Hi guys,
I've been playing with PIToday for a couple of days now but I noticed one thing: My bluetooth icon on the Today screen disappeard after using PIToday. The only way to get it back for me is unchecking PIToday and soft reset. This is a bummer!
I've been checking some sites for solutions but could only find the solution mentioned above and one solutions for a 3870. This was putting a shortcut to the bluetooth icon in the startup folder. In the case of a MDA II, there is no such shortcut possible. I checked the registry and Windows directory but the is no .exe file which will start the bluetooth icon. Only .dll. But I don't know where to point it to. :?:
Any other suggestions? Because I would like to buy PIToday but I still want to access my bluetooth from the Today screen.

Even though I am a huge fan of Pocket Informant, i experienced a lot of issues with the PI today plug in and stopped using it. It may be incompatability with other software I also have installed but as well as the missing BT icon it also caused instability (lock ups) and the occassional auto soft reset.
In regard to the missing BT icon though PI today is not the only culprit. Users of Pocket Breeze from SBSH Mobile software have reported the same issue. Only way to restore it is unselect the today plug in and soft reset.

Hi Ednap,
Somebody suggested a sort of sulution for me: Using Zenphone. In Zenphone there is an option to turn bluetooth on and off in a profile. And it seems to work!
It is not the solutions but a least it is workable.

hi,
some kind of solution
get the tool "No Plugins today" (h**p://www.ictinus.com/NoPluginsToday/)
install it (of coz)
insert into your registry a new string like this
HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\init\LaunchXX where XX is the highest number of the Launch under INIT (I use "Launch90")
enter as the stringvalue the path to the tool e.g. "\Storage\NoToday\NoPluginsToday.exe" or whereever you have installed the tool
insert a link under \Windows\startup or \windows\autostart (depends of the language) and point it again to this tool. Rename the Link in such way, that it will run last (eg. "XXXNoToday")
ok, thats all, reset your device, and enjoy your Bluetooth icon
It is not a failure by any of the Today-Plugins, which make the icon vanish, it's just a timeout of the btdll, caused by Plugins, which need too much time to initialize itself, so the icon just nor appear.
What does this thing?
after reset it removes the todayscreens, the bluetooth icon appears, and after that the notoday-tool switches the plugins on again.
you need some more time (3-4 secs) after the reset, but, who cares, you got the icon back

Nice work, IvkovicD!
I'll give it a try and I'll post this solution also at the PIToday forum. I'm sure this solutions is a great help for Deje the maker of the program.
B.t.w I tried SnoopSoft Dash Today Advanced today to see if I like it. It is not bad. A bit slow but guess what happens?
My headset profile is now gone! First I thought it was because I had too many Todayplugins but after removing a few and soft resetting it still wouldn't come back. Any suggestions for this one?
Thanks,
Wouter
To create a shortcut to Bluetooth copy the following into a shortcut file (text file with lnk extension i.e. Bluetooth.lnk):
34#\windows\ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,23
and copy it across to your PPC
My headset profile is now gone!

Might it be that your profile is just gone from the Today screen? Check Settings>Personal Tab>Today>Items Tab and see if Profile is checked.
Hi Mark,
No. The headset profile was not there anymore in the list. I contacted Chris Scott, who makes DashToday and the only solution he had for now, was to uninstall the program.
Not realy a good option in my opinion.... Especialy because I just bought the program because there is no trial avaliable.
For your other solution:
I want to make sure that I realy understand. You want me to make a textfile and name it i.e Bluetooth.lnk. In this file there should be the line:
34#\windows\ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,23
Then copy this file to my PPC and presumably to the startup directory?
Just want to make sure.
Thanks,
Wouter

Copy it to the Start Menu folder. It won't bring back your bluetooth icon back but you will be able to access the settings from the start menu.
Thanks,
I give it a try later.

Hi,
I know this effect. I've have this "vanishing", too, if I install too much today- plug ins. Just grab your favourite registryeditor and delete some build-in today-registry entries for today items, e.g. original-task, or some of the other build in ones. If you need it (I don't believe that , make a backup, but really, do you need them?)
reset your device, the missing plugs should appear again...
Sometimes, the OS just do not display some today-plugins, if there are too much entries into registry, even, if you do not activate them...maybe at MS nobody thought that someone needs more then 5 todayplugs at once...
just joking

Hi Dejan,
Sounds like an interesting solution. Want to give it a try but I can't find the path to the right regkeys. :?: Do you know were those keys are to be found?
Wouter
Hi Dejan,
I found the reg keys. (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today) and deleted the Task, Calendar and Owner Info keys. Then I did a soft reset but my Bluetooth icon didn't reappear.
Too bad.
Did it work for you?

Hello,
I have an XDA2i and I need to remove the O2 ative user interface (UI). Anyway I can disable it in order to be able to remove it?
Thank you.

erm
1) How does this constitute news?
2) Search the forums!

Go to add/remove programs and check if you see an O2 active installation. if there is then uninstall it. But if you hard reset your device then it will install again so you need to uninstall it.
master g.
master_guapo,
I tried to do that but the program (Active UI) is always running in the background so the uninstall is always unsuccessful. Anyway I can stop it from running and then uninstall it from the "remove programs"?
Thanks,
They way I got rid of it was by:
1) Remove the "connections" shortcut in the windows/startup folder. You don't need that icon in the tray anyway.
2) Soft reset
4) Unistall - which will fail, but it gets rid of some bits
5) From your PC, using activesync go into the windows folder and delete everything you can in the "Mobile Solutions" folder. (It's under windows)
6) Soft reset. You're clean.
O2 seems to have been trying to make it more difficult to remove it this time, but once you get it cleared out the unit operates a lot faster on the today screen. The XdaIIi is in my experience really what the XDA II should have been. The Wifi connectivity is brilliant.
The reason why the installation fails is because the Today items are still active, go into settings & Today, and remove ticks from the o2 items including the battery monitor.
You may need to do a soft reset afterwards, but then you should be able to use the remove programs item.
How do i get o2 active ON my xda?!!!
Ah, but do you know where I can get a copy of the o2 active cab to put back on my xda?
Thanks guys,
I was able to remove by doing the following:
1) Remove "Windows/startup/connection.exe
2) Remove" Windows/fonts/xpdr_02...
3) soft reset
4) use the uninstall from the setting to uninstall the O2 Active UI...
5) Soft reset and there you are.
This will show the clock on the top right corner and make the XDAIIi faster at startup and more stable overall as I noticed.
Thanks,
Having logged a call with o2 regarding GPRS problems, they emailed me with a way to remove the customisation, its so easy. Carry out a hard reset and select the the corporate install option, all customisation is removed, you do have to configure the GPRS settings manually.
Removal of O2 Active software..
I was really sceptical when I read in these foruns that the lockups on my XDAIIs were down to O2 software. I was gettign 2-3 lockups a day and especially if I was using TOM TOM navigator 3, it would run fine if left alone, but if I wanted to do somewthign such as update traffic info any time after 30 mins, it would freeze, the I would have to do a soft reset. Quite awkward when driving...
I had reloaded tom tom twice already (after already doing a hard reset) and didn't want to do it again.. so I tried the removal instructions...
To say I was looking at taking the unit back to O2 for a repalcement... now I'm over the moon as it is very stable.
hi
is there an ext rom unlocker for xda2i ...the one from pda2k doesnt work
thanks
XDA11
Can these instructions be applied to the above as well
Can anyone tell me the settings for 02 GPRS after doing a corporate install?
Also, am I able to install certain parts of 02 active, sucha s the battery meter?
I'd also really like to get rid of the Active UI thing but I like some of it's features. I would like to see the clock return to the top right and the big buggy o2 symbol removed. I'm using Magic Button and the o2 symbol really gets in the way.
Thanks guys!
Great to have the clock back where God meant it to be!
Post moved to Blue Angel forum
This is an Alpine not a Blue Angel!
Ha ha ha, my bad

if you hard reset your phone and let it reinstall all the stuff
then when the O2 selection thing comes up select CORPORATE and enter the code 0506 (if memory servers correctly
this will then skip all the 02 cusrtomisation stuff...
i did this earlier thismorning and my god its SOOO much nicer to use and crashes less often!
before i just removed it manauylly but it kept crashing n stuff afterwards
O2 active? Zapped it!
Yee Hah!
Got rid of that nasty active stuff! Using a combination of Planet, a18041967 & abohsali's instructions & no need to do a hard re-set. You do also have to untick the clockinfo in startup items by the way! Thanks again guys! Top Banana!!!!!
Anyone else experiencing notification queue dups on their JasJar? I'm getting this on an AppRunAfterRestore event. At first I blamed Pocket Informant (sorry Alek...), but I see that after a hard reset they still occur. I have installed the following apps, but cos this does not happen immediately, I have not yet figured out the culprit All latest versions):
- PocketPlus
- MobiPocket reader
- spb weather (will uninstall cos not updating)
- AeUptime
- GPRS monitor
- eWallet
- Pocket mechanic
- Total commander
- no skype, no eTrust AV
I'm keep to find a proggie I can chron to run at midnight that will clean the queue without manual intervention. Anything out there?
sddaemon is a service of the voice dial app. Look in your startup folder and the exe should be there. You can try moving it to another folder and see if it has any impact on voicedialling (my guess is it will). You can check Scarybear's website http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ for two freeware apps; one will allow you to clear duplicate notifications manually and the other will go into your startup folder and will clear notifications on every soft reset. Hope that helps
Edit: the startup app may not get the sddaemon notifications, but give it a try and see what it does.
Thanks for that efjay - didn;t know what sddeamon was for.
Scarybear; I'm afraid it doesn't cover this dup:
Note, this startup program will only remove these events: "SSTimeChange" and "conmgr.exe", and "IA_Caller_ID.exe" (with an event type of "AppRunAfterRestore").

Scarybear; I only tried the manual one and it did not clear the queue, so I presumed the auto one would also not work in WM5. WIll try it now.

Dont forget to go to the settings and check the option to remove duplicate events. I tried it on my BA with WM5 and it cleared all duplicates i had.

I have Ewallet in common. I heard more about it but cannot find it.
Huib
eWallet is a ***** - not nearly as compatible as ppl think. If ur JJ won't turn on, it's almost definitely an eWallet notification set to run on wake-up. EVERY time I run eWallet I go to my queue and kill the app it adds. Main issue is that it's path is to the SD card, and card is not readable in those first few microseconds of wake up, so device cannot get past that point.
If u have this problem, soft reset, go to notificaiton queue, and find \storage...\program files\eWallet\.... - kill the little bugger!

I remove my duplicates with Pocket Mechanic. And..., how now brown cow... after soft reset they are all back... (nope, there are even two or three more)

Just remove sddaemon.lnk from \windows\startup\
then soft reset. it is ok
Hi,
I have a pay-as-you-go (AKA chav-mobile) sim which I use in the Wizard that I unlocked myself. I hard-reset and chose corporate to remove the O2 today screen additions and have uninstalled the O2 ActiveUI app (it says it can't be removed fully but has been removed from my apps list)
However, I have an annoying O2 logo in my title bar that I cannot get rid of. Friends of mine with the same phone but on O2 contracts do not have this logo. Can I get rid of it?
1- Don't use the corporate setup as it is harde to deal with.
2- The O2 GUI is a pain in the arse to remove, follow these steps:
Go to:
Windows\Mobile Solutions
Cut the whole folder to the root directory
Uninstall O2 GUI v4.0
Delete the folder now located in the root directory
Soft reset the phone
Thanks for the advice, I'll hard-reset again and not use corporate but I had two other options, home user and something else, should I just go with home and then complete the above?

My phone has no o2 referneces at all. Fair enough its on a contract, but here's how I did it. Just remember that when you put a number into the Wizard, it DOES NOT get saved to the sim, so write them down.
1. Hard reset = Hold Comm button AND Voice button while doing a reset.
2. Keep them held, a message asking to confirm will appear.
3. Press the Green phone button (Send).
The device will now wipe EVERYTHING and start fresh.
4. Perform the alignment.
5. Do the silly cut 'n' paste
IMPORTANT BIT
The last screen in this sequence says "Tap the screen to start using your device". Get ready with the stylus here.
When you tap the screen, it starts. Then a box appears with "Restarting in 3 seconds", or something similar.
PRESS THE RESET BUTTON AS SOON AS YOU SEE THIS BOX
This stops the phone installing any of the o2 extended rom stuff, and therefore you do not need to choose between corporate or any other setup. Its just a plain vanilla WM5 PDA, with phone.
Job Done, Sit back and re-install all your software.
ive got tomtom 5 installed without the installation disks, the main prgrams on the memory card but am i right in thinking the program must have places in the main memory too?

Yes, Funnily enough I have just read a different thread on exactly the same topic. Unless you have the cab files in the 2577 folder of your card, I am unsure as to what you could do.
do you know the path to that cab fold? I cant seem to find it on my card?

Hi finally got round to trying this and Jerry-S's advice worked perfectly so cheers!
Has anyone removed these from the programme? I would love to keep my X1 as clean as possible, and i am just wondering would anything happen if i remove these programme since i will not be using them at all.
YES, u can no problem.
Yep no problem.
When I did it through remove programs the handango left some file or reg entry behind though, and everytime I started the device it would give a warning.
I used a reg editor to delete a single reference in the registry and a few files in program files I believe and now handango is truly gone

ive tried removing that stupid handangoinhand twice and both times after soft reset i get a warning too. had to hard reset twice bcos of this.
what reg editor did u use? so now u dont get that warning anymore?
I did so but everytime I turn on the x1 the nagging screen saying something like this "one of the component of the Handango in hand is missing, try install it again..,"
well, just press ok and it will go away
it may be good to leave the program in the x1
you need to manualy remove it from the start up folder to get rid of the notification of missing file

there was no need to hard reset. simply delete handango component from-
windows/stratup.
You should not have had to do a hard reset … after uninstalling the handango applications using the add/remove programs control panel, using File Explorer go into /windows/startup items and delete the handango shortcut. What is happening is the shortcut which executes on start up doesn't find the app and registers the error.
Haven't worked out how to delete the Getting Started app yet??
tnx guys. will try that. still fairly new to ppc.
though i would hv figured this out myself if i had this problem on my pc. lol.
hmm, i just removed this program and after soft reset i got no warnings.. Did not remove anything from startup folder either.
Swedish phone, might be the difference?
.. im not saying that this is NOT a good thing
Thanks for the tips guys, got the Handago out in seconds. Still, any idea on how to remove "getting started", msn and all that other junk?
