Hell folks, I have a bit of a challenge for you all. I know that there are alot of programs out there like magic button that will actually close an application, rather than minimize it, when you hit the X button in the top right. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any app that provides this functionality to a hardware button mapped to the ok/close function.
Does anyone know of a registry tweak or an add-on that makes an ok/close hardware button actually close an app?
Thanks.
In SPB Pocket plus is an close application/link what you can assign to a key.
ajpprc: VJOkButt.
Major new release hopefully coming tonight as well It took me "bally" ages...

You can use Vito TaskSwitcher, however, you'll need Vito ButtoMapper too in order to map
Xbar can do that. And it doesn't take up a button because it uses the "enter" button of your D-pad. Very clever!

I've been using Spb Pocket Plus but I have recently switched to Sbsh's products due to their better speed and less memory loss, but in doing so I lost PP's great feature to make the close button actually close the program and also mapping it to a hardware button.
So now I'm looking for a program to do this for me. Any recommendations?
Zapit seems like a good program but I can't really make it work. I have the Zapit.exe file in the program folder and clicking it closes the browser, but I can't figure out how to map it to a button.
Magic Button does not have the feature to map it to a hardware button, mapping to the program only displays the active programs at the top.
VJOkButt will do this and a bit more.
Let me know if you have no luck. There are a couple of more options as well, have a read through the VJOkButt thread.

AEBPlus will do that and more.
What about our own loved SmartsKey?

Not to hijack the thread - but my comm manager button works just fine with AEBPlus and those times after I've had to uninstall it.
And I think there was a fix discussed for the Comm Manager issue on the board, right?

Help please... the comm manager button on my prophet is scrwed by ae button plus... any1 know a fix???

thanks guttrhead...
fix applied... and now works...
no problem. Anyone know of a free button mapper that doesn't crap things up?
I also had some problem with AEbutton. I first mapped "close activity" to the comm manager button which worked fine. I then added another function to the comm manager for 2 presses which also worked fine but then the one press function stopped working. I had to remove all the functions and then soft reset to get it working again.
I tried the camera button as well with the same results.
It seems there is some problem mapping several functions (one button press, two press, three press and hold) with AEButton/Wizard. As long as I only map one function to each button it works fine.
But I'm happy, I just wanted a close function mapped to a button and I got it.
I started having a bunch of problems after installing AEButton and it didn't work as it said either since I could only map one function to each button.
Uninstalled it and gave VJ Okbutt a try and so far it's the best program I've tried. Works like a charm.
I use SmartKeys, and reset the Camera hardbutton to OK/Close. And just placed a camera link on traylaunch.
When on Camera function, the hardware button reverts back to camera clicking without any further tweaking required.
Works like a charm
With the Wizard I used VJOKButt with the IE-button so that I could close programs and dialogs without using the stylus.
The TyTN/Hermes has it's own OK button(s), and I was wondering if anyone knows a way these buttons can actually close (or be reconfigured to launch VJOKButt) programs?
I've already tried AE Button Plus but couldn't set a custom action for the OK button (allthough this might be because I didn't register the program)...
Any tips would be apreciated!
Moskus, if I ever get my computer working again,

I may try to build such a feature in to VJOkButt, but I'd rather people be able to use their own button mappers. However, if AE Button plus doesn't do it, then I may try to build in this feature.

AEB Plus
Actually it does work, you just have to add it as a new button (menu | add button). I've got my OK hardware button mapped to ok/close for one press and close front application for a long press.
Steven
I certainly would love it if is was build in to VJOKButt, Vijay!
I guess I'll try AEButton again (for now). Didn't see that "Add button" feature..
EDIT: The AEButton finds the hardware OK button, but the combination of VJOKButt and AEButton won't close the application, just minimize it. :?
With AE Button Plus 2.4.3 beta and upwards, you can capture and map the "ok" and "windows" buttons. Have set mine to close apps with 2 depresses of the "ok" button.
can it be done by tweaking some of the registry rather to instsall some of the 3rd party program?
Hmmm... I should have investigated some more. Now it works!
PQzII let's you map any button on the hermes (and universal) to anything you want...it is really great. It has an option to make the ok button a 'really close button' and much more.

You can find out a lot about it in this forum by searching for pqzII.
Hi All,
I'm trying AEBPlus and I tried to map the OK button the side to be "OK/Close" for one press and "Close active application" for two presses. however, the single press doesn't seem to work. Pressing it once no longer minimizes applications or funciton as the OK/Close button. In fact it does nothing. I'm using a CHT9000 with the Dopod English Rom. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

how about good old smartskey? it works in my Hermes, press&hold right softkey removes active window from memory.
Aye, but until it supports OK button it's less intuitive. The newest version support the OK button on the Prophet but this operates the PIE button on the Hermes. I've PM'd Water about it but no response
OK buttons NOT mappable under WM5..not through menus anyway!

I agree. On my HTC Prophet using Wisbar Advanced 2, I am able to map the 'OK' button to 'Close/OK' option of the Wisbar application, which did close all my programs etc. On my VarioII the 'OK' buttons are not mappable. Bummer!!
Try PQZII for me is fantastic, not only to close programs, you can map everithing...
How d'u use it this PQZII? Help!!

Forgive my stupidity, but I'm currently using it, but haven't a clue how to get it to that for sure. It seems to work for some applications, but not for others. Any tips or guides for dummies like me
I'll join the dummies club too!
PQzII would be perfect if we could attach key presses of the same key to different apps like in AE button plus.
unfortunately, once PQzII captures the button, it overides AE button plus, meaning the 2 can't work together on the same button.
also found out that AE button plus 2.5 doesn't capture the windows button at all. Investigated back and found that only 2.4.3 beta did.
I dont know AEbutton so I dont understand why you want use both the programs. (note: also PQZ dose not configure well the win button) but you can configure any other button, eg: alt+left to close program (I put alt in internet button so if I want to close a program I press "internet program" and "left".
I've mapped my 'Button 5' (under settings/Buttons...) to 'Close/ok' of the Wisbar Advanced settings, which does close everything. Just until, as bydandie said, a more intuitive method can be achieved by using the 'ok' button.
in PQZII there is an option to make ok button to close, I dont use that option because I want to have some programs running down, you can try

Currently i bound the left button (to go to the today screen) en right button to rotate the screen.
1. I want to bind one of the (left or right) button to open the task manager menu. I'm currently doing this... by going to the today screen and clicking on the task manager (where normally the x (closing) button is shown).
2. I would like be able to use the buttons everywhere, it seems opera is capturing the button. So nothing happens when i am in opera. Any idea on how to resolve this?

thanks, ill try it out.
so there is no other way within wm to do this?
There are other ways. SPB Pocket plus for example, but AE Button Plus is the best that i know off. I even use AE Button plus to link to AltTab.exe from SPB Poket Plus. It is connected to the first state of the camera button.
It's kind of frustrated for me.
When I have two applications running, for example, GPS and Email reading. In order to switch to GPS from Reading, I have to click Start->Home, where I have shortcut for Task Manager. Open Task Manager, from there, I can switch to GPS application.
Any other faster ways? Really miss that TAB switching in regular Windows OS....
I personally use LMT with task fascade. They work very well with each other.
try WkTASK.
or arkswitch...

You just extract alttab.exe and copy it to your Program Files and assign a button (I assign Windows button) to it with e.g. AEBplus:
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Then this works just like Windows Alt+Tab by pressing just one button - you switch between your opened apps (home panel included though)
Also, you (just like me can assing a wonderful task manager
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655853&highlight=mm+task+manager
to the green button, using same AEBplus (I use green button for calling a phone maybe only twice a day). Then you have two very quick ways to see/switch your running programs
Just for info: Windows button is the very center hard button, Green button is the very left button on HD2.
I mean that I never use the green button - I just use soft button (quick link on the home) to open the Phone, so using the green button to open MM Task manager is extremely convenient.
Thanks a lot, I will try tonight.
Dutty's task manager, MMTaskManager, Showcase, XTask just to name a few of the top of my head
duttys task manager is the simplest and best

If you are using WM 6.5.x Arkswitch is the best taskmanager imo.
