Size of the unit compared to other devices - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi I'm thinking of buying an XDA Exec but I was wondering about it's size. Could anyone post some images of size comparison with other phones/PDA's?
I currently have an Nokia 6680, K750i and a HX4700..
Also just reading around there seems to be quite a lot of issues with the battery life, typically how long does it last for? Can it be improved via ROM updates?
Thanks

Although I don't think it's that much bigger than others (I had an alpine before) it does feel bigger because it has no rounded edges and is thicker due to the keyboard. It is much heavier than an alpine.
For pictures you can look up a review on google, I can't remember the site I saw it on.

Have you tried going down to a phone store and asking to have a look at one?

No one sells it near by

Before I got mine, I was reading about how big it is, how poor the battery life is, but for me the experience has been a good one.
Firstly, size wise, it's quite neat. I have an old pocket pc HP Jornada, and it's about the same size, but slightly thicker. It's a little on the heavy side, but nothing extreme and for the functionality, it has been very much worth it for me.
Battery life, I get around 5 hours continous usage average, when connected the phone network or WIFI (I always stay connected whether at home or away) and do various tasks, including browsing, music/video streaming, terminal services, VNC and such (although I'm not a game player), with the sound on. I charge it up when I get home, or when I get back to my laptop (charge over USB) and I've never had it run out on me, so I'm pretty happy with it. However, I don't have too much experience in the mobile market, so I'm not used to anything else.
Hope this helps

Here is a comparison shot with a Playstation Portable and a T-Mobile SDA which is pretty much standard size Smartphone. Hope this helps!

Here it is compared to a few other devices. Left to right: Audiovox SMT 5600 (HTC Typhoon), Palm Treo 650, Qtek 9000 (HTC Universal), Palm LifeDrive, Dell Axim X3i, Palm Tungsten E.

Thanks that was really useful!, I'm going to bit the bullet and order one now... at the end of the day every phone has it's weakness and after spending days reading review etc i think I'll give this a try..

You'll never look back. But if you do, it'll only be to stick two fingers up at the trans-dimensional quantum version of you that chose the Nokia N73.

Which phone to replace my Universal

I have loved this phone but it is getting too tired and I need something up to date with more power and storage. Alas HTC don't seem to be doing anything comparable.
The latest Athena is too big for me and anyway no UK network seem to be providing it?
The Kaiser seems neat but the screen is too small, any thoughts anyone?
Jon
I have a Jasjar too but I dont think there is any replacement for it yet. Its a powerhouse truely meant for corporate people or the people who love to experiment.
Stick with JasJar (Uni, O2 Exec etc), give it a ROM upgrade, new body if you feel it looks too rough and enjoy. I know I am sticking with mine, especially considering I fully assembled it from parts, so now it's my baby in more ways than one
I hawe set the same question on another forum.
And the answer was the same.
No one has the will or space to carry Shift or Athena they are just too big.
Uni is the biggest thing i can wear in my pants expect my JoyStick offcourse.
I heard today that Htc is planning to release 10new devices this year so we can only hope there will be something like Universal Enchanced like they done whit Advantage.

I'm now using a T-mobile Vario III (Kaiser) as a replacement for my Exec and I'm very pleased with it. Yes the screen is smaller but it's improved clarity along with the general ease of use of the device means it's not too much of a disadvantage for me.
I'm still keeping my Exec though, it makes an excellent satnav and micro-laptop.
The only phone that can match the power and specs of the HTC Advantage X7510 & Athena as of now is the Samsung Omnia: http://samsungomnia.com/
You can check youtube for the videos and see how fast this baby works. Not to mention it supports DIVX and XVID movies out of the box, with a 5MP camera.
...
Since Samsung is contracted to make a phone that is quite similar to another phone the resemblance is uncanny isn't it?
Omnia have a latest PXA320 processor which default speed is up to 800 MHz, a 256 KB L2 cache, and a 32-bit DDR memory interface, that is more powerful with comparation of qualcomm bulls***s

The Sony Xperia is a solid, well designed phone, but one thing I noticed from watching all the videos of the demo use of the Xperia in youtube, IT IS REALLY VERY SLOW. So unless they can do something with the speed before it's release, they can't convince me to buy this phone.
wow...
its seem we got another friends from sony ericsson that hv window mobile as its os...
Hi - there's another discussion about this going on that's worth a read:

i-mate JASJAM on eBay for AU $125

Hey all I just nabbed an i-mate JASJAM (Hermes) on eBay for AU $120 ($5.50 postage) to go along with/replace my Magician, the only defect is a non-functioning earpiece speaker, which I can most likely fix easily.
I've been missing a hardware keyboard for a pretty long time, I was considering modding my Magician to have a slide out QWERTY thumbboard.
I've had my Magician for a year or 2, I love it, bought a pink housing for it and upgraded it to Cotulla's WM6.1 and it's like a new phone It was originally given to me by my ex-girlfriend's mum when she got a new phone. She had never used it for anything but calls and txt, which I was appaled at lol
So did I get a good deal?
You didn't get a bargain, but as long as you can repair that ear piece you got a good price.
I paid $100 +postage 6 months ago for a JasJam via ebay, but I was picky and let about 20 go for a higher price before I finally got one.
This is my 2nd JasJam - first is still mine and had a white screen issue which I've fixed, this 2nd is now my wife's and is in far better condition than my 2.5 year old JasJam.
I love the keyboard and Windows Mobile too, so mine gets used heavily
Cheers + welcome!
G.
Earpiece speaker should not be a problem. Most often it's just the spring contacts not touching the board or a bit of oxidisation on the contacts. Just sometimes the speaker is faulty, in which case there is a motorola one that fits almost perfectly and is easier to find than the original. (pretty cheap too)
As for it being a bargain - well count yourself lucky if it's one that has no alignment and white screen problems, they are awkward if not impossible in some cases to deal with.
Mike
Well at least I didn't get ripped off like I would have been if I got one of the $200+ ones
@mikechannon Should be an easy task, had my Magician apart countless times to try out mods, change housings, tighten the stylus holder etc.
@Ogier I love WinMo too, it's so useful I can't stand using a phone with a closed FW for too long. It just annoys me not having a decent file manager etc.

One thing thing I like about my G1 (besides everything)

I read some people saying they don't like it's "clunky" look or that it's simply not as sleek as the iphone. Well I don't think it's really that bad and see it as a disguise from thieves. Who wants to steal a phone that doesn't look that sleek?
Anyways...I have very little complaints about my phone because it has everything I need in a single device....finally!
AMEN!
I used to carry around my old phone AND an iPod Touch, but I traded my iPod on craigslist for a G1 and I couldn't be happier.
Unlike a lot of people I enjoy Android much more than mobile OSX because of the more hands on and in depth modding. On the iPod all you needed to do was download a package and BAM there it was, new feature.
I also like the fact that the G1 is unique, ugly but unique. It seems like half the world's population owns an iPhone.
And yet there are a hundred themes and out home replacement apps that try and replicate the iPhone look. Why the infatuation? The iphone is pretty inferior if you ask me. The it took the second iteration to support 3G. And now the third supports MMS, video, and copy paste. Then they have the balls to tout these features as new and cutting edge. My razr had 3G when iPhone one came out. Come on apple. This sums it up pretty well I think.

I think it's easy for us to forget that Apple's in the fashion industry.
I don't hate the iphone but I do find it funny how everyon brags about it. Up until now I wasn't able to find something that beats. In most every way. I do wish my phone had a regular headphone jack simply so I could charge it AND plug my headphones in but I think there is a workaround with an adapter. Other than that I don't think I could be happier
I don't like the feel of iphonies... they're the wrong shape and dont fit in your hand right. Too wide makes it difficult to reach parts of the screen with your thumb when holding it in one hand.

Not sure what I think
EDIT: posted in wrong forum *sigh* Mods feel free to do what you wish
I think it is an underpowered netbook.
Looks ok but I think I will stick to my netbook.
I will stick with pure Google experience tablet ... The one without customization ... The one that will receive update directly ... The one that is BLESSED by Google!
I don't know which one, probably the XOOM ... The Motorola Android tablet.
I really can't understand the success of tablets. I see their potential as a casual browsing device, but they fill a hole between phones and computers which wasn't all that gaping. They are completely a luxury object, without the nature of practicality and necessity which phones and traditional computers have, and at the overblown price some are sold at, its a wonder they shift so many units.
But the weirdest thing, I think, is rear facing cameras on tablets. I mean, who wants to whip out a device the size of a book or larger to take a photo? And yet it seems to go unquestioned, even celebrated.

Tablet is nice ... more portable compare to laptop ... and bigger screen compare to mobile phone.
I need one and I need one now
Because I can see me using it in the couch ... bed ... sofa ... etc.
And yes, I don't need rear camera .... and give me WIFI only ...
No wifi only = no deal ...

yeah I was surprised too. Actually I was expecting something worse due to the age of the phone, the fact that I never used the "battery optimization option" and my Z5C is often charged with almost full battery (using it in the car as alerter for speed cameras/traffic jams <- USB connected). Maybe the result is influenced by the fact that I lost the original power supply early, since then I am using the one from my old S4 mini with less output (I think 1.0A).
Last factory rest was when Android 7.0 was rolled out in Germany (by Sony - without provider branding). I checked it for the first time, so I can't say which value was shown when my phone was new , but I am looking forward to see results from other users.
2672000 here.
In use since Jan 2016 - 1 year 7 Months .
I'm one of those who become nervous when getting near 50% so it frequently hangs on the wire - several times a day, actually.
I was worrying about ruining my battery by this treatment, due to reading a lot about having to 'train' your battery by sucking it down to 15-20% at times. So this is all crap information, obviuosly.
Thank you for posting this code, btw.
Useful information!
