Prophet images on the MS Emulator - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Is it possible to use a prophet imate (or imate jamin) on the Microsoft Windows Mobile emulator.
Ideally using an actual dump from my device or extracted from the latest JAMin rom from clubimate?
Step by step would be nice or just some simple pointers, I could figure out the rest.
Thanks

WM 2003 on XDA, Easy as 123...

For all the UK xda 1 users out there, here is a very simple way to upgrade your rom to wm 2003. This is using the siemens SX56 rom from
http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...addon_SX56POCKETPCPHONE_12444_5856_DA,00.html
1. Download xdatools from this site.
2. Download the siemens rom from the above link
3. Backup your contacts/calender
4. Remove your SD card ( I managed to kill mine playing with XDAtools )
5. Extract the siemens stuff ( c:\program files\SX56 upgrade utility )
6. Browse to the above folder and double clik the NK.nbf file.
7. XDAtools will pick it up and take you through the upgrade.
Two hardware resets and you have wm 2003 on your XDA.
My radio stack is 4.21 upgraded from the o2.co.uk site. I am also with Vodafone. It all seems to work perfectly. Hope this was the way to do it though.
NOTE : DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK - o2 UK WILL NOT SUPPORT THIS !
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY !
So two weeks later and whats the prgress?
felt like having some fun with one that was laying around the office.
Not impressed with the device so far I had to reset it the other day no reason and it completely emptied itself of data in the meeting (nice!)
does the 2003 upgrade remember anything more that the 2002 version?

T-Mobile MDA compact with PocketPC platform can't run .exe

This is my first post and I have looked around but it seems no one has the same problem with me or I could miss something.
I just got a MDA compact from T-Mobile UK. I wanted to install some applications but I can only use .CAB files. When I tried to execute a .exe file it says "'file_name' is not a valid Pocket PC application". After that I found out my MDA using Pocket PC platform.
Question is how I can use those .exe files. Would upgrading ROM help?
If they are the correct .exe programs for Pocket PC 2003 SE then I believe they can be installed via ActiveSync.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Click to collapse
By far the most .exe files you can download from the Internet for a PocketPC are actually installers that need to be run on your desktop PC, not on the PocketPC itself. Make sure your PocketPC is connected to your PC and ActiveSync is running, then try starting these .exe on your PC.
If your desktop machine is a Mac or any other non-Windows PC, you are out of luck basically - then you need to ask someone with a Windows PC to run these .exe for you, grab the extracted .cab from some temporary directory, and give those to you.
Cheers
Daniel
Just for the sake of completeness, you cannot install Smartphone software on a Pocket PC, despite the similarly-named OS
misunderstanding
so far that I know, exe can only be executed on the desktop pc. while cab files u can executed it in ur pocket pc.
Omg...I'm so dumb...
Thanks a bunch guys

which one depend on which one you pref
One thing to note, if you are happy with the performance of the cell phone side of things, don't upgrade the radio stack rom (it's a seperate rom to the os images, also called program B). It's more trouble that it is worth

restore xbackup-file from qtek s100 to s200

hello guys.
i have a little problem so i try this way because i didn't find any way to solve the problem myself.
i had a qtek s100 with xbackup and windows mobile 2003. the device now is smashed so i get a new one (a qtek s200) running windows mobile 5 without xbackup.
this things i did try in the past:
- activesync backup but this one it is about 6 months old and not useful for me
- getting a xbackup.exe and try to run with windows mobile 5 - didn't work because of incompatibility
one thing to say: i used the xbackup.exe from this file:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_1_4x/Cabs/Patch/O2Asia_patch_140921.sa.CAB
so it could be possible that the asian xbackup doesn't work right?
i get this errormessage when running xbackup on windows mobile 5:
"unknown backup information error"
the whole xbackup language appears in english
- try to run many pocketpc roms like pocketpc 2003 (in description of microsoft downloadpage it was named windows mobile 2003), smartphone 2003 and some other roms with the microsoft emulator included in embedded visual c++ and some sdk's. the file could just be opened with the windows mobile rom for smartphone (should be windows mobile 5?) but the program crash with the error message i wrote above..
i didn't find an emulator-rom wich is exactly the operating system like from qtek s100. it could be interesting for very much people to find the right rom that is working to restore xbackup's. could be an easier way to help someone with backup problems like me.
please help me because i really need my contacts and if possible but not really importent my sms-messages.
i hope someone can find the right rom-image for the microsoft emulator.
hope someone can help me (and many other people)
thanks!
Assuming the program Xbackup would work in WM5, you can't or must not restore a WM2003 backup file to a device running WM5.

Test WM6 applications in Athena before upgrading the ROM

There is a 100% legal way to test how will perform a given application created for WM5 or previous releases into WM6 without the need of upgrading the Athena ROM.
I needed this to test a push-mail application developed for WM5. My idea is changing my X7500 to WM6 if and only if the push-mail application I'm considering works on WM6. Since taking the X7500 back to WM5 once you changed it to WM6 looks impossible I look for a solution to test before take the decision.
So... I found that WM6 emulator from Microsoft is free and freely available and emulator images are free too and freely available at microsoft.com
You will need:
Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0, which is the emulator itself. This program does nothing without the emulator images but you need the program, off course. Here is the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...53-f231-4a64-a648-fea5e7061303&DisplayLang=en
Then you need the emulator images... let's call them ROMs if you want... but they call'em emulator images.
Windows Mobile 6 Localized Emulator Images, just donwload the ones in your language. I suggest using the profesional ones since in that set there is one called VGA Professional that match the features of our X7500. Here is the link to all languages:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a8-1dd7-426f-a913-4f370a65a582&DisplayLang=en
Just donwload and install the Device Emulator 2.0 (the first link I mention) and once installed donwload and install the profesional emulator images in your language.
Find the entry VGA Profesional in your Start menu in Windows XP and just install the application you want to test in your emulator.
Simple.
Best Regards,
mahjong
