, enter, arrow keys etc..).
I know it is a really small thing but I just find it annoying when texting, if I am using the keyboard, to have to use the touch screen to skip fields.
Thanks
On my TyTN, pressing the down arrow key does exactly what you want. You may have more luck (read: get more useful answers) if you post your question again in the XDA Mini S forum
Cheers
Daniel
there is an easy way to jump between fields just use the scroll wheel
this does exactly what you want
JEREMY
Thanks guys. I just tried the scroll wheel whilst composing a new text and all it does on my Vario II (Tytn) is scroll the page down but it doesn't actually move the cursor, it just leaves it in the "To" field so if I start to type, I am still in that field. That is the same as what happens when I use the down arrow key
If it works on yours though then perhaps I have inadvertently changes some settings somewhere, god knows where though because I can't find any settings that look like they would make a difference to this.
You're not the only one with this....I just noticed it this morning...can't switch fields from the To bit to the message box...it's annoying.
Field switching
Wonder if this just applies to certain TyTn brands (ROMs)- My HTC TyTn switches field with Hard and Soft keyboard using Tab, Scroll and Down Arrow. Also looked for any settings that might change this behaviour - namely keyboard in Settings but could not in my case stop above keys from moving cursor to next field.
Mike
Oh well, not to worry, like I said, it is only a little thing but just a little annoying.
The scroll wheel & up and down arrows do skip fields in other instances, just not when composing a new text message.
I am sure I can learn to cope
might be a tmobile thing. I have the voda version and the tab button does what you need.
is it to do with the screen input method. I get some funny quirks from the keyboard if the screen input is set to anything but the soft keyboard
Yeh, I think you have probably hit the nail on the head in that it is probably a ROM thing.
Hopefully when there is an updated T-Mobile ROM they will change it (fingers crossed )
I've got a tmobile vario 2 and the scroll wheel works fine to move between fields in text message mode

How strange. My scroll wheel works fine if I am looking at messages and want to move from one to the next but all it does when I am composing a text is operate the righthand scroll bar ... it leaves the cursor in the exact same place.
My ROM is 1.21.110.3, is yours the same? (as far as I know there is only one UK T-Mobile Rom)
yeah I got the same rom
I can also switch fields when texting by using the tab button just checked

Damn, want to swap phones (only kidding)
I might try a hard reset to see if that sorts it out but I am not sure I am annoyed enough by it yet to go to that extreme as it would involve a lot of backing up and reinstalling
I may have the solution, those of you having problems with the tab button while in text messaging have you at some point changed the behavour of the directional pad for use while in internet explorer? On my Vario II i changed mine and i had exactly the same problem as you guys, i changed it back and it was sorted, tab button worked fine. Check the below registry field. Hope this helps!
to re-enable hyperlink/form field navigation:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\4-Way Nav = 1 (DWORD decimal)

Same here, the wheel, tab and arrow keys changed fields for me before until I changed the way PIE scrolls in the registry.

Fantastic, problem solved ... thanks so much Padlad
Over the past few weeks I have installed trials for loads of different PPC software, a couple of which related to PIE tweaks so I can only guess that it must have been one of these that changed the registry setting. Thanks again
whooops yeah I think I posted that tweak up here as well in someone elses thread
doh!
so now that pie is back to scrolling between links...which is even more annoying...anyone know how to change the wheel behaviour to scroll however many lines you want it to. it could hopefully just be a reg hack or something.
thanks
vario2
I have got a vario 2 and I can press tab to do it on the keyboardor the down arrowor the scroll wheel - sorry

keyboard bug

I've found a bug in the HTC Qwerty keyboard. When used in landscape orientation, the comma and full stop (period), i.e. ',' and '.' are juxtaposed. tapping comma gives a full stop and vice versa. This only happens in landscape mode.
Does anyone else have this defect?
Yeah noticed this too today, thought got used to it in a couple minutes. What annoys me mostly is the waste of important space in the keyboard. Why the hell there have to be those stubid arrow buttons? Imho totally useless and enter key could be bigger.
looks like a localization bug; works fine with the german version.
The arrow buttons are quite useful; try to edit a url or text entry in opera, how would you do that without?
Yup, same here, WWE version.
Yes it's a localization problem, the Spanish version works fine.

EzInput 2 Compact QWERTY Keyboard issue/query

I have a Diamond with BsB6.5Q ROM.
Hi there, don't know if this is a ROM issue or a WM6.5 issue. I use the Compact QWERTY that is supplied in this ROM - I prefer to use the "phone keypad" style of keyboard. As I do 95% of my texts in the native Welsh language, I keep T9 switched off (there is no such feature in Welsh). However, when I write a text message in Welsh sometimes the spacebar won't work - it simply won't let me put a space there - I have to press 'enter' then 'backspace' to remove the restriction. This is not a screen sensitivity issue, because the 'shadow' appears above the spacebar to signify that it has been pressed. This problem doesn't arise when writing English texts, so I'm assuming that the problem occurs because the phone is trying to be clever and trying to predict that there shouldn't be a space after a certain letter.
I've looked through the settings and I can't find anything to switch this off. Any ideas?
Also, when writing, I would really like to be able to move the cursor backwards and forwards through the text, say if I want to correct an earlier error. Having to press the desired location with my finger is not good enough, because I need three or four attempts to get it right due to being the owner of a large thumb. I was then thinking about the Diamond's scroll wheel - this would be ideal for the job. Is there any way use that to scroll, i.e. anti-clockwise to move cursor to the left, clockwise to move right?
Thanks
Right, please ignore my last paragraph above - I completely forgot about the up/down/left/right buttons around the scroll wheel. The Left/Right buttons do exactly what I want.
Now, all I want is a fix for my keyboard problem (1st paragraph). It only happens for some words, and when it happens I cannot type any of the punctuation characters - I can only continue typing letters. Also when this happens the word (or most of it) is underlined. I don't understand why the word that's currently being typed would need to be underlined. It seems like parts of T9 is still on, even in ABC mode.
Any ideas?
