Hi,
This is my first post on this forum.
I have my Qtek 2020 since 2 weeks now and have one problem I can't get solved.
My microphone seems to be set really silent. When I call people they always complain they can hardly hear me.
I have already searched the forum and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8496&highlight=microphone+gain
But when I try to launch ctlpnl.exe nothing happens.
I have also tried changing the registry value for HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\AdvancedCPL\InputGain.
Default value is 60, I have tried changing it to 90 and 120 but this didn't seem to solve anything.
Does anyone know how to change this or know of an application to do this?
All help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I've bought used qtek 9100. microphone sensitivity level in phone mode was good enough.
Then I did Hard reset and my friends starts complaining that they are almost can not hear me...
I've tried AGC enabled and disabled, but without success.
there are some registry keys like "INTERNAL_RECORDING_GAIN" and "EXTERNAL_RECORDING_GAIN" in
"HTLM/Software/HTC/AUDIOGAIN"
Now I have
"INTERNAL_RECORDING_GAIN" = 06
"EXTERNAL_RECORDING_GAIN" = 16
Could someone post your values please?
Maybe you know any third party tools that I can use in order to increase microphone sensitivity....
same values on my K-Jam. Is it hardware problem on your phone?

It was fine before hard reboot...
Same with Jasjar
I had the same problem with my Jasjar, my problem was with the BT Headset and also with the microphone directly on the phone.
I sent my Jasjar to warranty, I will tell you if it gets fixed when it returns from them.
feels better after a couple of hard resets...... it is so strange..

i have *exactly* the same problem with my k-jam, however i didn't hard-reset device yet. my friends are complaining very much. i've also checked the problem by myself - i received a call made by my k-jam and voice was tragedy, very quiet and noisy. connecting headset to wizard makes voice sound better but that's not the point to carry mobile with headset all the time! at first glance i thought it could be hardware problem, but if you're saying that before hard-reset microphone quality was fine, then probably it's software-related issue...

and what about registry keys which you mentioned above? values are the same?
Yes, registry values remains the same after hard reset.
But microphone sensitivity is definitely better now.
Later there was two or three hard resets - seems all is ok with sensitivity. Hope that problems will not appear again.
Please let me know if you'll find a solution.

i've changed INTERNAL_RECORDING_GAIN value to 16, but voice quality is still the same. i suppose these settings may concern recording notes (dicating machine) only, not while phone connection. anyway, i've also found HLM/Software/HTC/VOICESETTING registry key, which may be actually that. but values are quite different there and i don't want to make something wrong...

i did ROM update with latest ROM from clubimate.com, then i did three hard-resets in a row, checking voice quality after each one. unfortunately... voice quality was all the time the same and it was NOT good quality
microphone sensitivity - solution?
i did some tests with registry tweaks within HKLM/Software/HTC/AUDIOGAINx keys and after few hours of testing i've got confused and completely dizzy wheter microphone sensitivity is better or not. however i found some interesting things. HEADSET_UPLINK_VOLUME key is responsible for headset microphone sensitivity and SPEAKER_UPLINK_VOLUME is responsible for microphone while phone is in loudspeaker mode. so there are two other keys:
RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME = 18
EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME = 19
values above are default, but i've set both values to CC (204 decimal). after so many tries, soft-resets and test connections, i couldn't really differ which setting is actually better and which isn't. so i called to one of my friends who was complaining before that he doesn't hear me very well. and now he told me, that now's much better! voice was still bit noisy but much louder than before. so i guess i found a solution...
Do any of you have volume issues with MS Voice? I have it setup to announce incoming calls- it says the # and contacts name. The problem I have is that the voice is very quiet when the phone is ringing. Its similar to a txt message or email notification you receive while on the telephone talking to someone. I even tried it with no ringtone playing at all- just the msvoice.
Has anyone used the MS Voice on WM5 HTC Wizard?
i went to use my vodafone VPA (working fine for last few months) for a phone call, and the person i was calling couldnt hear anything - bad line i thought.
then i called back and the same...
then my house fone... the same, and when i record a video or voice note, if i shout into the microphone and play it back at max volume, i can just about make out what i'm saying...
any idea's on how i can fix this? i've tried a hard reset, and taken the phone apart to see if its anything obvious (there isn't) i've also tried enabling/disabling microphone AGC - no avail
Dave
no help at all?
Dave
i have the same problem with my imate jam initially i thought it might be a software problem so i reflashed it with the origional Imate Rom and so now differance i played with all the settings i could find to no avail and finaly gave up
since my jam was still within its warranty period i gave it in for fixing i should be getting it back anyday now and if i can find out what they did with it i will definetly post it here
Just talked to the guy i gave my phone to today he said tht he tried changing the microphone part but it still had the same problem it seems that there is some problem with an IC ( whatever that is) and he has more chances of killing it totally then actually fixing it if he tries to change it

Is there a way (registry hack, any other program) to increase the volume of the speaker during the phone conversation? I also own a Hermes and the speaker volume of the Trinity is so low compared to it that I can sometimes barely hear the other party. Any help?

Are you aware that turning the wheel on the left side you can change the volume while in a phone call?

I have the exact same problem. When I am in a public place and when there is some noise around, I hardly hear the person I am speaking to. Even when I turn the wheel on the left to maximum
I have spent a lot of time looking for a solution but I have just seen that for some qtek devices, there is the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN] with values EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME and RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME, that allow to modify the max output level of the speaker. But I didn't find that key in the trinity
Even if I turn the scroll wheel all the way up, the volume is too low.
The audiogain registry key (although it doesn't exist in trinity's registry) is actually to improve the sound quality of the microphone and not the volume of the phone.
When I first make a call, when I hear the first ring, it is actually louder but then from the second ring on, the volume decreases at least by 25%.
Anybody with any ideas?
anyone figured how to increase call volume yet?
I would also appreciate a solution to improve the Speakerphone volume.
I would appreciate any fix to increase the volume of anything!
The included stereo headphones are completely useless! My god, why did they even put a volume dial on the headphones? I can barely hear anything with this crap phone...
A pity considering every other features works just perfectly.
ive got the same problem, before the bass fix, the volume was high but with a really unstable and bad sound... after the fix, there is kind of better sound but in phone calls the volume is low.. i really start hating this device......
I've been using my new p3600 for two weeks now, and this low speaker volume issue is killing me. I've been a Noia user for years, and the difference in sound quality during normal calls is simply unacceptable. The p3600 has so many awesome capabilities for such a small phone, but when it comes to the most basic function, I'm quite disappointed with.
I would also appreciate a fix to improve the quality of the speaker.
Cheers
i can say that this is not the only problem, there are so many others that i stopped thinking of this one... im going for a final hard reset now.. im really tired...im sick of it.....
Someone has an idea ?
Has anyone found away to increase the incall volume yet ???
Someone posted this registry hack elsewhere (use at your own risk of course)
1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER
2. ControlPanel
3. SoundCategories
4. InCall
5. InitVol
6. Change the DWORD value to 6 (Default = 2)
7. Click Done
Wait approx 10-15 seconds before testing.
PS. If the registry key or value doesn't exist, you can always try creating it.
Has anyone tried this??
What was the outcome??

Yes i tried it and it never worked for me ...
i can also confirm that this does NOT work on the trinity, anyone else have any bright ideas...
Ah ha...
I just bought Dopod D810(HTC Trinity) for my wife yesterday, and just now she complained to me about this "low on call volume" to me. And since I'm the one recommended her the phone I have to responsible. LoL.
But despite this problem, all of other features are flawless, complete, with excellent case design. Kudos to HTC!!
Btw, this is kind of dejavu for me since it also happened on my Eten M600 back then. This issue can only be solved on driver level, i.e: patch the RILgsm.dll, or include this patched driver in newly cooked ROM.
On which, I don't have the necessary skills to do that... -sigh-
Any expert users can help us???

Hi all,
The call quality of the HD2 is very good. Reception is great, people understand me very well and I can understand them very good.
My only problem is that the sound is so loud, when I'm using my phone at my ear (so without speaker or bluetooth).
Do you have this as well? Is there somewhere a master volume that can be set?
To be clear: the volume is already at the minimum...
Thanks!
Koen
Does the earpiece speaker also pop/crackle somtimes when the tones are high or very loud? I hear a ticking in the earpiece speaker.. that is very anoying!
Will probably swap my device for a new one.
Not really.
But as I find it now too loud, I don't like to use to make normal phonecalls.
Koen
I have the same problem..
One weird thing though, it's only on outgoing calls, incoming the sound isnt too loud!
i had the same problem but only with outgoing calls an mine sounded terrible, still does( think my speaker is broken)
You can edit the registry.
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2, i think one is ingoing and one is outgoing calls.
Edit Initvol, i have both mine on 2 now. and the volume is much better!

Thanks, now it's great!!!
I've got the exact same thing!
The quality is great, but sometimes the volume is just way too loud, almost up to the point where it hurts my ear.
One additional thing is when I get a notification on the background that a message has arrived during one of those loud calls, volume actually switches back to normal.
In my registry incall2 was set to 5. Resetted it to 2, hope it works
could anyone clarify
Where can I find that
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2 thing. Please help! How do I enter registry?

Made the first step, done the things in the register, but the volume is still too high. What am I doing wrong?

Not sure if I did a soft-reset, but you might just give it a shot.
Both outgoing and incoming call volumes are now fine on my device...
[edit]
Actually got another loud outgoing call..
When I took a better look at the inCall and inCall2 properties, they seem to be for the notifications you get when you're in a call.
So changing them to '2' is OK, but doesn't actually solve this issue.
It may be an explanation to why my sound swapped back to normal after receiving a notification though.

Tried a soft reset too, but my ears still hurt! Any other suggestions?
This is totally unacceptable, has nobody got a cure for this? I can't use my *phone* as a phone, the volume is deafening! Both speakerphone and earpiece are way too loud, even on the lowest volume setting.
try this one
Here's a solution : you need to use the Schapman advanced configuration tool v3.3 (freeware).
Go to "HTC audio manager" -> set "music volume" (or something close, I don't know of it is labelled in english, I only have the french version) to 30 or above (below 100, which is the maximum) and then soft reset your device.

I can't seem to get this to do the trick. Is there anyone out there who has used a program to specifically lower the earpiece and speakerphone volume on their HD2 'Leo'? I'm going to have to return my handset if I can't lower the volume. I love the phone but if I can't make calls on it it's useless!
*bump*
This needs keeping near the top as it's a MASSIVE problem. Doesn't *everyone* find their HD2 far too loud??
It happened to me only once, when I woke up, press power button to get the screen on and dialed a cab, it was way too much loud.
Today I made some calls, received them as well, and it was ok.

Does anyone have a link to the part of the site where these supposed hotfixes will be....and how long will they be coming, any ideas? So far it's the speakerphone & earpiece volume which are of the utmost importance for me, then the pink camera etc etc etc.
